Ghost of a Tale is an action role-playing stealth game developed primarily by game designer and DreamWorks and Universal Pictures veteran Lionel "Seith" Gallat. It was funded by a successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign which ran from April to May 2013, raising €48,700. A game so boring I couldn't bring myself to even finish it... Which is a shame, because it looks lovely and I so desperately want to enjoy it but I just can't. I would say the first few hours are really good (until you get the full guard's armour ) but from that point onward the game just becomes a slow and painful walking simulator. Every quests just boil down to "Go fetch me X amount of that item" or "Go talk to …

If I could recommend one game before I die, or before the world ends...this would be that game. I cried so much, I laughed, my breathe was taken away and somehow I even connected so much to a little mouse. This isn't just a gem in a haystack, it's a shame it's the only game of it's kind. It has the exploration and connection of a Dark Souls game, but none of the combat, just pure stealth and it's refreshing. For a …

While this adventure game (stealth genre mostly) has many endearing qualities, be WARNED that doing all the quests requires an extreme amount of running back and forth that was burning me out. And I say that as a completionist who often spends over 100 hours questing in classic RPG video games. nb: just a few fast travel options would have made it much more enjoyable. The game became painful to finish. My …

A beautiful game that evokes works such as Redwall and The Secret of Nimh. As someone who reads a lot and enjoys fantasy stories, this game captivated my heart.

Absolutely delightful stealth adventure. Janky and occasionally frustrating as it is, the art (omg the art!), writing, music, and lived-in feel and mystery of the fort and its environs are all top-tier.

Asked a while ago for any good fantasy mouse/rat-folk games and this is by far & away the best! Stealth/puzzle/adventure game store.steampowered.com/app/417290/G...

neutral · AI labelView post →They say “Shoot for the moon, because even if you miss, you’ll land amongst the stars.” I feel that statement most adequately sums up this game. Ghost of a Tale is a good game that could have been a GREAT game. For every strength bolstering its position there’s an equivalent downside yanking it back. It’s a stealth RPG that sees you play as Mousey Minstrel ‘Tilo’, who has been arrested, placed in a dreary dungeon and must now sneak out of the castle using everything from bottles to distract…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game made me laugh enough times to make the purchase worth it. Great characters, surprisingly deep story and incredible worldbuilding. Works great on Steam deck, btw.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is honestly the best game I've ever played. It's such an inmersive experience. I've never played a game that made me both laugh and cry. Everything about it is so good, especially the story. I'm only sad it's over. I played on the Steam Deck with no issues as at. Worked great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who spent all my time in Skyrim on just sneaking and stealing things, this game is great. It's not very complex to understand, yet still quite immersive. - Hehe sneak and run - Puzzles are intuitive and not frustrating - Quite beautiful graphics with great controls - Nice characters and world-building - Most important: Enjoy your time as a cute mousey!!!! Would definitely recommend. ------------------------------------------------ Edit: Review from when I finished the game One of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly I loved the concept of this game, and I was having a blast with it for a while. The gameplay isn't the most innovative thing (lots of stealth, some collectathon stuff, lots of quests...) - but it was still a fun game nonetheless and offered a solid story with good worldbuilding attached to it. The music and graphics are also very good and overall none of them deserve any complaints. Where my issues lie are the gameplay loop, and inherent instability this game has. The main quest…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Ghost of a Tale* is a genuinely charming game at first glance. The world has a unique atmosphere, and Tilo, the little mouse, is absolutely adorable. You can tell that a lot of care and passion went into the game's setting and characters. Unfortunately, the gameplay didn't keep me engaged for very long. A large portion of the game consists of searching, backtracking, and trying to figure out where to go next. As a result, the story progresses very slowly, at least in my experience. The map…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wish i could give this a thumbs up as the level design, characters, animation etc are all really great. The problem is the amount of backtracking is MINDBLOWING. I've never seen anything like it. Then on top of that the pixel hunting is ridiculous. It would be fine if there were multiple ways to solve a problem but having to track down 10 different outfits to finish the game is nuts. It didn't have to be this way. Squandered opportunity.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute, solid game. Well done. But it does NOT hold your hand, so there is some level of frustration and searching and Google. Quest markers and quest tracking in general could be better. But overall, nice. 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rarely feel the need or urge to review games but this time i do. Great game, very immersive, beautiful art and soundtrack. If you like stealth or adventure games this one is for you. Also despite the tag it runs perfect on steamdeck almost as if it was meant for it. Very few bugs but nothing gamebreaking. This game is the perfect example that a smaller contained map with lots to explore is far superior to open world content that feels soulless and copy pasted. You start off small and unlock…

neutral · AI labelView post →Pros: Good story, great characters, map felt super old school-- small but big somehow, stealth was fun for the first bit. Cons: Lots of back tracking, some VERY annoying where's Waldo quests, armor basically removes any stealth mechanics in the game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The touching adventure of a sneaky rodent Initially, I didn't enjoy the first minutes... The jail setting and the gameplay didn't get me hooked on it... But then I gave it a second chance. And once out of the jail area, the newfound liberty, the free-roam aspect and uncovering of the story got me really onboard. The more I delved into the lore and backstories, the more I really became invested in the tragic story of Tilo. Graphics might feel a bit old'ish but it does give it some charm. And…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What an absolute gem I stumbled upon during the medieval sale. Calling it a bargain for the $2 I paid would be an understatement, it practically felt like theft. Worth every penny and every hour. The gameplay is excellent, with fantastic dialogue and music that really bring the world to life. Although the map is relatively small, it feels expansive when experienced from the perspective of a mouse. Navigation through the keep can be a bit frustrating at times, given its maze-like design, but it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On paper idea sounds great: RPG action about mouse and other animals. IRL game's blunt and feels like a chore because from beginning you don't have much options and you need to do stealthy stuff which has no variety: hide in a pot or closet, wait, go further, hide again. I remember playing it way before on alphabetagamer or something like that, pre-2018, i guess. When UE4 went free era and tons of garbage games flooded the market. "Ghost of a tale" sounded promising. I bought it on Steam…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like the exploration and discovery of Dark Souls games, but with stealth instead of combat then you'll love this gem. Packed with secrets and discoveries the map and world are truly a joy to explore.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had this game on my wishlist for ages and was keen to finally try it, but unfortunately I couldn't get past the first level before I gave up. The controls and camera were so janky that I spent a significant amount of my time just remapping the controls and changing the video settings, but so many different actions are inexplicably bundled together that even that proved fairly fruitless. I suppose it is perhaps designed to work better with a controller but I use a mouse and keyboard. As far…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has been on my backlog for years and I'm so glad I finally got to it. It was a joy to play. It would most closely be associated with something like Deus Ex; it maintains a lot of immersive sim stealth elements, but with a much stronger emphasis on exploration and character writing. The writing is amazing; I burst out laughing a bunch of times and thought everything else was genuinely emotional. The gameplay was fun and immersive, oriented around assembling disguises and hunting down…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the most gorgeous, inspired game I've played in a long time. Even without the shallow character similarity to Redwall, this game makes sneaking and retrieving things very engaging and heart-pounding. Being a little mouse in a situation rife with large, angry rats who would sooner smash you into paste than bother eating you, you have to traverse many areas and find many objects and solve many puzzles to help you on your journey. The moment GoaT2 is announced, I'm pre-ordering the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Welcome to Ghost of a Tale, a game where you'll spend at least half you playtime running from point A to point B. Very slowly. Like, REALLY slowly. Feels-like-a-torture-method kind of slow. And you'll never be closing walkthroughs and guide cause otherwise it's impossible to find anything in here. And then cherry on top - cutscenes not triggering! So go to files and reset your settings! Cause for some reason it fixes it! What the hell!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play game jam games a lot 😄 My favorites are visual novel ones since the stories are pretty fresh usually! This year I also want to play the many games I’ve bought but haven’t played yet.. gonna start with Ghost of a Tale this month!
neutral · AI labelView post →Loved this game, the stealth mechanics were fun, and the keep was exciting to explore. I felt very immersed into the tale of this little mouse, so each discovery brought it's own charm to the story. I wish it was longer, so I could find out what happens next to Tilo!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably one of the greatest examples of a game that one could love if they think that a good enough story can make up for gameplay problems but one will probably hate if they think that gameplay is more important when it comes to video games. Me? I'm in the latter category. I realized at about the halfway point "Hey wait a minute, this is a walking sim metroidvania." - and also a visual novel but more on that later. This isn't MGS or Dishonored; stealth is annoying and gets in the way of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is honestly one of my favorite stories. I absolutely love this game – the atmosphere, the emotions, the sounds – everything is so calming yet exciting at the same time. It just pulls you in. A solid 10/10 from me!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Steam sale has reunited me with my love from the PS4 days, Ghost of a Tale 🐀💖 Anyone who loves an immersive stealth game that's dark and whimsical, I can't recommend it enough! Such a one-of-a-kind 👌
positive · AI labelView post →Ghost of a Tale, yea the story is ghostly not there. Ghost of a Tale is a charming stealth game that I found to be fun at first. As I got deeper into the game the map just got very confusing to me and I ended up finding myself constantly running in circles. It felt like a crazy maze. The game's story seemed to start out great, but the confusing map burnt me out. Instead of looking for help navigating the world, I simply gave up because it became too much. The game's world is beautifully…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some parts of the game are so good, other parts are so bad... Notably, all the walking around (yes, walking, you have barely enough stamina to run long enough even when you reach end game level and equipment). World design is cool and have quite a lot of shortcuts and verticality, I enjoyed exploring it, but after I explored all of it, walking through it became a chore. As for gameplay, this is mostly a casual stealth game. Even when enemies notice you, they can't do much unless you corner…

neutral · AI labelView post →Ghost of a Tale is a very interesting, clever, endearing and cute stealth game! Sneaking quietly as a mouse in the fortress of the rats. Recommeded! EDIT: Just finished the game with 100% all achievements and sidequests and I can easily recommend this great adventure! It's a clever combination of lighthearted animal characters, serious themes, a solid story and an overall feeling of comfyness and wholesomeness. The nature environments deserve to be mentioned. I found them very pleasing, both…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While limited in scope and gameplay mechanics, there's a lot of love put in the story, in the characters, in the visual language and atmosphere! Higly recomended to those that are not put off by rough stealth games and old school adventure games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a hidden gem. I found this by coincidence and didn't know what I was getting into, but it quickly made its way onto my favourites list. The art is incredible - from graphics, worldbuilding, over character design to soundtrack! I didn't expect there to be so much lore but there is a backstory to the places and the NPCs, which gives this game so much life and I will definitely be returning for all the optional side quests. The focus is on hide and seek, so there is little combat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ghost of a Tale, developed and published by SeithCG, is a rare gem in the indie adventure scene—an intricate blend of stealth, exploration, and storytelling that places players in the tiny but determined paws of Tilo, a minstrel mouse caught in a world ruled by rats and filled with decay, mystery, and lingering echoes of war. Released after several years of development led by former DreamWorks and Universal animator Lionel “Seith” Gallat, the game feels like a passion project brought to life…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ghost of a tale is a wonderful indie RPG that juxtaposes charming anthropomorphic characters with a dark melancholic narrative. You play as a small mouse in a dangerous world, relying on stealth and your wits to escape captivity and reunite with your beloved wife whose fate lies in peril. The game has an immersive narrative that draws you in with deep characters, a sense of purpose, and witty humour to ease the tension. The graphics are a bit rough but still looks great and the art design is…

neutral · AI labelView post →Ghost of a Tale While it wasn't quite the game I was expecting, and the jankiness was at a supreme level, the characters and worldbuilding were incredible. Once I understood the mechanics better, I appreciated its stealth gameplay a lot more. I drew vore art of this game once
neutral · AI labelView post →Gameplay is fun, artwork is awesome. I wish I could control the speed/sensitivity of the mouse and movement/panning. Couldn't find that control, might have missed it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →** (of 5). This was a really promising game with a beautifully carved character and cute animation. I was eager to explore the world and uncover its story. It all started quite well. Breaking out of prison and exploring the next areas was interesting, but already then I started to feel annoyed by the games tasks. In order to get further, there was always something missing you had to search for in order to continue. This combined with the badly made map concept is a real pain. You don't know…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a charming little game, I had an amazing time with it. The world is small enough to know every nook and cranny, the story and especially the world building are incredible! If you've liked the Redwall book series about rodent adventures, this one will be for you. While the game has some minor flaws like tedious backtracking and sometimes confusing maps, the rest of it really stands out for an indie project made by basically 3 people. If you're looking for a cozy charming adventure without…

positive · AI labelView post →A very charming adventure game which takes some of the best elements of stories like Podkin and Redwall, gameplay reminiscent of older adventure games, all set in a very well curated world. Clearly an indie game, played on Steamdeck and while it went well the game was un-optimized and utterly drained my battery, and it has that kind of awkward pacing that open world games can have where the early game is a bit overwhelming & the endgame is suddenly fairly linear. But, that pacing is…
