I went into Heavy Rain expecting a clunky old PS3-era game, and yeah… it definitely shows its age. But after a few hours, I completely stopped caring. This isn’t a game you “win.” It’s a game you survive. From the first scene with Ethan just living a normal suburban life, I didn’t think much of it. Then the mall scene happened, and I actually felt that slow, sinking dread in my stomach. The game has this way of …

78% of the 279 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Heavy Rain. The complaint that keeps coming up: clunky and frustrating controls, especially on PC. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Critics, per Wikipedia

Heavy Rain is considered one of the best video games of all time, and was included in the book 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die. Metacritic reported that critical reception consisted of "generally favorable reviews". Out of a focus group of seventy, it was determined that none had assessed who the killer was before the game revealed it. David Ellis of 1UP.com praised the quality and detail of the sets as "spectacular", noting that the world felt "lived-in and genuine"; the characters were said to have a similar "gritty realness". Ellis' view was that the game relayed an emotional subtlety that "very few games have ever succeeded at", and that knowing the characters bore…

Heavy Rain is such a weird game because like… the atmosphere is immaculate, you really feel like you’re “in” every scene, but everything else about it is so bad. Like, the whole time I played it I just kept thinking “wow imagine how amazing this would be if it was a good game”

My experience can be described as infuriating. The store page claims the game offers Full Controller Support for my Xbox controller, yet it is impossible to complete the input prompts that involve pressing either one of the buttons or moving the right stick in a particular shape (such as the attempts to drink coffee in the kitchen of the starting area).

The best part is when Norman Jayden is slipping and sliding on the ice while other people are walking by him with no issue at all. This is a subtle yet critical hint that the protagonist did not have his orange juice in the morning.

It has been roughly 12 years since I first picked up Heavy Rain, back before I had a family of my own. You play a lot of games in a lifetime, and usually, they fade from memory once the credits roll. But this one? This one planted a seed in the back of my brain that I didn't even realize was there until years later. A Lesson for Real Life Now that I am a father of two, I realize Heavy Rain wasn’t just a game; it was a warning. There is a specific, haunting atmosphere in the prologue—the…

Heavy Rain is one of those games that stays with you long after you finish it. I didn’t just play it — I felt it. The story pulled me in completely, and at some points I genuinely forgot I was holding a controller. The characters feel real, flawed, and human, and I grew emotionally attached to them in a way that very few games have managed to do. Their pain, fear, and choices actually mattered to me. The atmosphere is heavy, dark, and emotional, perfectly matching the themes of the story.…
