What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 208 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (1,292 of 1,333 positive).
Players describe it as a cozy, beginner-friendly survival horror game with a heartfelt story. [1][2][3] Many praise the simple puzzles, engaging gameplay, and lack of jump scares. [4][5][6] Some find it too easy or short, with basic puzzles and limited enemy variety. [7][8][9]

I had some decent expectations for Fear the Spotlight, mostly because it’s published by Blumhouse, a name that usually carries some weight in the horror world. Unfortunately, what I got feels more like one of those generic indie horror games you can find for free or a few bucks on itch.io, the ones with the same “run from the monster” routine and puzzles so simple they make you question why they even exist. The …

In short: babby's first survival horror game. A basic story, basic gameplay, transparent inspirations (Silent Hill, Ringu, etc), BUT in the best most complimentary sort of way. Whether you've never played a game in this genre, or you've played many, it's enjoyable. It's a well-crafted, satisfying, 3 hour experience. Mostly, it's kind of... cute and cozy? Not particularly scary, not difficult (in regards to puzzles, …

I’m not afraid anymore! Fear the Spotlight is the perfect cozy survival horror game to be played during Spooktober. A relatively short indie title, maybe 4-6 hours depending on how much you explore, Fear the Spotlight dives into a story exploring the past and emotions. Developed by a husband and wife team at Cozy Game Pals, Fear the Spotlight originally released in 2023 with a limited budget and engaged fan base. …

OG Silent Hill, but u play as teenage girls Game length Single playthrough takes around five hours. Pros Two different campaigns. Old-school survival horror that doesn't rely on lame jump scares! Puzzles are well designed and intuitive without excessive complexity. Plot is well-written, terrifying and captivating. This game was made by just two people! PlayStation 1-era graphics. Available demo. Cons There is no …

A nice cosy retro horror game, if such a phrase makes sense!
Summarised from 34 of the 347 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 12, 2026. How summaries are made
Players who liked Fear the Spotlight talk about cozy and accessible for horror newcomers; those who didn't talk about too easy and not scary enough for some players. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Fear the Spotlight received "generally favorable reviews" based on 18 critic reviews according to review aggregator website Metacritic. 87% of critics recommended Fear the Spotlight on OpenCritic. TheGamer gave the game a positive review on its compelling storytelling and remarkable presentation but lacks the options that makes the challenge trivial for experienced players and stealth sections too obnoxious to handle. Bloody Disgusting also gave a great review as Blumhouse's perfect gateway to the horror game genre from their game division and a 4 out of 5 rating on its heartfelt story with clever tactile puzzles and spooky sequences that never gets too scary, but not as a bad thing.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Played through Fear the Spotlight this week. Excellent indie horror game where you're stuck in a high school and a creepy house after a seance gone bad. Very tense atmosphere amplified by amazing audio design (creaky doors, footsteps, etc) and charming retro visuals. Enjoyed it a lot!

Fear the Spotlight Real underappreciated gem from last year, it's a shorter stealth-focused Survival Horror game, with some great puzzles, there's two playable characters each with their own campaign you play back-to-back, and a sincerely heartfelt narrative. More people should play this!

neutral · AI labelView post →Fear the Spotlight is such a good game! The whole game, like the puzzles, sound design and such, many times I got goosebumps, jumpscared and shouted at the monster GO PLAY IT! LOVE IT! I'M SCARED BUT ALSO LOVE IT!
positive · AI labelView post →Fear the Spotlight is re-releasing TODAY on Steam and making its console debut! 🎮 It's also the first horror game published by BlumhouseGames! Congrats, team! 🎉 Don’t miss out on this creepy love letter to classic 90s horror!
neutral · AI labelView post →Pretty neat game. Not too complicated, but always engaging. The story is cool and the gameplay doesn't drag on. The puzzles are pretty cool and actually feel fresh. I think I've seen too many game recycling the same three puzzles at this point. Interactions with objects are also great. It feels kinetic and immersive. Nothing too complicated, but it kinda just feels very satisfying to flip a switch and press a button from time to time.

neutral · AI labelView post →I would situate my experience with Fear the Spotlight somewhere between Mouthwashing and Resident Evil. The game begins in a very classic way. Two friends, Vivian and Amy, sneak into their school library at night to use a Ouija board. Of course, they're just having fun, never imagining that a spirit will answer. And ô surprise! The spirits did answer. Now Vivian and Amy are separated and plunged into a distorted and nightmarish version of reality. What follows is an adventure split into two…

positive · AI labelView post →Its fine, the graphics are fantastically classical, story is passable, puzzles are baby simple. Its overall just so easy, you're never really frightened because the enemy variety is nonexistent and incredibly simple. I respect the dev for taking it off the shelf for a bit to work on it but people go on about the second chapter as if "They added a whole second game in!" When in reality they just added more story to an incredibly short story as the main campaign really only last for around 2.5…
