Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 187 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (298 of 383 positive).
Players praise the game's interrogation mechanics and moral complexity. [1][2][3] Some find the story engaging but note repetitive gameplay and pacing issues. [4][5][6] Several reviewers criticize frustrating trial-and-error dialogue sequences. [7][8][9]

The game takes the artistic liberty of being intentionally frustrating. This is compelling as an interrogator because you have to decide what to do when you know who is guilty but can't quite figure out how to get them to confess. The frustration stops being compelling in chapter 8. In chapter 8 they flip the script and force you to suffer through an interrogation led by Internal Affairs where you have to click 32 …

Great game with a solid story behind it, but it becomes increasingly frustrating as it goes on—especially from Chapter 7 onwards. Even when you know who the culprit is, you're forced to follow a very specific dialogue sequence. If you don’t choose the exact right options, you fail the mission due to a strict time limit. I ended up having to follow a guide step by step just to finish Chapter 7. At that point, I …

Incredible! This game is successful, at least on Challenge Mode, in making you think about people and what will motivate them to do what you want rather than what is perhaps best for them. This naturally leads to it being advantageous to understand the enemy you are faced with in the story, particularly its ideology. But, if this seems too daunting, there are "advanced" interrogation techniques (I didn't use any, …

So confession, I've had this game on my wishlist for a very long time, and finally decided to buy it during the lunar sale. I can't say enough good things about this game. Like this is what LA noire should've been as far as the interrogation mechanics. I played the first playthrough as strictly by the book and used my psychology vodoo to empathize so much so at one point I was suspected of being part of the …

neutral · AI labelView post →This is a very well done game, but it just won't be for everyone, and unfortunately that includes me. This is probably my favorite implementation of mystery solving through suspect interviews in a game. The player has to keep in mind the suspect's fear and openness to questioning and choose a line of questions that match the suspect's emotional state, which is both a cool mechanic and a great way to direct storytelling. Sometimes interrogations will be "timed"; you are not literally on a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decidedly less fun than I thought it would be. There's not really multiple ways of going about the interrogation. It's mostly guess work the first time you interrogate a character, you'll make some progress but likely not enough to resolve anything... so you just replay the same thing again, memorizing what questions you need to click and then boom, you beat it on the second try! The fluff in-between investigations where you can send your team out seems entirely pointless.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A caveat-ed yes. At the "normal" level gameplay is fun in a light hearted way. You might have to replay a few of the harder levels once or twice, but generally you'll speed through with no real complications. It is more of a choose your own adventure/word puzzle than a challenge, so keep that in mind if you were expecting deep gameplay. Still, a perfectly fun way to play out a very well illustrated story for a few hours. (Those 21.8 hours as of writing come mostly from leaving the game on…

positive · AI labelView post →Blind Chess with Unsatisfying Random Events In 2017, I worked on a murder mystery adventure game project myself, which was similar in vein to this game; the core focus was on interrogation, psychological tells, and a dual personality-based list of dialogue choices that influence your rep with the suspects. Sadly, it was never meant to be a full-fledged project, but if it were to be one, I'd've aimed for something that Interrogation is. It's a truly unique experience, of which I'm glad these…

neutral · AI labelView post →Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 311: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ (8/10) Interrogation: You will be Deceived is an unusually cerebral game that mixes noir aesthetics, political tension, and investigative gameplay into something that feels both grounded and unsettling. It’s a story-driven strategy/management game on the surface—but under the hood, it’s a pointed critique of policing, terrorism, and power. Here, dialogue is the weapon, the trap, and the mirror. If you're in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sloppy. Game completely misses what they were aiming for. Interrogations quickly become clicking down the dialogue choices until you hit the right one, and when the mission timer is on you won't even read anything. I didn't even get in far enough to see the libtard writing that turned off other reviewers, the game design stopped me much earlier. Splash screen says "use headphones for the best experience". Why? So I can hear droning background music straight into my eardrums? There is no…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After spending more time playing, I have to say this is not something that I enjoy that much. The premise is great, the idea is refreshing. But I do wish old questions can disappear instead of us pestering the same thing all over again. It ruins the flow imo. Also, it gets to a point where I just spam click every options until I get the answer. Not great.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the general feel of the game, I liked managing the squad of my detectives, trying to crack the case... but where the game falls short the most is, ironically, the interrogation part. To me it just felt like throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks. And doing that under pressure. Ultimately, I got assassinated, and to me that's my canon ending. RIP, my game self.

neutral · AI labelView post →Could've been good, but shoots itself in the foot. The game isn't shy about painting one side of a spectrum as consistently bad, going as far to consistently use caricatures of that side to be the fall guy/perpetrator, and even does as much as trying to be subtle with anti-gun messaging. (Would-be burglar who's actually innocent of murder doesn't use a gun in the hood because that's somehow safer, a random airsofter is somehow the scout of the criminal organization, a former soldier is the guy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish the game was more puzzle/detective and less "fill the open and scared meter until they confess." As I played I discovered the truth in the crimes, but couldn't do anything about it until I filled the 2 conversation meters enough to get a confession. Close to fun, but a miss for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good concept but ultimately ruined by the lack of real choice, logic and/or deduction to solve the cases. Instead, you are forced to randomly click each option several times to advance the cases, it's either that or by following a guide/walkthrough, which unsurprisingly are not that many. To add insult to injury, some of the cases have a timer, which makes it even more frustrating to complete. All in all, I would not recommend this one, not even on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am not sure how it got so many awards? It is super enjoyable at first but then just becomes frustrating. Between resource management, story telling, trying to wildly guess what I am supposed to think that the developers think about what the character thinks?? I wish you could just simply fail and move on. Replaying interrogations just seems repetitive and not fair to the detective you have chosen to play. I don't know - I wish I got more out of this but it is just not fun as someone else…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is about following the correct sequence of questions. There is little to no feedback when you have the wrong order. So the interrogation will go on forever or until the timer runs out (for the timed ones). And then you have to start over, and over. It's a guessing game. Not as good as I expected.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game provides little player feedback. You'll win when it lets you and lose without it explaining why. The game initially presents itself as more open ended than it is. In reality you have to either get the person to empathize with you or fear you. The conversation topics won't go anywhere until one of them is a high enough number. The game doesn't explain how high of a number you need for topics to open up however and yet doesn't give you enough options seemingly to get numbers high…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A narrow thumbs down from me. I think the ethical dilemmas it wants to create are fatally undermined by how frustrating and awkward the gameplay is. There are better games in similar genres, like Neo Cab or Orwell. But despite not really caring about the story, the variations on the interrogation scenario did hold my attention long enough to complete it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →! Long Review Warning ! Mild Spoilers? ! I thought this game looked interesting, and as a fan of detective-esque games, I decided to check it out. I played through all the endings and got all the achievements, so I think I'm ready to have a stance. This game is pretty good, but not perfect by any means. Art: Absolutely amazing! I love the use of rotoscoping with the hand-drawn style. The characters show a decent amount of emotion and personality with limited frames of animation. Fits…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. But the silly use of gender pronouns and the fact that you can't switch this off in the settings killed it for me. I am not an English native speaker. It disturbed me that much that i had to quit playing it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting game mechanics. As I was getting into it the game ended. Too short and abrupt ending. No conclusions to many loose ends. Its a shame because there was potential. A lot of the "management" ends up being a chore without any significant impact on the story. The more I think, the more I feel like this game is unfinished and thus I cannot justify buying this game at any price. You would only be frustrated.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The premise sounds interesting, but the game is unplayable for me. The frame rate appears to be much faster than intended and the animations keep flickering. I tried to apply the fix shared in the discussion threads (enabling VSync and disabling G-SYNC in the Nvidia Control Panel), but it doesn't fix the issue. I won't refund the game because I got it for pennies, but it would be nice to get an official fix for this issue.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great promise, gets very tedious as it goes on. I wished there were more varying procedures as the game went on.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Concept of the game is interesting and art style is good, however the game mechanics are a bit inconsistent and a bit more reliant on trial and error and clicking back and forth. There isn't really any way to apply yourself and skills of deduction. Honestly speaking, I wouldn't recommend the game. Story is interesting but the gameplay mechanics fall a bit short.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent concept and would be alot better if it was more focused on regular criminals but unfortunately the writers chose ideology as their subject matter to interrogate for and were quite amateurish at that. So if you came for to get pulled in by some masterpiece of writing ill have to disappoint you. Core gameplay is interesting in that you have to try to get into peoples heads think and say what they want to hear and call out their contradictions and lies in what they say. Unfortunately its…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very little replay value, as you already know who is guilty in each case and just need to press a few more buttons in the other difficulty settings. Good for a one-time play-through.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The interrogation mechanics and writing are interesting enough to keep things engaging at first. Unfortunately, the slow pacing and repetitive gameplay kept it from being anything special. Not bad, but not particularly memorable either.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first case was interesting - you had to piece together conflicting witness statements and figure out the solution to a crime. But as the game went on I enjoyed it less and less. The "cases" became "We arrested three people who happened to be in the area, now figure out which one is guilty with no evidence". And the game was much more interested in the philosophy behind terrorism rather than anything to do with logical deductions. I also slowly began to notice that if I thought like an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a huge fan of detective games so I do not often notice when a game is more or less popular. After getting far into the game, needing to look up a name I forgot, I realized how underplayed this game is. So I feel it is my duty to recommend this game as strongly as I can with the most clarity I can provide without making any spoilers. This is a great game for people who enjoy the interview portions of games like LA Noire. I note that this has a true role-playing element, allowing for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game mechanics are fine, but the creators of this game have a laughable understanding of politics. The game feigns interest in examining real-world issues but quickly falls back on caricatures. The creators appropriate the aesthetics of anarchism with little to no understanding of how actual anarchist organizations function. The insight of the game's polisci professor was basically a high school student's reading report of the Wikipedia entry on anarchism. This game pretends to be bold but…

Also-- THIS GAME IS WAY TOO POLITICAL FOR IT'S OWN GOOD. 3 WORDS: TOO. MUCH. JARGON. I feel like I need to take an entire political science class just to figure out what 80% of people are saying and 95% of what's actually going on. My head and eyes literally hurt from doing just one mission (I've made it like half way I think), there is just so much reading and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I find it quite interesting because I love to read about ideology. Still, I think the replayability is zero, because the contents are all the same with 2nd playthrough. You won't do that unless you were an achievement hunter. For your record, I finished up challenge mode in 10 hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You have to psychologically break a shizophrenic person as part of the game. this is intolerable!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an interesting story but I expected more interaction with the player's choices and more variety in ways you can find information. Less of a mystery and more of a management game than I thought it would be.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very frustrating game. Looks very promising at first but it rapidly evolves into something you won't be able to play with. 'Why did I fail this time?' I don't know 'Why did it work now' Who knows. The look and feel is really nice but something doesn't work in the core mechanic of the game unfortunately.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, I liked this game... a bit. I liked Nice stylish graphics, good writing and adequate story... adequate up to a point. But past that point everything gets really weird and not in a good way. On the surface, you just have rather shallow and unpolished core mechanics: - Interrogations are based not on logical conclusions, but instead on statistics. Raise a number to a threshold and you win. Underwhelming. - Public relations are just wild guessing. You never get an explanation of the…

I fancy myself a bit of a visual novel buff so I wanted to play this game just to have played it and see what mechanics are involved in an interrogation-based game. What I thought was going to be a good cop / bad cop simulator turned out to be a game deeply entangled in political science and ideologies. I'm not saying that this is a great selling point, but I am saying that it just ended up way deeper than I thought. I learned a lot about views…
