What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 198 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (27,253 of 28,545 positive).
Players praise the stylish, acrobatic gunplay and satisfying slow-motion combat. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game becomes frustrating in its second half with bullet-sponge enemies. [4][5][6] Many recommend the game for its fun mechanics and soundtrack, despite a short length. [7][8][9]

first half of the game is wonderful. Then it becomes mario with guns and overcomplicates itself. It makes me appreciate how simple hotline miami stayed while still being fun.

This game is like if you took Hotline Miami and Max Payne and they had a child and they named it My Friend Pedro and the result is just plenty of fun. Gameplay does not get repetitive, graphics have a vibrant fun feel to it and well designed worlds. Then you also got the soundtrack which is just banging its something you'd get out of combining the vibes of like John Wick and Cyberpunk which just match the game …

My Friend Pedro is a stylish shooter with great flow and a soundtrack that fits the action perfectly. The slow-motion tricks and acrobatic gunplay are a lot of fun, with light platforming sections breaking up the pace. I eventually gave up on chasing S ranks, the leaderboards are filled with cheated scores, which makes competing feel pointless. If you’re going for 100% achievements, be prepared: getting an S rank on …

One of the most frustrating games i have ever played in a good way. I almost broke my wrist during the final boss fight by slamming my hand into my desk after dying for the 5th time. i love this game so much and i recommend playing it with breaks in between episodes. don't be like me pls. pro tip: don't play on hard mode on your first playthrough 8.5/10

This is a Hotline Miami-like 2D side scroller where a talking banana guides you through the art of murder. This game is split into different linear levels which are full of dangerous enemies which you will have to clear in order to get to the end, really straight forward. You have different tools available to help you clear the levels, like different weapons, moves and abilities, e.g. rolling, spinning, wall …

It has very stylish gunplay—slow-motion (Matrix style), dual-wield, flipping, etc.—with some 2D-style Devil May Cry vibes. Graphics-wise, it's not that impressive, but apart from that, it's truly an enjoyable game. The game consists of 40 levels. It's not hard to clear the game (~10 mins per level), but it's extremely…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah, it's by the **My Friend Pedro** guy? That makes a lot of sense. I'm probably never going to touch a game that proudly extols itself as a precision platformer, but the gameplay looks great and tight if you're into that sort of thing!
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm over the massive, over-produced games. I looked at the price of the new Indiana Jones game (AUD119), and even though I loved Machine Games' previous work, I noped out. These days, I'm mostly reverting to simple arcade games more akin to the early era of gaming I grew up on. Shotgun Cop Man, from the people that made My Friend Pedro, just came out. It was $13. Finished it in one sitting, but I'll probably play it multiple times. Much better investment.

positive · AI labelView post →If Deadpool was reincarnated as a nameless hitman and talked to his imaginary best friend, who I might add is a Banana named Pedro, to go out on an endless Parkour killing spree, you would see this gem of a game in your library. If you love physics based puzzle shooting games, then go talk to My Friend Pedro. XD 8.3/10 Puzzle Shooting Game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has a decent start but doesn't finish strong. The controls are clunky and character feels too floaty for the amount of platforming. These problems cause a lot of frustration in the back half of the game, where the platforming becomes more precise. The enemies also become tankier and it ends up feeling contradictory to the speedy gunfighting you experience in the first half of the game. This is also where the gameplay starts feeling shallow because you end up repeatedly abusing the slow mo and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good run&gun game but sub-par platformer. The imprecise control is OK when you playing loose running around shooting enemies but around 1/3 of the game, especially in later area, is a platformer only with no combat and also instant death trap that completely halt the flow of the game. I feel cheated a bit honestly considering all the promo materials only show the shooting parts of the game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While it's far from perfect, you can't argue with the fact that you feel like a total badass even when you're not the best at the combat. I really did enjoy playing this, though I'd have appreciated a greater variety of settings and enemies. The game only lets it self go fully off the rails a couple of times and given some of the theming it really could have gone farther with... well anything that isn't a brown or grey industrial area. Still a good time while it lasts.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is really overrated. it takes way too many bullets to kill enemies (especially later on in the game) which throws off the whole flow of the game and makes the already janky combat even worse. also the last section is horrible with all the stuff that instakills you. i honestly do not understand why so many people like this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played the original flash game, so I knew what to expect. Which is to say, have no expectations besides 'shoot people and do acrobatics.' and also expect the story to go weird (i mean your ally is a floating talking banana, it doesn't exactly START normal). Yep. Got what I wanted and expected. Also the soundtrack goes SOOOO hard, I LOVE YOU NOISESCREAM
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →70. My Friend Pedro (2019 Video Game) I picked this game up on a sale and while I'll openly admit the final chapter stages in "The Internet" are some of the most irritating levels I've played in a video game in quite some time, I overall enjoyed this game and would very much recommend it to most.
positive · AI labelView post →Nice list, I was bit worried at first it'd be all roguelikes because of the first 3 games. Total Party Kill looks really original and interesting, looking forward to try it. I'm also surprised My Friend Pedro is on mobile and free. I've heard of it and thought it's a normal indie PC game.
neutral · AI labelView post →The game is really the most fun for the first half then the rest is utter ass. The Idea is simple, you add a cool gameplay mechanic that is meant to be used to get big scores and ad depth to the gameplay. In reality most of these mechanics and or gimmicks that come later are genuinely painful and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suck/ make it impossible to really style. The skateboard should be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ epic but it get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stuck on everything and acts way to inconsistently at times to be usable or fun, mainly im…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun game...for about 20 minutes. After that there's really not all that much else to it. Move through level, do acrobatics, shoot enemy - rinse and repeat. And yes, most action games do boil down to something like t hat, but there really isn't anything to it. It just gets repetitive and dull to me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My Friend Pedro is a fast paced side-scrolling shooter-platformer. It merges Max Payne-like slow mo' dual-wielding gun fu with parkour platforming, which results in amazing cinematic action. The controls seemed unresponsive at first - my character didn't do what I had in mind and I kept dying after every checkpoint. But once I figured out how the movement works, learned how to properly dodge and stopped spamming it for no reason - I suddenly began playing a lot better, and even managed to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's story is very bland, you could sum it up in a single sentence. It may seem like each level offers something different, but in fact, these are just boring elements the developer added to each level to fulfill the “bring something new to the game” requirement. The developer's purpose is not to bring joy to players or make the game more fun—they were added solely to meet a goal. The developer is likely even fear that players might find the game boring, leading to negative reviews…

A really fun twinstick, side scrolling shooter with crazy score attack potential and an incredible amount of weird nonsense you can do via game modifiers unlocked through play. The campaign is short but honestly longer than I thought. VERY fun
positive · AI labelView post →It's a style meter game that wants you to do multiple runs and master each level, but forgot to make the first playthrough actually fun. The movement and gunplay is kinda clunky and not satisfying enough to spend dozens of hours to master. My main gripe is is that it's hard to tell where you can aim and what's blocked off, so it's more trial and error rather than actual skill or reaction based. My opinion might change as this is a genre I haven't really touched before, but if you're like me…

positive · AI labelView post →Quite a bit to like here. Animations of the acrobatics are genuinely amusing, even though transitions between states can be a bit awkward when flipping next to obstacles. Boss battles are swift and reasonably varied despite the restrictive two-dimensional movement and simple combat. The game records checkpoints often; the only reason to restart a level from the beginning is a super rare occasion of getting stuck out of bounds because there is no way to manually restart from checkpoint. In any…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"My Friend Pedro" joins works such as "The Illiad" and "Catcher in the Rye" as a cultural cornerstone of humanity. The game, while simplistic to a passerby, contains an ocean of nuance and themes that the average consumer may never fully grasp. Our protagonist is nameless, he is a vehicle for the modern player - or perhaps representative humanity as a whole. He knows nothing except what is relayed to him by a flying, phallic, yellow fruit known as 'Pedro'. Not only is this banana's name…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The beginning of the game is great, the levels are diverse and fun but the remaining half of the game feels as if they just ran out ideas and based each remaining level on one mechanic. For example, if the game introduces you to a timed switch, you'll be spending pretty much the entire level completing puzzles that utilize them, or a smart mine, and so on and so forth. Combat is meh, corpses block your bullets, but the NPC's will have no trouble shooting through them which is annoying.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretty overrated on Steam, 95% for a game that barely even has a functioning score system is a little much. It's not a BAD game, but it's also not a GOOD game. I have to give it a negative because it's just too middle-of-the-road, and there's much better games in this genre that I would pick up way before this one. First, the drawbacks. The game's balancing sucks (assault rifle too strong, other weapons become obsolete), the scoring system is the worst I've seen in any of these games, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →too much filler levels just to make sure this game can't be completed in under 2 hour. the soundtrack music are in the game rather than seperate mean that you need to run the game just to listen to the music. just an 8/10 game wouldn't say it's the best and there is not much worth in term of replaybility, a lot of level are just puzzle and filler. I can't recommend enough this game truth is to give it a thumb up so I'm giving thumb down instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My Friend Pedro is a wacky, somewhat difficult, platforming and shooting game with a wacky story and premise. There are twists and turns, fun mechanics and silly things to try around every corner. This game is truly an incredible experience, despite not being too long. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes this type of game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is turning 7 years old in 15 days and it still is an uniquely interesting shooter. You can pull off some aesthetically pleasing cinematic moments where you just destroy everything in sight with bullet time and proper aim placement. Three difficulties to choose from, and definitely replayable at least once. Overall, a fun experience.
