What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 176 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (3,169 of 3,554 positive).
Players find Nova Lands a fun and addictive automation game, especially early on. [1][2][3] Many reviewers note the endgame becomes grindy and loses momentum. [4][5][6] Some players criticize the game for lacking quality-of-life features and having bugs. [7][8][9]

Edit: Turns out there is mandatory data harvesting you can't opt out of. I suddenly understand why they want an insufferably long grind and recommend you leave the game running. It gives them more time to sift through your personal files and spy on where you go and what you do. It's data scraping malware masquerading as a cute production game. Nova Lands ended up being a really pleasant surprise. It has a clear and satisfying progression system where almost every resource you collect has a real purpose, and the gameplay strikes a nice balance between being engaging and fairly relaxed. There’s lots of hours of content to work through, and the way the player house rewards a bit of idleness is actually a really cool touch it lets you take things at your own …

I got this game in a bundle and wasn't expecting much, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It strikes a good balance between cosy game and addictive logistics optimisation. Progression is smooth with no slow or grindy sections (as long as you are smart with your set up) and mechanics are forgiving with no time pressure, dead ends or fail states. It's nicely presented with cheerful clean sprites, runs great (on deck …

Like another review on here said and I kind of disregarded when purchasing: The endgame does very much fall apart. Buy this on sale, there's a lot of charm and fun here. +You get a very enjoyable ~20 hours of gameplay and an "ending". +You can very easily get all but three achievements, just from playing naturally. The last three are secrets that take just a few minutes to search up and unlock. -The true ending / …

Fun little factory game. If you get easily hooked on grinding resources and working your way up from iron bars to supercomputers, this game is for you! I will say it has a bit of a slow start because you don't really get an "end goal" in the beginning. You're mostly just building and expanding for the sake of building a factory. However, the game does a good job of switching things up with different mechanics, NPCs, …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So Much Potential, Yet So Little Content This game had lots of potential, for sure! The game is all about automating your bots while you take your time unlocking new islands, completing quests, and occasionally fighting bosses. During the first few hours, you're thinking, "How hard could this game be?" But after playing a little longer, you realize just how easy it is to understand and master the mechanics. That's always a great thing to have in a game. But... Once you've mastered the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the story of a player who spent eighty days in Nova Lands without dying a single time. It was an impressive streak, truly. A testament to their skill, or perhaps their caution. But by the end of it, the player wasn't really playing anymore. They were eating dinner and watching videos on the internet while the game sat there, doing absolutely nothing at all. You see, the game had hit a wall. A wall made of time. Productivity had ground to such a pathetic halt that there was simply…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game, but despite the amount of content and effort that went into Nova Lands, I can really only describe it as: burdensome. The entertainment value sharply declines once you stop feeling like you have a clear sense of what to develop next, and I found myself having to reorganize entire islands several times to optimize automation for progress. In general, the game is very well put together, but whatever story is there feels like it takes a backseat to what…

Overall Rating - High Quality ★★★★☆ First Impressions Nova Lands (NL) is a title I got from a bundle, knowing little about what it would be like before installing it. Generally, I knew it'd be a resource generating and gathering sort of game, but I wasn't wholly sure how that'd work mechanically. After all, there's some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, but ONLY on a deep discount. The game presents itself as a cozy factorio type game. It does start off feeling pretty cozy, but there is a massive lack of QoL improvements found in other factory type games that leaves a lot to be desired. For example, you don't get access to the ability to move buildings around until towards the mid-late game and access to ability to remove everything on an island until late game. For a cozy type game, inventory management just feels clunky and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished the entire game in one session. This is a finished game, that feels unfinished in so many moments, that i don't even know where to begin or how to describe it. A mix of satisfying, fun space management, limited bot management challenges, but also frustttttRATING moments, bugs, (time) balancing, game design and questionable progression. It's just, so many times did i go "WHY is this the way it is!", and the answer was almost always "to stretch the game's playtime", which is sad.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would describe it as forager with automation. Had a lot of fun playing it, towards the end it becomes quite a bit grindy to get the 100% done. Automation works well enough, even though sometimes I wished for a bit more. The riddles were easy enough and there is def. enough content for the price tag. I had to replay it from the start once, because I managed to soft-lock myself, do not remember fully how I managed to do it since I took a year break from the game afterwards.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Baby's First Factorio It's Factorio, but with cutsey graphics, way less complexity, no mod support, and way less polish. Now, a Factorio with less complexity is not bad, that's useful to get people into the genre, and also if you just feel like relaxing without thinking too hard. But this goes too far. I don't mind starting directly on bots, god knows that's one of the most common mods in Factorio as well. No forced combat isn't bad either, I fully admit I'm a filthy casual who always has the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game starts out incredibly statisfying but becomes incredibly slow and boring when getting close to end game. The logistics drones are limited to one item at a time which wouldn't be an issue if you weren't limited to five per island... Alternatively, the limit would be fine if you had a way to upgrade their capacity in the late game. The game gives you a way to boost all islands at once but ties it up to an asteroid that is incredibly tedious and doesn't respect the player's time at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's one of the simplest and most intuitive automation games. The first 10 hours are very entertaining and fun, but after that it's awful (though still enjoyable). The island concept is interesting, but it creates too many bottlenecks. It's impossible to have a visually appealing production due to the very limited space. After finishing the story, I tried to create a production without pauses or player intervention, but it started to lag, so I gave up. Even so, it's quite entertaining. I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got a game called Nova Lands for like 60 cent on cdkeys because someone recommended it to me if you like Forager(factory/automation/Island management), said I'd play ten minutes before bed, it's been an hour and I can't stop HALP
positive · AI labelView post →I thought I was going to love this, and while I'll keep playing it semi-idly, it just feels like Forager: slow edition. I've played an hour or two more than the Steam stats suggest as I was streaming it and the time hasn't counted properly, but the beginning couple of hours are such a slog that I don't have high hopes for the rest. Videos and screenshots suggests there is a lot more to find, but the unlocck paths are so slow and repetitive that I found myself regularly just sitting waiting for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a crafting game which has a fun gameplay loop and intuitive progression system -> It makes one hour melt into four without even realising the time has passed. The pixel art and game's style is lovely. Edit after 14 hours: After progressing to the final area of the game, I can see some of the critiques of other comments. I echo many of their sentiments - I think the developers just sort of 'gave up' on the concept of the game towards the end. The final production items take SO long…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid game to start but drops off fast, feels like they had an idea then stopped halfway. A survival automation game with no meaningful choices. If you don’t like reading long reviews skip to the total score. Art Style – 1 point total – 1/1 This game has a cute sprite like coloring pencil look to it. Unique but not too distracting, the other benefit is that you can tell by how unique all the sprites, the small details mattered. Playability – 1 point total – 0.5/1 You kind of have to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Strong start, poor finish I really enjoyed this game in the beginning, but around halfway through I had done everything, and there was nothing left but waiting for my machines to produce the items I needed in order to finish the game (20+ hours of waiting) And then the ending was irrelavent. If you like base building / production line games, then I would say give this a try, but be prepared to wait a long time, or abandon the game, towards the end
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Hey Forager, can I copy your homework?" "Sure, but my homework isn't really even mine, i just copied it from the guys sitting around me."
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just honestly kinda boring, interesting concept for a game but it just feels like an annoying grind of "great now I gotta add this" instead of feeling desire to expand. Mostly because there is no expanding, only restructuring. You make a good setup just to tear it down because you got a new building, and while I am all for that in Satisfactory and Factorio, it feels more unmotivating in this game due to space constraints.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's way too slow paced. Once you get to plastic(?) the already glacial pace of the game grinds to a halt with how power intensive and space inefficient the buildings are. This wouldn't be as big of an issue if space wasn't at a premium, but each island is relatively small with an even smaller effective building area since you need to leave space for resources to spawn most of the time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nova Lands is a very enjoyable automation game. It is not particularly difficult and is well suited for casual players. Some information is missing, such as how to capture creatures, although it is not too hard to figure out, and you can always look it up online. A few mechanics can be confusing at first, like buying packages in buildings placed on your island while buying blueprints in the spaceship. I only realized much later that blueprints allow you to construct as many items as you want…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game was great! It's an automation game that strikes a great balance of being simple enough to understand but having enough complexity that keeps you tweaking and optimizing. This game put me into a time vortex unlike any I've had recently; I was hooked from start to finish. The game length was also perfect for me, I finished up right as I started to feel like I wanted to be done with it. Great game all around for anyone looking for a casual automation game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly if you're looking for a quick bit of fun with an factory/survival game there's better options. I played through a large part of this game but I couldn't shake the feeling of this being unfinished despite it seemingly no longer getting updates. The game at its core is interesting enough but some parts of the game are incredibly slow to progress through and some of the game feels just generally rough around the edges. TLDR: The game doesn't feel finished and leaves a lot to be desired.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you liked Forager, you'll enjoy this. Almost everything in this game has a purpose in progressing. Fast and easy 100% on Steam, while there is still more to unlock ingame. Early game is fun. Later stuff got a little tedious, especially in space and packager stuff. Imo needs more combat, since I got a lot of combat upgrades after I already beat all bosses. The shield and health upgrades are useless, also the recharging sound is really annoying. There is so much potential optimizing but I…

neutral · AI labelView post →An easy, fun automation game with a great soundtrack and beautiful artwork. The progression feels satisfying for the most part, but it slows down heavily in the endgame. As you unlock more islands, space becomes incredibly cramped, leaving very little room to expand or optimize your machines. It has its flaws, but overall, it’s a pretty good experience.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun time, although the lategame is largely a waiting simulator, I'd struggle to recommend it at full retail
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great 2D automation/factory game with a fun progression. You start with a single island and before long you are managing a dozen with bots, transporter arms, drones and more to automate your logistics. It does have some rough edges, especially in the late game with some glitches pertaining mostly to the drones and transport arms on the desert/sand island. That said, it plays quite well on Steam Deck and the touchscreen actually can help you overcome some of the glitchy issues with the drone.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thought I left a review on this game but apparently not? Fairly simple automation game, artstyle and graphics are fairly charming, and gameplay is decently fun. The bosses and story are mostly just flavour, but getting access to the space station is a pretty good feeling later on. Cons are not too complicated. You're incentivised to put most of your production on the same island, which gets very very cramped late game, and some crafts take too long (eg, 1min per item). The problem is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steam still can't accept offline playtime before making a review, so.. I just let the title screen run for 5 more minutes in order to say: Cute, but extremely simplistic and limited with few options, limited land, and requires awkward inventory management. I supposed that means it is "streamlined". Sure. I didn't know what I was expecting, but after a brief start the mid-game seems like a long grind without much to keep me there.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little automation game with some nice extra features. If you like this type of game, you're gonna have a good time.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was enjoyable for the most part but the ending was terrible, there was no real climax. or unexpected ending or twist. I spent 72 hours on 90% doing nothing only to be so disappointed at the end. Worst part I can't get the refund I desperately want now Also had a few bugs with the magnets and other automation tools that were supposed to revolutionize the way your systems worked...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring. The progression is not fun. Not even close to Forager
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I believe the idea of this game is very very cute. However it is incredibly lacking in diversity. for a $20 game this game needs about 5x more content. I believe the value of this game is between $5 and $8. I don't dislike the game, it is just very low value for the purchase compared to the inspirations of this game (Namely forager and factorio-lite games)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun little game, but the "end game" kinda falls apart. Feels very tacked on. Still a fun romp and not terribly expensive. I do dislike that there's an "idle to increase production speed" mechanic. To me that seems like the game just needs a core speed boost instead. But that does not even feel necessary until the end game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. The end game was kinda grindy though. Made me sit and wait for awhile because I needed a specific item. But everything else about the game was great. It was pretty addicting getting more and more upgrades and having the factory grow. 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a very fun and addictive game (like someone else in the comments said, "Factorio meets Forage"). Late game becomes too grindy and I had to stop playing because the game was stuttering too much from all the machines in all the islands, plus I couldn't find out what I had to do to progress.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very enjoyable, can be quite grindy, I personally left me steamdeck on over night so I could progress more during the day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Watching the automations you've created is fun. Not too hard, not too easy, not too grindy, it's just right. It's not an amazing game, but I recommend it. You'll have a good time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →needed a game like forager, this delivers quite well. Nova Lands might even be better. Forager felt a little more simple, but I like the challenge of this game. 10/10. play it. NOW.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun little factory builder, it's reminiscent of Forager in a good way where the gameplay feels like a distillation of the most satisfying parts of other games in the genre. And the little combat and exploration bits, plus the addictive asteroid mining minigame and house customization were fun asides that added some nice variety to the experience.
