Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 192 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (662 of 717 positive).
Some reviewers note that the game can be grindy, especially in the midgame. [1][2][3]

People have already commented exhaustively on how the overworld sprites of characters, including romances, look like children with itty bitty stunted feet. I wasn't playing this game for romances, I was playing for critters and farming, so i ignored those (valid) complaints. But the farming and critter catching is clunky, unbalanced, and such a slog to try dealing with. Contemporary games of this genre have …

My bf got me this game when I was in a bad place mentally and it helped so much. The cuteness of the blobs, the story, and the characters captivated my heart right away and I adored it from the moment I played it for the first time. It's definitely one of my favourite games, and I've played a lot of cosy games. Would 100% recommend.

(NOTE: this game did Early Access correctly which means reviews prior to May 28, 2026 1.0 full release are often not just outdated but (rightfully!) criticizing things that were fixed in the full release, especially early-game slog. It still has flaws and not everyone will like it, but a lot of criticism I've read was accurate when it was written AND is not true now!) If you like farmsims and you like creature …

This game is not for everyone, and it isn't perfect by a long shot, but it seems like the dev basically tailor-made it specifically to my tastes. Josh's Gaming Garden's review was pretty accurate: it's simple in all the ways it needs to be simple, the turn based battle mechanic is really fun (and 80% of what you'll be doing), and the creature breeding mechanic is strangely in depth in a way I like. Midgame is VERY …

Kinda fun but horribly misleading. There is no “play how you want” or freedom despite what the store page says, you either play the forced linear path or you just don’t play the game. It needs major work. I understand the visual style but the lack of/muddy textures and lack of unique and good sound effects makes it look and sound like a ps2 game. It’s nauseating. I also really dislike how railroaded it is. You HAVE …

SURPRISE 😆 Ova Magica 1.0 is officially OUT TODAY on Steam 💚 🎮 Consoles launch July 21 (Everyone also warned me not to shadow drop😂)

neutral · AI labelView post →I spend a lot of dev time for the cross-breeding feature in my game Ova Magica. Hard work, but it's one of the features players enjoy most. And i'm very proud of it💪 Here are some possible blobs 💚 + a lot more in comments⏬ #indiegame #JRPG #creaturecollecting #gamedev

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, I put thousands of development hours into Ova Magica. And it wasn't the best “business” decision. I didn't want to make another empty and soulless "cozy" game - but a real JRPG and farm sim! All of you playing tons of hours and enjoying the content, makes me so happy💚
neutral · AI labelView post →This game is very cozy with very fun breeding mechanics. Like Harvest Moon mixed with Pokemon. You can choose what you focus on in terms of quests and plot, as well as who to romance. I put over 160 hours in when it was just a demo and with the 1.0 release I'm sure I'll easily go over 200. Claudia is very active and transparent on the discord, I've watched her progress on this game for over a year there. Bug reports and unbalanced mechanics get fixed. She's worked very hard to bring this game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Share the coolest feature of your game😎: In Ova Magica you can crossbreed all critters endlessly! #gamedev #gamedesign
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm super proud of the festivals in my game Ova Magica. I spend a lot of time making each one unique and with cute decorations + mini-games! I bet no one will guess the inspiration for this one🎅🎄🤪
neutral · AI labelView post →Trying to highlight smaller indie games when I can, so: I'm currently playing Ova Magica! It's a very cute and fun game- sort of a Harvest Moon/Stardew meets Pokemon/creature raising deal. store.steampowered.com/app/1299170/...
positive · AI labelView post →Still looking for a farm game with lots of content🥕❓ Then try Ova Magica! Tons of festivals, characters with rich dialog, events and areas to explore await you💚! Oh, and did i mention that it's also a full blown JRPG in which you can breed and train cute blob creatures🐾?

neutral · AI labelView post →Huge thank you from a game dev to all the players who got my game Ova Magica in 2024! Someone playing your creation is the most rewarding for a dev💚
neutral · AI labelView post →Was trashed months ago on Reddit by people (not even playing 10 min) as "Pokemon Rip-Off" Yes it's INSPIRED by Pokemon. Ova Magica has unique mechanics for battling, hatching, breeding and it's a farm sim too! I saw today comments defending the game and pointing out the claims, which made me happy
neutral · AI labelView post →Celebrating the small goals. The revenue from Ova Magica over the last months allows me to stay a full-time game dev for now🎉💪 (and yep, i neglected my retirement savings) My dream of a small studio, especially hiring another dev, is still far away - but one step after another🗻
neutral · AI labelView post →Cute concept, adorable monsters, but this just is really wonky on the controls, finding food becomes a chore as the food does not grow fast enough to get the energy you need to be able to fget the items for each thing you need to build, cooking recipes you do not even get half the ingredients for in the first part of the game. I am always accidently eating the food when trying to feed the pets too as you have to hold shift constantly while feeding etc. That system needs work. the days are way…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spooky time in my game Ova Magica🎃
neutral · AI labelView post →As a kid, I spent countless hours playing Japanese games on Nintendo and PlayStation, dreaming of making my own one day.💕 And now, on November 10th, my very own game Ova Magica is coming to Switch(1+2!😆), Playstation 5 & Xbox! It still feels unreal. Dreams do come true! 😭💚
positive · AI labelView post →Best feeling: comfy couch, hot drink, and your favorite cozy game in hand ☕🎮 That’s why I put so much work and love into designing Ova Magica to run great on handhelds. So happy to see it paying off—and that so many of you are enjoying it 💚
neutral · AI labelView post →It's okay, I would have liked this as a kid. The reason I stopped playing is because it felt bland to me, and the people you can romance all look like children.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got to play through the full game in the pre-release beta. The game is vastly improved over the early access version and is a treat to play. Gameplay loop feels satisfying and upgrading your blobs / interacting with the villagers feels very rewarding. This quickly became a comfort game for me, one where I could just relax, and grind. Excited to hop back into it once more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We have some important news regarding Ova Magica⬇️ store.steampowered.com/news/app/129... Most important things: 📢 A MAJOR announcement is coming by the very end of May 👛 The game price will increase on April 24 (this will be the final price—it won’t increase again)
neutral · AI labelView post →I don’t know exactly why, but my game seems to be especially popular with autistic players. Some of the kindest members of the Ova Magica community are autistic. It makes me really happy that my game brings you joy 🌻 #autism #indiegame
neutral · AI labelView post →TL;DR Ova Magica has charmed me with its clever mix of creature-based RPG and farm-sim. The game is well thought out and made with obvious care. And it has its own twists! Creature raising/fighting, farming and socializing are the 3 cores that make this game whole. Each aspect supports the others, encouraging players to alternate between different objectives and giving them choices in how to progress. BLOB Smart progression system: discovering new blobs usually means unlocking new…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was tired of monster-taming games where the monsters don’t really do much and you’re just collecting them. So in my game Ova Magica, many blobs come with helpful abilities to assist with farming and other tasks 🥕💚
neutral · AI labelView post →I just want to tell the Developers, I absolutely love everything about this game and I am so happy that I found it. Thank you so much for this diamond in the rough state that gaming is in right now. This is exactly what I needed. I hope every creature collecting gamer gets a chance to play this masterpiece. 🙏🏻
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8 hours on my first session. Got home from work, turned on the PC and was ready to start another 8 hour session but I remembered I should probably write a review first. I'm not going to compare what it does to other games in the past that this game was very obviously inspired from instead im going to list things it does different that I found entertaining and made the game fun. 1. The obvious part, the monsters. Although similar to something like rune factory in that you can bring monsters…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If the 1.0 update isn't a good reason yet how about Ova Magica having the BEST stylist in any game ever (me)
neutral · AI labelView post →I'll let my hours speak to how much I enjoyed the game. The combat is pretty simple, but gameplay is nice and relaxing. If you enjoy creature collection games and customization, you'll enjoy this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heads up it is a slow grind, the battling is fun but the leveling is a bit of a struggle (I may be doing something wrong) I do recommend it if you like a game that will have you sat and learning. there are a few balance issues but again its a slow grind! the art style took me a minute to adjust to. Im looking forward to whats to come.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing and is currently tied for my favorite game of the year next to Fantasy Life! There wasn't one moment where I was bored there was always something happening or something to work on in the game. Everything from the events to the character stories and more are all so well done and there is a ton of content in early release to make it worth diving into before the full release. 10/10 and works like a dream on the steamdeck. I can't wait until the full release update comes…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game. The art style is lovely — it looks cute and cosy. But the starting stamina feels way too low. Missing catching a bug still costs stamina, which just feels unnecessarily punishing. I don’t recommend it in its current state. It’s still early access though, so I’m hoping future updates address this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game takes the most tedious parts of a farming sim and applies it to a creature collector game. Everything costs stamina and takes time, so it is a slow..........slog to feel like you've accomplished anything. Has a lot of potential but needs some quality of life adjustments. Make some tasks like watering and bug catching cost little to no stamina, rebalance the economy or provide cheaper options for basic supplies, also just have supplies to buy in general, have learning about characters…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If people ever want to try a different game.. Then I shall recommend Ova Magica. Whenever it arrives on Nintendo Switch… My friends should get it cause it’s Pokémon x Stardew Valley. Also very addictive! Blobs are so cute and really the breeding is super fun.
positive · AI labelView post →Only gave it a thumbs up considering that it is still in early access (EA). What I liked: - The system of unlocking new buildings as you develop you relation with the NPCs - The festivals (although some of them lack content) What needs improvement: - Too much grinding, please put more nodes of ores everywere, give access to caves with gold, mithril and whatever ore a player needs. - To get your pokemons (blobs) to improve you need to fight with them hundreds of times. Since the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Leaving this review at over 600 hours clocked on this game. I wanted something gentle paced and visually relaxing with enough adventure and poke around content to stay busy. Instead I got a nicely polished baby with all the genes I love from both pokemon and Stardew Valley plus some adaptations that I would consider an improvement and I am so happy. A couple of dialogue typos here and there but no major glitches or broken saves from my experiences. Please make more content! More blobs, more…

neutral · AI labelView post →Honestly, this is one of my favorite farming/creature collector games out there. And I've played nearly all of them!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, with some interesting characters and blob breeding mechanics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play Ova Magica here💚 store.steampowered.com/app/1299170/...
neutral · AI labelView post →This game is already amazing and full of content despite it being in Early Access. It's what it says on the tin: Stardew/Harvest Moon meets Pokémon (meets Slime Rancher?) and tons of cozy fun, but the best part is that you can tell how much love has been put into its creation and details. The nicest surprise to me is that this game has surprisingly good writing, for a type of game that usually doesn't have, or arguably even *need* good writing. Every character is quite charming and their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would recommend Ova Magica to anyone who enjoys the farming/life sim style games. Claudia the dev has done a phenomenal job of listening to feedback both from steam and discord. Pros - Combat is both easy to learn and intricate enough to be enjoyable - Farming is worth it, as you need many of the crops to upgrade Blobs - The NPCs all have unique personalities, and they are carefully created - The blob worlds are procedural generated, so each visit yields different rewards Cons - The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is nothing to write home about. The mechanics are all simple, and the grind is kinda annoying. If you want a rather bog-standard cozy game with basic gameplay and a decently cool breeding system this may be for you, but I can't recommend this game overall. This review isn't in bad faith; there are some things I like about this game but overall, I feel like I wouldn't be gaining much value from continuing to play. The Good Town expansion is always a welcome and fun idea, though it…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a gem among games that unites two genres that henceforth (as far as I know) have not been united. You'll like this game if: - you played the classic Pokémon Games and always wished you could do more with the Pokémon than just fight - you like all the Farming Simulation Games - you specificially enjoy the graphics of the Story of Seasons Games - you always wanted to cruise around on a Steamboard You'll not enjoy the game if: - Let's not kid around, you'll enjoy it. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't played Ova Magica yet, however the blobs look pretty cute and there's farming in this game as well as monster (blob?) fighting. I'm personally waiting for it to come out of early access, but if it looks interesting to you, check it out. store.steampowered.com/app/1299170/...
neutral · AI labelView post →Really lovely game, however doing any task takes too much energy when you don't have a lot to start with. I am 5 hours in and this is still really frustrating, it reduces the enjoyment of a really nice game, perhaps this could be improved
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most Early Access Games I'm pretty chill about, I play what's there and then forget about it for months. I think this is the first game in a LONG time that I am sitting here screaming, crying, throwing up that it is not fully out yet. That is to say: I think I'm genuinely quite bad at several of the vital components of this game and I'm STILL having a fantastic time. Everything comes together in a really fascinating way I don't think I've seen in many games before. Friendship is VITAL to story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Ova Magica; I do. Coming off the back of playing the infinitely more popular and well known "Wylde Flowers" vs this is night and day. I have also recently replayed Coral Island, a game I love and keep playing due to its freedom and depth of how you approach it. The way I see life sims is this, there are two kinds- the very indepth, sprawling, highly detailed games like Stardew Valley and Coral Island- and the more focused, simpler, boiled down games clearly made for all ages like Wylde…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction I played a lot of farming/creature collector games out there and many of them failed to satisfy me. I dunno what it is about the the Stardew x Pokemon formula that makes it so hard, but I think I finally understand why. A lot of those games tried to incorporate ALL the features of farming life sims and creature collectors in order to bring out a "complete experience" for the player. On the other hand, Ova Magica (which I affectionately nickname as "Blob Farm") does the opposite.…

positive · AI labelView post →I don't understand how more people aren't playing this. I do wish there were more events that happened, like more people moving in to create friendships with, then an event happens where a new part of the map opens up. like a forest maze or something, that leads to the guardian of the island idk. definitely cant wait to see more thats for sure!
