Bigger = Better? Well, if you played the first Grimrock, it's more of the same. More dungeons, more monsters, more items, more puzzles. ALSO More problems, more balancing issues, more disgustingly obscure puzzles that try your patience. It also runs significantly worse than the first one, with long save and load times and much lower framerate. I must admit, I did not finish Grimrock II. I felt worn out after …

Did you know that after making The Legend Of Grimrock 2, that team produced an excellent turn-based tactics game that riffs off both D&D & Final Fantasy? You probably don't, because it failed to sell much. Which sucks, as it's gorgeous, fun, challenging and replayable. More tactical puzzle than RPG

This is the golden standard in Eye of the Beholder-likes. It's simply THE best real-time dungeon crawler there is, and so far has ever been. Which is why I got very curious why such a respected and revered, not to mention over a decade old, game suddenly finds itself at "mixed" reviews...? The answer is apparently "English reviews: Very positive." This game is simply a joy for everyone, young and old, and can absolutely handle a replay or two. I had my ups and downs with Grimrock 2, but overall it really got its hooks into me. There's something very refreshing about an RPG that presents a big, mysterious world to explore without beating you over the head with lore and exposition. It makes the whole place feel much more organic and enigmatic, which makes exploring far more compelling. Your mileage with it, though, is going to depend on how you feel about its 'old school' rough edges. At times I found some of these things incredibly…

The game is a very good sequel to the first game. A huge number of things have been improved and expanded. The game is quite difficult, with an "old school" feel. Four tips: 1) If the map doesn't launch, add compatibility mode. 2) If saves sometimes crash, there's a 2GB to 4GB fix online. 3) When you start playing, having a character with Concentration 1 and Water Magic 1 (the requirements for Dispel) will save you a lot of trouble with elementals. 4) After finishing the base game, the…

Legend of Grimrock 2 is the AD&D version of Legend of Grimrock, which is D&D. I was too young to fully embrace AD&D when it was released, so I like the more simplified version. Aspects of Might & Magic plus Sword of Vermillion and like games from that era that I loved, but over complicated puzzles and back-tracking. I'm sure that some people will love this, but I don't. The first iteration was better for me.

Things I like: - You can goombastomp bosses and kill them in one shot. - You can kite and square-strafe (that's my own invention that's an alternative of the circle-strafe) enemies if you time it right and you move fast enough. - Enemies rarely respawn (except those mosquitoes, which respawn as soon as you leave). The ones that do are the turtles (they give food, so that's good) and at a certain point one map with be swarming with rats if you did a certain thing. - You don't need to find…

There's a lot to like about this game. The world is like one vast mega dungeon to crawl through tile by tile. You get to set up your party composition, learn new spells, craft new potions, etc. The reason I could not get into this game is that the combat feels very strange. The combat consists of you clicking on all four of your characters' attacks as fast as you can and then stepping away from being in range of enemy attacks. In my first 2 hours of playing I encountered 6 enemy types and 1…

I loved the first game for it's simplicity, the second one however - really feels like a slog, Lots of monster closets of spongey enemies, what particularly made me rage quit and write this review was being completely cornered in an area by an entire legion of green blobs that just don't die and it took me forever to save/load my way out of it. Wade through one area and on to the next, slowly starving to death - I'm done.

Never really felt a sense of exploration or adventure. It mostly felt like "walk ten steps now deal with this tiresome puzzle" over and over again. Team building is pretty basic, combat is old school in all the worst ways (and absurdly simplistic) and the day after picking it up I'd completely forgotten it was even in my library. That being said, if what you want is basically a straight-up puzzle game broken up with fighting, then you might actually enjoy this. But if you're looking for an…

Currently my favorite grid style dungeon crawler series since I played it, this second one being much more varied and bigger in scope than the first. A lot of this style of game can get to feeling very repetitive but this game does a lot to hold your interest, especially the excellent RPG and loot system where just about everything you find is unique and hidden behind challenges that test your skill and brains instead of forced grinding. There have been many, many games in my time that i've hated or loved, that i've heaped praise upon or scorned to no end, but there are few of which i can only find a few flaws, and Grimrock 2 joins that crowd. ETA: Download the "4 Gb patch" or whatever it is called to solve the crashing problem 100%! A very good classic dungeon crawler, it doesn't get much better than this. Only complaint is the punishing skill system, you need to invest in upgrading exactly one weapon skill per character or you will get steamrolled early on, and there is no respec. As long as you know that, though, everything else is near perfection for this genre.

Look, there's some fun stuff in here, particularly the first half of the game. But based on all the dork-ass 'puzzle' mechanics in the later game, I am not even faintly surprised that there isn't a Grimrock 3. Honestly one of those 'roll the credits at 50% because nothing after this makes any sense and you *will* need a guide' (except that they don't do that, which is... better?)

The designers are too clever by half. Not in a good way. This game is hard. Almost impossibly so. First because the gameplay requires skill. With a perfect party, perfect play, and perfect gear, the mobs will still kill you fast and often. That's okay. Hard is fun. So, why downvote? Because it's designer VS the player, instead of designer WITH the player. Many of puzzles are fun. Interesting. Clever. Rock, paper, scissors, in reverse. That was cute. Then, there's the rest. They couldn't have gotten it more right. As far as dungeon crawlers go, they nailed every aspect - difficulty, pacing, balance, puzzling, lore, length - it's a masterpiece. That said, Grimrock should NOT be played as a grid-based Skyrim. You're encouraged to take your time analyzing new areas and rewarded for finding its secrets. It's a clue-collecting puzzle solver as much as it is an adventure RPG. Rushing to the end will be an unfulfilling experience and you'll inevitably hit frustrating…

Grimrock is like if you took Myst and stapled on some basic combat and RPG elements. Those don't have a ton of depth - but they're fun, and more importantly having them makes getting cool loot from the secrets of tricky optional puzzles feel much more rewarding. Some of the puzzles are a bit hard. Expect to be stumped. Since a lot of them are optional; that's fine. The game is non-linear, and the areas do not scale to your level. What this means is that combat difficulty may be high…

Would love to play some more but the game constantly crashes. Crashed after creating characters, crashed at the first save crystal. Lost all progress both times. Awesome.

An Excellent First Person Dungeon Crawler that masterfully expands upon what "Faster Than Light" began with "Dungeon Master" in 1987. Violence is only half the battle in this Adventure, as Puzzle-Solving and Planning takes a front-seat. Custom content through the included Dungeon Editor allows for massive Replayability (Seriously, go check out the Workshop). The Grid-based Movement style lends a peculiar flow to the genre, and it is certainly not for everyone! A true feast for fans of the…

it is way too hard on normal difficulty. Especially later on. They come up with wiered mechanics like rat swarms. And elementals you cant hit, groups of 4-5 zombies...not fun

Yup, a good example of this kinda thing outside of exploration puzzle games (or puzzle dungeon crawlers like Legend of Grimrock 2) is Rain World but thats ALSO an action ish game. I loved Underrail cuz it tapped into it too but the dev's some type of far righter 💀

what a great adventure. puzzles are very good, and exploration and attention to details is rewarded. one of its kind, and the greatest dungeon crawler since Eye of the Beholder

One of the best dungeon crawlers I have played. Once you finish the main campaign, play The Guardians and The Final Adventure. Custom mods in this game are insane in all the best ways. And in your mean time play with the dungeon creator; it's pretty friendly and you can put something really fun and unique together! 10/10 I love this game <3
