What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 27 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (57 of 73 positive).
Players widely compare Ex Sanguis to Othercide, seeing it as a spiritual successor or iteration. [1][2][3] Many praise the game's atmosphere, art style, and music as standout features. [4][5][6] Some reviewers find the Early Access version bare-bones and lacking story or differentiation. [7][8][9]

I'll be honest it's pretty disappointing... I'll compare it to Othercide cuz it's what is the closest to me in spirit. As of now it looks like this is not even half of what Othercide was. No story, no codex, no lore. Just a settings menu that makes the game lag whenever you move anything. A tutorial with boxes that get out of the screen (really now?). Three base classes that are very unbalanced from the very start. …

Ex Sanguis is something of a spiritual successor to Othercide which is, hopefully, still in the very early stages of development. As such, frankly, if you have not played Othercide, YOU SHOULD PLAY THAT FIRST. Othercide was a completed game, and, in my opinion, a piece of art. Ex Sanguis is an iteration on that model. They are trying to fix a few things, such as removing some of the more degenerate combinations, …

I felt so badass when I beat my first level! The mood is peak and the music is so good (I need to get it!). I've lost a couple of time trying to brute force my objectives but I think I got it now. So far what I've seen is very promising for an early access and I accept the flaws within an indie game when it offers me something so stylish to play with. And yes, and I think I've found inspirations for my next cosplay!

Awesome & immersive tactics game! So far given me 20 hours of that ‘one more turn feeling’ which I almost never get these days. As an Othercide player, it took a couple of hours to appreaciate. My first reaction was meh – very similar to Othercide, but changed in ways that lost what made the original so unique. But after persevering I’m seeing all the changes as a positive. Battle babes fully heal after each …

Very similar to Othercide: it's a turn-based tactics game where actions take place on a timeline, all your attacks always hit, and you have all the information to figure out how enemies will move, so it becomes a "damage Tetris" puzzle of positioning and doing the right attacks in the right order. Unlike Othercide, your characters heal up between each battle, but runs tend to be much shorter. Every battle has a …

neutral · AI labelView post →At this time I would recommend against trying Sanguis. Part of me really doesn't want to, as I know how much momentum is lost for a game when the average review rating falls below a certain threshold, but at the same time I feel like in this particular case it's also just the risk of launching into Early Access. A lot of the gripes I have with the title could have been easily avoided with a bit more playtesting. My main problem with Sanguis is not that I think the concept doesn't work; it's a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I might have overstayed in the main menu vibing with the music and these three warriors ! There are already tons of good things for an Early Access game so I'm sending my support to the devs I'm really curious to know more about their plans in details !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ex Sanguis is a mix bag compare to their previous titles. You basically drop in to battle after the tutorial and picking which Battle you want to fight, there basically two type, one is focus on killing 1 unit (tough) or multiple units, afterward you are rewarded with common- legend skill for each characters (Roguelike). You are not advice to battle every single units, or you will be overun by the enemies as they spawn. There three boss battle in the early access, which is quite normal…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was hoping for more but... ...this just seems like Othercide remixed. I love Othercide, it's great but I don't feel a strong need to own another version of the same game. Yes, there are differences but so many of the underlying systems and concepts in this game are the same that it doesn't feel like it's worth owning at this point. I'll give it another chance on final release but I'm not going to put anymore time into the EA version at this point.

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is not half bad considering it is in early access. I am a very big fan of Othercide but I could not help feeling like the story has the similar plot. I am hoping it is a twist and is in the same universe as Othercide. My big gripe or gripes with this game is the combat feels extremely one sided and starting a new memory run is more tedious than anything else. Unlike Othercide where you could return units, skip bosses you have beat etc. Ex Sanguis makes you go through the slog over and…

Atmosphere: Stunningly dark, setting the perfect mood right from the start thanks to the amazing soundtrack and visual style. Gameplay: Challenging but very rewarding. The mechanics are smooth and well thought out. Development: The roadmap looks fantastic, and it's great to see developers who actually communicate with their player base. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After burning through Othercide last winter, and signing up for Ex Sanguis's playtests, I'm happy to say Ex Sanguis is shaping up to be a good iteration (crucially, not a sequel) of what the devs established in Othercide. Firstly and least suprisingly, they nailed the style and vibes in Ex Sanguis. Its striking aesthetics are matched well with the combat music to drive home the brutal tension of a mission slowly spiraling out of control. Unlike Othercide, which very much felt like "let's put…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Initial impressions: Reminds me of the tower defense game Jelly Defense It's now a Rogue like 3/4 view perspective You start a team of 3 You get 3 classes to choose from You pick a skill/ability for each one Things I don't like: doesn't support 1440p properly No controller support No camera rotation No undoing turns No character customization insofar as looks The hardcore rock music - I will probably mute this I'm not sure if I like it being a rogue like. I guess I'll have to play longer to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ex Sanguis Roguelite turn-based tactics game with a striking black-white-red colour scheme. Immediately reminiscent of Othercide from the same devs, but faster and more aggressive. ...Very rough demo though; I'm looking forward to the full game, but I get the feeling it's gonna take a while.
neutral · AI labelView post →Ex Sanguis demo is happening. New black/white/red colored tactical fights game from the Othercide people. Sweeet. I still need to finish Othercide (my brain is bad at extended tactical fights) but damn if I ain't tempted anyway.

positive · AI labelView post →Ex Sanguis is a game with a lot of potential. Whether that potential comes to be realized or not remains to be seen throughout the games full Early Access period, but I am hopeful from what I've played so far. As with their previous game Othercide, Lightbulb Crew has really proven once again they have have a knack for visual flair, atmosphere and music which should be obvious to you from the preview images you can see above. However, that alone is not enough to make a good game or this game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a lot of fun to be had with this game. The timeline system is pretty unique and fun idea. However if you have played Othercide, there is a sense that the developers have not done enough to differentiate itself. I'm hopeful that given time this game will be a meaningful step forward from Othercide. For the price you will certainly get your money's worth and this is one of the few games that makes you stop and really think about your moves which I really appreciate.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →once again, sold on the artstyle alone (Othercide) highly recommend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wonderful successor of Othercide. Even in Early Access, core game mechanics already look solid. Every step of the way game provides you with meaningful choices to tailor your experience. I like how easily you can change the difficulty and "power" of your party. There are 3 major resources available to you during the run: memories (how many fights left in the current run), blood (gained in encounters, needed to meet certain thresholds to enter boss battles) and how many abilities/traits your…
