Moonlighter looks and sounds fantastic—the pixel art, soundtrack, and shopkeeper-meets-dungeoneer premise are genuinely charming. Unfortunately, the novelty wears off fast. The gameplay loop quickly turns into a monotonous grind of looting, selling, and upgrading with little variety. The combat feels frustratingly stiff, hampered by clunky dodge rolls and awkward hitboxes. Worst of all, the shop management is …

The bug that makes the interact button also switch weapons has apparently been present since the game launched (over four years ago). It's absolutely disappointing that such a simple but incredibly frustrating issue has persisted for over four years without being addressed. I had a lot of fun with Moonlighter for quite some time. There's a pretty great reward loop, and while it eventually gets old, it's fun to ransack dungeons and outfit your shop for a while. My biggest problem was that it just kind of sputtered out at the end. The final dungeon, if you can call it that, was a letdown, and I never truly felt rewarded for diligently running and upgrading my shop. Still, Moonlighter was …

Firstly: The fact that the only way to find out how to use the menu on Keyboard and Mouse, being through a random support page on steam WITH THE LOCKED COMMENT OF "WILL NOT FIX", is an asinine decision. If you are going to use a nonstandard key to do menu entry, the least of your job is to tell the player what that key is. Secondly: Trying to follow the games instructions to use a controller instead, my Switch 1 controller will not work. At all. Both my Triggers, instead of doing a dodge roll…

I wanted to like this game, I'm a huge fan of "run shop and do other thing" games like Recettear, but this game just did not deliver for me. The game's dungeons aren't fun, the shopkeeping isn't interesting, and they don't tie together in ways that I find satisfying. Let's start with the combat, since the game itself does the same. Crawling through dungeons is moving from enclosed rectangle to enclosed rectangle and fighting every enemy inside before moving on to the next enclosed rectangle.…

Shoddy console port they refuse to fix for PC.. It has been years and I haven't bothered playing this game for one reason (those 4.8 hrs are just me opening the game and letting it run to collect Steam cards btw). Apparently, adding a proper M+K support in-game is hard, even though you can't help but spam the sequel to the players you never bothered fixing the game for. No I'm not going to buy the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sequel when you can't be bothered to add a proper M+K support for PC gamers for years,…

Combat is samey throughout the whole game. The only real "Challenge" are the DPS/Health checks bosses pose in a poor attempt to gate further game progress. Running the shop gets real stale too, as there's no real nuance in pricing outside of finding the "hotspot" for all the items. That, and how items should be priced is essentially spoiled with the item ledger. Upgrades are linear, and don't spice up the gameplay outside of a few minor buffs and resistances that you can just ignore if you…

Currently there's still a bug where you, randomly, cannot end the day after opening your shop to sell your wares to the locals.. which is kinda the bloody point of this game. After living through what most reviews already mentioned the game is like Legends of Zelda and Binding of Issac gameplay. It's far more charming and the game is satisfying. I got this game during the free sale thing, and I still want a refund for time wasted. I got softlocked because (the game never tells you this) The pendant which you use to exit the dungeon costs in game currency, Which I suppose is fine, until you are stuck in a dungeon with no way out (I did try backtracking to the entrance didn't work either) and you cant sell from your inventory, so you are stuck. I cant even die to leave the dungeon because it spawns you right back inside. 4/10 might come…

Couldn't even get more than 20 minutes into the game total because of how horrible the controls are. Why is DODGE the same button to open a menu if you held it .001 seconds longer? The combat is horrendously stiff, hilariously unfair at times. Enemies will be easy in one room and then swarm your clunky, unresponsive shopkeeper one room later. Inventory managment is a central game mechanic. Yes, the least favorite part of many video games is used as a centralized mechanic here. Enemy tells are very fast, to the point where your only chance at actually dodging enemies is just... trying to foretell what they will do. The pixel art is fantastic, the soundtrack is just…

I felt that Moonlighter had the formula for a really fun roguelike. Only part of the game is dedicated to action dungeon crawling, while the other half is focused on shopkeeping and growing your town. This would have been an easy recipe for success, but unfortunately both sides of gameplay feels incredibly shallow and doesn't follow through meaningfully on either. The game is split into five different dungeons that must be tackled individually, and the gameplay loop becomes incredibly obvious…

I usually enjoy games like Moonlighter. The core loop of diving into dungeons, hauling back loot, selling it in your shop, and steadily getting stronger is right up my alley. On paper, this game should have been a perfect fit for me. And after finally grinding out every achievement, I can confidently say: it was a fight but not the good kind. I played the game with mouse and keyboard and it became pretty clear very quickly that it was designed with only controllers in mind. The controls felt awkward and some key bindings could not be changed in the settings. The first dungeon also felt rather bland and uninspired, while the combat often felt sluggish and unresponsive. The shop system felt more like a chore with a lot of unnecessary micromanagement. Overall, I found the gameplay more frustrating than enjoyable. I can’t recommend it.

Quick dungeon-looter with nice shop twist. Start is a little slow, but things feel very good once you get your first set of armor and a favorite weapon. Family friendly btw, so that's a plus. I'd say worth the price, but you could wait for a sale if you really want. You probably get 15-25hrs of gametime out of it, and then it has replayability if you want harder difficulty or want to master more weapons.
