What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 107 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (120 of 138 positive).
Some reviewers note the game is shorter than the original and has a fixed camera that can be frustrating. [1][2][3] A few players express disappointment, feeling it should have been DLC rather than a standalone title. [4][5][6]

Oh, how it hurts me to leave this negative review, but I have to warn players about what they're getting themselves into, especially if they come from the original Frogun like I did. The problems are twofold, and ruined the whole game for me. I was ready to check out by the end of the first world, but I decided to rush through the rest in case the game had something special to offer (it did not.) First problem: the …

Frogun is a fantastic game with smooth, intuitive gameplay and smart level design. If you're a fan of classic level-based platformers from the PS1 or N64 era, this is exactly the game you want. This is a standalone expansion to the first game, but you absolutely don't need to have played the first to understand the second game. (But you should play it!) Encore adds local co-op to the game, alongside an entire game's …

After playing through both Frogun games this one is by far the better one. Mechanics are way more refined and considerably less clunky than the first whilst introducing new mechanics that add a lot to the game and enhance it so much. The levels felt really fun and interesting to play in and while it is smaller than the first game "Quality over quantity" really shines through. I recommend both games, but this one …

It's a good game, but if you haven't played the first one, you should get it instead of this one. As a sequel, it is ridiculously shorter and easier. The bosses here doesn't feel creative or challenging at all, and this game is very buggy. I think I got softlocked on the loading screen at least 20 times during my playthrough, but that's my fault since I was aiming for 100%; which I reached in slightly less than 6 …

I'm making my review positive out of respect for the developer, but to be honest, if Steam had an in-between "meh" option, I'd probably be selecting that, because I have very conflicted feelings. While there's really nothing wrong with this game, and it's fairly solid as a standalone product, I can't help but feel like it's a step down from the first Frogun in a lot of ways to me, and frankly should have been a DLC …

This game does a great job of taking everything that made the original Frogun good while cutting a lot of its issues, while also making Renata even more fun to control! positive · AI labelView post →Watching the Frogun Encore run at AGDQ. I still need to finish the first game, but wow the movement in the run is slick.
neutral · AI labelView post →Some people say encores are probably out of fashion, that bands sometimes need to get a hint and just get off the stage whenever there's not much to add or the public is probably exhausted. This is basically the case for this game. Not too long after the first one this sequel was announced with a trailer showing a few differences: multiplayer, a fixed camera angle most of the time, different level terrains, a new soundtrack but most of all a new double jump that could be well implemented…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →( full review with screenshots: https://www.gaming-parrot.com/post/frogun-encore-review-an-unwelcome-encore ) You might have expected a sequel with a name like Encore to be just a small DLC that adds a few levels without really changing anything. Frogun Encore is not that. Although it is shorter than the original game, it costs only a little less and introduces significant changes to how the game plays. Rather than being like the band coming back out to play one last classic song, this is the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I`m not one to leave reviews, much less negative (my first one?) but this one has pissed me off too much haha I enjoyed the first game quite a lot, just bought both one week ago and I have jumped straight to this after finishing the first one. Two problems, that together become worse: 1. The camera isn't free anymore. in the first one measuring distance / heights could be difficult already, but you could move the camera to understand what you were trying to jump to. The now fixed / on rails…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First Frogun is one of the best platformers I've ever played. I completed the game at 100%, got all the achievements, and started waiting for the sequel. I was so hyped because I had so much fun with the first game. I started playing Frogun Encore and one hour later I felt nothing but disappointment. Let me tell you about the things that ruined my enjoyment. First of all, for a sequel, it is too short. It feels like a DLC pack. Secondly, the boss fights. The bosses have health bars like in an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Want a fun platformer game with Low-Poly graphics, tight controls, and Co-Op? Here it is! Frogun Encore is a perfect blend of inspirations from games past and new ideas. A super fun light-hearted adventure that you can pick up and put down at your hearts content! If you loved the original you'll love this sequel! Don't forget the cool hats too! Support Indies!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This Encore felt like it was called by the backstage rather than the audience As someone that really enjoyed the first game, I was really disappointed with this follow-up. Although this is just more of Frogun 1 if you loved that as well, it also felt like a massive downgrade by comparison. The biggest problem I had was the terrible camera. In Frogun 1, the camera could be controlled freely with the right stick allowing you to give yourself the perspective that works best for you so depth…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel obligated to give this game a negative review despite enjoying it enough, due the severe downgrade I find this compared to Frogun 1. (Admittedly, I know Frogun Encore is an 'Expansion' and not a full blown sequel. However, I write this to dissuade the Devs from going down this path in the future). I love Frogun 1. It's one of the best Indie games I've played in years. I love its simple yet tight controls, I love it's simple yet charming enemy/level/character designs, I love the Clunky…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starts off as a fun little platformer, but quickly becomes an unpolished mess. I struggled through for 100% in 7.2 hours so price wise it isn't bad, but a bunch of that time is padding. Each level has a ton of coins to collect, must be beaten deathless, has 4 collectables, and has 2 levels of speedruns with the early levels being some of the harder ones to get the second level. This means that you must beat each level twice minimum, assuming you get the speedrun first try and don't miss…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just played the first few stages of Frogun Encore while on a lunch break and man does it take what worked in the first game and boost it ten-fold! Sad I have to work this afternoon otherwise I'd probably blitz through all of Encore because it's so much fun, XD

positive · AI labelView post →I did not play the first Frogun game but I picked this up on a whim because it was new and seemed fun. I was pleasantly surprised by it and loved it so much that I beat it in one sitting. Huge sleeper hit of 2024. Incredibly fun, quirky, cute, and simple video game with very fun movement that feels like it would've spawned on the PS1. The cute low-poly graphics is icing on the cake. Hope to see more from this developer in the future :)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was gifted to me because I loved the first game so much. I still love it to death. Adds new ways to jump and move that make this so worth playing. Especially if you wanna go for the best times. These devs know how to put the love in.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot shorter than the original Frogun, but if you're playing it for the time trials -- which make these two games more than a cakewalk -- you'll get at least nine or ten hours out of it instead of five. The levels themselves are shorter than in the first game, but the limits on getting the diamond studs for time are more than correspondingly lower; so instead of just running through as efficiently as you can, you will have to find a way to flat-out break the level using the new tongue fling,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a big fan of the of the first Frogun game, Frogun Encore is soooooo darn good, in some ways, better than the first game. The levels are designed super well with the emphasis on speed and collecting throughout it. Only blemish is the bosses being a bit of a waiting game to hit them which unintentionally makes the time trial challenges harder. That's really my only complaint though, aside from that, 10/10 love Encore a ton.

positive · AI labelView post →4/10 + hats + double jump - janky hitboxs. - cant use 2nd double jump in time if you walk off the edge of the level to get back up - very few checkpoints, not that big of a deal cause the levels are really short - very few sound effects - plays like a 2d platformer turned 3 with lots of jumps to single block spaces + amount of times i died to enemy's or bosses 0.000 or even spikes - amount of times i miss judged a jump and fell off the map, touched water once, or missed frog lick by 3 degrees…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A silly lil goofy game where you use a gun (which is actually a frog) to platform your way around level at breakneck speeds. 80% of the time you will not hit what you are aiming for and be yoinked in a random direction. The other 20% of the time you will be so shocked you hit your target you will mess up the follow up. Which makes it very fun for when you actually do master the movement.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game, with the same charm as the first. It's a little short with about half the levels Frogun has. I don't like the fixed camera as much as free cam, but I love the movement tech, and the ability to zoom through the levels at a pace impossible in the first. Overall I'm glad I bought it. Hopefully a proper sequel will be released in the future primarily focusing on Jake, I loved his tech from the few levels you play as him from the first game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Haven't played too much yet, but it's just as cozy and fun as the first game so far. It's perfect to play in short bursts, too and the music is real chill.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After having a good time playing the original Frogun two years ago, I was thrilled to learn more was on the way in the shape of Frogun Encore. Now, let's make things clear: Encore is definitely a standalone/big DLC, not a proper sequel (I have 81% completion in 5h). Once you have that in mind, you can enjoy another good time with this game, with some new speedrunning moves that are very satisfying to use! On the topic of changes, I am not a great fan of the fixed camera angle which sometimes…

neutral · AI labelView post →I want to like this game. I loved the first frogun. But something about this game is fundamentally broken. It feels like a fan mod. With some stages that feel legitimately frustrating to overcome basic obstacles and new mechanics that seem to bug out right when you are trying to jump across moving platforms, this is just disappointing. Whiffing platforming due to controls and mechanics bugging out on you is WAY too common. You can't control the camera, and you will WANT to. You will most…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very lovely sequel adding some well thought mechanics and improving on the first game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was a massive fan of the original Frogun. It was simple but satisfying, and it just worked. I nearly 100%'d it (outside of grinding coins for all the artworks). Encore's newly added abilities and level mechanics really bring up the speed of the game. It feels even more snappy and fast-paced then before. The levels are all still well-designed and fun to blast through. Although... I do have a major criticism of Encore, which is the camera. It's always at a fixed angle that you cannot control.…
