Ember
Developer N-Fusion Interactive
Ember is an isometric role-playing game developed by N-Fusion Interactive and published by 505 Games. The game was released on iOS and Windows. Ember was inspired by the 1992 video game Ultima VII: The Black Gate and has received pre-release comparisons to the Ultima series and to Baldur's Gate. The game was initially meant to release in 2014 and 2015, but was pushed back in order to expand the game. From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 179 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (749 of 996 positive).
Players describe Ember as a simple, linear isometric RPG with a solid narrative and average combat. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the game tedious due to repetitive combat and excessive backtracking. [4][5][6] Others appreciate it as a casual, old-school RPG that is enjoyable for newcomers and veterans alike. [7][8][9]

First off, this isn't what i'd call a "bad" game, and i hesitate to give a thumbs down, but i hesitate even more to give it a thumbs up (but Steam is going to bug me forever about leaving a review until i do one or the other). Other reviewers have already described, in detail, the pros and cons of this game, but three cons in particular are what led me to stop playing it: 1) Combat, even against level 1 critters, is …

A very simple, barebones but good RPG game. Ticks all the boxes for me. I'm sitting at 21 hours play time currently. There's plenty to do. A bunch of side quests. You can find chests and stuff if you explore a little bit. Some basic crafting, like cooking and alchemy... Some unique weapons and armour. All pretty basic though like I said but that's not a bad thing in my opinion. Some voiced dialogue but most of it is …

For the price, Ember does a really good job of providing you with a just-good-enough experience. The story is just good enough to keep things moving. The combat is just good enough, with a just of variability and experimentation to keep things interesting. There are just enough side quests to make exploring a little further rewarding. There are just enough interesting loot and crafting to keep powering up your …

I am enjoying this game a great deal. For a dollar, I've gotten several hours of fun finishing quests, slaying monsters and basically doing everything I'd expect of an RPG. I will say this, there are some tiresome hours (yes hours) after the beginning that require a LOT of backtracking. Find A, I've found A but A has a request that I find B. I've found B, however, B also has a request that I find C, D and E. Having …

Players who liked Ember talk about solid story and world-building that becomes interesting later; those who didn't talk about combat is tedious and repetitive, with spongy enemies. Which matters more to you?

neutral · AI labelView post →Ember is an iOS game ported to the PC with barely any thought to PC standards, which is the root of all its problems. For instance, you order a party member to attack a specific target by dragging a line from the party member to the target. It's an elegant solution to the problem of trying to give orders in real-time-with-pause combat on a touchscreen... but we're not on a touchscreen anymore. Skills are attached to gear, which is unusual but not unheard of, but you use the skills by…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game has a charming look and feel to it, and at first glance is reminiscent of old-school CRPG:s like NOX. However, the game falls flat really early on for me due to two major reasons. 1, There is a lack of complexity in regards to strategy. This includes, character creation, character development, use of skills etc. You basically just dump your stat points in strength, dexterity or intelligence (depending on your focus), and some into vitality. There are no skills, talents or such to…

neutral · AI labelView post →Not sure why Ember is getting poor reviews. I'm a tremendous Diablo II, Planescape Torment, and Torchlight II fan. I'd say that Ember is a lot of fun too. Sure, I'd make some minor changes, but overall, it's excellent for what it is. A basic, isometric, single player RPG. CONS: ....(1) Nearly every thumbs-down review mentions that you need to click to a visible point on the screen to enable your main character to navigate to that place. Then you click again. You don't "steer." Instead,…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is okay. It has decent gameplay, a story that is easy to follow, although I did miss some quest markers in my map overview at times, and not a huge world. Didn't like the click to walk mechanism, but that is a personal preference. However the lack of a skill bar was really an issue for me, you just have 3 action buttons where only items can be assigned to. Now there already isn't a skill tree, so any skills you have are gear dependent and can later be added to gear with runes. But to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ember has all the basic elements of a good isometric RPG, but a host of design issues make it mediocre. Your companions pathfinding is poor. Instead of making an isometric map with objects that become transparent when they block your view of the party, or a map than can be rotated, the developers opted to simply block you fro moving behind anything, making it harder to get around that it should be. Interactable objects don't highlight until your character is right next to them. Some special…
