Dungeon Siege
Developer Gas Powered Games
Dungeon Siege is an action role-playing game developed by Gas Powered Games and published by Microsoft in April 2002 for Microsoft Windows and the following year by Destineer for Mac OS X. Set in the pseudo-medieval kingdom of Ehb, the high fantasy game follows a young farmer and her companions as they journey to defeat an invading force. Initially only seeking to warn the nearby town of the invasion of a race of… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Some note the Steam version has missing content and bugs. [1][2][3]

Love the game, but this version of it on Steam is horrible. The DLC is missing (Legends of Aranna), Multiplayer is "DISABLED" (although this can be bypassed with a launch option: 'zonematch=true'), very prone to crashing (try running in compatibility mode for XP SP2), requiring a ton of unnecessary intervention and mitigation that should've been taken care of with a simple patch, or at the very least DISCLOSED …

After watching my dad play Dungeon Siege for weeks when I was a kid, I finally sat down and gave it a try. I get why he was hooked now. This game is a pure seamless fantasy adventure done right. There are no loading screens between zones it’s just you walking from sunny fields straight into dark crypts while your party levels up. Combat is satisfying click n destroy with …

There are games you remember, and then there are games that shape you. Dungeon Siege belongs to the latter category. It was one of the first RPGs I ever played, and to this day, the memories of trekking through the dark forests of Ehb, battling krug warbands, and descending into the ancient caverns still echo vividly in my mind. For its time, Dungeon Siege was nothing short of revolutionary. ✅ Seamless, Massive …

From my experience, the plot and gameplay of Dungeon Siege is the perfect depiction of what its like being drunk at a friend's house party and leaving early to walk home at 1AM, but you live in a town many many miles away. I have more hours on the physical copy I own from eons past, but this game is an essential Old Skool RPG to have in your belt to say that you've completed it, and to enjoy the habit of making Krug …

One of my most favorite games, who had a single descent sequel and the rest of it was garbage(3 & movie...looking at you). It will take some dancing, but you can get all DLC and Multiplayer working. IF not, oh well...the base game and solo is just as fun to go. The best about solo is you can create a party of 8 and that makes things interesting. This was one of the first games to make PC-NPC AI by what skill/spell …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Dungeon Siege was commercially successful, selling over 1.7 million copies. According to the NPD Group, preorders of the game in the month before its release made it the eighth-best selling computer game of March 2002, and upon release in the following month it rose to second-best selling, after The Sims: Vacation. It fell to seventh and then thirteenth place the following two months, and finished in 14th place for the year overall. By August 2006, it had sold 360,000 copies and earned $14.5 million in the United States alone. This led Edge to declare it the country's 44th-best selling computer game between January 2000 and August 2006. By September 2002, Dungeon Siege had also received a…

But because I wanted to play Dungeon Siege on my TV, it works far better than a traditional controller ever could. For the Steam controller to work for you, you have to come in with the mentality of it replacing a keyboard-and-mouse.
positive · AI labelView post →Buying modern releases of old games is weird. Like how Dungeon Siege 1 lists Square Enix or the Microsoft Game Studios logo slapped onto Banjo Kazooie

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah, I feel like the steam controller was a little hard to get used to, the touchpads always felt a little off, but the steamdeck's touchpads (and presumably the steam controller 2's touchpads) are absolutely perfect. Easiest way to play games made for the PC on a controller. I've been playing a lot of early 2000's RPG's and they've been perfect on the steamdeck: Baldur's gate 2, Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, Age of Empires, etc
neutral · AI labelView post →In the old game Dungeon Siege, you could get a donkey, and the more stuff was in the donkey, the more luggage appeared on its model and I always thought that was super cute
positive · AI labelView post →Not who you asked, but I use them for PC games that were built for keyboard and mouse. The track pads on the steamdeck are excellent for emulating a mouse. Baldur's Gate 2, Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, Age of Empires, etc. Newer games were built with controllers in mind, so the joysticks probably feel better in those cases.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though not on Steam, I’ve probably poured well over 1000+ hours into Dungeon Siege and LoA. Back in the times of CDs, which meant feeding about 4 CDs and praying the last one wasn’t scratched. I’ve tested so many builds, specs, and characters that I’m fairly certain I could lecture at Oxford on Advanced Loot Hoarding. At one point I even did a run with 4 characters and 4 mules. imagine an IKEA on legs, only everything in stock wants to kill you. Played it as a teen when it first came out,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, but Steam's port is garbage. Get it on GOG instead, works just fine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As good a game as I remember when playing it 25 years ago. The only issue was leveling. You either commit to a class or commit to never leveling up as the farther you are in the game in one class, the less experience points you can earn in the other classes. They purposely subtract the amount of points you get if you play out of class so if you use bows for the first 20 or so levels, then use a nature spell or a melee weapon, you are pretty much guaranteed to slowly dwindle down to near…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is an extremely specific kind of ARPG here that is, yes, crude and kinda janky, but it feels like it was abandoned in Dungeon Siege II which is, arguably, a way more fun game but a way less unique one.
neutral · AI labelView post →Playing Dungeon Siege 1 and then Dungeon Siege 2 it's really interesting to see how the second game is correcting every flaw in the first. Inventory management a slog? The interface shows what gets better and items have skill requirements so it's easier to tell who needs what
positive · AI labelView post →Didn't age as well as I thought it would... the art design is still great. It played a huge role in my childhood but does no longer hold up well to modern standards. A lot of dungeons etc. are boringly designed and repetitive, the balancing for mages is totally broken (weak, constant mana issues while dealing barely any damage). Kinda wish I would have just kept my old memories of the game. Note: the "end-sequence" is missing in the Steam-version, you just get back to the main menu.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I installed Bazzite, the linux made for gaming and I was like, "Okay, this is probably going to be only marginal improvements" anyway each game runs 20-30 FPS faster and my computer runs so cool the fans barely kick on also everything just fucking works, Dungeon Siege 2 just WORKS
positive · AI labelView post →Pre Dungeon Siege West party in Seattle with bestie for anyone who either wants to pre-game their dungeon synth or can't make it to the fest
neutral · AI labelView post →I wound up starting a mod team for Dungeon Siege, worked on that a few years, moved to Italy, made a cancelled and then bad car game (SCAR), moved to Guerrilla to work on next gen Killzone (KZ2), then over to DICE to work on many titles I loved. Sometimes we don’t see those things at the time.
neutral · AI labelView post →I played Dungeon Siege for the first time in 2026, over the course of the last three weeks. Here are my thoughts, with a TL;DR at the bottom. Dungeon Siege is very old by now, in terms of how rapidly the gaming industry evolves, and it feels a bit primitive but also holds up shockingly well. I used to buy a lot of these older games before I built my current computer as they were probably the only things that would run on the old one, which struggled to make Left 4 Dead 2 work properly, and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GOAT. Played as a kid, I still proudly have this game and it's great sequel (DSII) physical copies on my bookshelf. Took me a while to beat it, ran it start to finish more than a couple times, just to experience it again, fiddling with gear choices, party comp and hand-drawing maps for the caves and swamp mazes so I didn't get lost, after running in circles for some time. I love this game and its sequel, the third instance, not so much, it lost the things that elevated the first two into…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a steamdeck owner, the ability to use the trackpads to play old keyboard/mouse games without having to sit at a computer, is great. I've been playing a lot of Dungeon Siege and Baldur's Gate 2, released in early 2000's with mouse/keyboard in mind, and they both work flawlessly. The new Steam Controller is a welcome addition because the old Steam Controller doesn't have the same button and joystick layout, plus its missing buttons, compared to the steamdeck. So when you want to dock…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dungeon Siege dropped in 2002, right when Diablo 2 was ruling the ARPG scene, but it feels worlds apart in gameplay. Forget the frantic click-spam of Diablo 2 where every mouse button press swings a weapon or hurls a spell. This one's all about your characters auto-attacking while you babysit the chaos. The full 3D world looks cool for its era, but the camera is a nightmare. No automation means you're constantly twisting and panning it yourself, which ends up being the main activity.…

positive · AI labelView post →This is a game which does a lot of innovation for its time - for the 3D environment to how you level and many more. However it is really, really bad. Bad story, very bad AI and worst of all the gear. For example when you cast spells you increase your skill in the selected magic school and intelligence. You need both to cast more powerful spells. You see a cool staff dropped? It increases your melee dmg and rarely any magic related. When you beat the game cool stuff drops...and thats it. You…

A true classic—and a rare example of a party-based ARPG. Easy recommendation. I’m now moving on to the second game with the Legendary mod, which includes all the maps from DS1. I’m looking forward to experiencing it all there.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably one of my favorite old-school hack-and-slash RPGs. It still holds up as a great game even today. Both the single-player and multiplayer worlds are extremely fun to play through, especially with friends over LAN or online. Note: Apparently the Steam version is glitched, so when you defeat Gom at the end of the single-player campaign, the game skips the ending cinematic and kicks you straight back to the main menu. This also makes it difficult to collect Gom’s rare loot to transfer into…
