What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 221 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (5,097 of 7,287 positive).
Players say EDF 6 is fun but feels like a slight upgrade to EDF 5. [1][2][3] Some reviewers complain about multiplayer desync issues and Epic Online Services. [4][5][6] The game is praised for its campy B-movie charm and satisfying progression. [7][8][9]

Is it fun? Yes. EDF as a concept has always been fun, and this is no exception. Is it put together well? God no. Absolutely not. Jesus Christ no. The gameplay pacing is terrible, with many missions requiring you to wait for dialogue from NPCs for upwards of 3 minutes before you can even start playing the map. What happens when you die? You get to hear that dialogue again. And again. Higher difficulties? Hear it …

A wise man once described this game: "Imagine being a foot soldier, in a poorly dubbed 1960s Godzilla movie that somehow melded with Starship Troopers, while tripping on hallucinogenic drugs. Yeah, it's that awesome."

This game is the perfect "I just wanna turn off my brain and have a blast". Best game for customization, destruction, and multiplayer. Its slow at first but man its so rewarding starting with 200 health and shooting seemingly blanks dealing 1.7 damage to 150 missions later having 2,000+ health shooting planet cannons that do 45,000 damage while flying around the map at Mach 2.

Its basically EDF 5 but so much more and everyone is a lobotomite "It looks just like us!" and its a frog

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Earth Defense Force 6 has some of the highest highs and lowest lows of the series. OMG I am so tired of playing the intro tutorial so many times for the sake of your throwaway "time loop" plot.
neutral · AI labelView post →I love these games, but i am giving this a bad review out of principle. This game should be 20-ish dollars at full price. Nothing has really changed about the game since the last game. Just different levels and enemies, which is fine, but sorry, you dont get to have a slight reskin and sell it for 60 dollars. Also, the devs knew they had an English speaking audience waiting for them, and they waited something crazy like 1 1/2 years to release this over here. They just needed to translate it.…

neutral · AI labelView post →absolute love the game however. the way you devs take decisions about 3rd party accounts in order to play online and make the experience worse is not understandable, first EOS then apologized about it and said " we are removing the EOS account bind in order to play online ", and you did it yet again... switch back to steam multiplayer api, even with people of my country i feel lag with this change made the game WORSE to play

neutral · AI labelView post →Potentially fun game completely ruined by desync issues. I've never played a game with desync so bad. You cannot trust that your teammate is actually at the position shown by the game and it's so annoying to kill eachother repeatedly by accident. The fact this has not been fixed already is unforgiveable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's so many games that came SO close to that list. Helldivers 2 is a gem. Shadow of the Erdtree goes without saying. Metaphor seems great. Antonblast funny. Great God Grove is 100% charm. Earth Defense Force 6 had me playing long into the night. Also yeah, 3 of my GOTY list are Early Access too

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mutliplayer Desync issues that plague this game (none of the other EDF games have it) absolutely kills the fun of the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Firstly i'd like to clarify as there are a lot of negative reviews saying the online is broken and uses epic. IT IS NOT BROKEN, they ceased using epic in a recent update and it's working fine now. So why the negative review? The actual story and content of this one i felt brought the game down, they reused a lot of levels from the previous game which isnt in itself bad, but they have time travel in the story of this and so they revisit the reused levels so many times, and imo not enough…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5 was better imo. This one doesnt do anything new at all and reuses missions from 5 in really disappointing ways. I found 4.1 to 5 a better transition compared to 5 to 6. 6 isnt bad if you got it for free but if you're buying, get 5. Feels more polished and has a better price and less lag online

neutral · AI labelView post →Earth Defense Force - bad voice acting, bad gameplay, horrible story, bad art direction, poor framerate. People made all these assets and slapped it together and it was bad. Earth Defense Force 6 is 60 dollars
negative · AI labelView post →A wise man once described this game: "Imagine being a foot soldier, in a poorly dubbed 1960s Godzilla movie that somehow melded with Starship Troopers, while tripping on hallucinogenic drugs. Yeah, it's that awesome."
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has terrible voice acting, a goofy story, and I love it. It's like playing a B movie.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like this game, and I like the series as a whole. I do think they're overpriced, but when on sale they're absolutely worth it. However I cannot recommend the game as it currently stands. Which is to say, it doesn't. After a year of not playing I fancied playing again. I downloaded the two minor bug fix updates, but unfortunately the game won't start. I've tried just about everything except for reinstalling windows. This issue seems to have been plaguing a few others who have made posts…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play EDF5 instead. Play any of the series other than this game which does not respect the player's time at all. EDF is known to be pretty grindy, yet the degree of that grind in EDF6 is so high, and not enjoyable! At least in other EDF titles it was fun to grind out weapons n' armor, here you better get 10k armor in order to tackle the "challenge" of Inferno. (Note: This requires an INSANE amount of commitment and time to get that much armor, even with cheats/trainers that pick up all items on…

neutral · AI labelView post →My rating is based off this being a sequel. I wanted to like this game so much, but there's just too many backward steps taken from the previous installment. Sandlot as developers are one of the most baffling game designers I've ever seen. In some ways their uniqueness works to their advantage, but the downside is that they don't seem to consider what their players want or like. EDF 6 has multiple missions where you have to walk slowly from point A to B to C to D, and these have ALWAYS been…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Earth Defence Force has become very routine in the past 6 entries, essentially acting as small updates to each previous installation adding a new map here, a few new weapon models there, some new enemy types, removing some older ones - a cycle of repetition that enforces the same basic gameplay. 6 isn't any different and maintains that cycle, however I will say it's the most cohesive entry in the series so far. For those unfamiliar, E.D.F is a horde shooter that has you battling against…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →75 hours in. Bottom line? Not as good as EDF5. Which is weird since they basically just took EDF5 and made new levels. Those levels just aren't as fun. They also made the wing diver not really viable on Inferno difficulty. Mostly because you can't effectively use the most powerful base game wing diver weapons without getting the most powerful jetpacks locked behind the two DLCs. So you have to use weak weapons to avoid overheating your jetpack and you feel like you're not doing anything while…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is the same as thge previous iterations with a few tweaks here and there. It's alright. Nothing new. Reason for the negative is that it was released in 2024, it's now 2026 and the game still has archaic hardcoded keybinds. If you have a varient kayboard layout, you're screwed. Controller required to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You might think there's a redeeming factor in Earth Defense Force 6 despite it being a bad game, but it being bad is part of the draw, and it is bad in so many ways that will surprise you. Genuinely a game that would've lived on the 360, released in 2024 for 60 of god's own dollars

neutral · AI labelView post →You need an Epic Games account for online play in Earth Defense Force 6 on Steam, and fans are reviewbombing the game. This requirement was also not made clear before launch. EDF6 devs are looking into making some changes.
neutral · AI labelView post →Love the game. Like all the new stuff. But the unskippable 'live' cut scenes...I just...it's kept me from going back and playing more. I mean it's not even a cut scene...it's freaking interactive cut scene. You can't walk away and come back. You must interact. The lunacy of it is off the charts. Please. Don't do this in the next one. I can promise you I will now be waiting to read discussions & reviews before I _ever_ but EDF again.

This individual bought me both 4.1 and then 5 about 6 years ago and we played through those and had the best times of my online experience. EDF 6 came out a couple years back to some issues with the whole epic network system blah blah blah, the main thing was that I couldn't drop full price on the game at the time. I will not lie that it was a weird step forward for me, I am…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey, now there's video on here I can share this clip of how incredibly satisfying it is to collect a massive pile of items at once in Earth Defense Force 6.
positive · AI labelView post →EDF is a weird series. I maybe wouldn't recommend it to most standard audiences even if it was a great entry. And this one isn't the best entry. This game is made by an oldschool Japanese console developer and he is STUBBORN. It feels like a console game from 1994. It's not awful but the game could use some serious work in places. The Menus, UIs, level select screen... It's all completely utilitarian. I'm just going to be honest, it looks awful, from the time you launch the game and enter the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best storytelling I've ever witnessed. It'd make Shakespeare weep. Voice acting is so good that I'd want them to narrate my life in real time. This is what I buy games for. 10/10 no notes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely insane, makes no sense and cheesier than Gamera movies. just the way I love it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dumb fun. Absolutely not worth full price. Wait for a sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDF games are basically like doing shrooms while on crack. It has absolutely no reason to be as fun as it is.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most negative reviews will mention this is a copy/paste of EDF 5, just wanted to clarify for those that are considering buying EDF 6. This is far from the truth, this game has nearly 1.5x the content even if you discredit the 'copy' missions from 5. If you include the DLCs (which are now 30+ missions each!) then 6 definitely has over 1.5x the content. Even apart from that, visuals have been minorly improved, characters have several new looks as well as visual changes depending on equipped gear…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An EDF game, with the usual trappings : It's ugly, It's a grindfest, It's frustrating at times. But it's also a lot of fun overall. Make sure you install the lootmaster mod so you get all your rewards at the end of a successful mission.

neutral · AI labelView post →I really liked EDF5, and this one is really fun, too. I enjoy the main themes of the game, and I think a lot of the callbacks/references to EDF5 are pretty cool. I am not quite finished with the story yet, but I can tell it's going to be nutty. Edit: Just finished the story, and holy moly. Definitely one of my favorite games of all time, and I will definitely be trying to get the 100%. If you like campy sci-fi plots with insane weapons and a lot of gratuitous fighting, EDF6 is the whole…
