What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 55 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (43 of 57 positive).
Players praise the game's queer representation and inclusive characters. [1][2][3] Many find the game too short for its price. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note the resource management is too easy. [7][8][6]

Actually a very SHORT journey. I completed the game in less than two hours and immediately asked for a refund. There just isn't enough content here to justify a whopping $25 price tag, and the extremely simple game mechanics leave no room for expansion because doing more of the same would just be boring. It's got lovely art and a good message, but you need an actual game to back that up!

I'm really enjoying the game. The game mechanics are easy to grasp, the design of the UI is straightforward and appealing, and I really enjoy the art. The story is easy to grasp onto right from the start and the characters are compelling, all while keeping the text and dialogue very succinct. You can enjoy the story without getting bogged down in too much reading (which is a good thing since this game is not a …

This short choose-your-own-adventure type game is like a queer Firefly and I'm so here for it! The diverse crew was refreshing change to most space-themed games and the overarching story was gripping, lending a feeling of urgency to each decision along the way. Loved the characters, such as the Matias the Drag Queen Muscle and Denny the thief with the hover scooter---what fun! The game can be completed in 3-5 hours …

A nice story if you love Becky Chambers, Firefly, and inclusive art. It's short but I could see some replay-ability if they included a hard mode. It was worth the price for 4 hours of interesting gameplay.

A short, sweet and feel-good visual novel with great characters and LGBTQ+ representation! I haven't quiiiite finished my run of A Long Journey, but even without seeing the ending (or endings?) I can deffo recommend it for someone looking for something easily digestible to finish in a day. The art, character writing and music are all spot-on. Story pacing is good and nothing drags on. World-building is given out …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having backed this project on Kickstarter, I am glad they have delivered the product. I can see a lot of passion, but the 'game' just isn't done yet. Let me explain. First off, I like the Firefly vibes. You assemble a crew of persons and set out on an adventure. The characters seem very divers and distinctively designed and the setting promises a lot of exiting adventures, but there is just nothing there. You are dumped into a story, after the initial short animation, completely confused.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Supported this game on Kickstarter. It is very very short and doesn't have as much story as I expected, seeing as the marketing talks about ex-Telltale veterans and story heavy. The gameplay is fine, very simple management that I didn't have much trouble with. A direct run from start to end without much complications. The LGBTQ representation is nice but there is not that much time to get to know the crew. When I first saw space adventure, I expected more RPG like gameplay with…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't work out very well. The game is too simple. A lost chase results in [Game over] with no alternative plot options. Sad. Police interrogation at just one station. There are no authorities laws on other planets and stations. Look for escaped AI? Nah There are no relationships or conflicts in the crew which it would be interesting to resolution as captain-role. Too many resources received for work. +Markets where you can exchange what you need for your next flight. There are no side-quests…

I've played a few games like this before and really enjoyed them, but something about this game just didn't click with me. It's not a bad game at all, just not my cup of tea. Here are some pros/cons for those on the fence tho! Pros: - cool art - queer characters/representation - interesting story telling/concept Cons - limited character customization, especially when it comes to body…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The intriguing Firefly-ish atmosphere, the inclusiveness, dialogues and management aspects captured me in the demo and got me to back the game. But as so often, it was (probably more or less had to be) released before its full potential could be reached. So it's space sci-fi but refreshingly, there's no laser pew pew or otherwise killing (IIRC). I can't remember any physical violence apart from the first video sequence. A lot of the game is about escaping trouble through trickery. You CAN…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been looking forward to this game for quite some time. I just completed my first play through (and lost). I have enjoyed the music but wish it WASN'T automatically at 100% volume - it scared the heck out of me in my headset I almost jumped out of my chair upon start up of the game. However, the music is quite neat and I enjoyed it being different for every place you visit. Visually, it's very interesting mix of 2D/3D rendering and I would love to visit some of these planets IRL if they…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Holy moly, this is probably THE most infuriating game I've played in a long time. I don't know how you come up with a way to make travelling across space so boring, but here we are... Gameplay is so uninspired, repetitive and non-challenging that you have to go out of your way to lose. It's basically match similar icons and push wait button. Resource management doesn't exist here, they are overflowing your ship all the time. Music is abnoxiously loud and out of place. The one ost which is good…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like management games, I have no stake in lgbtq+ stuff but I do love character customisation (even if it plays a very minimal role in this game.) I got the game from a Streamers giveaway (not paid, just free game and a few extra keys.) I only played one run of the game, I beat it first try, it is not a hard game or all that long (as I was not always focused on it). The main draw will be the dialog and characters. For that it's fine, nothing that stands out either really good or bad. The…

neutral · AI labelView post →I think 25 euros is too high of a price for the content you get. The art style is beautiful. Sadly I felt the characters were less complex than their character art made them appear. The gameplay is very simple and the resource management is not that fun cause you get rewarded a lot of resources so it felt a little like a chore and not a challenge to me at some point. For a very text based game I did not enjoy the writing as much as I would like and I appreciated that it is not very long cause I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First time I launched the game, had to restart because of a bug during character creation. Second, I saved right after the tutorial and left because of some business I had to tend to, came back, only to discover that the save wasn't taken into account : had to redo my character and tutorial (not too long, but still : that's twice already that I'm remaking my early game. Then, when I was able to play, I got a crew chat during my first travel, who included someone who wasn't - and COULDN'T BE at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good concept, poorly executed. The art is well done, but the limited animation, lack of voice acting, and simplistic game-play loop is something I would expect to find on Newgrounds for free, not on Steam for full price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little game that adds some gameplay to choose-your-adventure visual novels.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm very torn. This game has been in my Wishlist for a while, pending its release, and when it finally came, I was happy to jump in. It was a little different than I was expecting, but still enjoyable. The only problem is, after 3 hours of play, it's... finished? And I only met 4 of the available seven(?) characters? I LOVE a game that is comfortable with trans representation, as well as addressing some important and rather stark topics in a creative way. The game design is quirky and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a fun game! I enjoyed the challenge, getting to have an impact on the story and the characters, and ended up feeling a connection to every member of my crew by the end of my play through. The world the player get a glimpse into is interesting and left me asking questions, definitely in a good way! There are interesting queer and disabled characters and the customisation options for the player include choosing your pronouns. So glad I played this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished a hashtag provided game of A Long Journey To An Uncertain End and I love it. The characters, the writing, it was queer as all hell and I'm gonna play more of it tonight offline!
positive · AI labelView post →A wonderful jaunt through space with a few of your closest criminal friends! Playing on day one, there are the expected few bugs and balancing issues that need to be addressed, but that should come in time. As it is it's an incredibly charming adventure of close calls, abusive ex-lovers, and finding a way to dress nice, and well worth a play-through or three! But ill go more into the story (a few warnings) and gameplay. Storywise, it's straightforward and solid. You are a sentient ship in a…

neutral · AI labelView post →Haven't gotten to the end quite yet, but so far I'm enjoying myself! The resource management really keeps you on your toes. I thought I had a pretty good set-up since I never had to worry about supplies or fuel when I got caught by the ex for the first time and realized I'd forgotten about the most important resource: time. Currently I'm cruising around with 4-7 hours to spare every time I stop at a port which is not recommended. You can see the game still needs a bit of polish though. For…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming, colorful characters in a universe that begs to be explored. It's a lightly mechanized, beautifully illustrated visual novel that I definitely enjoyed. While I would have enjoyed more challenge and story impact from the resource management / choices matter aspect of the game - the lovely writing and inventive narrative more than won me over.

neutral · AI labelView post →I really would like to recommend this game, but I can't at this price. Way too short. In under six hours I played three complete runs. Choices are limited and there isn't much to the "jobs" you take. Once you get the hang of the game's mechanics it is very simple and there just isn't much to the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great for a pretty specific group of people; queer scifi-loving casual gamers who like the kind of moral decisions you'll find in a Starfinder Society RPG game. This isn't a "trigger reflex" game but rather a story that's being unfolded by your actions and team assignments. The characters you pick up along the way are all coping with the definition of "humanity" in different ways and have fun back-stories that are revealed during game play. The challenge of the game is pretty low…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very sweet, very fun. Healing. Probably needs a slightly better explanation of some of the mechanics, but it isn't difficult to intuit.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This felt like a graphic novel with minor game mechanics tacked on to me and it just did not click at all with what I was expecting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A long Journey has so far been fun for me, I can see a lot of replay potential by making different choices. I started my game on my PC , but then out of curiosity wanted to see if it would run in my steam deck and it runs perfectly without me having to change a thing. This type of game is really perfect for the steam deck as it has a pretty casual pace if you need it to. I can see a lot of room for variability between runs by taking on (or not taking on) certain crew members as well as in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A tentative recommend--probably with the caveat that I would wait for a sale in retrospect. Overall, it's a charming game that clearly had a lot of love put into it, and a great concept with a mid-execution. I paid day one price for it and while I don't regret purchasing it at that price, that mostly stems from the fact that I am supporting an indie studio and a passion project that I hope they work on or spin-off. Pros: -Interesting concept: The world and lore is more interesting than the…

At least that was my thoughts after checking out the description Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut THIS IS such a boring ♥♥♥♥, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ then possible, if it was longer it would bore me to death. No realyy, one of the most unimpressive, unengaging stories that I ever read, and there was a lot of boring stories main character is pathetic, empty, there no backbone, no character, even no AI flavor in the MC Characters cast are…

I find myself charmed by this game, even as I acknowledge its shortcomings: the crew members you pick up have well-defined colorful personalities and backstories, but they take a backseat to your own…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short little game, cute story and very fun characters. Makes me want to play a space ttrpg with my friends!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Witty, light, and frothy despite the subject matter! I enjoyed all the little quests on the planets and the crew members are a lot of fun. Lot of comments made on the length and ease. I'm not sure how well the game works if it's twice as long or five times as hard, but it did look like I'd seen most of the planets and quests in one playthrough. There's no real reason not to do all planet quests simultaneously once you have enough crew, and a good chunk of the planets are defined by the plot.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Long Journey to an Uncertain End is a great story-driven adventure with compelling characters and an unmistakably unique narrative and view. I have long waited to be able to play the game, and so far the developers have really exceeded my expectations. I feel that the game is a interesting mix between resource management, story-driven narrative, and almost a "FTL" style event-based pacing. (By this, I mean that you have to conserve resources that you earn between "jump" points, where when…

You are a sentient spaceship who is on the run from an abusive ex, traveling from one system to the next picking up crew and doing odd jobs. Each person you pick up and each job you do gives you a bit more of the backstory, and then at the end you get to pick how the story will close out, cue cutscene and roll credits.
