What people are saying
Split: praised for deep mech customization, criticized for poor combat and story.
Players agree the game excels at mech customization, calling it 'the best Gundam kit in the world' and praising its depth. However, many note that combat is 'not good and very janky' or 'boring,' and the story is often dismissed as uninteresting. [1][5][12]
Some players also criticize the developers' communication and broken promises, with one alleging 'the developers have not sent out physical backer rewards' and another calling the game 'half baked.' A few compare it unfavorably to Armored Core 6. [25][31][7]

Critics, per Wikipedia
On its release, MASS Builder was met with "positive" reviews from critics. BagoGames write that, "While the opening sequence of M.A.S.S. Builder's is a bit cliché, it has a good premise. It immediately grounds the player into a story befitting for Mecha games. Also, the in-game world is somewhat compelling and rich with information to immerse yourself in.

60 of 208 · most liked firstLet me start by saying I've very much enjoyed this game. (I mean, I've played 510 hours, lol.) It has some of the best customization I've seen for a mecha game. One of its greatest features by far, is the separation of looks from stats. No clown-suiting, like in so many other games. How it looks vs how it performs is up to you. It's gameplay is enjoyable, in my opinion. However, do not expect this game to play like Armored Core. It's more of a horde/arcade battler. You can create a variety of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to love this game more because the customisation and building aspects are so fun and after the inital hurdle that is the UI design it can become an easy system to use. BUT MY GOD DOES THE GAMEPLAY SUCK. The combat is fun and playable with the melee weapons feeling very solid. but the story and missions feel as interesting as cardboard, and the bossfights are glorified bullet sponges with about 3 attacks each. Once you finish spending actual minutes wailing on the boss and finish a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am only recommending this game to those who like building model kits and mech customization. The combat is not good and very janky but the amount of customization you can make in a mech is very satisfying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great for building a dream mecha, but otherwise it really sucks. I wish it was better, but like it's not. Content outside of the building and customization is half serviceable at best. Not worth buying unless you're truly okay with a mediocre game wrapped around the best custom mech designer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this is a promissing game and I had some fun, there was some un-fun moments.. After the AMA, the devs promissed updates (dev notes on their works).. even after a grace period, its been over 6 months in absolute silence.. Also considering their rude reply to their own AMA as a resounding "no, we are changing nothing".. I have to not recomend this game - a review to update latter if the devs ever break their silence with good words. my peeves: - The (lack of) Lock-on latency.. a thin post…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Left this alone for a while waiting for full release to see if it has fixed my main issue with it... and despite calling it a full release it hasn't. It's basically fantastic for virtual model building - but the game-play is incredibly poor. The main reason for this is that the controls are both overly complex for a relatively small set of actions, and inflexible. For instance, you have a melee button and a shoot ranged weapon button. So far, so normal. So why do they do nothing while…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so good... well, only when it comes to customization. Building and customizing your own mech is genuinely awesome. It really feels like you're creating your own machine to go kick some alien ass, and honestly, I spent way too much time messing around with different builds. But then there's the actual gameplay. Oh my god, the gameplay sucks. It's repetitive as hell, the story missions are a complete snoozefest, and most bosses feel less like bosses and more like target practice.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The developers have not sent out physical backer rewards after the full 1.0 release, as they had promised, and have ignored requests for updates.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT: A recent AMA from the developers actually angered me enough that I wish I could return the game (I bought it a very long time ago when it was still EA). The statement that "Locking On can't move between targets because of PVP design" is infuriating. Basic gameplay mechanics should never be designed for PVP first, especially with terrible, janky, unpleasant-to-work-with netcode. You should always assume that the PVP crowd will be smaller than the PVE or co-op crowd. Always. And Dark Souls…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has been in development for about 7 years now and not only have they not added the 2 new frames I bought the game for like 5 years ago they really haven't added much at all. On top of this they just did a QA where they just answered like 80 questions with "NO" effectively and made stupid excuses for them. I've seen games made by 2 people add more in a year than these guys have in 7!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An amazing customisation suite, in a frankly dogsh*t video game. I bought this years ago with the hopes it'd improve but it really hasn't, and the dev's attitude ain't great either. If you wanna make gundam style mechs and take photos? Great. Anything else? Don't bother.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →as of right now? no, i would not recommend, i bought this game to play with friends but the multiplayer is broken and according to the steam forums, it has been for some time. if you want to play a mech game with friends? its in another castle
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this game years ago on early access. Didn't think much of it. Wanted to let it cook. Of course it would be "missing features" or just feel unfinished. It's now 2026 and I reinstalled the game to try it out. Only good thing? Very indepth mech customization when it comes to appearance. Music is whatever, visuals are whatever, little anime waifus in the basic cutscenes are whatever. Negatives? The actual gameplay. So we'll have to compare this to Armored Core 6, because that's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Forced "full release". It's just so half baked. Not worth the price or the wait.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shut up, shut up, shut uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup! No one in this game ever shuts up! I feel like the Grinch, "noise, noise, noise!"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At this point I'm pretty sure this game will never be finished. Another lesson in "never buy an Early Access game". Buy Armored Core 6 and never look back.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story barely means anything. Gameplay is boring. This is less mech building and more mech dress-up. I like mech games because I enjoy tweaking and tinkering with mech loadouts and this does not scratch that itch.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a mech customisation game first and everything else second. If you really like designing mechs, and its on sale, get it. if you want any semblance of interesting characters or worldbuilding this aint it chief. That being said, the combat isnt that great but its enough to be turn your brain off enjoyable. Would love a full customisation mode with all parts unlocked from the beginning
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wish I never kickstarted this mess, broken promises, minimal to no updates, ah well lesson learned.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good game. But it is just not popular. This title has done something that many other titles failed to do. Give you access to a great deal of customization that allows you to create fan made versions of mecha from popular media, be it animated or just drawn. You can also create the weaponry for these mecha and you can use them all to fight enemies in the world of the game. The combat for this game is its biggest negative, as the movement of the mecha fells as heavy as it should but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mech designer part is truly unmatched, but the gameplay just isn't that fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just meh its partially a visual novel which I did not want in this game and combat level on a mobile game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get me wrong, i like the game, but the combat system is mediocre at best, the story would be better if it didn't exist, And the variety of what you can actually do with the weapons is nowhere near what it seems. This game needs a gameplay revamp and more variety in its weapon behaviors. The ability to swap support weapons for back weapons or double down on a specific kind of support weapon would also allow for much more variety alone. The gameplay plays like a 2008 gatcha game, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hate that the devs abandoned this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has FANTASTIC POTENTIAL only to be stuck behind meaningless updates, and multiplayer that seems like the only reason this game has been in development for SIX years, theres still not much story. The customization is great though! Its just that there isnt much to do.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →basically abandonware but they show up every once in a while to make "announcements" just so it doesn't get marked as such. even their Discord is lacking and they get mad if you have any criticism or questions which is concerning considering it's their only way of communicating. if they ever give the updates they promised, I'll change this to positive. update, they've released at least 10 visual novels since the last update to this game and a full action fighting game that's borderline…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →kind of feels unfinished and abandoned, released minimal viable product.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy this right now, abandonware with a ton of bugs. Save your money for something else.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to build a mech, buy it. if you want great combat with the build aspect, look elsewhere. Mainly a summary of what most people say when they can't recommend it. I agree. when you get into the game further than about an hour trying to get into the game play and progression instead of the building, the game lacks. If i have to play like a pro on normal mode to get through the story, I very certain the game isn't set up right. all in all, I guess, why not, its decent. All the mediocre…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now it's finally complete and I've fully played it I think now's a good time to do a review, M.A.S.S is a game that for all the time in the making might seem like not all that much but it has some outstanding customisation in terms of mecha building, there are enough missions and some are decently fun enough but with a let down of a final boss not in terms of design but in how intentionally underpowered the devs make you for some reason (unless it was a glitch because Q did not work) that said…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has been early access since 2019, Not worth the price to play unless you like playing dress up. after about 5 missions the only choice is to customize the mech, Or grind the 5 missions but after you have played the mission twice it is very boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They are sit in the game for too long without news, multiplayer is bugged.... It's sad but it's better to Buy AC6 and install mods for multiplayer Coop...... Far better
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best Gundam kit in the world, and it comes with a free game! Is the game good? Uhhh...no? Guns are really bad compared to melee, which makes combat feel same-y, and combat is pretty much either arenas of lots of little guys or one big guy with a group of jobbers as a boss enemy. I understand that this is a small team, but the main draw really is speedrunning the game portion so you can build the coolest-looking mech that you've ever wanted. As a package deal? 7/10, wait for a sale…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →im remaking my review because i was expressing some frustrations and i dont want to just say my negative opinions but also my positives and what i would do to fix it. i still would not recommend this game sadly because as a game it has too many issues, but ill go into those later. for now im going to just work my way down from customization and then gameplay. also the story is fine, its simple enough to follow, its not complex and it doesnt need to be. customization of your mech is the games…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me start with a recommendation — If you love mechs and want full control over how they look, this game might be for you. You can tweak every visual detail and really make your dream mech. Now, why the negative review? Because this clunky piece of junk is driving me insane. Everything is just visual. Parts look cool, but they do nothing for gameplay. All the actual performance upgrades are in the skill tree. Got huge boosters? Doesn’t matter — they work the same as the tiny ones.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels cool but needs work. Especially UI and descriptions. - menus in menus - custom styles not shared between parts (and there is a lot of them) - I would love to see a feature to save certain customisation options to move to other frames Could adapt a few things from Armored Core Armor customisation optins feel like made for proffesional 3D artists- not for general player. It gives a lot of options and possibilities.. IF U KNOW HOW TO DO IT with a very complex and bloated with many…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a real shame but I can't recommend this game as what it advertises. If you're looking for a gunpla building simulator this game is decent with some annoyance in unlocking parts. How do you know when you will start making progress towards that one part that looks cool? No clue and I don't know if the game ever tells you. Some parts look really cool others look like they took exactly 10 seconds to make in Blender but the building options are great in general. The problem is with "M.A.S.S.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I read all negative reviews and made a List: - Ai seams to be to stupid and not challenging - small masses of enemys are seen as annoying when you fight a boss, most players feel like its not a boss fight and more like a scam - that Customization is just for show and parts that represent weapons, shields, swords and so on, cant be used ingame as real tools is confusion for players - melee animation for fighting is to slow compared to the rest of the game - even if boss enemys have predictable…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has an awesome concept, cool designs, and incredible customization. Unfortunately, it's also incredibly poorly made, the controls feel awful and incomplete (even for an early access game), the combat is broken and inconsistent, the targeting system is beyond terrible and pretty much never works, and the mission loop is painfully simple and leaves much to be desired. For a game that's been in development for almost 6 years, it's honestly ridiculous that the game still feels like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mech customization: good Combat: trash Overall: You spent your time to build a nice mech but you cant test it as the combat sucks
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The building itself is fantastic issue is: its surface level at best. theres a million parts that all and all do very little to actually change anything with your mech. The combat is boring, repetitive, uninspired, and horribly balanced to the point that many builds are entirely pushed out by certain bosses. In its current state the games at best a mech fashion show at worst a janky tech demo
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Sorry bud, best keep looking Unfortunately, as others mentioned this isn't a very fun game. For reference, I bought this hoping for a fun entry into Mech games. Combat is slow and awkward. PVE already got stale by the third group encounter. The camera will snap left and right of your mech depending on the direction you're strafing while you aim. If you like to typically go side to side while firing, it's a literal headache with no setting to change it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is practically still in Early Access. Very buggy, unstable, with constant glitches being added along with a slow pipeline of content. I will be frank, I've had the game for years, got near the end of the story, the game crashed and deleted all of my save data after their "1.0 Out Of Early Access" Update. It hasn't changed enough since 2021.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I backed this game for a long time, and was hoping that at some point it would at least vaguely resemble a good game. It does not. This game is just not fun by any measure. It's a model building sim with some horrendously boring and tedious 'game' tacked on.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game barely functions. Multiplayer does not work at all, despite having several missions in that mode. The building is nice but combat is done so much poorer compared to contemporaries. Unfortunately I have to give this a thumbs down because it is just not good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this game under the pretense of playing with friends but the multiplayer doesn't work. Devs haven't answered to any bug reports in over a year. God tier builder but don't expect anything past that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →mech customization it cool and thats obviously where the devs time went, combat is bad, enemies have extremely stupid AI and just spam attacks, bosses also just spam AOE attacks like nobody bothered playtesting it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You know I'm really amazed with people customizing their own Mechas in video game. When you get that freedom of making your character, sometimes it gets a little bit creative. In M.A.S.S Builder by Vermillion Digital (Thailand), some players create their own humannoid mechas
neutral · AI labelView post →It was fun... for the first 3 hours. And while building your own mech is still cool, gameplay is mid, while the story... is confusing. On top of that, this feels like the game was abandoned, no real updates in almost a year as of now. On top of that, the price tag is kind of high for this game. Its $25 USD last I looked, if this was a $10 game, THEN I would give it a thumbs up. BUT, that is not the case. I'll keep an eyes on it in case of more updates, but as now, uninstalling to make…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool mech game, but Armored Core this isn't as the gameplay is far more mindless. Mech building is very detailed, but overcomplicated. You can decorate every detail of the mech, but you have to do it manually. While you can paint all parts at once, if you want to paint maybe 3 or 4 specific parts, you gotta do one by one. Some decor is hard to do because it uses position/rotation sliders that are relevant to the part instead of global position. So you have to fiddle with 2 different dimensions…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its not the worst game im just saying armored core 6 exists
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This.. Is not worthy of a 1.0 . This is Jank. Sure you have customization and such but.. the Battle.. good lord.. That was what I'd expect in early beta gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to recommend this game. I really REALLY DO. but I really can't. Between the lack of a clear development timeline and deadlines for content release and just a lack of depth in content both combat and story related and calling increased health pools balance I just can't. This game despite being in 1.0 still feels like a beta through and through And I don't see it changing anytime soon. I will give credit where it's due 26ish USD with tax is a perfect price for what you get and it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The customization is very deep. If you are looking for a game in which you can build and pose mechs, then this will suffice. If you have the desire for a game in which you can pilot a mech with satisfying or fun combat. It will not suffice.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giving this a thumbs down for being terribly misleading. tl;dr at the end if you're skimming. When they say 'build a robot' and 'tons of parts' they mean, cosmetically make absolutely sick looking robots with so much customizability in terms of picking, painting, and clipping bits and bobs to make whatever designs you want. Creativity is the limit. And while a bit obtuse, it's a pretty low learning curve for using and manipulating the designer. As for the rest of the game... well, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mech building - 9/10 Dialog - Like sandpaper on my brain. The exposition dumping and writing style in general are so dry and the game expects you to read paragraph after paragraph. By the time I got to the mech customization screen my eyes had glazed over so I couldn't read how to actually customize my parts and colors.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The mech building part of this game is a lot of fun. Tons of parts to mix and match. Almost everything else about the game is utter trash. The servers barely function, the combat is unbalanced and repetitive, you need to grind an unreasonable amount to unlock all the parts for the mechs, and almost none of the mechanics are explained. If you really want a mech building game, you could do worse, but don't expect much more than that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great level of customisation but, most parts do pretty much nothing and are completely cosmetic, the gameplay feels a little janky and slow, and without doing anything out of the ordinary there was a bug that let me buy upgrades at no cost which kills the progression that makes games like these fun. there was a lot of potential here and I want these devs to succeed but in the games state I see no reason to play this over any installment in the armoured core franchise. I followed this game from…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Could have been good. who had the idea to have a boss at the early stage with abilities such as (summon previous bosses, regenerating shield, tons of health, endless minions, hard hitting attacks) all that with an in progress aiming system. thanks for the 1 hour of building a mech that does nothing for your stats. an alternative you can play is daemonxmahina. Its similar and much more polished
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL:DR - I recommend the game, BUT... This is a tough review for me to do, so I'll try to be as balanced and fair as I can I enjoyed this game a lot, played it through, have almost every armor and weapon piece in the game, my research is getting up there, I've put a lot of time and effort into this game because I've had a lot of fun playing it and designing my mechs But would I recommend it? Not at full price. The game had roadmaps talking about their plans to keep building on the game, all…
