METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES
Developer KONAMI
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a 2014 action-adventure stealth game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami. It is the eighth main game in the Metal Gear series directed, written, and produced by Hideo Kojima, and serves as a prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which was released the following year. Set in 1975, a few months after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 228 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (15,567 of 18,346 positive).
Players praise the tight gameplay and atmosphere but note it is very short. [1][2][3] Many consider it a paid demo or prologue for The Phantom Pain. [4][5][6] Some recommend buying it bundled with the main game. [7][8][9]

The game itself runs great, plays great, and overall serves as a good tutorial mission for The Phantom Pain, but its just that, a tutorial. There is one location for all the missions, and the actually significant story section can be completed in about an hour or two. I don't think the game shouldn't exist, but I do think it should be free. If you have the extra cash, go for it, but you could probably get all the …

Ground Zeroes feels like Kojima grabbed me by the neck, whispered “watch this,” and then emotionally suplexed me in under two hours (yeah, this game is short, tho. But..pain...). Stealth is peak. Atmosphere is insane. Final cutscene ruined my day in 4K. Short game. Long trauma. Kojima moment.

The most expensive and most glorious paid demo in video game history. You spend two hours playing the main campaign under the pouring rain, and then waste another 40 hours trying to extract prisoners in a jeep just to hear Big Boss say 'Kept you waiting, huh?' in Kiefer Sutherland's voice.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a demo that you pay for. Originally intended to be included in the Phantom Pain, it was stripped out and sold to us for £20 as a way of trying to recoup some of the millions Kojima had spent working on MGS5. At the time it was pretty scummy but a fantastic little window into what we could expect for the main game. Now it's just a fun little game you can get for dirt cheap, play …

While incredibly short, this game is incredibly fun. Announcing whenever i'd hit a 200+ meter headshot or the little "ding ding" whenever you cancel an alert is very satisfying. Having 100% the game a second time now, it gives you a good taste for what phantom pain offers. I will say, I don't think it's worth $20 for the content it offers. Get it on sale or as part of the MGSV:TPP bundle.

Critics, per Wikipedia
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes received "generally favorable" reviews from critics on all platforms except on PlayStation 3 which received "mixed or average" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. GameSpot felt that the new stealth mechanics in Ground Zeroes, such as the replacement of the radar and other indicators with binoculars and radio communication, made its overall gameplay more "immersive" than previous installments, noting that "nothing is simply handed to you, and Ground Zeroes is a far more tense and rewarding experience for it". Its open world format and side missions were also praised for adding a large amount of flexibility and replay value to the…

Hard to believe it’s been a decade. Incredible game despite it all.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who loves Metal Gear, I bought this day one back in the day and felt completely ripped off. I didn’t do my research and had no idea it was basically a glorified tech demo / prologue for what would become MGS V, rather than a full game. At the time, it felt like a bait and switch. Going back to it now, though, I can’t help but enjoy it for what it actually is. For something that’s essentially a short, self contained experience, it’s surprisingly well put together. Kojima was at least…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard to believe it's been 10 years since Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. I marathoned all the MGS games in preparation for it, only for it to end up being probably the most disappointed I've ever been in a video game.
