What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 180 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (4,381 of 5,177 positive).
Players praise GRIP as a worthy successor to Rollcage and F-Zero GX. [1][2][3] Many enjoy the high-speed, gravity-defying racing and chaotic combat. [4][5][6] Some reviewers criticize the AI rubber-banding and steep learning curve. [7][8][9]

A brilliant game, if not for the AI. Since the multiplayer is has been completely dead for a few years, the AI is the only opponent there is left in this game. What's wrong with it ? It really sucks at the game, it teams up against you, and boy does it not like to lose. Other cars will keep one weapon only for you when you overtake them, despite being surrounded by other AI cars. They all have better top speed and …

Pure brain-off chaos in the best way possible. You drive stupidly fast cars on walls, ceilings or wherever gravity gave up. While rockets and explosions fly everywhere. It’s loud, it’s dumb, it’s over the top, and it works. On top of that, it’s a great continuation of Rollcage, staying true to the old-school anti-gravity madness. 10/10, zero thoughts, only speed

Blasting heavy-metal tunes while driving on walls and upside-down at insane speeds feels incredible. It has a steep learning curve and the rubber-banding can be a bit brutal at times, but when everything works, it's an absolute blast.

Absolute fun. It's a true shame this game isn't more popular. It is an absolute blast to play and is one of the few racing games that is just *fun* after the legend Split\Second (Please go try that game). Neither of these amazing games got the recognition they deserved. Please, viewer, if you're on the fence about getting this game, you will NOT regret it.

neutral · AI labelView post →sadly I picked this game at sale, so at least my 5 cents - half of the maps have horrible design which does not count with speed and opponent actions so you get thrown outside of track quite often. Some roads have rails which are useless as you just drive over them. And thanks for obstacles near edge of track that completely slow you or throw you out of track. - rubber banding is terrible as always, if you are good then let's negate that and speed everybody up, if you suck let's let your…

You may ask "aren't those criteria a bit incompatible?" and yes, that's why I don't recommend the game. The tracks aren't intuitive to navigate, and the physics are unforgiving of mistakes. Add a some layers of randomness and inconsistent behaviors, and you'll often find yourself losing a race regardless of your skill, where only a casual gamer can be say "oh well!" and move on. In other words, it…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Next gen Rollcage Futuristic racer with hover jets and two sided cars which can drive on ceilings just like that. Huge wide tracks often split into multiple paths and plenty of vehicles to choose from. Speed is above your expectations so make sure to wear some googles. Levels turn racing into stunt event playing with perspective and changing how you drive - on walls, upside down and such. Vehicles have classic cars which have wheels and hoverjet cars which fly close to the surface. Generally…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game at first, but the more I played it, the more frustrated I became. Many times I have uninstalled it, only to get the urge to play it again and give it another chance. Only to be let down every time. The AI rubber-banding is far too strong. Even using "catch-up assist" doesn't help. If they have a lead on you, good luck. You may as well restart. The final lap of every race seems to have a curse where the AI catches up to you even if you've maintained a good lead for the entire…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the 2000s racing games sci-fi airy tracks aesthetic is done really well in this game. a really good rollcage spiritual successor
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The vehicle designs are cool and it feels really fast compared to most racing games, but the AI ruin the whole experience. They never seem to attack each other and gang up on you instead. You can get 700m+ ahead of them and they'll always magically catch up, even using a slower vehicle (stats wise). I wish there was a difficulty slider as I like the gameplay, but it's just not fun getting destroyed every race. You can literally 1v1 an AI with the same vehicle and they're faster than you for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite the looks, the game is actually set in the neolithic age. Humanity didn't develop the ability to draw maps. But let's be serious, who would like to know the shape of a racing circuit before driving some excessively fast thing on it? Or even more absurd, knowing where the heck you are?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mario Kart on steroids... Need I say more. For $30 it's better priced than Mario Kart World.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably my favorite racing game as of right now. The learning curve is rather steep but I think the racing would be a lot less intense if you weren't constantly at risk of hitting something and going to space. Soundtrack's really good, neurofunk drum & bass fits the racing, combat and setting all at the same time. For proper online racing you're gonna have to join the official GRIP discord server, but other than that the online experience is very good.

neutral · AI labelView post →Super fun and very well optimized! Way more fun than F-Zero GX etc. HDR was washed out at first, Unreal HDR fix from the steamcommunity fixed it easily. Looks amazing in both HDR and SDR. The game runs at 45 fps on my old 3550H Vega 8 on low settings, and runs at 180 to 240 FPS on my 3060 with all settings maxxed out. Looks fantastic both ways. Absolutely get this, this is the most fun I've had in any racing game in a long time.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the pursuit of playing something with the vibe of the old-school arcade racers, I stumbled upon GRIP. With only a couple hours in, I just wanted to lay down the controller and stop. There is some real potential here but the execution shows too many lackluster aspects to feel like it is worth it. 6/10 Pros: - The game gives a really satisfactory feeling of speed that few racing games pull off this well. - Vehicle handling feels good. Vehicles feel heavy with real grunt in the engine and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In short, one of the worst racing games I have ever played. Let's start with some positives: - Detailed models of vehicles. - A good sense of speed. - Ok graphics and sounds. Aaaand that's all. The rest is a total crap. In more detail: - The driving physics is inconsistent. Every small bump or jump gives you a 50/50 chance to either spin or yeet you off the track. - AI is brazenly cheating. Your opponents might get off the track few times, eat few missiles and still be able to catch up to you.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very aesthetically pleasing game with good visuals & good sound design. The vehicles look really nice. I think adding vehicles without wheels was probably a mistake since they just don't look as good; they just don't quite fit the game. The presence of micro-transactions is unfortunate.

If you liked Rollcage, 90% chance you'll like GRIP. Same tempo and feel. Three main differences: They added game-world lore, hovercars are available but don't really do anything different except LOOK different, and there is an option to permanently kill cars while racing. -As stated above: Lore. Finally. Not much, but enough. -Customizable cars. Seems like its…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i enjoyed grip xr and decided to get this one, its very fun. obviously its older and since i played the demo of the sequel to this i prefer the crank mechanic more. but this one has that grungey feeling to it. i like the grit this game comes with i wish it had more people playing though. it would be insane to play in a full lobby with other racers ;(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really good game Driving feels amazing Abilities are nicely designed BUT: 30 bucks worth?! hell naw, get it for 2 bucks via key controller support is still kinda bugged with anything other than xbox controllers marketing is ♥♥♥♥. It could have a great playerbase with this game quality! Get it for 5 or less bucks, it's a great game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 Four points for Music, Graphics and Style 0 Points for everything else. Cars bounce way to much. After Rank 7 the races are just pure luck. The railgun will ruin so many races for you. No warnings, no time to react, instant hit and you will be yeeted into oblivion. Once you fall back its insanely hard to comback. If this happens in the last round, its already lost. F this game, im salty as hell.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely love this game. If you were a fan of fast-paced racers like WipEout or F-Zero GX, this is one you shouldn’t miss. It’s visually stunning, very well optimized, and the handling feels excellent. The only area that could elevate it further would be the addition of more weapons and deeper vehicle customization. That said, the track design and overall variety are superb. Great work, Caged Element.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far, I'm having a blast playing this! The blistering speeds and track versatility are more than welcome after slews of kid-friendly titles that treat speed like a suggestion. My only gripes so far are: -that the tracks can sometimes surprise you, flipping you somewhere you not only didn't mean to go, or just throwing you off the track entirely. -you can be turned sideways and lose all momentum regardless of how you try to recover. -the rubberbanding only helps your opponents (npc's) and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game really wants to have everything, and it does. But Mario Kart 8 does this better. There is plenty to like about this game but the "Career" game mode offers no difficulty early on, and by then the game lost me. The ideas here are great, but again, mario kart has done this and perfected it. We do not need a gritty mario kart, twisted metal has a game from 2012 that does that. We need a pure anti-gravity RACING game. The items are lackluster, the tracks are too wide, they feel like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretty fun. Not sure how to make the resolution go high enough to match the screen on this device, handhelds that aren't the Steam Deck are really hit and miss with older games, I've noticed - it just resets to default every time I try - but it works well enough with those settings. Controller works without issues. Something kind of funny about playing a far future game with a current day Chinese SUV as one of the choices.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Could be a good game if the sound worked. The audio in the races just doesn't play. All the menu sounds and music are fine including the escape menu in the race, but there is no sound for the race itself. No sfx or music at all. If I can hear audio from EVERYTHING else except the race than it's a game problem. I paranoia checked all my sound settings and nothing had change. Guess I'll never know if this game is actually fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GRIP: Combat Racing - A game that really feels like Jak X at the core. While the graphics itself isn't next level, the combat is pretty straight forward and meh in my opinion, the game overall isn't bad. It's fun enough to grind through the levels and gain a bunch of achievements as bragging rights in the meantime. I've not played this game in VR, but I can just imagine the amount of motion sickness you can get with it. Long story short, if you like old school racing games with high speed and…
