What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 179 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (5,965 of 8,479 positive).
Players praise the game's brutal tactical challenge and faithful adaptation of the tabletop. [1][2][3] Many highlight the steep learning curve and punishing RNG as core to the experience. [4][5][6] Some reviewers criticize poor design choices, tedious movement, and unfair difficulty. [7][8][9]

Not a very tactically rivetting game but doesnt deserve bad reviews because of the rng of some guy whining he lost a 90% roll. The problem is that the atmosphere is nice but the combat slogs on. And on top of that when 70% of your time is simply just moving the characters between item/warpstone pickups where you have to manually move each character of your massive warband every time singularly, slowly, watch the …

in my opinon. one of the worst games ive ever played. Brutal RNG. you could be on your very first mission, totally surrounded the enemy captain, miss 8 75% chances in row and lose your hero and 1 henchman. far too unfair to be fun in my eyes

I come back to this game so many times because of the pure enjoyment of having a real tactical game with decisions that have to be made for the good of the squad.Sometimes you have to fire your best character you have built due to an injury that destroys all the work you have put into them. My chief complaint is there are only 6 factions when there should be so many more, how i would love a real sequal to this game …

You are going to get VERY upset at times, but if you get a good strategy and a team composition with 6 of your members having permanent injuries from missing 95% hit opportunities AND still winning... you are doing better than most of the player base. It doesn't matter how good you are, your warband is the one that suffers. Afterwards, you suffer mentally after your Warlock with no injuries explodes and permanently …

Ignore all the other negative reviews. The game is Brutal on purpose. And like other reviews other say its a learning curve... You will fail and lose your first few warbands. Then you will slowly get better understand the mechanics better and enjoy the game more. Its brutal on purpose

Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received mixed reviews, gaining an average score of 74/100 on Metacritic. Some reviewers praised the "pleasantly morbid" atmosphere and deep game mechanics as befitting the tabletop original, but the game AI, steep and unforgiving learning curve, and technical issues (particularly user interface and load times) were described as frustrating. Rock, Paper, Shotgun was particularly critical of the "uninspiring", "unexciting" and "languid" combat, calling the game "dumb" and "flawed".

As I remember the game is great fun - I was thoroughly losing until a Daemon randomly turned up and started eating my opponents, so we teamed up to defeat it. #Nerdlings #Mordheim

It did leave me with the impression that I need more residential terrain, so in a fever pitch I whipped this up. #mordheim #warhammer #miniatures

neutral · AI labelView post →Tonight was Mordheim night for me down at the Clubhouse. Tonight's game was against a gang of Chaos Dwarfs, new arrivals in the city. My veteran mercenaries made short work of them, but the disparity between the two warbands meant the Chorfs gained a significant amount of experience.

neutral · AI labelView post →So I found the 26 year old rulebook for Mordheim; not only is it a lot fluffier & way cooler than Warhammer- This game also seem better built for dungeon delving than D&D ever was. As the city is assumed to be enormous, there's no map & you discover random things as you explore deeper.
positive · AI labelView post →People will tell you things like "Mordheim: City of the Damned is: a bad translation of the tabletop game" or "It's janky, and mediocre even when it works" but I will have you know this giant mfer is named Legeater Maw and he wants to make sure you have a bad day
positive · AI labelView post →I went into this hoping for something that captured even a fraction of what makes Mordheim on the tabletop so compelling. Instead, I found a game that misunderstands its own source material at almost every level. Combat has very little depth. Positioning, clever plays, or long term planning barely matter when most encounters boil down to swarming a target in melee and rolling the dice until it collapses. There’s no real sense of tactics just numbers and luck. The AI doesn’t help matters either.…

neutral · AI labelView post →There are just a MASSIVE number of extremely stupid design decisions ruining an otherwise good gamel I cannot recommend it, even with mods that alleviate some of the worst aspects. For instance...the "lockout" zone around your characters shuts off ALL actions..like opening your wagon chest, praying and looting downed enemies. TOTAL NONSENSE. Ive played the table top game and its..not like that at all.
