Players describe Drill Bird as a short, charming digging game with a satisfying gameplay loop. [1][2][3] Many note its similarity to SteamWorld Dig but in a smaller, more focused package. [1][4][5] The game is praised for its cute pixel art, soothing music, and surprising depth. [2][6][7]

Simple, bite-sized game. Drill, come back, upgrade, drill further. You know the, uh, drill. Except there's more to it. For one thing, the map is static, and designed by hand - which trades replayability for a tight, focused experience. So it's more like SteamWorld Dig - except not as expansive. That's... all I can really say. There's some unexpected stuff here; the base game is competent enough, but the unexpected …

Short and sweet arcadey take on the Steamworld Dig/Dig Dug formula: dig for gems, get back to the surface in order to feed your egg and improve your stats, take a nap and go even deeper the next day. It's a fun gameplay loop that works super well in such a condensed format since the progression/difficulty curves are tightly designed! An average playthrough should take about an hour, but Drill Bird begs to be …

This is a great little digging game. It's got a lot of charm, a clever design, and plenty of surprises. I really recommend it to anyone looking for something like SteamWorld Dig, as long as you don't mind it being short. Comparing it to SW Dig, it cleverly subverts some of its tropes and feels genuinely fresh.

fantastic little game with a fun and satisfying gameplay loop. where this really excels though is atmosphere. i always love when even a small game like this can get you hooked on the world around you through excellent use of music, sound fx, and creative level design. this is proof that a game can be compelling from the first second even with a more simplistic visual style/limited tools. all the secrets to find here …

positive · AI labelView post →Today is the steam release day for the lovely Drill Bird by @mnniska.bsky.social and friends, it's just a lovely little game!

neutral · AI labelView post →Short and sweet, a perfect little game to sit back and enjoy. I do wish it were longer and had a bit more depth [bad digging joke]. But honestly, that's a great wish to have for a game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Drill Bird has now been out for a week and I've been delighted by the response. The game sits at +80 positive reviews. Fun that people like tiny games! 🐦⛏️✨ Feel free to give it a go if you're keen for some bitesized chill puzzly mining🥚 store.steampowered.com/app/3809940/...
positive · AI labelView post →I LOVE this little game. It has so much charm and I love the mixture of mining, platforming, and puzzle elements. It's so cute! My only issue(s) is that it's extremely short-- you can beat it in maybe 2 hours (I played the majority of it during the demo, so I was pretty far along when I bought this since the demo save carried over). There is some replayability aspect to it with the achievements and "game stats" you receive at the end of the game, so if you want to treat it almost like a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this with some caveats, it's really good but its way too short and I'm not super happy with the price/playtime. Half the base price would feel more fair. It feels like a demo for a game like Steamworld Dig, so if you've played and enjoyed those then this is worth it on a good enough sale. Don't expect too much though, this will only last you an hour or so, and unless you want to grind out the last few achievements speedrunning then there isn't much replayability. That said, I loved…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: A cute, cheap and simple dig-dug like game with an unadvertised large amount of control issues on PC. I got this game as a bundle with another game I wanted because it was marginally cheaper to do so, and the game looked like a cute little thing to try out. Hence the review. Game doesn't say on steam page that it would prefer you use a gamepad, and tutorial instructions are in generic gamepad, not keyboard and mouse. Whenever it gives me a new action instruction, I have to guess what…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a fun, cute, relaxing game - played it through sharing a controller with my 4 year old daughter, then played it again myself. Probably might end up achievement hunting it too, because it's just such a nice time. Not a hugely long game start to finish, but perfectly priced and with achievements it'll probably go to 4-6 hours. Sound design is great, really fun gameplay loop. Dev did an awesome job, loved this game

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this is why the rating system of the Steam is not a great way to express the qualities of a game. It is hard to give this game a negative review because it is clear that it is a product of love. However, game is just too short and too basic. There is only one mechanic you should know about and that's it. That's the endgame here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very well made game, it's quite short but you can get a lot from it, specially if you go for 100% completion like i did. Really enjoyed the gameplay loop of gathering resources and upgrading whenever possible while simultaneously making sure the terrain you're breaking is suitable for both dropping down and climbing back up. It also works very well on the steam deck, so it can be a fun game to just play on bed after a long day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Appleseed's Indie Game Of The Day! Day 144) Drill Bird by Sebastian Larsson, Andrea Harty, Hampus Melin , Isabelle Neuman, Luiza Flores da Cunha A platformer where you dig for ore under the ground to get stronger and bring back to your nest. It's cozy yet somehow also tense.
neutral · AI labelView post →Quick Description: -Drill Bird is a cute pixel art platformer with a focus on digging and exploration. I paid just over $2 for this game and I don't regret it at all. Yes, it's very short (roughly an hr for first playthrough and less than 3 hrs to 100% the game) and it's extremely simplistic, but it has a ton of charm. It's not as good as Dome Miner or Steamworld Dig, but for those on a budget, this is a fun game to keep you busy for an afternoon. Consensus: -Middle of the Road Game (Tier 4…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →gonna post my Nextfest demo experiences here Drill Bird: If you've played Dome Keeper this will be familiar, it's a full game made out of the drilling parts of that. You play as a bird with a drill beak who has to plan routes through dirt to get gems to buy upgrades to drill better. Pretty good!

neutral · AI labelView post →This is a cute short digging platformer game, it seems most similar to SteamWorld Dig 1-2 in this subgenre, but it is much smaller in scope. You are a bird who digs up ore to feed it to an egg (I don't quite understand how that works, but ok!). The game loop of digging up stuff and taking it all back to the surface is very satisfying and the birds are sweet; the whole thing is just put together really nicely. The game takes 1-2 hours to complete - my playtime was closer to 2 because I went for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried liking this game but just couldn't. It suffers from a ton of minor inconveniences. Unskippable Cutscenes that play on EVERY. SINGLE. RUN. An annoying minigame at the end of each run that you have to complete before you can see your stats for the run. Also, the minigame doesn't start until the credits are over. As far as I could tell, there is no way to reset your run while in the middle of it. You HAVE to finish each run which is really annoying for me because I was going for the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Drill Bird is an adorable, very chill game about being a bird with a drill as a beak that mines for ore to feed to their ever growing egg. It costs like 3€. There even is a short demo if you want to check it out first.
positive · AI labelView post →Its an adorable game, takes about an hour to finish, Its worth the money, it could have been stretched much further with grind but the devs chose to quit while ahead and its now the perfect length.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great little game to play through in an hour. You can tell the dev cared about making this!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's time for another double #indiegamedev review. This is for Shelldiver and Drill Bird, two charming games that you can finish in a day youtu.be/EO7Ykkj1rBc @gagonfe.bsky.social
neutral · AI labelView post →A lovely little game with some unexpected Super Metroid vibes. The music and sound design is top notch, with especially the lil critter noises standing out as being some of the cutest ever! Controls are tight and trying to collect as much loot as possible during each day is very fun, but I wish the upgrades felt a bit more game-changing and less incremental (I reached full upgrades a little while before beating the game, and after the initial upgrades I didn't feel that much really changed in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's such a cute game!!! It's so nice to just kick back and relax, the pixel world and gameplay loop make for a very enjoyable experience! Also special shoutout to the sound design, the noises are so adorable!!! Lots of love!!! (still cannot believe it's not called Drillduck, smh)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love dril bird
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The birds yearn for the mines. An enjoyable little 2D digging game in the vein of SteamWorld Dig 1 and 2, but it's so short that the demo comprises half of the total runtime - though the achievements give it a little replay value, like one for beating the game in 20 minutes and another for beating it without any enemies dying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pleasant little digging game that you can play in one sitting. It has some interesting mechanics and a charming main character. Reminded me a bit about Steamworld Dig and Dome Keeper, except it's tiny and cute. A perfect game if you want something short and sweet!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was a Lovely game, I didn't understand one of the mechanics until later on when I discovered it by accident. 100% worth the 3 dollars.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very fun! Even though it is short (& sweet) I feel like the gameplay, art and overall design choices lead to this being cohesive gaming experience, and for a while I was obsessed with playing it. It has its connections to the Steamworld series, but the experience here feels somewhat arcade like due to its bite-sized nature, reminding me of Dig-Dug or Mr Do! What is interesting about this game to me is that the game world is static, and not procedurally generated. which allows you…

neutral · AI labelView post →Drill Bird is a little game about a little bird who drills. The designs of the world and player character are charming. The gameplay is rather simple, but still satifying. A good hour or two of gameplay and doesn't overstay its welcome. If you want a short but sweet experience and a wholesome ending, would recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cute bite-sized little puzzle-platformer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fast and simple game, not much thinking except the platforming.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cute little platformer. It's pretty short, my only complaint is that it's not really challenging. Some sort of hard mode or NG+ would be neat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just played this pretty cute game, Drill Bird Pretty simple gameplay, but pretty cute.
positive · AI labelView post →It's simple and basic but it's also short enough and cute enough that I enjoyed all my time playing it. Given that I technically paid negative dollars to buy this since it was cheaper to buy with a bundled game than that other game on its own, I cannot say that I didn't get my money's worth. If you think 3$ is an ok price to pay for what is basically a good flash game with cute art, then go right ahead.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only thing that would make this better is if it had a roguelike mode for randomized runs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very short sweet and fun! Cute, simple and a lovable addition to my mine-dig games list! :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very simple but charming. Some of the small puzzles surprised me. Just a chill little game! I could see replaying it to finish all the achievements for a bit of a challenge as well if you're focused on how short it is.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly charming little game. Love the cute bird. Drilling mechanics are fun! The world has enough little puzzley distractions and iterations on the main mechanic without overstaying it's welcome. You can beat it in under an hour which might be a bit of a turn off for some people, but it was a perfect game for me to cool off with after a hangout with friends
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun and satisfying short game, between "SteamWorld Dig" and a 2D version of "A Game About Digging A Hole". I really appreciated how the level design is handmade instead of being procedurally generated like tons of games like this. One playthough is pretty short, but I had much fun replaying the game to do a fully pacifist run.
