What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 240 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (5,998 of 6,897 positive).
Players praise the game for closely simulating the tabletop Warhammer 40k experience. [1][2][3] Many reviewers criticize the extensive paid DLC, calling it greedy and predatory. [4][5][6] Some players find the single-player campaign limited and the AI repetitive. [7][8][9]

game is fun, but i cant recommend. i really hate how game devs will make a game with the bare min and then add countless DLC HELL NAH. im so tired of DLC this DLC that, you want the base troops of 40k? sorry DLc for every army. F that im done. BUY ON DEEP SALE ONLY

Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector – The Closest You’ll Get to Tabletop Without Knocking Over Your Minis As someone who actually plays Warhammer 40K on the tabletop (and paints far too many Orks for any sane human), Battlesector has been an absolute delight. It captures the feel of 40K in a way few digital games manage — the pacing, the tactical choices, the brutal exchanges of fire… all without having to worry about …

A great turn based strategy game like the XCOM games! This is the closest officially licensed game we will ever get to the original tabletop war game. However, the amount of content being sold as paid DLC is disgusting!

Honestly, we are lucky to even get games like this, 40K has really exploded in popularity lately, and that generally means the games turn into low content action schlock. 40K is a tabletop war game after all, when you want to adopt a tabletop wargame to the PC/consoles, you typically make a wargame. It's decent for what it is. The good: hey! it's like the tabletop...sort of. There's a pretty big variety of units, …

Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector (2021) Probably one of the best games to simulate the tabletop game, you get to play as the Blood Angels or the Tyranid hive as you get to build your army and pit them against each other. It's a lot of fun and the ai can provide a decent challenge. There is a campaign that is rather long, you need to complete certain objectives while you obliterate the enemy while you work towards …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector received "mixed or average" reviews according to review aggregator Metacritic. Luke Plunkett of Kotaku gave a positive review and said: "My favourite thing about this entire game is its voice acting, which takes a solid strategy game and turns it into a memorable 40K experience." Joe Robinson of PCGamesN summarized the game as "[a] solid turn-based strategy experience that explores the Space Marine power fantasy, marred by humdrum mission design." Jon Bolding of IGN gave a positive review and said: "The momentum-based tactical system and broad customizability of the forces you lead, combined with randomization in the mission setups, gives you a fun campaign…

neutral · AI labelView post →Unfortunately, I have to give this game a negative review. You might wonder why, since Battlesector looks like it should be a blast: a turn-based, tactical 40k strategy game where you’re not just herding a couple of heroes around, but commanding a whole tabletop-style army. So… what went wrong? Pros: A well-executed 40k license, especially visually. The units look great, look authentic, and sometimes I caught myself staring at their idle animations longer than I’d like to admit. A charmingly…

neutral · AI labelView post →Great take on Warhammer 40k, the turn based play style works really well. Unfortunately, as with most Warhammer games, the predatory microtransactions required just to play other factions is present here as well. Even with the winter sale discount, that's $70 worth of DLC in order to get the "full" experience. No thanks!

positive · AI labelView post →THE GAME: Warhammer 40,000 is a squad-level minatures game, which means it is about moving little men across a table which represents part of a planet and pretending that the little men are shooting and punching each other. Jules Verne did this too, so it's intellectual
positive · AI labelView post →The game is fun but its quickly turning into paradox interactive levels of DLC nonsense, $133 for all the current content. I also feel ripped off because I bought the sisters of battle army for $15, only for them to release a sisters of battle story dlc for an additional $15 that I dont care about, but it also includes 2 more units for the sisters army, so you dont even get the full army you buy, they split 2 units off into another DLC for the same price. Absolute scum. This really put me off…

With an amazing easy to understand player interface. It does not. I am also not happy with the replay system for watching your opponent's turn in multiplayer it is terrible. Glitches during playback, doesn't follow the action. It is a mess. I played games 20 years ago with a much better playback feature that allowed you to fast…

neutral · AI labelView post →Don't get me wrong, the game isn't bad. It's actually pretty good, but the way Slitherine monetizes DLC's boggles my mind. It's not as bad as what Paradox does, but it's getting there. And not all DLCs add campaigns. Some add just a few units or a faction. Without any discounts, the DLCs cost about 4x the price of the base game. Add on top of that the fact that newer DLC factions have a power creep problem, making them almost mandatory to play online and a variety that bugs that plagued the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll admit it's a pretty solid game. Combat seems decent enough, and the story tries not to step on established lore. So why can I not give it a thumbs up? DLC practices. I am sorry to the developers, they've done a good job, but the cost of over £10 per faction is just not good enough. Without any of the DLC you only get Tyranids and Astartes (Blood Angels) to play with. For this reason, I can not give it a positive review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you like the table top game then you will love this version... they just need more factions added to make it perfect...they should a\ADD A PAINT YOUR ARMY OPTION ..BUT TH3Y WONT THYE WILL MAKE YOU PAY FOR IT...TYPICAL 40K GREED. SADLY..

neutral · AI labelView post →For Warhammer fans this is a solid game. It's similar to the tabletop but it's not going to replace it anytime soon. For tactical strategy fans, this game is janky as hell. I know modern indie games are rushed out the gate to make deadlines but this game came out in 2021 and still has the weirdest bugs that have never been addressed while the DLC keeps piling on. Imagine paying the original 40 bucks they were asking (luckily I got this for cheap in a bundle) I don't have any DLC but it seems…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted this game to be like the tabletop. Unfortunately, it differs quite a lot in its mechanics and execution here. There is also the high cost of admission (DLC's etc). The AI also is very much on the weaker side. 5/10.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the main issues with Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector is that each faction has access to only a small fraction (roughly 1/10) of the units that exist in the tabletop game. On top of that, the DLCs are often sold at a significant price while still feeling incomplete, which creates a disappointing and, at times, predatory business model. If the goal is truly to create a fun, long-lasting, and engaging system, the developers should listen more closely to player feedback. A concrete and…

AI can literally charge through cover (which shouldn't be possible), can shoot through massive stone cliffs (which shouldn't be possible), can ignore armor on units (which shouldn't be possible) and can make much more of this nonsense. And many, many crashes. This game was promising in the beginning but since the other studio took over it's just another DLC sale policy crap without balancing or bug fixing. I’m really tired of modern games launching with the bare minimum amount of content and then locking everything else behind endless DLC. Want the basic armies and factions that should already be included in a Warhammer 40K game? Too bad — DLC for every army.
