What people are saying
Overwhelmingly positive; many call it the best Mortal Kombat ever.
Players overwhelmingly praise Mortal Kombat X as the best in the series, highlighting its fast-paced, brutal combat and deep variation system. Many call it the peak of the franchise, with smooth combos and a strong roster that includes well-designed guest characters. [1][3][11][14]
However, some players criticize the steep learning curve, unbalanced AI in story mode, and the loss of save files due to Steam Cloud issues. A few also note that the online community is dominated by highly skilled players, making it less accessible for newcomers. [2][9][13][34][35]

It’s a free to play Anarchy Reigns that wasn’t even alive for a year. Tekken 7 and DOA5 came out that year! Was this game any good???

All well detailed, all different, many characters, many variations, many skins. It is very overwhelming first 10 hours. There is a very steep learning curve. Don't expect you gonna roll in and smash buttons and see supercool attacks and Finish enemy lol. NO. You gonna get wrecked with cool attacks instead. It has a story mode, it is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An intense, brutal fighting game with awesome characters and smooth combos that feel great once you get the hang of it. The graphics and sound are solid, and matches are always hype - whether you’re learning the moves or facing off online. A must-try if you like deep, action-packed fighters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is no better MK than MKX. Period. Next two installments are just forced to be made by higher instances in WB Games. Poor Ed Boon that has to do what they say, when they say and how they say.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is extremely fun to watch, but playing is another story. I'd suggest against buying it. Long story short, the gameplay itself is fun, you might even enjoy a few dozen hours against bots, finishing the story and doing klassic towers. But this is, first and foremost, an online game. And the only people that remain are extreme sweatlords that played this game for 10 years by now. I simply did not manage to find fellow beginners, I kept getting stomped by people with 10k+ matches over…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Mortal Kombat of all time in my honest opinion. No hate to the New Mortal Kombat games but this one was the one that lived up to the hype. Still has a community to this day after more than a decade. The run mechanic, the mind games, the combos, etc. I can go on and on but we'd be here all day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't play nearly as good as MK9 and I won't ever get over that. But I like it more than MK11 or MK1 and the roster is great. The guest characters they added really feel like they belong and are designed well. Good game! I hope Mortal Kombat goes back to this style of game instead of whatever is going on in MK1 right now.

If you unmute the video (yes, there's a video playing) you can hear the Friday the 13th "whisper sound" I made almost 10 years ago for the Jason DLC for Mortal Kombat X when I was an editor at Hammer Creative. They even used my version in the finished game O_O
neutral · AI labelView post →My two main problems I have with this game are some of the models look a bit odd and the inconsistency of the bots difficulty during the story mode. The amount of times I was cracking the sh!ts over getting juggled by the bots combos. Just wanted to get that out of the way. Overall this was a decent follow up. Story was engaging enough and getting to do brutal finishes are always fun. Also the one thing this has over 9 is the DLC characters. Getting to play as Jason and Bubba was good fun. Got…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite Mortal Kombat! I was disapointed at launch because I didn't care for the new characters, but over the years, comparing the gameplay to other MK games I've come to the conclusion that this is the best MK ever.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mortal Kombat X delivers fast, brutal, and incredibly satisfying combat with stunning visuals and cinematic story mode. The variation system gives each character three unique playstyles, adding depth and replayability. With plenty of modes, a strong roster, and polished gameplay, MKX remains one of the most exciting and content-rich entries in the series.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Campaign is just unbalanced npcs just brutaly slam and x-ray you without having a chance to recover very frustrating to progress further and online isnt active as it was so i recommend getting this on sale
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mortal Kombat X is what happens when over-the-top violence meets near-perfect gameplay. The animations, the sound, the feeling when you land that final brutal combo—it all hits harder than a Raiden thunderbolt. It’s a celebration of chaos and precision, wrapped in nostalgia for those who grew up yelling “Finish Him!” into old CRT screens.

neutral · AI labelView post →My new MK favorite, overtaking 9. It’s always fun to launch this thing up on the deck and play a couple rounds with friends; the combat speed might feel sluggish in your first match, but by the tenth hour, you’ll be zipping back and forth and pulling off sick combos. Mortal Kombat X has one of my favorite rosters in all of fighting game history. Even outside of the superb guest characters (much love to Leatherface), there’s a lot of great fighters on offer here. If we’re making comparisons, I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still one of the best fighting games that's worth every penny The gameplay here is more fast-paced than in other MK entries, which makes the game less casual-friendly but more enjoyable if you're willing to learn characters and their combos. Single-player content is excellent. AI is fun to play against; characters are as great and diverse visually as they are gameplay-wise, while stages are memorable and highly interactive. So there's a lot of enjoyment in completing randomly generated…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to love Mortal Kombat X. Back in 2015, it was one of my favorite entries in the series, with a fantastic combat system, great character variations, and the Faction system that added a fun competitive layer. Unfortunately, my experience today has completely changed. After years of progress, my entire save file was lost due to a Steam Cloud synchronization issue. There was no way to recover it because the cloud save had already overwritten the local files. Sadly, this appears to be a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am mixed on this game, on one hand at has a great roster and great combat, but on the other hand I found the story just meh and a lack of fun stuff to do after the story. 10000% better than MK1, thats for sure.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like a fast-paced, competitive fighting play-style of a game, I HIGHLY recommend you playing MKX. It's loads of fun and I practice combos in my free time to get better and honestly sure some people that have no life play this game to ruin your day, in the end, the campaign is ALSO good as well. I cannot believe this game is now a decade old and the graphics still actually hold up to this day. The only con I have (which might be a me problem) is when I try to do Player V Player on casual…

negative · AI labelView post →Mortal Kombat X is the only game where you can break someone's spine, stab them repeatedly, set them on fire, and somehow they still have enough health left to beat your ass. And I absolutely love it. The combat is fast, aggressive, and ridiculously satisfying. The different fighting styles give you plenty to experiment with, the roster is great, and the Fatalities are so unnecessarily disgusting that you almost feel bad. Almost. The story is entertaining enough, although let's be fair,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game. And the most I played of any Mortal Kombat since Deadly Alliance on the PS2. I've never been a huge MK fan but I've always respected the series from a distance. This might still be the best MK game of the last 10yrs or so, which is a pretty sad statement in itself. 11 and 1 look very impressive but the feel of Mortal Kombat X's gameplay still holds up, definitely. I recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MKX is one of the better Mortal Kombat games, I really enjoy it. The story is fairly short, should only take about an hour or two. Has some QTEs mixed in, so be aware. Lots of singleplayer content available, and lots of characters and variations on those characters to learn. Stages are highly interactable, which can change your strategies as the match goes on. Highly recommend this one!
