What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 187 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (15,944 of 19,101 positive).
Players praise the game's unique identity and deep strategic variety among factions. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note a steep learning curve, especially for Civilization veterans. [4][5][3] Several players report technical issues, including crashes and poor multiplayer netcode. [6][7][8]

I don't recommend buying this game if you intend to play multiplayer at all. Netcode is horrendous and the game frequently desynchronizes, even with Community Patch installed (2.7.9 as of this writing) and on a wired Ethernet connection. The issue gets worse as the match progresses, and we had to reload saves and resync on nearly every turn by the end. Nearly unplayable if you're on anything less than a LAN …

This game is fantastic truly. But you have to accept it for what it is, not what you expect it to be. If you want to know why so many people love it, just read the positive reviews or watch gameplay videos. The important thing is that this game is genuinely unique. It’s not “Civilization but fantasy,” and it’s not trying to be Warlock or Age of Wonders. It has its own identity, and that’s exactly why it stands out. …

This game reminds me of when I first had to use an Apple computer in school after being a PC user for years. You know how to operate it, you know what you are doing with it but you still have to relearn everything because they decided to use different words for the same things e.i. (background vs. wallpaper). If you've played Civilization you know how to play this, but you're going to have to do some serious testing …

It has been a while since I played this game, but I enjoyed my time on it :) It is a fantasy 4x game but with a lot of asymetrical mechanics between the factions. Also, this is not the cookie cutter fantasy world. It has its own unique feel. Mechanically, the game is strong if difficult to learn. It may take a while to do that but it is an enjoyable process. The various DLC adds many interesting mechanics like …

Endless Legend combines deep 4X strategy with unique factions that each play very differently, making every campaign feel distinct. Balancing exploration, city management, diplomacy, and warfare creates plenty of meaningful decisions throughout the game. While it has a learning curve, its strategic depth and replay value make it well worth the investment.

Something that wasn't there, suddenly appears and there is nothing we can do about it. This should not be allowed. Enjoyed this game a lot, the amazing graphics, the gameplay but this is too much. Can't support this.

neutral · AI labelView post →The game was good but in 2025 it does not run on too many operating system versions anymore (macos, different versions, different laptops, cryptic "input not supported blackscreen). Be wary when buying. edit: I spent some more time browsing obscure forums and posts and found an advice to delete all folders the game ever created, after doing that and a fresh installation the game launches. That is a ridiculous reason to throw an error, given it's game own config/setup that does that. I was so…

Enter the hot Goth chick who walks in with her cherry red laptop and her confident stride, above the lowly peons where she sits and broods out of the window as she awaits her laptop to boot up. The teacher calls in sick, and it has become a free period…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Switch to high resolution UI in the settings - Suitable for genre noobs - Not the most modern, but manageable - Not forcing you to know the lore or whatever - Do not auto-battle, go manual, it's good So, the game is simple and a banger at the same time. A lot of tiny things to account for, a lot of minor details that make the whole picture. I was planning to check it for like 10 minutes and instantly got hooked for almost two hours. Wiped a few civilization for fun and power, saved some…

But 5 days ago, it just started crashing as soon as you hit play. I uninstalled it several times. I re-installed it on different HDs each time. I rebooted constantly throughout this process. Everytime I hit "PLAY" it does start and then crashes out 3 seconds later. Everytime I choose the "Validate Files" option as well. And everytime it will re-download the executable. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A 4X game of real personality. A veteran of many hundreds of hours spent playing various versions of Civ, at first I found it a tougher transition to this game than I was expecting. But the heroes and the questline bring an interest of individual units that is largely missing in Civ. And compared to Civ the various races are much more distinct in their character. It doesn't have quite the epic feel of Civ, but these days I find myself enjoying Endless Legend more. Highly recommended!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game and I have been playing it for over a decade. Even now I would absolutely recommend it. It goes on sale pretty often so if you are curious I would totally recommend giving it a shot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some faction names aren't very descriptive. If you tech them right, those Broken Lords won't be Broke at all well into the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My experience with 4X games is quite superficial, but from what I've seen, Endless Legend seems to be an excellent game. Or at least it's new enough to benefit from several quality-of-life improvements and be quite intuitive and seemingly balanced (and not hurt the eyes), and old enough not to cost an arm and a leg. For a novice like me looking for highly customizable and replayable casual fun, the game definitely hits the spot. With a satisfying learning curve and those classic, highly…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fine ad fun with K/M. But I reinstalled it because "partial controller support". It has no controller support. There's some baloney logic that "they published a steam controller profile" to justify this. I'm not sure who (dev/publisher/steam) is responsible for this gross misrepresentation of "partial controller support", but if you want to play on your couch, I can't recommend this otherwise good game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is definitely for fans of the Civilization franchise. If you despise the Civ franchise as I do, you will almost certainly not like this game. It takes many hours to get anywhere while learning the advancement and combat aspects of the game, and the payoff is excruciating combat mechanics. After 20 hours put into a single player campaign, I am defending my city with ranged troops, melee troops, and the most worthless fortress in the history of video games. It offers zero cover or…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game sucks. I start my first new game, pick a faction and hit the map. Turn 15 or so rolls around, I accidentally fulfill some arbitrary objective, and the game throws invading enemies at my two fledgling cities' doorsteps, instantly bankrupting me and taking away all ability to defend myself from said enemies. I then lose my entire military to the first one while the second one is able to ruin me single-handedly. If this is any indication of how future games will go, I'm refunding…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →while the game itself is fun .. after playing it a lot it began crashing at the splash screen.... nothing will fix this not even removing and replacing all files and the game or all of the fixes on the web. I can't recommend a game that won't start anymore
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent 4x. And 2nd installement is in the development. I just wish they would bring this one to GoG store so it would be DRM free and offering offline installers for game preservation purposes (Altho ...truth be told its DRM free even here, you can run the game without steam thats why I bought it. Buuuut no offline installer here :/ )
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a game that I return from time to time. Still have some faction untried. Cultists are one of the most interesting ones, to me. Game allows for some unconventional shenigans. Can't wait to try out the second game after it's finished. Few things that are a bit annoying - first winter, pearl hunting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really like the designs and its got its own uniqueness in music, design etc. going. However it is boring as hell. It offers you essentially the complexity of Stellaris, while making it twice as boring. Better play HOM3, while less research oriented, it at least does not put you to sleep.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Every menu in this game is counterintuitive and akwardly designed. It's one of those games I accidentally bought, try out, dismiss and forget to refund, then thinking every 1-2 years while noticing it in my library thinking "oh well, let's try it out again" and completely dismiss after 15 minutes again for it's obvious designflaws.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Endless Legend is part of the Endless universe, but unlike Endless Space, it leans heavily into fantasy rather than pure sci-fi. That works well. Why? On the world of Auriga, different factions fight for dominance, and advanced tech often feels more like magic or ancient relics. Each faction plays very differently, which keeps things fresh, and the dynamic winters add an extra strategic layer that makes the gameplay more interesting. The game is played on a hex grid, and both the visuals and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game looked really interested and a change of pace from Civ. However, I am returning the game for a refund. Game crashes on launch every time. It does seem to launch ok on my MacBook Pro M3 Max, if I unplug my monitor. However, I have the monitor exactly to play games on -- not the actual laptop scrren. From reading thru posts on Steam forums, reddit, and games2gether, this has been an identified problem for a long time, just not fixed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Each faction is completely different to the other. Beautiful art and music. A little bit hard because it is too different if you compare it to Civilization, but I like it because it feels unique. 100% recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first time I am playing a game like this and even on Easy difficulty my kingdom suffered after around 80 turns. I kept playing but even having strong armies and doing advanced researches, pacifying other minor factions I kept getting outplayed by the AI. I tried searching for an answer on the internet and I found out that I have to follow some guides to build my empire in the early stages of the game. WTH?? Why can't I just learn while playing? Why do I need guides... does this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would rate it a thumb up if not for horrible in battle ui and optimisation. It's clunky af and after some time I just couldn't stomach it anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best, if not the best, 4X of the last decade. Still plays well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game ruined by the totally unnecessary "winter" mechanics. Every ten or so turns, the game world turns into an ice age. All the building and improvements a player has spent countless turns building up get crippled, the movements of armies turn into a crawl. This mechanic adds nothing to the gameplay, it just handicaps the game needlessly. As the game progresses, winters become ever longer and never ending. After a winter that lasted more than 20 turns, decided to uninstall the game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First things first, I am not much of a 4x Gamer, let alone a competitive one. Factor that in when reading my review. I also got the game for free in a giveaway ages ago, but have since purchased the DLCs. In my personal opinion, this game feels a little barebones without the DLCs, I'd recommend picking everything up on a sale if you consider to buy this game with the intent to keep it. If you are more uncertain, buy the basegame (ideally on a sale) and check it out to get a feel for the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat is really not for me. Coming from TWW3 where all the campaign depth revolves around giving you OP armies, this is the other way around. Military conquest is a super minimal turn-based mini game with seemingly very low skillcap, and rewards for winning are ambiguous. I know a lot of things are modular but I jumped in on default settings and raising an army was painfully slow, even though I was a swarm race of insectoids. Great art, really weak gameplay for me. Probably fun when played…

positive · AI labelView post →Pretty cool. The world building, music and art are all good. The controls and UI are a little obtuse to navigate for the first hour, but the game becomes more clear relatively quickly. I definitely enjoy this more than many Civ-likes. Ultimately just about every aspect of this game seems to done better by Age of Wonders 4. I couldn't shake the feeling that I might've enjoyed this game back in 2014, but it's pushing 13 years old now. Your $30 would be much better spent toward that similar…
