What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 238 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (6,733 of 7,909 positive).
Players praise the cozy, storybook aesthetic and relaxed pacing. [1][2][3] Many note that the game becomes repetitive and lacks depth after a few hours. [4][5][6] A common complaint is that villagers starve despite having food, which some call a bug. [7][8][9]

I love this game, I really, really do. It's challenging and very cute, but I can't recommend this game when it has such a huge bug. Fablins will just starve to death even if you have enough food. I do hope they fix it soon, it's been in the game for a very long time from what I've read.

Fabledom is basically what happens when you take a traditional city-builder, strip away all the stressful corporate anxiety and bathe the entire thing in a warm, storybook fairy tale blanket. Right from the start, the game leans hard into its whimsical atmosphere. It looks and feels like a living pop-up book, complete with a delightfully cozy art style, charming animations and a lightly humorous narrator who treats …

A short and cute game. Pick it up on sale, I wouldn't say its worth the full 21€. The beginning of the game sets a very different tone than the rest, which is unfortunate. I loved the early events of discovery, of strange locations and critters that give dilemmas. But after the first ~2 hours, these events dry out entirely and you are left with a pretty repetitive cycle. Once you start building towns, you've seen …

Honestly a really easy game to pick up. It doesn’t overwhelm you at the start, and you can pretty much jump in and start building your little kingdom without needing a degree in city planning. It’s also one of those games that pairs perfectly with a podcast or something playing in the background; very chill, very low stress. As a city builder, it’s pretty good. The core gameplay loop works, the systems are …

77% of the 238 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Fabledom. The complaint that keeps coming up: repetitive gameplay after the first few hours. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Fabledom received "generally favourable" reviews from critics, according to review aggregator site Metacritic. GameStar rated the game 79/100 and described the game as a relaxing "construction game with few weaknesses and a charming scenario." neutral · AI labelView post →I'm not really sure I'd call this "laid-back" as the blurb seems to claim. As pretty as it is to look at, it's pretty shallow, while also being really tedious later on. Resource gathering/generation seems to be super unbalanced and doesn't really make much sense. After a few hours of gameplay I had almost 2000 Iron from only 2 Iron Mines, yet nothing to really use it on, while I had 6 Charcoal Kilns going, yet my stock was continually stuck on 0 or 1, with my villagers complaining they had no…

I have plenty of food, they don't have to go that far, and they're like, you know what would be cool? Choosing to starve to death. That really needs to be addressed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright, from the get-go - I really like the core concepts of the game: the mechanics, amazing art style, music, and all interactions between fablings. The early and mid-game experience is strong and engaging, with random events like ogres, witches, dragon attacks, or a POIs like Barskin. But this is where my praise ends, because the game feels unpolished. A lot of mechanics lack proper continuation. While progression is rewarding at first, it suddenly cuts off - even before reaching the…

The production chains—from farmers to bread—are glacially slow. Even when food is made, the workers eat it themselves before anyone else gets a bite. Everyone else? They just die. Of. Hunger. And it’s not just bread—fish and vegetables are equally useless. Manually assigning workers is a nightmare. It’s ridiculous. Take the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since Steam doesn't offer a mid/positive option, I'm inclined to recommend this even though I encountered many fundamental flaws throughout the game which stopped me playing several times. Overall it's a 6/10, but the game is bursting at the seams with unutilised potential. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience with Fabledom, but not without a series of frantic Google searches to try and figure out what should be very clearly-defined core mechanics. Like almost all other previous players,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoy playing this game and find it to be a fresh take on city builders, but cannot recommend it in its current state. Like many others have mentioned, after getting about 3 hours in, it started crashing every 20 minutes or so, on the lowest graphics settings. My PC can handle other, more graphically demanding games without issue. Will return to the game once the crashing issue is fixed, but for now 20 minutes of playtime is not worth the risk of damaging my graphics card.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game about organizing a population of italian midgets to collect material wealth for you to bribe a partner into marrying you. I chose Agnes because the 3D artist took the time to make her tits jiggle. Despite the cute aesthetic optimal play involves building a segregated caste society and labor ghettos. No matter how efficient you are you will still spend a lot of time waiting for wood planks and bricks to be made. It seems to be a theme of any city building game made in the last 10 years.…

You do get a few hours of gameplay, but it is not in-depth enough during the end game. Just repetition later down the line. Would buy it on sale at $6.29 for a few hours of gaming, but would not pay $20.99 for a lackluster game. 2.5/5.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This looked quite promising and slightly different than other city builders. Upon playing it more and more, it did feel like another city builder with a neat concept and a nice layer of visuals to get people bought in. In short, not a bad game, not a great game, but certainly doesn't scratch the "oh that's new" itch. Fabledom's gameplay is quite standard for a city-builder/settlement builder of this calibre. Basic controls regarding the camera are included and feel flexible, smooth, and easy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Normally I would avoid City builder games due to micromanagement and long grind. BUT, this one surprised me a bit with its small scope, relaxed pacing and simple systems. A cozy game with a cute art style to truly be enjoyed on those days you just feel like being peaceful. Image rainy days with a cup of Milo or Hot-chocolate and a blanket over the shoulders at your gaming rig. The main story can be completed in a single day, which is great for a short play session. Steam achievement…

I've played about ~20 hours of this game, both an earlier Early Access version and the more recent pre 1.0 version (mostly played this one). I have not played the 1.0 version. It's a fun, casual base-builder with tycoon elements executed in the style of a kingdom management game. Compared to many base-builders, you get to manage your own hero in-game. The integration between the overland map and the actual kingdom building…
positive · AI labelView post →I really want to like this game – truly I do. It's cute; it works well enough performance-wise. You get some nice decoration options for the low-tier housings, some encounters here and there, but sadly that’s it. Playing on the “cruel” difficulty is no challenge at all. So for me it’s great to fall asleep – it's very slow-paced, the background music is quite relaxing, and you don’t really have much to do in-game once you set everything up; you would just wait and wait and wait for missions to…

neutral · AI labelView post →Absolutely adore this game! It's a cozy city builder with very few mechanics to learn. Most of the recent reviewers seem to note that farmers will starve despite being food, which is why I'm posting, because they seem to have misunderstood a fundamental part of the logistics management. The skill in this game doesn't come from idly putting everyone in farms and waiting for gold; it's an active logistical challenge to make sure farmers are housed close to their workplaces so they are both happy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Read reviews about this game being buggy, but decided to try it out anyway. Within just a couple hours I already had the bug where all of my people are starving. I built more farms than seemingly would be necessary trying to combat this bug, but still I will watch my workers carry boxes of food to storage and the food never actually accumulates. Looking this up and seeing it's been a problem for years and never been fixed. This is a game breaking bug that they can't be bothered to fix.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a very cute game, a lot of potential adding fairy tales but wasted, should have more interactions with fairy tale creatures, playing mid game game starts to feel unbalanced, fighting in-game is just bleh, soldiers are totally useless and takes too much time to train, only thing useful is just grinding hero level
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I went into this game super curious… and came out like “that’s it?” It’s a cozy, easygoing city builder with a lovely aesthetic, but it leans a bit too much into simplicity. The romance system — which I was most excited about — didn’t really deliver. Not a bad game at all, just a bit repetitive and lacking something to keep you hooked long-term. (And yes, I married Sir Payne. Obviously.)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fabledom puts a distinctive twist on city-building, wrapping the experience in a storybook aesthetic and introducing a variety of fantastical challenges. Bright and charming while still offering real difficulty, it provides city-sim veterans with plenty to tackle, along with engaging political and romantic elements that keep the gameplay feeling lively and fresh.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4 1/2 out of 5 stars This game is so much fun, and that's from someone who doesn't usually play city-building games. The graphics, the animations, the gameplay - it's all very satisfying and colorful. You really feel like you're creating a magical story from a fairytale. There are some bugs, of course - my fablings had a hard time figuring out roads on hills, and a few died while standing outside the hospital instead of going inside. And honestly, the men you can pick from to "romance" are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The premise is cute, but there isn't enough there there behind the game. Even in 3x speed it felt like a lot of waiting for things.

neutral · AI labelView post →Took me 7 hours to get to "end game" and see everything the game has to offer. No challenge even on max difficulty your first playthrough on easy will be the same as your last playthrough on cruel difficulty. Now my personal problems with the game. None of the mechanics are explained, you don't know how to rank higher, how npc pathing works, or anything. Npcs will starve with a house full of food either because they refuse to eat or the head of the house doesn't leave the house to supply it.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high hopes for this game but unfortunuatly it has a lot of issues, lacks support from the developers and is missing crucial in-game information to properly play this kind of game. I had fun the first few hours of the game but once you start being mid-game (or whatever stage after 4-5h) you really start to see the issues this game has. Let me give you a few examples: - At some point villagers just die from starvation even though there is plenty of food everywhere - Wood cutters…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decently fun for few hours. I bought it with 60% discount (~8 euros price) and for that price it's okay game. Negatives: There is a lot of waiting around. Game randomly takes a cut of your money (family aid in balance sheet) romance options are pretty bad. I.e if you wanna romance a female leader, you're bascically shooting yourself in the foot, because their bonuses are bad. Why not randomize bonuses between leaders? You sometimes have to micromanage where your workers work, which can be…

neutral · AI labelView post →Picked it up for $8, def worth it for a chill builder. World map/relations is a nice touch to the game if a little thin. Advanced materials take too long to produce, so I rely on quests that offer crafted materials. I like the quest system, but the Hero should be incorporated into quests to make it more interesting. It would be great if buildings could be upgraded, there are limited choices as it stands. Worth playing, has some neat ideas, but not super deep.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks nice, that's it. Unbalanced, shallow and unplayable in mid-game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad game, not properly finished, has a lot of issues and the devs refuse to fix, even the most obvious ones, still misses features or options that would make it a complete game, some people can't even save the game, there is no real late game content and it's unbalanced, citizen would almost always starve, without mentioning that it just keeps crashing

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite city builder games. Highly HIGHLY suggest to anyone who is looking for a cozy builder.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty standard survival city builder like Banished, but it's a quite bit more forgiving than others, which allows for a more casual experience. There are quests and relationships, which aren't amazing, but they are a nice little side bit to add to the formula. I was afraid the military aspect would be an annoying distraction that helt out of place, but it's not that bad. There's no real detriment to just ignoring military, which is nice, considering other games will spam waves of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun take on city management games and a quirky art style for the first dozen hours its good fun. But after a while you see a lot of missing things that you see in other city builder games. My two biggest complaints are the barebones charts/records and how slow the game play's on the fastest speed. On the 3x speed it feels like thats just the normal speed for other city builders. Should add another speed at 6x.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →52. Against the Storm Another city builder game with a dark fantasy twist! The graphics for this reminds me of WoW a bit! Seems like it would be fun but would I play it before Fabledom? 🤔
neutral · AI labelView post →Overall, I would mostly recommend this game, it's a lot of fun. Similar to games like Foundation. I did however start to run into the issue where my people were starving despite there being food availability. If they can get that bug fully sorted out, I wouldn't have anything negative to say.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a simple city builder, with fairy tale elements. It's a bit simpler and more whimsical than your normal city builder; I think this is a good thing. If you don't want to crunch numbers, or be too exacting you can still enjoy some simple management and city building in Fabledom. This also lends itself to more replays, as a game is easier to 'complete' so that you can pursue each suitor. However, the types of fairy tale encounters are the same in each play through, and there aren't many,…
