What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 62 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (189 of 264 positive).
Players find the game short and feel it is more like DLC than a full sequel. [1][2][3] Many reviewers criticize the lack of voice acting and poor English translation. [4][5][6] Some players enjoy the nostalgic charm and relaxing atmosphere despite the flaws. [7][4][8]

Really lazy release after all the care and attention that went into the re-release of the second game a few years ago. The max resolution is only 1440p while Kao 2 allowed you to play at whatever. No achievements or cloud save support which Kao 2 had, the game stutters, and finally the translation from the original polish version is really poor. Like it was machine translated. Stay away unless it gets patched up.

It's a very short and simple game that does leave you wanting more than what it offers. While it's set on a different location and theme it really does feel like a expansion for the second game which isn't a bad thing but the game does end before it can really begin. Now one big criticism that I'm sure a lot can agree is the abundance of misspells, grammar errors, and more in the games text which while funny at …

Best Polish game! Witcher doesnt have sexy Kangaroo’s! Why did my PC turn into a Nintendo 64? Why am I on a couch? My monitor is now a tube TV! And why am I enjoying myself so much?!?! I always thought this game was just a fever dream of mine, nice to know it actually exists. Basically this is a bootleg, slav-made Rayman 2 clone with its own ideas - Very good B grade platformer from mid 2000s. I'll reccomend this …

A recommend, albeit a reluctant one. This game is really for those who played Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 and want more content. The game consists of about 5 levels (6 if we count the tutorial). The first 4 levels are dedicated to finding the 4 artefacts needed to unlock the gate for the last level, which holds the game's sole boss fight. It's a pretty short game, with some cool ideas that vary in their execution. The …

Feels like DLC for 'Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2' more than a full game. Despite my list of cons here, I'm still recommending the game, but only if you enjoyed Round 2 and wanted a few more hours of content (about 3-4 hour in total). Otherwise just stick to Round 2 or the reboot. Pros: Playing this game using a keyboard still feels good. I love the visual style as it is still the same art direction as 'Kao the …

63% of the 62 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Kao the Kangaroo: Mystery of the Volcano (2005 re-release). The complaint that keeps coming up: very short game, feels like DLC. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

I was looking forward to playing the third installment of the game since I never got my hands on it and the only way I could see what the game is about were Let's Plays or speedruns on Youtube. When the ports were revealed, I was genuinely excited to finally experience on my own what the game was like. The game opens up with no dialogue whatsoever aside from Kao's gameplay grunts as opposed to the retail release from 2005 where it was fully voice acted in Polish.…

Now, the exact reason why we were digging escapes me. But we often did a lot of digging. Kids—particularly boys—like to dig. It's just fun. Started with sandboxes. But we decided to move further afield. And there we were with our big shovels, just digging a hole. Four feet in, we found something. A shoe. One with a bright red high heel, to be…

Controller support is there but the mappings are from ancient times, mapping pause to the right joystick click and select to X and close out of menu on A. No love or care put into the product and no voice acting. This is probably just an unfinished port that was laying around and got published. I loved Kao and Tate, I don't know if I do anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Polish platformer that is decent. You play as kangaroo and smack down some nasty creatures. Controls are smooth and responsive, but make sure to download proper layout when using controller. You have your punches and roll, double jump and spin attack. You can stomp on ground and throw some dynamites. Level design is quite good and interesting enough to make you explore more. Maps aren't that big, but it doesn't matter. Game have day and night cycle. Music makes you chill for awhile. Humor in…

I really expected more from them; the Kao 2 steam port was perfect, and here they did nothing, even my old physical copy plays better... This game doesn't even have a dub. The music and sound effects work just fine, but there are no voices!? -_- How can you publish a game with such a bug?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →These might be closer to mediocre than BAD bad but I don't expect too many people to mention them so why not. - **Drakengard 3** - action adventure game with dated graphics (even at the time of release), terrible performance on the original hardware, huge amount of asset reuse (including whole levels) and writing that can range from childish, crass and annoying to extremely emotional. It's rough but it's also my favourite Yoko Taro game. - **Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex** (2004, PS2)…

neutral · AI labelView post →Definitely my favourite of the whole franchise. May not be a spectacular game by any means, and somehow in some ways a step backwards from previous game it's still a great experience. For some reason, the English version doesn't have voice acting, also the written dialogues are full of grammar mistakes. Anyway, as far as gameplay goes, this is a very relaxing game, pretty chill atmosphere, relaxing music, pretty easy gameplay for the most part, this game is an enjoyable journey. 8/10

It wouldn't really be the case if the game was exactly as the old release (even though You can really feel that this game is worse then the previous ones), but it appears that there are new bugs that were not present in the original release (the old ones are also still present), The main menu doesn't show the progress of Your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those times I wish there was a thumb-in-the-middle rating. Kao: Mystery of the Volcano is the third game of the series, and what a bumpy series it has been for me. My introduction to these games was with Round 2, which I enjoyed enough to finish and 100%. Then, I went backwards to the first game, which I did not enjoy at all and DNF'd. Only to jump back forward to this one. Giving that I liked the 2nd one, I had a fair bit of hope that this one would follow suit. Generally, it's…

neutral · AI labelView post →"Kao the Kangaroo: Mystery of the Volcano (2005 re-release)" is an ancient game from 2005. It's a whopping 20 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimer: I have received this game for free through a LurkIt campaign for streamers. Leaving a review was not part of the campaign and I do it out of my free choice to share my thoughts. Not as good as Round 2, but definitely better than the first one. Nothing's wrong with the game but if You wanna really get into the series go for Round 2 or the newest Kao from 2022.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Couldn't play the game properly because the screen is broken. The game is genuinely unplayable in widescreen mode and I can't get it out of widescreen mode.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you've never played this game and want to get anything worthwhile from it, install the Resurgence of the Volcano mod, it actually fixes a lot of the issues of the original and adds new content that is comparable to the stuff from Round 2 in terms of quality. That being said, it turns a 4/10 game into a 6-7/10 one (hehe, six seven), so don't get your expectations too high if you don't have any nostalgia for it. I still had a blast, so I'm leaving a positive note, and if Chaos Flask team is…

positive · AI labelView post →Kao The Kangaroo is $2.56 CAD on the eShop. Fun game that runs well on the Switch 2
positive · AI labelView post →It's not a long game, and there is definitely some jank, however there is a charm here and definitely has some unique and fun ideas. Some areas can get a bit of a ramp in difficulty out of nowhere, especially with some of the vehicle levels, but still doable if you stick to it or know how to cheese the areas. I recommend it but make sure to find a good community provided controller layout with Steam Overlay, the default is weird and not as responsive

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Couple of disclaimers to start with: I'm primarily a PC player, even most of the console games I played happened via emulation so I'll drop stuff from both. I'm also really fond of games willing to try something different, even if they end up mediocre or bad - these ain't GOTY material. With that out of the way, here's a short list of titles I really enjoyed: - Croc: Legend of the Gobbos (PC, PSX, Sega Saturn) - 3D platformer with relatively slow and clunky gameplay (kind of similar to classic…

Nothing good but nothing bad either. But then I finished the first level and had to do a race and that race was garbage. I don't know what was wrong with those controls but kept spinning along the tube which doesn't help since I clearly need to be accurate to hit the boost and avoid the speed bumps. I tried with a keyboard and it was even…
