Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 230 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (33,932 of 36,599 positive).

Looking at all the positive reviews I think I must be missing something here, but the game just feels like a grinding simulator. It wouldn't be too bad if there was more variety between the runs, but most of the time each run is pretty similar. I really like the art style, the concept of bringing the world back, seeing how tiles interact with each other and so on. But in reality the progress seems so slow that …

It's one of those games that hooks you before you even realize it. You don’t actually control the hero, you build the world around them. Every card you place changes the loop, spawns new monsters, or gives bonuses, and somehow it all just clicks. The retro art and eerie soundtrack are perfect for the game’s strange, post-apocalyptic vibe. It’s super satisfying to discover new tile combos, but after a while, runs can …

Took me a couple runs to actually get what was happening, but once it clicked I lost an entire weekend to this game. The idea of building the world around your hero instead of controlling him directly sounds gimmicky on paper but it works really well in practice. Every card placement is a small decision that compounds over time, and you're constantly asking yourself whether you're making the loop harder than you can …

I would recommend this game, but with reservations. I think it does a good job at packaging the typical modern auto-playing grindfest game in a way that seems novel and very cool. At the same time, the game still has the weakness of feeling like "this is all just simply one big materials grind, I'm just repeating the same thing to get my numbers to go up." I kind of wish that you weren't penalized every time you try …

Very interesting almost idle RPG game. Loop Hero is essentially a game where you build the world your character fights through. You don't have much control over your character, instead the game is mostly balancing what you place in their way. Too many obstacles or enemies and they could die before they get far. Too little and your character will be woefully unprepared for the chapter boss. It's quite fun.

Players who liked Loop Hero talk about unique and addictive gameplay loop; those who didn't talk about gameplay becomes grindy and repetitive. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Loop Hero received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. Critics praised the freedom to create unique worlds and the 1980s aesthetic of the game. Ben Kuchera of Polygon praised the experimentation that the looping system allowed. Ian Boudreau of PCGamesN appreciated how the deck-building mechanics allowed the player to constantly vary their playstyle. Evan Lahti, writing for PC Gamer, enjoyed the surprises that different card combinations could create, although he thought the lack of new ones hurt the later game. Sam Machkovech of Ars Technica enjoyed the game's take on the idle genre, and how the player had to make difficult choices about the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried making the camp from Loop Hero in Animal Crossing I love this game so much
positive · AI labelView post →Incomplete game, over 5 years after release date and still there's things you cannot obtain, some of the item slots for your hero are unobtainable from start to finish, some resources take far too long to "grind" to be able to level up and build your camp. The game feels like it's been abandoned by the developers.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Phenomenal game, unfortunately I now have the perfect amount of played hours and all the achievements so I can never play it again, hopefully a bomb ass sequel will occur and I can once again enjoy this game.

neutral · AI labelView post →EVERY SINGLE BOSS IS A GIMMICK. LOOK UP WHAT THE GIMMICK IS ON THE WIKI EVERY TIME SO YOU DONT WASTE 20 MINUTES OF GAMEPLAY. It's INSANE that you can be absolutely demolishing the regular enemies and then suddenly you find out that this boss is specifically weak to a SINGLE STAT that you could not POSSIBLY have known before hand, and I have to assume this is intentional to make sure you lose a certain amount of times to justify the price tag. It's an incredibly easy game with too much rng.

positive · AI labelView post →Ball X Pit is a great podcast game in the vein of Loop Hero. More interaction than that, but balls go bounce whoooo. Found it to be a bit of a grind in the long run and it stopped me from unlocking the very cool sounding late characters, but it’s neat!

neutral · AI labelView post →This is my second time playing this (first was on Xbox), and I got to the exact same point I did the first time; it's eventually just a grind. I love the concept of the game, but eventually it's just "I need to grind a bunch of loops in order to unlock things for the boss". There's just not enough depth to it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very unique, laid-back yet engaging game. Read more if interested. Loop hero has you go on expeditions to try to recover the world from the void that engulfed it. It features some of the most unique pixel art I've seen, really leaning into a 90's dark fantasy style. As you go on expeditions, you collect resources to grow your home camp. While on an expedition, your character fights monsters automatically. The only actions you take as the player are placing terrain cards you get from enemies,…

positive · AI labelView post →I love* how my brain will see a random post, and just randomly have a whole-ass TTRPG/board game idea, like what if a game was based entirely around the tile/map creating aspect of Legend of Mana/Loop Hero *actually love but also like, dude, I have too many half-finished ideas already.

neutral · AI labelView post →Great atmosphere through the art and music, the story is not great but serviceable. Unfortunately the gameplay aspect feels kind of brain dead, as in you can tune out through most of it and do fine. Two weeks from now I probably forget what I even did here.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game starts slow but the game is highly interesting and incites curiosity to keep playing. However after eight buildings and three classes unlocked, the progression is still slow. You have to have magically long life and patience of a lich to keep playing the game. The art is gorgeous and the music is quite memorable and yet the crushing grind is unbearable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't get the hype, it is an autobattler deckbuilder with grindy metaprogression. Looks bland and uninspiring with its disgusting gamma. Played for half an hour and not gonna come back ever.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Time-intensive grind. But there isn't much one could adapt to. Once you have found your "building placement," it's a rather brainless loop. You could say you want to progress, just for the progression and to see the story end, but the mechanics don't really develop with it. I do like the humor that can be found in the little chats you will have throughout the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ball X Pit- Another case where mixing a roguelike with other genres clicks and makes for an incredibly addictive game. A vertical scrolling shooter with Breakout elements and city building between with an eerie vibe similar to Loop Hero. Another fantastic soundtrack as well

neutral · AI labelView post →In spite of this game having absolutely fantastic art, the gameplay is painfully slow and uninteresting. You need to constantly micromanage your character's equipment so you can't really even look away, but I never felt like I had a whole lot of control over how things turned out anyway. There may be things I didn't reach yet or failed to understand, but having played 14 hours without these feelings being swayed, I don't think it's too unfair to say I tried to give it an honest chance and…

positive · AI labelView post →solid ~30-40 hour timesink. You’re tuning enemy density, scaling, and build synergies yourself, balancing pressure and payoff, then deciding how far to push before pulling out alive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A unique and surprisingly deep roguelite. There's not really anything quite like it. The artstyle and aesthetic is really cool. The story is about as good as you an expect from a game like this. Your hero makes his way around the path on his own, autobattling enemies as he encounters them. You play cards from your deck to develop the landscape which allows you to build stats, encounter new types of enemies and/or collect gear & resources. You can equip increasingly better gear onto your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's simply not enough card synergies here to provide sufficient depth or strategy to make this game worth playing. What's here is just shallow and grindy. Edit: I have more than the 27 hours of play time listed here offline.

positive · AI labelView post →I started FTL for the first time a few days ago and it's hard to put down. You look at screenshots and it doesn't look too interesting, but it's well-designed and clearly very polished. Even though the gameplay mechanics are quite different, Loop Hero feels spiritually very similar to me.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love, love this game. I wish they would make a sequel. I have 100% on xbox, the game is not "broken" or unplayable. Far from it! It's very, very grindy, not super clear on objectives, and difficult at times. I love the grind though, the story was interesting, the system itself is super cool. It felt really rewarding to finally beat it 100%. If you like to take your time and enjoy an interesting game, Devolver delivers again. <3
