Unlike some of the others, I have not experienced any issues with the sound. It could be because things are different on Linux (which my system is), or my ears being defective, but I would go with the first option. However, having played both OT1 and OT2, I must say this game falls short on the story, gameplay and combat. The story is like they tried to cross off all the possible clichés. If you're a newcomer: It's a massive, slow-paced, charming and deeply immersive game—perfect for anyone looking for a long, detailed playthrough. If you're a die-hard fan: A lot of content from the previous games has been reused. It’s still a solid game, but you might notice a lack of originality, especially in the music, art and design. Bottom line: OT2 is still on top, but OT0 isn't far behind.

To keep it simple, did you play OT 1 and/or 2 and enjoy them? If so, buy this game right now. It's up to the standards of the first 2 games, so this should be an easy purchase for you. If you love oldschool JRPG's with modern ammenities, this game is like a warm blanket.

Critics, per Wikipedia

Ethan Gach of Kotaku praised the game's music and described its HD-2D art style as "still pretty and effective nostalgia bait." Steve Watts of GameSpot highlighted the expanded party size of eight characters and the "Stardew Lite appeal" of the base-building mechanics. He also described the soundtrack as "stellar", particularly during combat sequences. Jordan Rudek of Nintendo World Report initially expressed concern that the game might be a straightforward console port of the mobile title but later noted relief at its emphasis on exploration, progression, and reworked combat. After spending 10+ hours with the game, the story so far 80% heavyhanded melodrama and misery to the point of unintentional comedy. It actually made me angry on a few occassions, and while games making you feel something is something that devs should strive for, they went about it in the wrong way here. Everyone acts in an unbelivably stupid way and came off contrived. The protagonist having the presence of a stone does not help. NPCs will refer to you as a nondescript barely present lobotomite…

I like the series, it's a fine game, but can we stop with the trope of letting war criminals walk free because "more bloodshed won't solve anything"? The characters in this game baacially just let Hitler go back to running Germany because he stopped killing people for a couple of days. Not really exaggerating. 🤦‍♂️

Octopath has been one of my favorite new IPs of the last decade and this is mostly more of the same. If you like the previous games primarily for their gameplay you’ll probably enjoy it. The town building and trade shop are decent additions. Other changes are mixed and some make the game worse. Having a second row of party members feels good but the removal of advanced classes feels bad. Most of the extra characters are redundant or useless fluff. The vast majority of players are going to…

Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games ever made. This, however, is an abomination. The low quality sprites that lack any kind of filtering, the overly simple enviornments, the low quality battle voices, and the reuse of music from OT1 leads to a very cheap feeling game. This is obviously by Asano's b-team, and it shows. Don't let this be your first OT game. Play the vastly superior games that came before it. This feels like a cheap fan game and shames an otherwise…

Starts off well enough but after the halfway point the mobile origins of the game begin to show and it becomes a slog, especially with the final chapter as there's a lot of padding such as repeated cutscenes and other reused material. The story can also fall apart when the slightest amount of scrutiny is applied. Personal gripe: the side characters love posturing, as if they're going to fight big bads even though the MC is the one who does all the fighting. That gets old fast. Speaking of…

Graphics are worse than Octopath 2, sound is worse than Octopath 2, story is so boring and unimaginative that i wont even compare it to the other Octopath games. Combat has lost much of it's depths, despite you now having 8 characters at your disposal, but for that to happen it was apparently required to change every class to a point where they are all so same~ish that is doesnt really matter. Yeah.. no. The story seems to be written by a 13-year old who just discovered shock value plot twists. Real tired of this "pity the obviously evil person" bs. On top of that there are no weapon sprites, no sprites for any gear at all in fact. No advanced or hidden classes too, it seems. Hard pass. Don't be like me and waste your money on this. Octopath 2 had some questionable stories and gameplay decisions, but this is another level of stupid I can not put up with.

The story of Octopath Traveler 0 operates on a moral spectrum so simple it would bore a toddler. The plot is too aggressively black and white; our protagonists and their companions are so relentlessly kind to everyone and everything, adhering rigidly to the saccharine principle that "friendship power defeats anything." They exist as flawless, two-dimensional exemplars of virtue. Conversely, the antagonist is merely a total, obviously horrendous, and utterly corrupt evil, a villain so…

Yes, it's not Octopath 3, but... ... it is not a bad Octopath game. However, I'd still recommend Octopath newbies to play Octopath 2 first -> then 1 -> then 0. Octopath 0 plays in the same world as Octopath 1, so on this way you have some extra background lore. Octopath 2 is overall still the best Octopath game so far. WTF is Octopath Traveler "Zero"? Octopath Traveler 0 is a Singleplayer/Offline remake of their mobile game "Champions of the Continent". - The stories are for the most part…

I think the game is really good, it has the Octopath feeling and really fun fights, as well as great graphics and incredible music (still composed by the awesome Yasunori Nishiki, of course). I'd say it does start a bit slow : the first arc ranges from "meh" to "ok", but the game keeps getting better with more and more stuff to do, and the fighting system (which isn't exactly like OT1 & 2) really starts shining. The story gets better as well by then. But yeah, the first few chapters are a bit…

It doesn't feel like an Octopath Traveller game, it honestly just feels like a generic JRPG. They removed the personal character-driven stories from Octopath I and II and instead there's just some generic guy thrown into a bunch of scenarios. The game frequently gives you yes or no choices, which ultimately don't matter, because the other characters will just circle back around to the question again if you give the wrong answer. On the upside, however, I did like the equipable skills system,…

I do recommend this game. But it also comes with some caveats. The game has a lot of the same strengths as its predecessors, but it's slightly worse in probably every way. I've had fun with this game, but Octopath Traveler 2 is light years better. This prior games did a much better job with literally everything: story, characters, party management, skills, EX skills, progression, pacing, etc etc etc. This game tries to go outside of that framework, and while still fun, does not hit on…
