What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 178 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,074 of 1,143 positive).
Players praise Levelhead as a superb platformer and level creator, often comparing it favorably to Super Mario Maker. [1][2][3] Many highlight the robust level-building tools, generous checkpoints, and active community as standout features. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note the game's difficulty spikes and limited level themes as drawbacks. [7][8][9]

An underrated gem. I wasn’t sure I’d like it at first, but I’m glad I was proven wrong. The controls feel tight, and the course elements are impressively detailed with a lot of depth in how you can customize them. My only real complaints are a slight bit of lag when respawning at checkpoints and the limited selection of just four level themes. Edit: After uploading my level and not getting a single play after four …

This game is actually amazing, and its the perfect game for people who want to make platforming challenges, boss battles, or even other games! The technical stuff (switches, "pressure plates", etc.) are quite easy to understand, making the learning curve as kid friendly as possible. If you're more advanced you can learn how to make logic gates, Rubix-cubes, or whatever your mind can dream up (assuming your dream …

It is criminal how unknown this game is. This is probably one of the best platformers I've ever played, up there with Super Mario World and Super Meat Boy IMO. It just feels *really* good to play moment to moment. It gets difficult, but (so far) never tedious thanks to generous checkpoints. The included campaign is impressively varied and chock full of secrets to find. The level creating/sharing aspect clearly has a …

Mario maker, but most things are improved. The marketing department lets people find your level, the death system is quick and respawns you within a second, the editors ui is great, the switch system allows some complex machines, and controlling GR-18 feels very nice, 9/10 game IMO

What Mario Maker Should've Been Look, I love Super Mario Maker 2 as much as the next guy. The problem is however that what we're given to work with is very limited to what Rom Hackers can do with Super Mario World through Lunar Magic. There's still a lot of content that we wish Nintendo would give us, like other enemies, layer 2, proper screen wrap, etc. and yet they hold out on us. What's worse is that there's a …

94% of the 178 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Levelhead. The complaint that keeps coming up: campaign becomes too hard for some players. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It didn't take much time playing to see that this game has excellent gameplay as a framework for designing more levels, and that the levels that come pre-made are excellently designed. I wouldn't normally review a game this early, but I can already tell the quality, plus it's on sale right now. - There are powerups that change the gameplay. - There are hidden collectibles and reason to replay levels for all enemies, all collectibles, and speedrun time. - You can trigger level events from…

neutral · AI labelView post →Amazing game, but after about 10 hours into the campaign I reached a point of impasse. I guess it's just too hard for me, but I had great fun until then.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easily my favorite game of the last 10 years I love games that are a creative outlet for me. And boy is this game perfect for that. The level building is so easy but also quite robust. People have made some awesome stuff. Its so much fun making levels, and such a blast seeing what others have made. highly, highly recommend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2D platformer hater here. This one is quite good. Nearly unlimited levels, so price should be no object. It made me smile. Solid controls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great platform builder, cool community, all around fun game Well I have to amend my review I guess. It quickly advanced to one of my favorite games and definitely my favorite platformer / maker. I stream it all the time, the community is awesome and I'm having the time of my life. Guess that's why I'm at 1000+ hours now lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[Levelhead](https://store.steampowered.com/app/792710/Levelhead/) is a Mario Maker-esque platformer with a huge emphasis on user-made levels and a very powerful level editor. It's not too active right now but there's thousands of awesome levels already made that you can play. The game is dirt cheap, too.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Levelhead is a creative platformer that shines with its level-building tools and endless community-generated content. The campaign is fun and challenging, but the real magic lies in designing and sharing your own levels. It’s perfect for fans of games like Mario Maker who love customization and creativity. Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

neutral · AI labelView post →Just buy it if you can't efford a nintendo switch and super mario maker 2, it is almost as good as the mario game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I usually post ridiculous and painfully unfunny reviews, but this game is a masterclass in platformer game design and it should be celebrated a lot more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is what we all wish Mario Maker would be. For one, even if you don't want to play player made levels, the story mode offers so many levels with plenty of replayability, collectables, and time trials. I spent many hours trying my hardest to beat my previous time, and I rarely pay attention to time trials. The power ups offer a lot of variety. There were platforming levels, speed running levels, puzzle levels, boss rush levels, and combinations of everything. And again that's just the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is unashamedly "we have Super Mario at home", and they really aren't shy about it. That doesn't mean it's bad though, and in fact it is really good. The little robot protagonist guy has lots of personality, the power ups are interesting, and the platforming pulls no punches at all. There is also the possibility to slow down the game, which is probably good for younger players.

neutral · AI labelView post →Mario Maker if it was made by people who cared more about the player experience than the brand. All of the things I hate about the aforementioend platformer are out. All of the things I love about a tight platformer are here. Level creation is very straight forward. My only complaint is that some of the enemy designs are just not to my taste. But it's a very minor thing. I wish the community was even bigger than it is so we got even more levels! So play it and tell your friends about it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a really fun and charming game. :-) as someone who loves anything with a level editor this has been an absolute blast over the years. i've played this since i was very young and i still play it from time to time nowadays. it's such a shame that the game never fully got the praise it should have and therefore a lot of planned features never came to fruition. this game is extremely underrated for the content it brings! and, WOW, that price drop O_O i bought this when it was £15! ($20)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game. Reminds me of Mario Maker with the community levels. Unlimited replayability potential
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than Mario Maker. I know this has been said often, but I don't think there's a higher compliment for a game like this. Don't miss out on this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I only played the offline stuff, didn't bother with community levels so can't comment on those or the level creation mechanics. The game is very okay. Platforming feels fine, and there's quite a bit of variety in terms of mechanics. But it's just not super fun to play, I did about 75% of the levels and I'm not going to bother finishing because I'm just not really having fun. I think the problem is the game tried way too hard to cater to speedrunners, every level even has optional time to…

neutral · AI labelView post →better than mario maker and mario maker 2 combined, well worth its price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its like mario maker but for every platform 9/10 worth the price (5$)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game. Campaign (training mode) is worth cost of admission alone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fantastic game with some unique mechanics and great visuals. some of the community levels are delightfully impressive. it's almost criminal how underrated this game is.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The campaign is great. It introduces everything the game has to offer (which is a LOT) and the optional challenges were fun to do (exploration based and speed run based). Easy enough to recommend on the campaign alone, but there's a wealth of community made content to keep you occupied after that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So underrated, played the game for so long on Switch before deciding to pick it up on Steam. Pick it up if you can, great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LOVE the game and so much content for the price! Was afraid it would be too difficult but the challenge is fair and fun, and with plenty of checkpoints, it's hard to get frustrated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ll be coming at ya with Levelhead All Training Stages (New Game) this time around. This is actually the first time this specific category has been in a marathon, which will be fun.
neutral · AI labelView post →Day 181 of 2025 A few days ago I found a really interesting game on sale in the e-shop. It's a 2D platformer where you can also build and share your own levels and you can play levels online from people around the world. And it's not Mario Maker. It's #Levelhead! So far it's really fun :D

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great platformer, a game style similar to Mario Maker. The platforming itself is really smooth and fast-paced. Plenty of powerups and different enemies and types of levels. The level editor is easy to use, but there's also a ton of depth to it if you want to make an extremely challenging or intricate level. After you publish your level there is a "marketing department" which will promote your level to an official level once people play it enough. The system is really great because as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genuinely such an underrated masterpiece of a game. I have probably accumulated about 500+ hours on this game throughout the platforms I've played on and it never got boring. If your looking into buying this game you 100% should its amazing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game back when it was 20 dollars Though I love this game for the childlike creativity it somehow invokes from me when no other game has kept up, I feel hurt and betrayed that the price would be lowered to a mere quarter of what I bought it for. I expect my 15 dollars back, Butterscotch Shenanigans.
