What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 188 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (455 of 529 positive).
Players find MR FARMBOY a relaxing and addictive farming automation game. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game lacks depth and becomes repetitive in the endgame. [4][5][6] The developer is praised for regular updates and responsiveness to feedback. [7][8][9]

A game held back by ambition, possibly burnout, and perhaps even a core inability to fully execute critical mechanics in a genre like this. The game is tile based. You literally edit ground tiles to either grass, sand, paths, or functional tiles like farm plots or animal plots. Workers work designated plots. Ranchers need access to animal tiles and Gathers/ Farmers need access to farm/ plot tiles. Plots need to …

If you’ve got ADHD or struggle to focus, give MR.FARMBOY a try. Weirdly enough, this game has been great for calming my brain while I’m working at my desk or doing something away from the keyboard. It’s one of those semi-idle games that keeps your mind engaged without demanding constant attention. The game puts you in the role of a citizen building up a farm in a kingdom. You’re given land, and over time you …

Promising game, could be a great game with more development. The concept is good, the graphics are cute. I really enjoyed playing a few hours. That said, at this stage it still feels a bit repetitive. There's many crops and animals but they're all the same with different names and stats. Collect X of this crop to unlock the next one. Then collect Y to unlock the crop after that. After a while you expand the map, …

I don’t usually write long game reviews, but this one deserves an exception. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: Simple, easy-to-learn gameplay that feels incredibly relaxing A very smooth, well-designed gameplay system. A well-designed leveling system. The NPC worker AI is impressively well-designed. Cons: The inventory UI could use some improvement Overall, it’s well worth buying. It offers a very relaxing …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I joined the discord to ask for help on why I wasn't getting eggs from my chickens (you need animal tiles FYI) and all I got was a sarcastic answer from the dev as if I should have known everything to begin with and then his excuse was that he only got 2 hours of sleep since the latest release. This is not how I think I should have been treated or anyone else who has questions about the game. And expecting us to read his mind on the type of development he wants for his game is crazy. He even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A small game with good bones, but all fat, and no meat. While the core loop of the "automation" gameplay is interesting, it quickly tires out and has no real upgrades to strive for. In addition, it is /slow/ for an automation sim. I call it "automation" and not "farming" because that is what it's wanting you to do - turn it into an idle game. However, whenever you are asked to use your character, there are no upgrades for you. So you feel just as sluggish as you did from minute one. I can't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have to agree with alot of people, the game really doesn't have a lot of depth and after 3h or so, the loop is just: - unlock new crop - gather an ungodly amount of this resource and others to unlock the next - repeat I am not sure if the developer intended to let us play for long enough to not be able to refund it anymore and i guess it's fine for the games price, but i really would have hoped for a more interesting game

neutral · AI labelView post →This is a good game and I did have fun, but it just isn't a 1.0 and I don't think we should let developers get away with releasing their game from early access when it is clearly not finished. As of writing, here are some of the things, that are fine in EA, but not when its supposed to be fully done: - Controller controls are rough. Things like selecting what to build in the menu being the same button as actually placing it, leading to sometimes placing what was selected before to be built…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game commits a cardinal sin of holding up long enough to outlast the first two hours of refund period, and then it shows you all of its cracks. "MR FARMBOY is a colony farming game with automation." says the first sentence in the store page description, and the tags support this statement. But it is as much of a "colony" and "farming" game, as cookie clicker is a bakery simulator. Mr. Farmer is a basic incremental game with farming assets: plant X of Y to unlock Z. Repeat a hundred…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Initially the price was right (I got this on sale for 8 bucks) there is some action to be had at the very beginning, but this is a very "hurry up and wait" game that essentially becomes and idle game that you run the background. You essentially just sit around waiting for the next tier of crop to unlock and then.... you get to wait some more for the next one! I agree with some of the other posters that essentially there is enough content in the beginning to play beyond the refund deadline...…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game with a ton of potential, but currently lacking in the endgame I enjoyed my time with this game for roughly the first three quarters of the progression, but I do have some issues with it. First of all, I don't want to pretend my ideas are absolute or follow the vision of the developer, I'm simply throwing things at the wall based on other games I've played. My biggest issue I made it to the last crop on Normal with the recommended King's Envoy start, so I feel I've experienced most of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like farming/gathering games, this one will suit your needs. If you read the description and think you'd like it, you probably will. I watched Orbital Potato on youtube play it, and I knew it would be my kind of game. The Developer is updating it regularly and he's very responsive to input, which are both positives for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have 100%'ed. Gameplay loop is simple, but I found myself having to redo my entire farm because I wanted quality crops of every crop for the endgame. I played it a lot slower than I think I had to, I did small fields and really compact at first. Reorganizing/redoing your farm is a bit of a pain. Developer put out a major rework/update that improved QoL a lot during my end-game playthrough and it was such a lovely change. Can tell that they're really putting in work. Fishing for the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MR FARMBOY from mrdboy is a compact farming and automation simulator that trades the usual life-sim charm of the genre for something more systems-driven and efficiency-focused. At first glance it presents itself as a familiar rural management game—plant crops, harvest resources, expand your land—but it quickly becomes clear that its real identity lies in optimization. Rather than building relationships or exploring a wider world, the experience is centered almost entirely on constructing a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I meant to stream this for an hour before switching games and ended up playing it for 6 hours. Truly addicting. The game is wonderful, the art is adorable and a lot of the QOL things, I wish were in other farming games, are all in here. So far my complaints are few and not noteworthy. If ya love cozy farming games, this one is a good one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a great and addicting game. I have yet to encounter a bug and theres ton of progression you can do. Slow at first but you speed up as you get more laborers. Wish this Dev got more publicity.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game that I play semi-idley with enough to do to appeal to idle and non idle players. I love the art style and expanding my farm. Well worth the purchase and I’m looking forward to seeing future development. Dev is also active on discord and super helpful!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun game! Get tons of little guys working for you. Auto switches tools which I love. Plus you can just hold down a direction and the button and it will harvest/plant down the whole row! Adorable graphics as well! Great game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played before intro to multi save update, enjoyed it but never came back until recently. Loved it then but it was a pretty quick completion in like 4hrs? There were no achievements or anything and got to the final crop relatively easy. However, recently came back after all the new updates and there is so much more now! Far more to reach for and try to complete. Don't get over confident and jump into the realistic mode, this is taking far longer than last time. Overall, enjoying the game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cute and chill farming game. Was somewhat boring at first release, but the dev has been extremely active adding new features (like the ability to gradually unlock more of the map, and training up a horse to move around faster) and fixing bugs, and the game is more challenging and fun now. I'm excited to see what other improvements are made as time goes by!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →100% completion in 144 hours. The first 70-80 were actively managed and then idled for the rest of the time to get the animal drop & gold achievements. This game was fun but could sorely use speed/time modifiers and additional workers, especially in the end game when all possible workers have been assigned, all tiles appropriated for farming/infrastructure and it is solely a waiting game for the achievements to pop. Nice cheap fun and neat that the dev is listening to feedback.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m only about an hour into the game so far, but I’m really enjoying it. I’m a sucker for games with farming and selling mechanics because I like being able to grind a bit and play on and off over time. As someone who both develops and plays games, I’m always on the lookout for interesting titles that offer something a little different. Full disclosure—sorry Steam—I usually end up playing games through Epic more often. But I’m a big fan of games like Terraria and Stardew Valley, and even with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This feels like a tech demo. Progression is painfully linear. Sell X of this crop, unlock next crop, sell X of that crop, repeat until you unlock an additional map tile after a week-long grind, repeat. That's the game. Every update will reset ALL your resources. Simply cannot recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just saw a game on Steam called Mr Farmboy...totally misread it as Mr Femboy
neutral · AI labelView post →This is the perfect game to unwind with! The progression is great and it's very satisfying! Going from a tiny plot of dirt to building up your farm with cute crops and adorable animals is addicting. Soooo cute! ❤ The pixel art is adorable and the soundtrack is super chill! Highly recommend if you love farming sims, or Stardew Valley-style games! 🌾🐔✨
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall: 4/5 Pros: - Number go up. - Automation through workers - Active developer Cons: - Some UI clunkiness e.g. Its painful to clear an existing field of crops and put in different ones
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's actually very juicy, I was impressed even just seeing the first few menus. Genuinely a fantastic game and I highly recommend giving it a go, especially considering the more than reasonable price point.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Farming and automation in one game, the perfect game I've been waiting for. Nice pixel graphics too. Excited to see what future updates brings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a disappointment. This game has/had such great potential. Everything I'm seeing in the beta is going the wrong direction. The way you harvest the crops is not fun anymore and it's a pain since the button to harvest is the same as the button to plant (left click). I've been waiting months for this update and it's a beta update that made the game worse. The money exchanging is a terrible idea that just adds an extra step and makes the game harder to play. On top of that, now that I've…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy this game quite a lot! Feels like a mix of Stardew Valley and Colony Survival which I love.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dont care about achievments and Im commited toget all of them in this game just to keep playing. Game is fun, cozy and developer cares about user experience. 11/10!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gotta grow all these crops.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cute farm game that has a bit of a tycoon vibe going for it with how you hire workers to handle everything for you. There's a few clunky things about the game (AI priorities, inventory management, larger tile management, could use minor tutorial), but overall it's very solid and worth losing a few hours to! The developer is also open to feedback and feature requests.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. If you like things like Autonauts, Factory Town, or Stonehearth. Cute and fun. It's a simplified automation game with the art style of Stardew Valley. You plant crops and hire farmhands who work the fields and deliver the goods to the market. Townsfolk come in and buy things. The more resources you bring in, the more things you unlock. The unlocks could come a little quicker, to improve the game pace, but it's still being developed. Overall, the game tries not to waste time with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not rightfully 1.0. I was having a ton of fun until I hit a ceiling induced by size. For example, the workers who feed the animals and pick up their drops are called ranchers. To save them from having to walk fully across the farm, I made another warehouse with animal food in it closer to the barn. I would personally walk animal food across the farm to the feeding warehouse as part of my chores. I expected that since the barn warehouse was much further away from the field growing the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's far too buggy with clicking and poorly balanced. The game is built on bought assets from kenmi-art on itchio, and he used ai for code in his Twitch stream. The result is a lack of optimization, and a lack of skill and technical knowledge to meaningfully improve the game. The game is severely unpolished and overall tedious enough to push you past the refund gate of two hours. I'm really disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm enjoying it. Third time restarting after a major update and I definitely want to highlight somethings that boosted my enjoyment. The economy used to feel slow and punishing but Fishing and Fruit trees are amazing additions and really fix that. FISHING! Man you make so much money so early from this. Easy Silver early on! Adding the Apple Tree to the starting area was a huge quality of life. I don't have to wait for the Merchant to show up to get silver. 3 Silver to plant the tree, 1…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played in the early access. very solid incremental game with a good idle capabilities
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game! Very relaxing and addictive. The longer you play, the better it gets. Really enjoying it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey #indiegamers #Farmgamers #cozygamers ! I stumbled upon a game called MR.FARMBOY on #steam and I did a dive into this game youtu.be/B8VlOhRAGYo
neutral · AI labelView post →it kind of reminds me of a idle game, once you play it for a while, but i have really enjoyed it. You keep farming to unlock more crops, animals, workers, upgrades, etc. There isn't a story or dialog but a little bit of a grind to unlock everything that makes you wanna keep playing. I bought while on sale and feel it was worth it.

positive · AI labelView post →I always dreamed of riding horses that are the exact same speed as me until I discovered Mr. Farmboi. There is something for everyone in this game... Do you want to roll around aimlessly for no reason? Do you want to trap people on an island and force them to do endless farming while gaslighting them with "payment"? Do you want to give all your hard earned supplies to some faceless kingdom just so you can have light on your street? (even though it never gets dark) Do you want to pretend…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It starts off ok but degrades into a bit of a slog. Interesting and cute concept though. *Replying to Dev* For me the transition into the quality crops/farm land was really the tipping point. All the buildings have 6 things they can do so the spit from 4 crops to 1 crop and 3 other qualities of the same was tough. Re doing it all a tile at a time I think is what pushed me away. I'm not really sure how to fix it? Maybe a way to copy/paste structures or blueprints? I'm at the last 4 crops to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was fun in the first ill say half of unlocking items, then it just becomes an unenjoyable slug fest to get the last vegetables when there isn't much else that you havent done 12+times already. Replayability doesn't seem there for me. I would give it a 3.5/5. The graphics also seem weirdly laggy dependent on which screen my stream client is or if I have a twitch stream on the other monitor the lag goes away.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I go the game when it earlier in early access. It's released now. It's a pretty solid game to idle. There's a good amount of crops and animals that you can raise. Buildings to build. It'a fairly easy game because of it being very friendly to automating. Once it fixed up the gamepad controls well I started to play a lot more. Since then it's continued to get regular content/feature updates. This is a really nice game to just build out your farming town.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun loop for simple and satisfying production sim
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very addicting 10/10 will play again and great idle game as well 😛👽🐵
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An hour in and holy unlocks! Theres a lot to do in this game and theres no down time. The perfect click farming game to waste endless hours. Im only an hour in and Im getting the hang of things. Highly recommend if youre into clicky games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is not boring at all, worth to buy, worth to play
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is basically an ide game lol. quite boring even at 9$. buy this if you want a fancy screensaver i guess..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cute and simple game with an addictive core mechanic. The progression feels satisfying, but the endgame currently becomes mostly about watching your money grow. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though it does leave room for more engaging late game content. One improvement I'd suggest is adding more player tools or automation options. Tasks like placing roads, preparing soil, and planting crops start to feel slow and repetitive when done manually. Unlockable machinery or upgrades in the…
