What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 260 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (20,525 of 20,973 positive).
Players widely praise the gameplay as addictive and well-designed, with a focus on speedrunning. [1][2][3] The soundtrack by Machine Girl is frequently highlighted as a standout feature. [4][5][6]

best thing to do if you buy this game: skip the dialogue and crank voice volume all the way down. the story is pointless and the dialogue is probably the worst thing of all time. the voice acting is also laughably bad. this game is heavily carried on gameplay and its replayability. also, i do not care if the story was made to be bad "on purpose", it still sucks. it is also not "so bad its good" either. my own …

I didn't know I needed this game up until I played this game. A game which is so f***ing well designed that you WANT to do better every time. Not because you need to, but because you want to. And the soundtrack is an absolute banger which perfectly blends with the gameplay. The only downside of this game is the cringy dialogs, but it's actually so cringy that it circles back to being ironically funny. So in fact, …

Ok the dialogue is pretty cringe but the gameplay is so good it doesn't matter. Finding the fast path through a level is so immensely satisfying when you pull it off and the OST keeps you locked in. If the idea of a speedrunning 3d action platformer interests you at all I highly recommend.

Machine Girl album that comes with a game. Couldn't have asked for a better introduction.

Every now and then I still get DMs from friends in response to my initially beyond out of reach times. I think that's the core of Neon White and where it's at its best. Is there an actual villain in the story? Sure, but who cares when the real villain is that one friend who's keeping you from the top of the leaderboard. It's a great gameplay loop but the personal war, waged over hundreds of battles, that's what …

95% of the 260 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Neon White. The complaint that keeps coming up: cringeworthy dialogue and story. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Neon White received "generally favorable" reviews on Windows, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. Eric Van Allen of Destructoid praised the game's angular aesthetics, philosophical story, speedrun-incentivizing level design, and endearing characters and voicework, writing, "[Neon White]'s a blood-pumping, speed-infused anime shooter with style and a decent bit of heart." Eurogamer's Oisin Kuhnke recommended the game, lauding its story, themes, and anime influences while primarily praising its speedrunning-centric core gameplay loop, stating, "Neon White has some of the best level design I've ever played in an arcade-style game...the…

So NEON WHITE is not an indie title? Is it now bad for someone with money to use it to put out a game?

neutral · AI labelView post →I want to say on the record the story is insanely cringe and I hated it. I would die of embarrassment if someone watched a cut scene of this game and thought that was something I was into. But the game is saved by a huge PRESS F TO SKIP banner onscreen whenever one starts. Other than that, it's a real fun ~10hrs of fast-paced platforming. I think $25 is asking too much though.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You call this story cringe, I say it has personality. I mean really, 0 leaning on the 4th wall, the characters are distinctive and fun like white trying to be suave and cool but no one buying it, the jokes progressibly get more sparce as the story continues so it gets more serious as it continues, the ending closes the story with a nice bow, and the final message is something I've legit haven't seen much of if any lately (writing this in 2026 btw). Why would anyone think this story is that ba-…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really really good. Its got great characters and story, amazing level design and overall gameplay, and its actually fun to go back and improve on times unlike in most games. I don't understand why people hate the voice acting or writing so much, its good or at least passable at all times. I actually did find the story engaging and I think there are a lot of oversensitive crybabies in this review section who are looking for something to be mad at.

It's a game that is just a hundred little short platform speedruns that is a wonderful combination of fun and challenging. The challenge level gets pretty high especially if you aren't much of a platformer but it's entirely fair. I may never be good enough to beat the final hell rushes (optional stuff that unlocks at the end) but that's not only okay it's a good thing. As for the writing and…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is extremely trigger-happy, leaning heavily into fast-paced action and constant engagement. I really enjoyed the gameplay flow, it feels smooth and satisfying, and the pacing keeps you hooked. However, the writing doesn’t quite live up to the gameplay. Some of it comes across as cringeworthy, with dialogue that feels more like low-quality fan fiction than something polished. It can pull you out of the experience at times. But you anime cucks will prolly enjoy it

I bought this game back when it first came out. Back then I couldn't really get into it, and I didn't have the time, so I dropped it. After two years I was bored and mindlessly scrolling through my backlog and realized I hadn't actually gotten far in it, and so I recently reinstalled it. And after a playthrough? It's insanely good. positive · AI labelView post →Speedrunning with the power of god and anime on your side. The core gameplay loop is simple but extremely well fine-tuned. It's satisfying to rush through and satisfying to shave just a couple milliseconds off by optimizing your movement, while the small and simple set of options means you can go hard on optimizing. The story is perfect 90s anime camp, they even got Steve Blum to voice the protagonist. I would recommend embracing the camp but if you can't, there is a skip button helpfully…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some of the most addicting gameplay I've tried this year. It has that "one more turn" feel except the "turn" is a seven second segment that you're trying to shave .8 seconds off of. I actually really appreciated the difficulty balance here, where just completing a course is pretty easy and you only have to care about time if you're going for medals. Makes it go down a bit easier if you're trying to keep pace with the story, which is uh not that bad? Cringey sure but it felt completely…

And there are some cards you can pick up from the ground. They all have their own abilities. We have pistols, smgs, shotguns... And they all have M1 and M2 versions. M1 is using the gun normally. M2 is where things get fun. From jump boost to instant dash. There is a lot of variety. You lose your card when you use M2, though. The game demands calculated…
