Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 105 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (288 of 332 positive).
Some reviewers find the game short, with a playtime of around 6-7 hours. [1][2][3] Several players note that puzzles can be counterintuitive or rely on trial and error. [4][1][5]

As a big fan of the first two games, I was really looking forward to Origins. So far, the first three and a half chapters were rather disappointing. The game feels lifeless and doesn't recapture the atmosphere of the originals at all. There are very few hotspots to inspect and NPCs to talk with and some screens are just empty filler with nothing going on. The puzzles were ok so far. Nothing outstanding, but also not …

This game had enormous footsteps to fill - did it manage to do so? Not quite... but it still is great to see Simon again! The animations and visuals are great, voice acting is decent for an indie game, and they did capture Simon's character pretty well. Overall, the story is fun to play! What it lacks from my point of view is depth - the world seems rather "shallow" with only few NPCs with limited dialogue options, …

Simon the sorcerer is back in what I would consider the first good Simon game in a long time. After the buggy mess of 3, and the drastic changes of 4 & 5, it is good to see the series return to its roots. The style of comedy almost perfectly resemble what you would expect from the original game, and the return of Chris Barrie as the voice of Simon makes the game feel extra special. The developers put a lot of effort …

I have been a fan of the Simon the Sorcerer series since the original - and have played sequels including 2, 3D and 4. You can only imagine my surprise when I learnt a new Simon game was released - featuring original voice talents - and as a prequel to the original. Whilst the new art style does take some getting used to, it is stunning and gorgeous. The humour is spot on and what you'd expect from a Simon game, the …

It's not bad, but not fully up to the standards of the classic point and click games we grew up with. The story and graphics are OK. Duration is a bit short, finished the whole game in 6,5 hours. The areas feel a bit empty and there aren't that many dialogues. Some of the puzzles are counterintuitive for example opening a trapdoor with a fork Overall probably not worth it for the price tag, but it gets a thumbs up …

Simon the Sorcerer Origins received "generally favorable" reviews according to review aggregator Metacritic, which assigned the Windows version a score of 76 out of 100 based on 17 critic reviews. OpenCritic rated it "Strong", with a Top Critic Average of 75 out of 100 from 46 reviews and 63 per cent of critics recommending it. Critics widely agreed that the game is a faithful revival aimed at existing genre fans. Ken Talbot of Nintendo Life scored it 7 out of 10, calling it a solid return for the series and praising the script and the streamlined controls, but finding the animation stiff and some puzzles needlessly frustrating. Jack Penwell of DualShockers also gave 7 out of 10,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like so many other people, I really wish there was a neutral option, because I can’t unequivocally recommend this. For a start, it’s very hard to reconcile the fact that the protagonist is an (almost) 12-year-old boy with the fact that he’s being voiced by someone old enough to be his grandad (seriously, Smallthings, Chris Barrie’s great and all, but he’s well over 60, could you really not have found someone younger…?!). Secondly, I found that it wasn’t always obvious to know what to do and/or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's clear that a lot of effort went into this title but it's problems outweigh the fun I got out of it. PROS: -The music is pretty good and consistent. -Some of the puzzles are a lot of fun and the magic system is quite a nice addition. -Developing a very shonky universe. STS has never had a consistent world and actually becomes quite modernised after the first. I could have done without the extended Harry Potter references but the school of magic is quite well done and a fun place to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't review games often. I grew up on point and click adventures on the amiga, so was obviously excited to see this game released. The graphics are great. The story (so far) is so-so. The dialogue is alright. The voice acting is decent, for the intro I just assumed it was someone doing a Chris Barrie impression before I googled it (it is Chris Barrie). The intro is tedious, it would be nice to skip it, as the interface is hardly ground-breaking. The game world feels like filler, walking…

neutral · AI labelView post →In my opinion (and in the opinion of most reviewers) Simon the Sorcerer Origins is a brilliant game that stands out from the crowd in several respects. The game features a very distinctive style of gameplay. I feel that the levels and the game as a whole convey an atmosphere unlike anything I have encountered in other games. The music contributes perfectly to this mood. During conversations, we can choose from a wide range of dialogue options. More or less anything we might want to say in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Length is about 7 hours. The story is mediocre and tedious. Graphics look like a cheap flash game with inconsistent quality but are generally okay. Two missable achievements. It's a master class in "how not to design a point & click adventure": main character constantly complaining 4th wall breaks galore unskippable cutscenes slow dialogue clunky inventory hot-spots have to be used multiple times in a row to do anything fast-travel system that wastes more time than it saves tons of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you love graphic adventures, this game is for you! The story is linear and sensible, and allows you to delve deeper into some aspects of the characters. Very good gameplay, well-crafted graphics, fun animations, spot-on comic timing, and a little touch of emotion are always welcome.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really, really wanted to like this game. I grew up with Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2 being some of my most beloved games. The title song alone sparks joy in me. Well, this Origins title is something different. Strike 1: Graphics Gone is the charm of the precise pixel art. What we get in advance is an art style I wasn't able to force myself to like. I was able to digest similar shift with the latest Monkey Island for instance, it worked a tad better there. Not here, unfortunately. The art style…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The overload inventory is mandatory for a good Pont & Click Adventure. Origin fully delivers on that. Story is good, the puzzles are a bit too tricky on some parts. I mean yes, in a P&C Game you can't make mistakes, just Trial and Error on everything, combine everything with anything etc etc. but some solutions were a bit too far from plausible. A lot of fourth wall gags in it and since it's a prequel you meet people you may or may not already know from the Original Games. Anyway, I had fun,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simon the Sorcerer Origins is a very beautiful and charming p&c adventure, but unfortanetely not necessarily a good one - in my opinion. The art is beautiful, the game very nicely sets the scene, has quite a bit humour and good voice acting. That said, Simon can sometimes just be a d*** (but I've not played the original games and that might just show my age) and while the story has a nice flow, it's also not particularly gripping. But when it comes to the actual puzzles, it's quite a bit more…

Nothing about this is intuitive, the mysteries and next steps make no sense, and the actual game play is so aggravating. I shouldn't have to click 10 times to get to the next "room" or area, right next to me. The visuals are great but everything else about this is infuriating. neutral · AI labelView post →I've just finished the game and definitely felt I had an enjoyable experience. Those planning to go in and expect a carbon copy experience of the first 2 games should definitely leave those feelings at the door. Visually, the only part that really felt jarring about the game were the difference in character art. Most background characters had an extremely different, simplified style to the point it actively hurt the immersion of the world. Seeing these characters art updated would make…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am grateful after all these years we got a new Simon the Sorcerer back to his 2D roots and didn't give a middle finger to fans like an certain island of monkeys did (imo). It's a a good point and click, I give it a solid 7 out of 10. Not the longer point in click in comparison to Simon 1 and 2 I will compare to that. The music and the voice of the original Simon help with the feel of nostalgia, puzzle wise I say it's medium, there was only 2 parts I got really stuck on and the solution…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've not finished it yet, but this is a Steam Awards 2025 review. Generally, I am not a fan of point'n'click, however, Secret of Monkey Island, back in 1990, was so remarkably innovative on so many counts, it ranks in my all-time top 3, easily (Trade Wars 2002 is my all-time favourite, Spelunky HD has to rank as my 2nd, although Slay the Spire is nipping at its heels). I learned of Simon about 7 years ago, and played through it; it was absolutely delightful, and a nice flashback to the time.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game had many things going against it. From a series that was pretty much dead in the water, the majority of its games being mediocre at best (only the first two are really notable, the third one being a very rough transition to 3D (though imo, it has its charm), the fourth being just an awful start to another game studio taking over, and the fifth being a better game, but still lacking in the love of the original. A long development time with many delays and unexplained silences. A lack…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can not in good conscience leave a positive review just because of nostalgia sake. The humour is lacking. I mean really lacking, you can watch any YouTube video of the first 2 games, and skip to any random part and hear something funny, i laughed like twice the entire game, that's pretty bad. The voice acting is poor, lacks the right tones with the situations like i said on day 1 and as every one else is noted. Chris Barrie is a good actor and voice actor, yet here he is trying to do a child…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My honest review : I would absolutely recommend this game, despite... - the fact that it's very short - the fact that the animation doesn't feel "old school" but rather "low budget" - the fact that the (english) voice acting is really not great (it will often feel like they didn't get the jokes) However, despite this, this is still a great point and click and if you've ever played Simon the Sorcerer, you'll enjoy this very much. neutral · AI labelView post →Good game overall. Loved the art style. Puzzles were a bit contrived in places, dialog with NPCs was a bit weak, if you did get stuck at all, you're on your own, the NPCs simply didn't care what you were up to nor did Simon show any interest in sharing. Downsides aside (which I think are likely budget constrained), it's a solid Simon game... I'm left hoping for more but being a prequel to an already soured series (3D), I'm not sure that'll really work.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a bit short and most puzzles are very straight forward. But the hand drawn animations are nice and the music is a nice hommage to the original. It's not as epic, but nice enough. The Steam Deck version is a catastrophe. The run script consists of two lines. Both just plain wrong, which they would have seen had they run it once. And once it's fixed the controls don't work. Switch to Proton instead for now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game i grew up playing all the original games ow the childhood memories. My only complaint is that the pub in the town has been renamed (bloated-goat) instead of the original name (drunken-druid) apart from that it is a very enjoyable game, i highly recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm intrigued by the Simon the Sorcerer: Origins prequel game, if for no other reason than it has a neat animated visual style. I cannot think of many series less in need of a prequel, but maybe this will afford the dev (Smallthing Studios) a chance to do a proper remake of Adventure Soft's series.
neutral · AI labelView post →I really enjoyed the art style, colorful & magical alternate world and creative puzzles. Yes, the story has some cliché aspects (a kid accidentally has found himself in a magic world & trying to go back home), but by using humor they managed to make it a funny journey — rather than boring. The things I liked most: That evil wizard named Sordid + puzzles in the wizard college (especially creating potions in the cauldron) + excellent color choices in every scene + voice acting + humor. The only…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This addition to the Simon the Sorcerer franchise is a fresh breath of air compared to the atrocity that is Simon 3D. It much closer resembles the first 2 games in mechanics, spirit and humor. It's a little short, but it does everything it should do. I had loads of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A real return to form for the Simon the Sorcerer franchise. I loved the first two games growing up, but the series went off the rails with a pretty unpleasant-looking Simon the Sorcerer 3D and then a fourth and fifth game that barely exist in anyone's memory. I was really excited for this game as it seemed to being produced by people who cared about the originals. Firstly, it's really nice to hear Chris Barrie again. It took me around 7 hours to complete, without looking up any spoilers or walkthroughs.
