Felix The Reaper
Developer Kong Orange
Felix the Reaper is a 2019 puzzle game developed by Kong Orange and published by Daedalic Entertainment. Players praise the charming presentation, including animations, music, and narration by Sir Patrick Stewart. [1][2][3] Many find the puzzle mechanics repetitive and tedious, with too much object moving. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note the game is short and not worth the full price. [7][4][8]

I got this in a Humble Bundle so I payed essentially paid a buck for it. Happy with that. I just noticed the normal price of this is $25. Absolutely not. If you're curious, get it on sale. My biggest problem with this game is that it feels like a simple puzzle game with a cosmetic slapped on it. "Puzzle game where you move objects to create shadows to get Object to Objective" + "Grim reaper and setting up deaths" + …

I love puzzle games, and this one oozes with brilliance in its presentation: it has charming graphics, funny animations, catchy music and a wonderfully weird theme and characters. There are historical essays about Death in culture as well as developer commentary about the dancers that influenced how the main character moves. The game even has Sir Patrick Stewart providing voice-over! But there's barely any game to …

It felt great for the first hour. Felix is animated wonderfully, music is great, naration is done by Sir Patrick. But all of that starts to fade away the longer you play - Patrick is not used much after the start, music starts repeating, puzzles get nonsensical and there's no pause button, so if you do want to chase achievements, you better start over (the time just ticks away). But, it is enjoyable couple of hours …

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#483 out of 639)... it's time for Felix the Reaper. Yet one more quirky indie puzzle game in a long (apparently never ending) parade of quirky indie puzzle games, Felix the Reaper manages to make itself more memorable than most with unique mechanics, engaging gallows humor, and a unique, decidedly macabre art style. I don't know if I should recommend a game on the strength of its character's idle animations, but if I did then this would be it.

According to the review aggregator Metacritic, Felix the Reaper has received average or mixed reviews following its 2019 multi-platform release. The majority of critics praised the game's visual design, humor, character themes, and Patrick Stewart's performance as its narrator, but were divided with regards to its gameplay design. Adam Beck from Hardcore Gamer called Felix the Reaper one of the best puzzle games of 2019 and highlighted among other qualities it visual design, world building, music and Felix's appearance. Beck found the gameplay to be "highly challenging" but enjoyable and rewarding. The Italian edition IGN noted that while the style and gameplay of Felix the Reaper do not…

The core gameplay is pretty simple. As a reaper, you can only move in the shadows. There are four primary ways to manipulate shadows: 1) You can shift the direction of the shadows by 90 degrees. 2) You can pick up and move boxes, barrels, and similar items to cast shadows. 3) You can throw levers to move objects around in the environment. 4) You can stand on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Felix is a strange game. First impression was good – visuals are nice, narrator was setting up the premise. Menu looked promising - a detective board with clues to solve. But the more I played the more I felt that something was off - I wasn’t having fun. I was expecting a sokoban-style game at first. But then there was some life-death mechanic, and the trailer looked like some music was involved. Do I move in rhythm? Create melodies? Think of elaborate ways to kill people? Why am I killing…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I usually enjoy puzzle games but beating these puzzles doesn't give much satisfaction. Its a lot of picking up objects and working your way to another part of the level to put them down and doing this through out every level over and over again until you get it right. It doesn't feel fun just like a tedious chore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poor Felix the Reaper. It's a lot of fun to watch this Baymax looking little guy spin and twirl his was through the levels, but by the time I reached chapter three a pile of glaring issues had really soured this puzzle game in a big way. The first problem I ran into is that it's a real pain to direct Felix around. I started with a gamepad (huge mistake) but even with a mouse it's pretty awkward to handle. Moving around on tiles is fine, but any time you need to grab an object, move an object…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Felix the Reaper is a puzzle game that has great dedication to aesthetic and personality, but that ends up also being its greatest weakness. Pros: -Neat level design, I enjoyed the mechanic and depth of turning the camera to manipulate shadows, as well as the added elements in later levels. -There is an active goal in each level that adds into a story, its not just puzzles for the sake of puzzles. -The bonus levels add more game for those who aren't satisfied with the main story. -Lots of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game. The character/level design, in game lore, and music are totally my thing. But I got so bored and frustrated on the very first level. It just feels like a lot of clicking the sun back and forth, and picking up and placing objects. The worst crime of a puzzle game has to be boring repetitive game mechanics. That only works for match 3 games. I was hoping for more strategy (like Final Fantasy Tactic, or Mario Vs Rabbids). There is a lot of love in the game from the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funny little puzzle game. The difficulty is a bit off, often the hardcore levels are easier than the normal ones. Also some are really hard while others are comparatively easy despite being at the end of the game. The only thing that bothers me is repetition. There are time challenges that simply end if the time runs out, so you have to repeat the first x steps over and over again just to try something out shortly before the time runs out again. Also there are disappearing tiles, so if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →all around nice game 3D puzzles being the main focus with a little story development. Felix is one hellova lovely memorable character with all that sway. But in the end it's just another puzzle game. i thought dancing/music was some sort of core gameplay element from the trailer. But it's not. Its really not that interesting to pick up some rock and place them somewhere else over and over again. i hate myself for not recommending this but the gameplay really needs to be a bit more variations.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is "PRESENTING FELIX THE REAPER" written in the fanciest calligraphy quill your Duchess could afford, followed by "a game" hastily written down. It feels like they gave 90% of the budget went to the graphic designers and animators, and if they'd given just a little more to the rest of the team this would be a very positive rating. Look at the positive reviews, and you'll see most are reviewing entirely on the presentation while admitting the gameplay has many problems. Or they got bored…

It has a unique art style and a funky concept. The game is drastically harder than I expected so I'm not acting as an achievement hunter for this one. ---{Graphics}--- ☐ You forget what reality is ☐ Beautiful ☑ Good ☐ Decent ☐ Bad ☐ Don‘t look too long at it ☐ Paint.exe ---{Gameplay}--- ☐ Very good ☑ Good ☐ It‘s just gameplay ☐ Mehh ☐ Starring at walls is better ☐…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Patrick Stewart narrates ... but wow is it ever wasted on this game. The game is boring. I'm not sure how it manages such a good Steam rating but I think the achievements show the truth more clearly than anything I could say: 70% of players finish the tutorial 33% of players finish the first chapter (of 5) 12% of players finish the second chapter If 6 friends play the all of the tutorial, 3 will make it to the end of the first chapter and only 1 will stick it out to the end of the second...…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Puzzle game with with stylistic art, from visual to auditory. There might be something good here. I couldn't find it, but this is not exactly my type of game. I was already frustrated at the tedious gameplay when I found the level-breaking bug, and that was that. The art is... something. I'm sure someone thinks this is very cute. I was more or less annoyed with the "gross cute" visuals. Felix's cute little dancing was cool, but it basically had nothing to do with the game. The music, which…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here is my review for Felix the Reaper: The game stars a grim reaper going on duty to murder folks as part of his day (as reaping is a profession in this world). The game is a puzzler with two mechanics. First you move the shadows horizontally or vertically; as, reapers fear the sun. So you are doing rounds of the floor is lava. Secondly, you pick up and move objects in order to cast shadows to allow you to move further. Each world has about five stages, which leads to the final murder. These…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rating: 2/10 Completion difficulty:2/10 This puzzle game looks cute, but that's about it. The plot is pretty much nonexistent until you get to the very end of the game which is just sequel baiting. The gameplay is extremely mediocre, and needing to do every puzzle under a certain length of time for full completion is just baffling. I'd advise you follow a guide on your second monitor / phone which gives it this low difficulty rating (time doesn't flow while you're tabbed out). After a while…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh. A puzzle game where you play a reaper, manipulating the environment to get your target to die while having to stay in the shadows and avoid the sun. It tries very hard to be cute, but I feel like the charm wore off after about an hour. Should also mention I left the game idle for about 2 hours, so my actual play time is much shorter. The Good: + Nice animations + Cool character design + Pretty creative idea The Bad: - The puzzles get repetitive fast - The goal is a little confusing at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the hands of more competent developers, this could have been a neat little puzzle game. It's clear they put a lot of work into this. Unfortunately, they put in all the wrong work in all the wrong places, resulting in a baffling, mediocre, and bafflingly mediocre game that has no idea what it wants to be. * Poor UI all around * Awkard control scheme and clunky movement. Why does the character move so damn slow? Why can't I just control him directly like any other sokoban-adjacent puzzler?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a fan of puzzle games, but the visuals and music kept me playing and trying to figure out the puzzles on my own. Its nice that the game also lets you get hints on what to do next in the levels so i didnt need walktrough help with this. Also love the character designs in general. I love that all the characters are round and chubby except for the second hunter brother in the first chapter. Absolutley briliant im glad i bought it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very enjoyable grid-based puzzler involving shadow mechanics as a means to dictate your possible routing for fulfilling your quest goals sparkled up with dark humor about death: this being you, the Grim Reaper in training. I bought the game for 10€, which given the content, is a fair deal. I wouldn't buy it for the full prize though due to lack of content as far as levels go, even if counting the hardcore levels.

neutral · AI labelView post →Cute premise, nice visuals, great voice acting...but a soulless and hollow game that just isn't enjoyable. For me, it's a pass. It is, however, often on sale for under $1, so it's a minimal investment-risk to try if you're curious.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Annoying puzzles. Very long-winded, yet incapable of saving progress upon interruptions. The game doesn't respect players' time. Additionally, the controls are weak and irritating. Objects keep being put at the wrong place. Aiming is rather difficult indeed. Rotation is available, as well as a degree of zoom, but no scrolling, no way to look further. As a result, it's hard to get a full picture of the task at hand, and it's also hard to spot certain objects that happen to be paramount. I keep…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you check the global achievement stats, 70% finished the tutorial. the game is only around 4 hours long, yet just 3.4% have finished the game. almost everybody fell off after the first 30 minutes. so you probably won't like this game. it's okay. definitely not a waste of time, but i wouldn't recommend buying it. it's nice to look at and listen to. puzzles are ok but gimmick wore out quickly. last level was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ doozy and i have no desire to try the bonus "hardcore" levels.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Felix The Reaper is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game has slightly higher production values than your average mobile app, but then so does my cat. It's got voice acting by Sir Patrick Stewart, which is a tremendous waste of his considerable talent, but then, Patrick Stewart did Oblivion too, so I guess that makes up for this garbage. And garbage it is. It seems like they spent 90% of their…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have good character design, good animations and good music (mostly) but the gameplay its really repetitive. After some levels you keep doing the same thing again and again. If you really love the puzzle genre, give it a chance otherwise is a no.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Felix the Reaper is a logic puzzle game based around manipulating shadows to move around the environment, setting up complex fatal scenarios for those fated to die. I feel bad for giving this a negative review, since there was clearly a lot of love put into the game's aesthetics, but I really can't recommend that other people play this game. The gameplay can be frustrating at times, and even some of the good points are a mixed bag. PROS >VERY good dancing animations when it comes to Felix…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat concept and style, but this game is not for me. Felix is too slow, the music is pretty repetitive, and the puzzles can have really obscure solutions. And on that last point, the game can also get very hand-holdy, but when it's not doing that, you're entirely left without direction. Was overall quite frustrating for me to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a very fun and challenging puzzle game wherein you'll need a lot of spatial awareness, or maybe a lot of trial and errors to fully complete a level. The controls take some time getting used to. They're actually quite simple, but I tend to forget that I shouldn't turn the sun just yet, or else Felix will be caught out in the light, making me restart levels a few more times than I should. And speaking of Felix, his idle animations alone will entertain you. The music's also quite catchy and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An odd little puzzle game that just didn't click with me. It's janky, all style and no substance, and has a frustrating interface. The puzzles are mostly about moving objects around to cast shadows, and then positioning those shadows to let you walk around. My biggest gripe was with the art, nothing is clear or easy to read. The levels are full of squares that look like they should be valid spaces to move into but because there is a little crack or a pebble on it you can't, which sucks if you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played 3 chapters before calling it good enough. Most reviews and most of the marketing surrounds the 'dancing' and music which is disappointing because the novelty of those items wears off quick. This leaves you with just the game play... which there isn't much off. There's only three mechanics: carry items around, change the sun from left to right, don't walk in sun. There is only so much you can do with those and maybe some people will appreciate how far the developers took them but like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After the first hour: This is a puzzle game where the player has to create situations that cause target's deaths at least that’s the stated purpose. In reality much of Felix the reaper is about moving certain objects to goal locations, and in that way, it’s a solid puzzle game. The story is that Felix the Reaper is in love with Betty, a Maiden of Life, I don’t know if puzzle games need stories. But something is endearing with the story of Felix the Reaper. However, I do have to call out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i have won this in a raffle. i like the music and the overall design. not a puzzles game fan tho. but actually i give the downvote because its made with unity engine, dont buy into unity engine kids. such a waste. there is not any physics and this sort of graphics shouldnt turn my graphicscard into beast mode ffs its just 2.5 dimensional. i also think the devs making the money on console games and trash away the steam keys just because its so easily to port.

Grid puzzler; pick up “boxes” and drop them wherever, either to cast shadows or activate switches. But step into the sun and die. Unfortunately this game is a triumph of style over substance. The task is pretty much the same over and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Felix the Reaper" is a puzzle game that is second to none. The puzzles start out easy, but quickly become more complex as new elements are added. I have to admit that I usually don't write a review until I've reached the end of the game, but with Felix it might take a little more time because your head gets boiling quickly. Dividing it into smaller levels was probably a wise decision, so you can take a break sooner than if you had to play everything in one go. The setting, however, is not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game a great polish (beautiful art) but... the problem is that puzzles are quite hard and at the same time not very appealing. You have to make efforts to progress in the game, but i saw no point in making those efforts... it actually feels like a loss of time, thinking about all the great games out there that are just waiting to be played. Some people may like it though, but it didn't work for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off, I really wanted to love this game. The artwork is great, and the whole thing is pretty much peak British humor. The core design of the puzzles is unique but gets repetitive quickly. However what really tips the scales is the music, or rather the stunning lack of it-- Look at Felix go, he's breaking it down to... uh... some very chill atmospheric tracks. Pick it up on sale and enjoy it for a bit, perhaps. I feel like I played it for just long…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is all aesthetics, no substance. for the first 5 minutes, i was pumped to play this game. a goofy reaper that can't stop dancing with tim burton-esque characters? sign me up! however, my negative review is for the following reasons: - for a game about a dancing reaper, the music SUCKS! - everything about this game feels sluggish- loading screens, movement, cutscenes - control are extremely picky and not fun to use - time is one of the major categories for ratings/achievements, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It makes sense that only 10% of players have finished chapter two... The only draw that this game possibly has is the intentionally unpleasant art style and content. The puzzles are flat out bad: the main mechanic of manipulating shadows is frustrating because the shadows don't clearly line up with the grid spaces, which visually obscures what you need to actually do. This feels like an arbitrary difficulty increase just to make puzzles fit as they say "a challenging single-player puzzle game"…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love Felix the Reaper. The way Felix dances around the map as you some the puzzles, is cute & a lot of fun to watch. Like all puzzle games, its starts off easy and gets harder as you go though the levels. And of course after you beat the game, you then can play the more difficult levels, which are just as fun but more challenging. When it comes to the music, its catchy and quite enjoyable. The story is what really got me into playing the game & its really a good story.

I like it, it's a competent puzzle game that keeps you itching with the feeling that "I could do that better". It has good replay value, extra stages unlock when you get higher grades on each stage and there is a challenge mode on top of that. It was just too complex at times (especially the hardcore puzzles). Probably wouldn't recommend this especially not for the absurd amount of $25. Go spend your money on any other puzzle game and you could probably have more fun. Also have to agree with others that the music is repetitive and rather annoying. Had to turn it off and turn Spotify on instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Felix the Reaper delivers what it promises: wacky undeath hijinks, Meet-Cutes, and an adorable, stellar dancer of a Reaper. I enjoyed this game a lot, and I think it's good, but honestly it's not really for me. I loved the story, and unfortunately it's very short. The art and dance moves are fantastic - Felix grooving as he goes about his work is my favorite part. The mechanical aspect are, if not punishing, then very difficult for people with my specific combination of "spatial issues" and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you take away the art and wacky characters all you will be left with is a really simple puzzle game. Unfortunately it does not get any better, later levels are more of the same just longer. The controls are also not thought through. Optional time-limited levels are not puzzle but a struggle with the awkward camera and controls.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In less than 30 min you fell that there is something fishy with this one. Mainly the lack of logical purpose of what we are doing. You will be ask to do something but you don't know why, only a cut scene will explain. And the controls are not very good, the puzzle solving is so tedious with this light and shadow thing. Less than 30% have finished the first chapter... But at least one person is having fun on this one... Felix
