This game is good, but I wouldn't recommend it. Let's start with the good. You start out as sort of a loser, who is nothing special at all- but you are able to climb up and become an adventurer. The game does not hold your hand, It expects you to figure things out, like the magic system which is mostly about combining spell X with Spell Y. I've now played through each of the game's main questlines, across three different characters, and I think that this is the best 7/10 game I've ever played. When I first started playing I really wasn't sure about it and even considered a refund but as I kept coming back it slowly grew on me. It's janky, made on a budget, and there are plenty of questionable design choices, but overall I think it offers something …

So... You make a game without a typical manual save system. This has been done countless times before. Does anyone like it? No. Why not? Because your game is also gloriously buggy. In co-op, there are consistent disconnections in the Vendavel Fortress. Things break. When they break, there's no way to revert to a working state and try again. This is why people consistently reject single-save game designs. This is how you ruin an otherwise enjoyable game. You've had years to fix this. You…

I love this game. But that wasn't the question Steam asked, it asked if I can recommend this game. And there is a very high chance that you, dear reader, will not like this game. You probably won't like that the "tutorial" level barely teaches you the basic controls, and skips over many important topics. You probably won't like that the game starts by leaving you shipwrecked with nothing, and quickly moves along to giving you a time limit to pay off a debt that neither you through…

Outward is a game I've tried to enjoy multiple times. I've even installed mods that borderline on cheats, just to see if I could bypass its core design and find the fun. It never works. The problem isn't the difficulty; it's that every system feels engineered to be a chore, turning a survival adventure into a laborious checklist. The “Burn” system is a perfect example of this anti-fun design. You sleep in your home, prepare, and leave town... you’re already down -10% max stamina just from…

When a game says it's realistic, only the worst, most tedious things it asks you to do are realistic. Outward is a 3rd person open world survival RPG. It asks you to manage your inventory weight, hunger, thirst, temperature, health, stamina, and mana, and it wants that management to be as tedious and time-consuming as humanly possible. It is not interested in respecting your time in any way, and indeed goes out of its way to make your play experience slow. Note that I say slow, not…

A game so chockfull of tedium and clunk that not even Co-Op is a saving grace. Imagine you are playing a racing game. But a full tank only lasts for 100m, every 200m you have to patch a tire, every 160m you have to clean your windshield, every 70m you have to change the oil and every 180m you have to take a break so the engine doesn't overheat. Also, before you can even start the race you have to load 80% of your trunk full with mandatory repair equipment. This is how it feels like playing…

This Review is for you, that like me, love challenging and hard games and was willing to overlook a few of the negative comments to give this game a try. The problem with this game is NOT in its difficulty. With Outward 2 coming out already, I doubt this review could change anything, but I wanted to warn other players on what they are actually getting into. The survival system is awesome, it's great to see a game bringing the craft system into a Must Learn situation, and tieing it with the…

The concept of the game is top-tier. The idea of an action RPG with intense survival mechanics and realistic progression deeply resonates with me. However, a game that prides itself on difficulty MUST ensure that the combat is extremely refined which is simply not the case here. Enemies frequently move in ways that defy physics, and hit detection is bizarrely inconsistent.

This game is obviously not for me. The hybrid between RPG and survival game sounds interesting, but the huge empty open worlds in combination with a lack of fast travel or mounts became very boring after a few hours. Most of the time you're just running around, looking for something to do. Not my cup of tea.

On paper this game should be right up my alley. An open world fantasy RPG that leans heavily into player freedom and even has online co-op. 61 hours of playtime and many attempts with my most recent one being the furthest I've ever gotten into the game, I'm sad to say that the game is too tedious to get through. My opinion of the world of Outward is a double edged sword. On one side it is perhaps my favorite part of the game. Exploring the world for the first time and having to compare…

Sadly while I liked the game for what it is, I simply cannot recommend this game to the average gamer. This game is very niche. On a first playthrough this game is pure tedium. It took 4 characters and several tries to get into it until I learned the mechanics. I had it for a long time in my library I had to force myself to finish it. If I was to describe the gameplay would be: 70% walking/running, 20% percent preping and inventory management, 5% exploring 5% combat. Until I found how to…

Sadly not for me. I love the concept and the magic system is one of the more interesting. But the walking. My god the walking. I am not a fan of fast travel in a game, but at least give us a horse or something. It takes so long to get anywhere and it is just so tedious. Played it today for 30 mins and did nothing but walk back to town from where it spawned me after dying. 43.9 hours in and I think I'm done with the game. I started in the first zone, went through the intro and then to the first dungeon to farm troglodytes. I made some money running back and forth until there were no more mobs in there. I quickly learned that I'm not able to kill anything besides those troglodytes. Fine, I will buy some better weapon and armour. So I did and with those I could kill bandits. Sometimes. When they were alone. Then I discovered "the best armour set" I can get in…

DO NOT BUY FOR CO-OP. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy bad game design where only the host of a multiplayer game can progress. You can mod the game to share/double the loot so the Guest player doesn't get ♥♥♥♥ all. But important things like joining a faction and receiving skills for it are Host only. Straight up stupid. And its not a bug its a design choice. Absolutely not coop-friendly. If you expected a game to progress together and have fun look elsewhere.

This is a game designed for a specific type of player. If you can appreciate a true challenge, hard save settings, hard survival settings then this is for you. It is a rare gem of a game that rewards the player for meticulous planning and clever thinking. Combat is great and meaningful, gameplay is superb. It's basically an extraction looter, RPG, hardcore type game, with multiplayer functionality - someone can just pop into your instance when you want them - I teamed up with a fella from India - had an amazing experience. It's one of those games. What's funny is I read the negative reviews and wasn't sure - I'm so glad I bought it; at £1.70 I can't really complain anyway - the game was essentially free. Outward. Truly one of the greatest experiences I've had gaming in my life, hands down. Basically an MMO world built for 2 people ( or more if you mod) to play. This game is ridiculous, in every sense. The combat could be described as "clunky" (I'd say heavy or deliberate) but it plays as if it were by design. I can best say it with, I see the criticisms towards the game, but when I was playing it all felt part of the challenge, and you do get better with time. Time which the game immediately…

As someone who has beaten the game...Outward is a strange one. The entire game is one tedious system after another. There are some good parts but...wow, it's sometimes hard to look past the glaring faults. There are mods and a debug menu which make the game more palatable and it can be fun in co-op using them. However, the quests are not designed for co-op as rewards aren't shared. So your partner misses out on unique items and abilities (unless you use the debug menu to activate or spawn in…

It's part of the core game mechanics, so it's not inherently a con, but most people will eventually get bored of having to walk everywhere. - Not for hotheaded players. Okay, so, basically the combat mechanics just aren't fun solo, but the quest system isn't designed for co-op play. If someone is partnering up with you they get no quest progress ever, no matter what. Kindof like Dark Souls except with a larger time investment. Example: - You find an enemy that looks tough. - You approach said enemy. - Enemy re-arranges your organs. - You think it's fine because at least you've learned how the enemy works now, you'll beat it next time. - NOPE, GET OUTWARDED. - You get teleported to a random place. - Follow the cursor Skyrim style until you find your bag (why even take it away if it's never a challenge to take it back?) - Take a minute of inventory…

I would not recommend this game to anyone who wants to play multiplayer. The quests are "shared" by both players but only the person hosting will get any reward from them. The combat is also really repetitive and is frustrating with a lock-on thing so you can't harm any of the other enemies attacking you when you lock-on to one of them. This makes it difficult for when more than one thing is attacking you at a time.

What you will get is a great sense of satisfaction through slow and steady progress, of learning and adapting to challenging, and getting back up after numerous failures. It's extremely challenging, unforgiving, and satisfying in an entirely different way than our typical constant dopamine drip, and I like it very much.

A game that lies to you while telling you to forget about it and just admire the world. That's how I would summarize Outward in one sentence, and I suspect this review will get a lot of hate from people who really love Outward. Despite the fact that I still recommend this game—and even bought it for two friends—I really do have a lot of issues with it. The world is gorgeous and the village by the sea that we live in, Cierzo, is my second favorite village in all of gaming. It’s hard to…

It's not for everyone..... It's a tough game, and you die more than you live. The upgrades are barely upgrades and the enemies can sometimes seem impossible. I've decided it's not for me.

Outward is a very unusual RPG game with heavy focus on survival and lots of walking. The learning curve is brutal and since there is no saving mechanism, player has to live with the consequences of their failures. But once you learn how to craft OP weapons and utilize dodge / parry / stagger / traps / ranged attacks / buffs, the combat becomes fair, almost too easy. This game is my GOTY. Not many games can capture that wander-lust feeling like this one. Everything you see in the game is…

I tried this game because I wanted an immersive and realistic open world experiences that doesn't hold your hand. Morrowind is one of my all-time favorite open-world games, and I heard this was its spiritual successor...It is not This game feels very empty, is a grind in all the worst ways, is slow and uninteresting, and it is not fun. And when you die, get ready for about 30 minutes of pointless tedium. Both movement and combat are very clunky. The combat is awkward and unintuitive, and…

Not for everyone. It's like ES3:Morrowind had a child with Valheim. Very much worth it, especially on sale, if you liked Morrowind for it's text -based story and lack of hand holding. It has a rich story and lore so far as my CoOP partner and I have uncovered while playing. Not as rich as Morrowind mind you. Most of the negative reviews mention that it's too tedious for them. Personally, I feel like the survival mechanics are very easy to manage, and even death doesn't hold terrible…

Lower production Elden Ring with survival mechanics and most focus on immersion. Great magic system. Great game from a small studio in general though, especially in co-op

Once you get into it, it is probably one of the best rpgs on the market. It is hard at the start, and leans heavily into survival, but if you persevere (which is what the game is about) you will find yourself immensely stronger, confident, and rewarded. Also, better with a friend.

This is a tough one because I really wanted to like this game. I tried and tried several times but I might ultimately have to quit. I've beaten Sekiro before which I guess gives me a false sense of confidence whenever I'm told a game is 'hard'. The central pitch is cool: when you're defeated you get a random event, and you spawn somewhere nearby randomly. You need to worry about things like food, water, cold and heat. You really need to think about stuff like setting up camp and staying at an…

One of the few games that turns you from a hobo to a hero. A fantasy game with a realistic survival mechanic. You're gonna get butt hurt by everything till you learn that running away is the best strategy. If you've always wondered how you would fare in an Isekai where you never get OP then this is the game for you.

I am leaving this review strictly because i see that it has "mixed" recent reviews. This game is INCREDIBLE. It is so unique and well rounded. I find myself thinking about this game at work more than any other game, and I don't even play it every time I come home. It's better with a friend but it's great solo. And controller split screen? come on. couch co-op beats everything.

Admittedly I need to put in a lot more time into this, however currently, this is one of my favorite RPGs. tall claim, and hard to explain, but let me try. Outward is a very expansive open world with equipment based progression and survival elements. when you first start the game, it feels extremely punishing, and it is. tasked with paying off your debts, you're forced to brave the wilds and you will very quickly be stomped. Many places where you can get face stomped, many bad turns you can…

+ Many skills, recipes; resources, loot, mobs that regenerate like an MMO. + Insane world building and design that changes with seasons. + Cool random events when you faint. (sometimes very funny) + Survival aspect is fun. You are no one at the beginning. (like Kenshi) + Camp anywhere, maybe in dungeons but beware of ambushes. (like Darkest Dungeon) - NO SEPERATE SAVE FOLDER. You lose everything after you uninstall the game. Backup before you uninstall. - No leveling at all, no skill levels.…

Solid 5/10. not bad but not great. Theres alot i love about this game, great vibes whens traveling, the difficulty is a nice challenge, fights feel like they matter and i enjoy the fact that there is no fast travel. All that aside theres problems. First off lets address some bugs, Your sheild will get stuck in the low position and the only way to fix it is by dropping the item or maybe rolling but its hit or miss. VERY easy to get stuck in terrain divots, when it happens your screwed. Getting…

Outward is a game by Guillaume Boucher-Vidal made for Guillaume Boucher-Vidal. That's it! That's the filter through which you need to fit in order to enjoy this game. If you don't then you will bounce off this game hard, but if you do then you will find a special gem tailored to a certain type of gamer. I picked the definitive edition at 2$ (lol) after some nut-job reviewer I follow recommended it and I got waaaaay more entertainment out of it than I expected... because I am the type of gamer…

Outward is not for everyone. It is one of my favourite games of all time; to find out if it might be one of yours, please continue reading. The Ugly The game suffers from the following: There is a lot of walking; there is no real/consistent form of fast-travel. A little rough around the edges; don't expect full voice acting or animated cutscenes—the story is largely expressed via reading dialogue text. Graphics are not cutting-edge; they are not photo-realistic or up-to-par in…
