Some reviewers note repetitive open-world tasks and a disappointing ending. [1][2]

An ending so bad i have to write a review about it 10 years later just to make myself feel better. I am so glad i decided to push towards the end after act 3 and stop doing most side content because ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ does the last 2 acts of this game completely ruin anything it couldve been. The combat is fine for the most part its the batman arkham game mash combos parry though i felt like the parry system was just eating …

Mad Max is one of the most underrated games ever made, and I genuinely don’t understand how more people aren’t talking about how incredible it is. Every time I jump into the wasteland, I’m blown away by how immersive and atmospheric the world feels. The car combat is some of the best I’ve ever experienced (fast, brutal, and insanely satisfying) and the Magnum Opus truly feels like my machine, shaped by every …

An absolute masterpiece that flew under the radar for too long. The vehicular combat is top-tier, the hand-to-hand combat is bone-crunchingly satisfying, and the atmosphere is incredible. If you are going for 100% achievements, buckle up—it is a massive, rewarding journey. Highly recommend! ---{ Graphics }--- ☐ Masterpiece ☑ Beautiful (The wasteland storms and explosions look incredible) ☐ Good ☐ Decent ☐ Bad ☐ …

I really hated the first 30 minutes of this game. It felt slow, bland, and I genuinely thought I had wasted my money. Then I got my own rig. And suddenly I understood everything. Mad Max basically became WB's version of Deus Ex for me. Remove the cyberpunk, replace it with a dying wasteland, add gasoline, spikes, V8 engines and people screaming while hanging off your car. After that opening, I loved pretty much …

Mad Max has the best vehicular combat in any open world game I have played thus far. It is chaotic, action fueled and filled to the brim with explosions and charred carcasses strewn across the post-apocalyptic wasteland. The plot is not exactly the game's strong point, but it does teach us that life is often painful and disappointing and that fairy tale endings are not as common as one would like. I highly recommend …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Mad Max received "mixed or average" reviews from critics, according to review aggregator Metacritic. George Miller said in a 2024 interview that the game "wasn't as good as" how he wanted it to be. Retrospectively, the game was considered to be "underrated". Its story received a mixed response. Brandin Tyrrel of IGN found the story surprising and genuine, despite most of the action occurring later in the game. Tyrrel wrote that the characters have different personalities and distinct qualities, and considered them the "true star" of the game. According to Chris Carter of Destructoid, the game's story engages the player. Leon Hurley of GamesRadar found the overall story weak and "barely…

Hard to believe it’s been a decade. Incredible game despite it all.
positive · AI labelView post →(the Great Games Recommendation Thread, part 2): 101) Mad Max. An absolute 7/10 game, a prequel to Fury World that nobody's going to remember as a classic but is plenty of fun, mixing driving combat with third-person action when you raid bases and such, and some neat weird NPCs.

positive · AI labelView post →Post a fav game that got a 75 or less on Metacritic. Mad Max. Understandable why, given it is creaking under much of the open world game design of the era and the on-foot stuff is serviceable. But the car combat and customisation is still great stuff, and you can get into a satisfying loop with it.

neutral · AI labelView post →Mad Max slowly turned into one of those games where I’d get into the car to drive somewhere and end up completely forgetting where I was going. The desert has this strange rhythm where nothing happens for a while and then suddenly you're chasing a convoy across half the map, engines screaming, scrap flying everywhere and half the road turning into wrecks. I kept telling myself I’d head back to the objective after the fight, but every time something new appeared on the horizon the plan changed…

neutral · AI labelView post →Honest review: Just a guy in love with his car, but has a bit of a temper problem. I'd give this game a 6/10. Story is actually not bad, it follows one decently enough. There could've been some improvements but all in all I liked it. If you like collecting cars, you'll enjoy this. Unfortunately you can only upgrade one of them, but there is many ways to do so. Physics of driving is entertaining. If you like Easter Egg hunting, you'll like this open world. There is plenty of…

positive · AI labelView post →PSA: Avalanche's superb and severely underrated Mad Max video game currently has a 90% discount on Steam. positive · AI labelView post →🔥 **Mad Max – A Brutal Journey Through the Wasteland** Mad Max is an incredible open-world action game that delivers a raw, intense post-apocalyptic experience. Its brutal vehicle combat, explosive action, and unforgiving wasteland create an atmosphere that keeps you immersed from beginning to end. Customizing the Magnum Opus, upgrading your weapons, fighting dangerous enemies, and exploring the vast desert are some of the game's biggest highlights. The hand-to-hand combat is satisfying, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mad Max (2015) in 2026, and I can honestly say it's still an old but gold game. The graphics, action, and gameplay are amazing, especially considering its age. Some of the cutscenes don't feel as smooth by today's standards, but that's completely understandable for a game released in 2015. The game is a bit grindy, and it might feel repetitive at the beginning. However, if you stick with it and keep progressing, the overall experience becomes much more enjoyable and rewarding. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They don't make them like this anymore. Memorable characters, good voice acting, and a decent story make for one of the last great open world triple A titles uncorrupted by modern game development. Sure, the game suffers somewhat from the usual open world repetitive tasks. But, if you can look past that, it's a very immersive world which captures what Mad Max is all about. I regret taking so long to finally play the game, and even more disappointed to discover there were rumours about…

neutral · AI labelView post →Overall: 8.5/10 Story: I'm personally a fan of Mad Max as an IP, so I'll be the first to say I'm slightly bias, but I think the narrative is alright at its core since the story is basically just about a dude trying to get his car back and kill the people who stole it. That's obviously an oversimplification, but it gets the general premise across. Unfortunately though, that simplification also glosses over a lot of the narrative's biggest shortcomings. Ignoring my gripes with certain story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Whoa! Exceptional Car Combat. On foot raids featuring exceptional hand to hand combat accented by melee weapons and shotgun. Visciously brutal kill animations. Seriously good explosions. Limited RPG progression though it's there and meaningful. Game has a lot of open world filler: Avoid scavenger sites without meaningful…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is like the last game they made before microtransaction stores, wood collection, resource type and icon overload in open world games. As Ghost of Tsushima collated all open world mechanics for the 20s, Mad Max did it for the state of gamemaking in 2013. You have bright yellow paint, ubitowers, camp scouting, camp clearing as well as Batman/Shadows of Mordor combat (which also explains why this sits at 70 in open critic, it just had the same stuff all the games had). But the strong points…

The hand to hand "free flow" fighting is simple but extremely satisfying.
