What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 108 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (113 of 132 positive).

Love the idea of the game, the dungeon building aspect of it is cool, done by a few games before, but it's a mechanic I've always liked, and is implemented well here. The addition of the light mechanic, having a limited time to navigate the ruins adds a nice little twist too, so I appreciate that. And the pixel art, 8-bit music, with the nods to Scottish history, all create a nice atmosphere overall. However, the …

This game gives you the satisfaction of planning and building a dungeon that lets you get to your goals and stack buffs perfectly. Then you run out of light, panic and suddenly its an inescapable labyrinth in which you have no idea what the right way is. 10/10, I will be playing this one for a lot.

If you're sick of roguelikes, Vampire Survivors clones, deckbuilders and dungeon-builders, then this game is like a portal back to a time when all of these genres felt fresh and exciting and felt like they had boundless potential. It will quickly remind you why you got hooked on all of those genres in the first place. Buy it.

into the restless ruins lowkey surprised me it's a roguelike deckbuilder where you build your own dungeon then go explore it the vibe is super creepy but chill, like folklore meets pixel art combat's auto-battler style - simple but fun, gotta watch your torch or you start taking dmg some rng moments can be annoying but it's addicting overall

My initial review of this game was really negative, but the more I play I just think I was expecting the wrong thing going in. It's really awfully balanced, and you get offered things like a choice between 5% crit chance (5% more damage) and 5% crit damage (0.75% more damage). The enemies and combat in general are a pure stat check that might as well just be a type of slime that you have to build movement speed to …

60 of 166 · most liked firstOk. Into the Restless Ruins is dang good. The whole roguelike deckbuilder thing (I never tire of these) in which the cards mostly represent rooms you add to the dungeon. Then you traverse your dungeon, autobattling the baddies, trying to find "seals" and get to and beat the boss.

I've chosen the negative, ultimately because I will be refunding this game. Building your own path forward is truly novel, and I suspect that between the decisions you're forced to make and their consequences that you're forced to confront, a portion of that sense of freshness will persist for a long time despite this game's pitfalls. You have an obligation to yourself to make the…

neutral · AI labelView post →I didn't realize I'd beat the game in one day. I feel a little frustrated that the game doesn't have more content for the price. The maze/dungeon building part of the game was fun, but the combat was boring because weapon choice doesn't seem to matter much and training rooms (power ups) feel very weak. Overall, the concept is great but the game is much easier than I thought it'd be and is over in a blink.

neutral · AI labelView post →The dungeon-building aspect of this game is really cool. The art and music are very good. The combat is where it falls apart. You can discover new weapons during a run, but the weapons you pick up are not necessarily an upgrade from the default starting weapon. The axe and the dagger both felt like a huge downgrade from the sword. I felt like the game was punishing me for picking them up. There is no meta-progression for combat skills or stats. I know the devs have said combat isn't the focus…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Brilliant concept, well executed. Build a deck of rooms, use the rooms to buff yourself and create a path to shrouded areas. Jump into the dungeon you've built with no map and try to find the path you've laid out while fighting ever-growing hordes of monsters as your torch dwindles. Then do it again until you've found your way to the boss. Meta progression is nice, you quickly unlock many ways to tweak the difficulty, and you can save and quit mid-run. A very unique game that's tons of fun.

positive · AI labelView post →I see the vision, and it's definitely an interesting one, but the execution is tedious and not very fun. The key part of the game here is building the map. The map will be sectioned off by seals. You can only access the next part of the map by finding a seal and unlocking it. There will be rooms on the map hidden by fog. You have to figure out which one of these rooms is the seal by using your cards to build rooms and explore those obscured rooms. As you open seals, more and more rooms become…

neutral · AI labelView post →Into the Restless Ruins is such a unique game that marries two things I love and does it very well: deckbuilding and roguelikes! Runs are so addicting and trying to remember the path I made while racing for the exit is always a laugh. Great stuff @ant-workshop.com 👏🏽
positive · AI labelView post →Surprisingly good. Combat could use a little work, but eh, it's ok. Do expect enemies to get stuck near trees though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An interesting take on the card-based rogue-lite genre of indie games as of late, Into the Restless Ruins is a fun (but sometimes frustrating) romp where you build your own dungeon out, then explore it to expand until you can reach the boss chamber. It effectively has a modern take to bump combat (no "attack" key, but positioning and timing matter in your movement) and encourages you to think strategically when placing down additional rooms. The music is nice and thematic, plus it is nice to…

I downloaded it as soon as it was available, and only wanted to give it a quick spin during lunch time but ended up playing 2 hours without putting it down ONCE, almost missing an important work related meeting! neutral · AI labelView post →The dungeon-building aspect of this game is really cool. But the run itself I found it a little boring. Not for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You have a deck of rooms different depending on the stage. You can add more after killing enemies mostly. Each room has different size, effect and cost. The goal is to build your dungeon room by room, finding small misty areas on the way and unseal enough of the place to reach the boss. While doing that you have to keep your hp above 0 but also keep your torch burning and it matters a lot. Focusing on the torch is very important especially early on. You'll have to juggle between enemies and…

neutral · AI labelView post →I very rarely leave negative reviews, and I didn't hate this game. But dear god did it frustrate me immensely with its mix of brilliant and awful design decisions. Okay first off: combat. It is bad and uncompelling. It's just not engaging. It lacks any particular strategy. There's mild positioning that happens. The combat progression is slowly and largely irrelevant. Maybe I'll come back w/ a review that's like "actually combat really opens up after the 20th hour" but somehow I doubt it. Then…

positive · AI labelView post →Get's extremely repetitive and boring very quickly... The concept is very cool, but the drafting/deckbuilding isnt interesting enough and the exploring of your dungeons isnt interesting enough either; it sadly results in two very mediocre games put together
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Into The Restless Ruins was my number one played demo in 2024, according to my Steam Replay - I absolutely loved it. So I've been counting down the days for the full release. I was really excited to check out the full thing, and I started afresh even though it it carried over my demo save, which was brill! It’s a roguelike deckbuilder where you build the environment that you explore. A typical run sees you placing rooms for your dungeon based on your available points, then setting off on your…

neutral · AI labelView post →---See where this game landed on my Rogue-like/lite Deckbuilder Tier List beneath this rec!--- This has the deckbuilding room mechanic that was also used by Blue Prince which released around the same time. I much prefer this game to that one, as it’s far more gamey. Into the Restless Ruins reminds me quite a lot of Dungeon of the Endless. That game was a bit harder and slightly more complex to grasp, and has very different mechanics, but the result of everything both games do ends up being…

neutral · AI labelView post →Into the Restless Ruin really surprised me. The core loop of building the dungeon, uncovering the seals, and beating the boss is tight and super satisfying. I wasn’t sure about the auto attack at first, but it turns out it’s a total lifesaver, letting me focus on dodging and positioning instead of frantic clicking. It all comes together in a way that’s both strategic and fast-paced. Definitely worth checking out.

neutral · AI labelView post →As a seasoned roguelike, and dungeon crawler player this is a game i was wanting to play. There are some dungeon tile laying builders in the market, but this one hits so many points of interest and it does it with a cool and slick way. + The pixel art is gorgeous, + the deck-building aspect done with meaningful decisions + the game loop makes you take your time to build but rushes you when it is fight time + the tile laying is super rewarding and fun and the puzzle aspect + the action is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Into the Restless Ruins is an interesting twist on the deckbuilder genre, in that deckbuilding just half of what you're doing. Each round starts with you placing rooms from your hand in order to build a route forward, and neatly balances exploration with preparation (from the start of a run you need to be thinking about what bonuses you'll need to defeat the boss). Once you have placed your cards, you then make your way through the dungeon you have built, fighting off enemies and collecting…
