The game is just too hard, even on normal difficulty. It's grueling, unforgiving, and made in a way that if you don't optimize everything to the T, you're going to fail missions, and soon the whole campaign. At that point, you have to restart the entire campaign... 20-30h of gameplay down the drain. The game is so hard, that you'll have to save constantly, cause one small mistake could be fatal. There's absolutely …

I have thousands of hours in XCOM2. I bought this game on release. 2 weeks into it there was a bug that bricked my last 3 save files (game would fail to load them). Upon trying to play through it by going back hours in time, I encountered yet another bug where the turn would soflock on the enemy turn without flipping back control to me. Came back years later, the issues still exist. I'm sorry but this was probably …

BAD BALANCING!!!! This game has probably got the worst balancing issues I've ever seen in a game of it's class (turn based squad combat). The game features heavy impact rng elements both in combat and in campaign, which can and potentially will ruin your day. You can literally lose an entire campaign worth days of gaming to rng factors. The same accounts for battles. When I first started this game I played on …

It is with a heavy heart and a righteous fury that I submit this report. The tactical simulations provided to our initiates—codenamed Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters—are not merely flawed; they are an affront to the Emperor’s strategic brilliance. If our Brothers fought as these simulations dictate, the Segmentum Solar would have fallen millennia ago. 1) The Sin of Indolence (Lack of Testing). The cogitators governing this simulation are plagued by scrapcode. On numerous deployments, the sacred…

Initially i felt the difficutly in normal mode was comically hard until i realised what internet can tell you, there is 1 way to build a team : The interceptor center piece and a bunch of cheerleaders. It completely trivialise the game but its nescessary if you don't want to redo the same mission 3 times in row. You can't play ranged or defensive because the computer plays…

I should love Chaos Gate and I'm ploughing on with it until something else grabs my attention, but I can't honestly recommend it. Imagine if XCOM and Rogue Trader had a baby that got the worst bits of both - that's Chaos Gate. Never have I missed XCOM's random number generator more, and that difference is supposedly one of the good things about the game. And it's actually more annoying than that because there are plenty of random events that can be much more crippling and annoying than…

The spike in difficulty is too quick and too sharp, but this would be ok if it wasn't for the fact that there is only one autosave, and it's after the end of every action, not at the start or end of a turn. The game clearly wants you to save-scum it, because every action is punishable and of the 10 possible outcomes, only 1 is the right one. Worst of all, the option to restart a mission takes you to the start of the mission, regardless of whether or not you are at the second stage of said…

Extremely frustrating This is the most frustrating game I've played this year. For every one thing it does well, it seems to balance it out with five things it does badly. The game is essentially an attempt to make an XCOM-like game, but it focuses on and amplifies some of the weirdest aspects of XCOM while leaving out a lot of the things that made XCOM work so well. The Commander You play as a commander, just like in XCOM. Your character is essentially a faceless and voiceless avatar…

Like others have said- basically WH40K meets XCOM. However, the difficulty scaling is absolutely absurd. It'd be fine if the game mechanics were better balanced towards this. Bloom is basically the Avatar project from XCOM but in every mission, and it rises 25% every turn + 5-10% if you use "warp" based abilities. This leads to any random hat pull of enemy buffs, extra pod spawns, or debuffs for you. You have a squad limit of 4 typically, but even tiny autoguns will do like 3-5 HP out of your…

The core gameplay is solid, but some of the design decisions are baffling. I have no idea why the game forces you to completely enable or disable things like ship warp-travel cutscenes in the options menu instead of simply letting players skip them with a mouse click when they don't want to watch them. Another issue is movement. There is no reason the game couldn't let you press Tab to switch control to another soldier while one is moving. Instead, you're forced to sit there and watch a single…

I really tried getting into this game, but it is so frustrating that I cannot recommend it. Chaos Gate - Daemon hunters is an X-Com style game in a Warhammer 40K setting. This is a combination that should sell like hot cookies but the game drops the ball on the technical level. The game is riddled with so many annoying bugs. Really wanted to enjoy this game. I am not a huge Warhammer fan, but I appreciate the lore. The first few missions felt fine, then I took a break and came back later. That is when things started to fall apart. The interface is hard to read, and it’s difficult to tell your knights apart beyond their names. Getting back into the campaign was confusing, and the game quickly forced me into missions that felt overwhelmingly difficult. I don’t mind a challenge, but this feels unbalanced. I…

Take X-COM2, put a WH40k skin on it, then make every aspect of the game, e.g. combat, progression, weapons, ui, movement, maps and even scroll speed (ffs!) much worse. On top have a ridiculous (bloom) counter in every mission that spawns hordes and hordes of enemies that each act so slowly and in sequence that you fall asleep every other turn. Top it all off with a "enemies move when you first see them" mechanic that get's old already in the second encounter. This is not turn based tactic. This…

I really wanted to like this, but I just can't recommend it. I am admittedly not great at turn based games and usually don't enjoy them, but I make exceptions if it is in a universe I like. Enjoyed XCOM, loved the Rogue Trader CRPG. Thought this would be fine. I found it oppressively difficult. Like after my first mission I am getting my teeth smashed. This is one of the hardest slog games I've ever reluctantly enjoyed. "X-COM WITH WARHAMMER 40K GREY KNIGHTS" That's it, that's the game. You should be interested, it sounds awesome. X-com like map, x-com like base, x-com like squad, mechanics, turns, even an x-com like abrupt ending. However, this game (especially if you tick on the special addon enemies) is damn near impossible for poorly designed reasons. If you're playing on hard, you will lose. Period. So I’d written about the first Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine before, which I’d assumed was the first ever Games Workshop Space Marine, but turns out that accolade goes to ‘Doctor Who: The Game of Time & Space’ from 1980.
