What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 67 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (533 of 548 positive).
Players praise the game's charming depiction of Brazilian gaúcho culture and folklore. [1][2][3] Many find the gameplay relaxing and refreshing, with a focus on harmony over profit. [4][5][6] Some reviewers report bugs and grindy mission design that detract from the experience. [7][8][9]

Great game! Fun, funny and it explores a less known side of Brazilian culture. Love it!

This is a beautiful and sweet cozy game. My family is from the Brazilian state the game captures. I've learned so much about gaúcho culture and have been able to practice my Portuguese. Highly recommend if you loved games like Stardew and Luma Island. Also, who doesn't love riding around on a horse with your dog companion?

First of all, I was born and raised in Rio Grande do Sul, so the connection hit instantly. The Chimarrão, the pampas, the tone of the characters, the folklore.. it all felt familiar in a way that’s hard to explain if you didn’t grow up around it. And right away, that gave the game a lot of goodwill with me. At first glance, it looks like it might be another cozy farming sim. Another Stardew-like. But that comparison …

LOUCO DE ESPECIAL TCHÊ!!! Happy to finally see Southern Brazilian, Argentine, Uruguayan, and Paraguayan culture represented, but not only that. The game looks and sounds absolutely gorgeous. Never thought I'd be playing a game where you can drink mate. Proud to have supported the Brazilian developers behind this!

93% of the 67 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Gaucho and the Grassland. The complaint that keeps coming up: some bugs, like getting stuck on objects. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

It offers a relaxed pace, focusing on restoring harmony to the land rather than traditional economics. You'll explore diverse biomes, interact with mythical beings, and receive guidance from your "ghost dad" Emphasizing exploration and adventure over the farming elements, Gaucho and the Grassland…

neutral · AI labelView post →I think this is one of the best brazilian games ever made, its very creative and the gameplay is amazing. it has farming elements mixed with survival crafting and rpg as well. the story is really nice and focused on brazilian folklore and the campaign although a bit repetitive is based on exploring different regions helping its inhabitants with various side quests, some fetch quests and others involve learning to craft specific items and helping with farm tasks like guiding sheep and herding…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i am in LOVE with this game so far, the tutorial doesn't feel forced which is refreshing, its such a nice change from your typical 'fetch' quest or ''press WASD'' type of tutorial. i love the art style of the game, gives it a sort of figurine type of feel, which makes it relaxing. i do wish we had more options for horses and dogs at the start as there is only one 'breed' type for horses, would like to see more variants of shapes etc to make each feel more unique, the dogs also come in what i…

The game has a day and night cycle, but unlike many others in the genre, there is no energy system, so you can keep playing without needing to stop to rest. The art style is cute. I really liked the trading system, as it was a refreshing change from the usual gold-based setup. It was nice to see another culture represented. That said, it is worth knowing…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is very cute, with cuddly characters, especially the animals. Depicts the traditional Gaucho culture in a very lighthearted and warm way. I especially like how the game doesn’t really take time to explain things, like a game that’s too worried about the foreign market/audience would. It simply is what it is, and it’s better for it. Special shoutout to the soundtrack, which is extremely pleasant.

This is about harmony and connection, not profit. With 40 hours of gameplay behind me, I can safely say that this is a very enjoyable casual farming experience, but how much you engage with the game really does affect your experience. You're not forced to farm in this adventure game, but it is a feature and a solid part of what you can do. You could choose to just do…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a true gaúcho, I really enjoyed the game. Sometimes the character gets stuck on an object, but nothing that takes away from the gaming experience. The division of the continents and how they connect, as well as the division of the two worlds, was very well thought out and creative. Anyway, I recommend this fantastic game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EN: I liked the demo and got into the game because of the culture. Sadly the mission design is really bad. It feels like they only waste my time, moving around and keeping me from either having a farm or exploring something interesting. Maybe I'll come back to this game, get to some more interesting interactions and change my review. For now, I wouldn't buy it under 50% discount. Sad. PT-BR: Eu gostei da demo e me interessei pelo jogo por causa da cultura. Infelizmente, o design das missões é…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL DR: It's a 5/10 game and lacks content. Buy this game under two conditions: One: It's on sale. Two: You enjoy cozy games. Now a text for people explaining some concepts of the game: The game sells itself as an adventure game. The adventure is lackluster since most of the puzzles the main character faces are simple labyrinths. The farming sim aspect of the game is simply bad. You only need estate for two things: 1 - Breeding animals; 2 - Roasting a "Churrasco". You can only raise animals,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've waited for this game for quite a while even with the delays over the last couple of months. I was expecting a cozy ranching sim that paid homage to Latin American culture. While it does a good job with its Latin inspiration and appreciation for its people, traditions and history, I'm not sure I can recommend the game to everyone. It's definitely a 'cozy' game, but I find it a bit lacking in QoL and gameplay mechanics. You have to navigate multiple dialogue branches to trade/exchange…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An enjoyable adventure game that is a little rough around the edges. Unlocking all the achievements is very grindy. It has no missable achievements as far as I can tell. Approximate time to 100%: My guess would be around 15 hours or so Estimated achievement difficulty: 2/10 Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1 Is there a good guide available: Not yet Multiplayer achievements: No Missable achievements: I don't think so, but not 100% sure Grinding Achievements: Yes, especially after the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked it! It seems like the development team really put a lot of love into it. I enjoyed the cultural influences and aesthetic, and the music. The gameplay was fun and cozy, and the resolution to the storyline made me smile. I also enjoyed seeing a main character who is an older gentleman, someone who's "just a guy," but who works very hard to help people. I liked that the dog also had a mustache like him, lol. The little nods to other games like Zelda and Megaman were a cute touch…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Gaucho and the Grassland" is an absolutely captivating game that won me over instantly. If you enjoy farm management and life-simulation games with a distinct cultural twist, this title is a must-play. The setting in the South American Pampas (grassland) is incredibly immersive and a breath of fresh air. Moving away from the typical American or Japanese farm settings of other genre games, "Gaucho" offers a beautiful visual aesthetic, a relaxing soundtrack, and a unique atmosphere that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun adventure and ranching sim - with influence from Brazilian culture and folklore - where your main focus is helping the townsfolk so you can cleanse the land and restore harmony. You'll spend a lot of time on your trusty steed as you travel around the different biomes to help people and gather resources, and you'll call upon your faithful dog quite frequently to dig up buried items. There isn't a main currency like other farm sim games; instead you use the resources you gather to buy…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reading the first description, I thought at first this would be a copy of Wild Indigo Ranch but it's not. It's even more chill and way less grindy. It does not have as much content though but still, I enjoyed it from the first till the last minute. I started playing after a couple of patches had been released and I only encountered a handful of non game-breaking bugs of which most are probably solved in the latest patch just released before this review. The music sometimes was a bit too much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful and relaxing game. As a Brazillian gaucho myself, i feel to touched and revived by all the artistic and cultural details explored in the game. The sound, the characters, the stories and dialogues. i had a stressful day but after playing i feel much better.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing **Gaucho and the Grassland** on Steam for a review. Really nice game inspired by Zelda but with it's own Latin American fantasy twist. Today I got **Donkey Kong Bananza** delivered, so *it's on like Donkey Kong* for the rest of the weekend. Like you, I only played a little bit. You can definitely find the "Mario Odyssey" dna in it, but it's different enough. I had so much fun just destroying stuff, I didn't advance the story at all. So far seems pretty fun!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gaucho and the Grassland is a charming life simulation and exploration game that takes inspiration from the traditions, landscapes, and folklore of South America, offering a refreshing alternative to the familiar farming simulator formula. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love it! Gaucho doesn't feel like a grind but is a sweet, cute, cozy game from start to finish. I am definitely going to be going for all the achievements on this one!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cute and cozy! Loved the art/music and character customization (including horse & dog). Took me ~6 hours to complete the main story and ~15 hours to get all the achievements. Was perfect for relaxing after a long day - running around gathering resources and doing side quests. My only complaint would be sometimes it was difficult/annoying to figure out who to talk or trade with next to advance certain quests. I ended up just talking to all the of NPCs one by one to figure out what to do…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm about 60% of the way through this game and it is so cute. I've encountered a few bugs, but nothing that has made the game unplayable and may be steam deck related (stop being able to interact with objects/NPCs, but issue is solved when I restart the game). That being said, this game plays really well on a steam deck on default controller settings. Cute animals, fun and relaxing gameplay, good mixture of quests with a good storyline - there is a bit for everyone. If you enjoy cozy ranching…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun, easy to play farming sim. Ultra cute chickens! Careful with those grapevines.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hail Brasil and all that, but I just don't like the game. It feels boring to play. I think its because there is a lack of adversity and real obstacles. There is no energy mechanic. There are no health points. No enemies. No need to sleep. The game is more like a chores and puzzles game than the competition. Cozy games need an edge. Also, having "LIVE like a LATIN COWBOY as you EXPLORE, HELP others, and bring HARMONY between HUMANS and MYSTICAL BEINGS in a RELAXING COZY ADVENTURE." in the…

Love it, so cozy as well!!!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of 01 Aug 2025 (Patch 06) my major issues have been fixed. I am happy to update this to a recommend. Quite liked it. Nice atmospheric style and audio giving a South American flair to the game. This isn't a farming game but more about harvesting resources that already exist. In phase two there is more emphasis on trading to obtain the right resources. Also after phase one the resource requirements increase and get a bit more grindy.
