What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 170 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (2,325 of 3,469 positive).
Many players say the Infinite & Beyond mod greatly improves the game. [1][2][3] Some reviewers recommend buying the game on sale. [4][5][6] A few players criticize the base game's roster and visuals. [7][8][9]

No, nuh-uh. A pared-down (and largely unpopular) roster, bizarre plotline, weird character design choices, and some 41 DLC packages? This game is a matryoshka of cash grabs that, even all pulled together, only make for a modern--but not particularly good--fighting game. I've played probably too many fighting games over the years (many on console or in the arcades), and this was one of the most disappointing of the …

Recommendable with the Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond mod, released late 2024. The MCU is offensively shoehorned into the game, but MVCIB represents a redemption for the title. Great work by Max and the Team to revamp the series' most soulless iteration.

Bought this game for a very specific reason: To ragebait my girlfriend. That’s it. That’s the main use case. Whenever I’m bored, I boot this up, pick the most annoying team possible, spam combos, and watch her slowly lose her mind sitting next to me on the couch. Is it the best Marvel vs Capcom game? Probably not. Is it a great tool for starting playful arguments? Absolutely. 10/10 would ragebait again.

I recommend buying this on sale. The experience reminded me of the kind of game I would rent for a weekend then be done with. I spent 4 hours give or take playing through the story mode, completing all the generic tutorial challenges, and fiddling with settings and arcade mode. I don't have much more motivation to play it single player. While I imagine this game being fun in multiplayer, at 58 GB it's hard to …

78% of the 170 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The complaint that keeps coming up: base game has a pared-down roster. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
In pre-release coverage, Infinite's departure from some of the series' long-standing gameplay mechanics, namely three-on-three battles and character assist moves, for the sake of accessibility was met with mixed reception. Suriel Vazquez of Game Informer and Wesley Yin-Poole of Eurogamer stated that Infinite could end up being a divisive game, especially to the hardcore audience, since both mechanics had defined the Marvel vs. Capcom series for nearly two decades. The issue was mirrored by IGN's Daniel Krupa, who mentioned that the shifts in the series' formula could lead to a feeling among fans that their game was being "diluted" for newer players. Vazquez and Krupa, however, appreciated…

positive · AI labelView post →Been seeing people use "When's Marvel" devoid of context (i.e. about MCU or Rivals), so here's a little history lesson. The "Marvel" in "When's Marvel" is short for Marvel Vs. CAPCOM. Because in places where that game was popular, Marvel was always short for Marvel Vs. CAPCOM. Not comics or movies.

While there were no stories quite like Hayao and "Evo Moment 38" this year, there were still plenty of great tournaments to be had. I'm quite partial to Guilty Gear Strive, and top 8, as usual, was full of inventive uses of the game's systems and characters to come up with clever plays that surprise even the likes of me, with hundreds of hours in the game. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had its largest tournament to date, and Capcom vs. SNK 2 was…

neutral · AI labelView post →I get the nostalgia for simpler times, but fighting games have benefited so much from the fact that they can now be patched and updated over the internet. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had 56 characters, but ~6 of them were so strong that they rendered the rest of the roster nearly unplayable in comparison. And this is one of the games that was most fondly remembered! For every hit like that there were a dozen more that were so much worse they were quickly abandoned and forgotten. For all the…

positive · AI labelView post →If you haven't played a AAA game in over 14 years, then you might be surprised to find out that it happens all the time. Marvel 3 did upset its fans with its business model though. They put out "Ultimate" Marvel vs. Capcom 3 a year later, for like $40, and it pissed a lot of people off. So the cash shop wasn't in the game, but it still had that sour taste for a lot of folks. The reality is that making a fighting game is not going to result in the best version of that game on the first try,…

neutral · AI labelView post →I like the fact that there are games that are still best played on the Dreamcast, or only played on the Dreamcast, since there was no follow-up console after it, or because the ports were not great. Today there's always a remaster, backwards compatibility with the next console, or at the very least a sequel, so games just move along with the hardware. But the Dreamcast had some games that just lived and died on that system. Weirdly, most of these turned out to be fighting games. Probably…
