What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 173 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (20,084 of 22,328 positive).
Players appreciate the game for letting them create their own character and relive Dragon Ball moments. [1][2][3] Many find it a solid foundation for the series, though rough around the edges. [1][4][5] Some reviewers criticize the repetitive combat, grinding, and RNG-heavy achievements. [6][7][8]

Much worse combat and ai than the second game, and the second game has this game's story as a dlc + many new cool features. Just buy the second game

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is one of those games I would still recommend playing before jumping into the second one. Not because it is perfect, because it is absolutely not. It has its clunky moments, some fights can be annoying, and you can feel the first-game bones in a lot of places. But that is also kind of why I think it matters. Xenoverse 1 sets the foundation. It introduces the whole Time Patrol concept, lets you …

Any DB fans ultimate fantasy. Getting to replay the best parts of the legendary series but as your own created characters. The action is fast paced and controls well. Highly recommend this one.

I know I'm outdated for playing this game so far from it's release, but I definitely have a soft spot for it. Absolutely fell in love with it when it dropped and when I was capable to downloading it now as a college kid, definitely dove into it headfirst. Its got its kinks, but works well for a first try at the Xenoverse series. 8 out of 10

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a really fun and unique take on the Dragon Ball series. Instead of just replaying the story, it lets you be part of it, which makes the experience feel fresh and different. The gameplay is solid, with fast-paced combat and a variety of moves and abilities to use. Creating your own character and customizing their skills adds a lot of enjoyment and makes it feel more personal. One of the best …

76% of the 173 Steam reviewers we collected recommend DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE. The complaint that keeps coming up: combat can feel clunky and repetitive. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Dragon Ball Xenoverse received "mixed or average reviews". On review aggregating website Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating in the 0–100 range, the PlayStation 4 version holds the score of 69/100 based on 50 reviews, while the Xbox One version holds 67/100 based on 18 reviews. Popular Japanese video game magazine Famitsu gave the game an overall score of 30/40 saying that it "isn't without its faults and flaws" noting the repetitiveness of in-game missions and lag in team battles as its main drawbacks, concluding that the game is "aimed at Dragon Ball fans" and it might "appeal to fighting game fans and gamers that love fast action games". IGN gave the game a score of 6.7 out of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most of my playtime is on my old PS4. This was THE ultimate Dragon Ball experience back in 2015, and I kind of miss it. It's simply incredible now to see the legacy Xenoverse would leave behind, between Xenoverse 2 and subsequent DB games following its formula. DB Xenoverse also came out after Battle of Gods and into Resurrection F, so it was right at the beginning of DB's newfound popularity that would kickstart Dragon Ball Super. I cannot speak for the online part because I've never had…

I still remember how back in 2015 (small spoiler ahead) me and my sister were fighting against Freezer and when the bastard transformed and skipped from phase 1 to his final form an earthquake started on my area. First and best 4DX experience EVER. The immersion was insane. Would totally (not) recommend.

This is a returning element that was featured in the previous Dragon…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent game if you're rushing the story, but absolutely horrible RNG-fueled experience if you're going for all achievements (mainly all Super and Ultimate skills). Unfortunately, I had to suffer through the latter and that tarnished the image of this game for me, which wasn't that high. Combat is pretty basic but it's fun in the early game, where later on it becomes boring and sometimes rage-inducing. If you're fighting one enemy, you can just fly in their direction and spam the light…

A lot better than I remember it being on launch when I got it on the PS4, a lot better than the first game and surprisingly addictive Main story isn't much of anything but the side content is pretty fun with the characters Lord Slug is here 8/10

positive · AI labelView post →Got the 100% while waiting in anticipation for Xenoverse 3's launch. Definitely worth the few dollars when on sale, if not on sale then just play the 10yr life spanned sequel (Xenoverse 2).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game I used to play from PS3 to PS4 and now my gaming PC in 2026. Dragon ball is one hell of a series, and this is a really fun first edition to the Xenoverse line. The 2nd one is obviously times better, but I'm mostly here for the nostalgia and to experience the first part of the story once again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good. Though I do advise you to play with a controller. Playing with keyboard and mouse is a devilish demonic nightmare. Overall the game is 10/10
