I loved 90s point and click adventure games growing up, so I gave this a try. The atmosphere and art is nice, but three things turned me off. (1) The 90s nostalgia feels incomplete. Cathy doesn't look or sound like someone from the 90s (at least to me, who grew up in the 90s). She feels like a contemporary insert. (2) There was nothing that made me interested in playing as Cathy specifically and hearing her view …

A gripping mystery that humbled me. I didn’t expect the story to take such a dark and mysterious turn. The first two chapters were smooth sailing—easy enough that I felt pretty confident in my detective skills. But once the logic started getting really complicated, I realized my brain just couldn't keep up anymore. Even so, this is a great game. The voice acting is solid, the music fits the mood perfectly, and you …

I really enjoyed this game. The story was great. I usually find myself getting bored with point-and-click games, but this one kept me wanting to know what would happen next. It starts off with college student Kathy attending her grandfather’s funeral and it turns into an investigation into how he became ill. From there, the story just gets stranger and darker. The writing is excellent, the atmosphere is weird in a …

Decent classic style point'n'click adventure game. Young detective story with a paranormal twist. PROS: - Very pretty pixel graphics. - Good voice acting. - Good music. - Good puzzles, satisfying to figure out. - Decent story. MEH: - Graphics are mostly static, you can see the limited budget. There could be some basic animations on water, sky, tree leaves etc., but most stuff is static. CONS: - none GAMEPLAY 8/10 …

+ Gorgeous pixel art. Not just “nice retro graphics” - expressive animation, great lighting and locations that actually feel authored instead of assembled from a pixel-art starter pack. + It’s short. Adventure games should end before I start resenting the furniture in every room. + No pixel hunting. If the solution is on screen, I’m solving a puzzle - not getting an eye exam. - The story. I finished it. I watched …

Need Do No Harm is a little confusing in mechanics, but a solid game that I can’t wait to play more of. Lovecraftian “life sim” type game. Kathy Rain 2: Holy shit, looks absolutely gorgeous.

As I wanted the collecting cards and another 100% game, I didn't really mind doing this again, it's a really cool Point&Click adventure that I wholeheartedly recommend! Go get the Director's cut though, it's a bit…

neutral · AI labelView post →The ending of @clifftopgames.bsky.social’s Kathy Rain 2 was pretty much perfection. It closed the story off beautifully and answered all the questions I had from the first game. It also leaves the door open for a potential third game, but if that’s it for Kathy Rain, I think they nailed it!

positive · AI labelView post →Pretty good point and click detective game. The puzzles were enjoyable, the graphics, voice acting and presentation are all very good. A few good characters, but not many with a lot of personality - too many characters in service roles. My favourite character - aside from the protagonist - was a homeless man you meet a few times. Lots of Twin Peaks references in there, but I don't know whether that was a good idea because then it just made me feel like... this was Twin Peaks but without a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You play as Kathy Rain, a somewhat 2000s-edgy young adult, who is trying to cope with a lot of family trauma while investigating the suspicious happenings surrounding her grandfather's life. There is a lot of nods to more famous media like Twin Peaks, True Detective etc. and it mostly works. I think the beginning is certainly more interesting than the end but that's probably just my general dislike of overly metaphorical storytelling.

neutral · AI labelView post →Kathy Rain is old school point & click adventure games created using old Adventure Game Engine. Using old engine means the graphic uses really low resolution sprite like the 80's/early 90's games of the genre. The director's cut version probably uses newer or modern engine & higher resolution graphics. Despite that, the environment detail is good enough to look and you clearly can tell what object is what on the screen. The music & sound is just so-so, nothing great, nothing bad either. I just…
