Planet Coaster is a business simulation video game developed and published by Frontier Developments for Windows. It was released worldwide on 17 November 2016. Frontier had previously worked in the amusement park construction and management simulation genre with RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 (to which Planet Coaster is a spiritual successor), Thrillville, Thrillville: Off the Rails, and Zoo Tycoon. Does not teach you how to play, does not tell you how to fix things going wrong, staff constantly want raises, camera movement feels bad, and the whole UI is clunky and unintuitive. Despite maps being themed, the game seems uninterested in helping you keep it on theme, and researched items don't even have pre-made structures. Planet Coaster ate my evening again. Opened the game just to fix a path that looked wrong. Three hours later I'm changing the color of a bench because it doesn't fit the pirate area anymore. Money gone, Park still half finished but that one coaster finally runs exactly the way I wanted. Also moved a lamp a few pixels. Pretty sure nobody will notice.

Planet Coaster is one of those games where you sit down to build a single ride and suddenly lose an entire evening. The coaster creation tools are insanely satisfying, while the management side stays chill enough to never feel stressful. Half the fun is designing a beautiful theme park, and the other half is watching your terrible path layout create complete guest chaos. Creative, relaxing, and dangerously addictive.

I guess I can say that it took me 4 years to perfect-achievement this game — with a gap between 2022-2024 and a gap between 2024-2026. Despite nearing its 10-year anniversary, this game is still very much worth buying. As written on its store page, this is a simulation+management+sandbox game. But it is so much more than that. It sure has some shortcomings like the confusing controls, the frustrating "intersecting …

Picked up Planet Coaster for $3 and it turned out to be an amazing deal. The creativity this game gives you is wild building coasters, designing paths, decorating every corner of your park. The learning curve is definitely steep at first, but once the controls click, the whole experience becomes incredibly rewarding. If you enjoy creative building or park management, this is absolutely worth grabbing.

Players who liked Planet Coaster talk about highly creative and customizable building tools; those who didn't talk about no tutorial for new players. Which matters more to you?

Critics, per Wikipedia

The game was met with praise upon release of the alpha. Andy Kelly of PC Gamer commented that Frontier was "off to a tremendous start", adding that creating buildings with the creation tools hinted at "immense possibilities". However, Mark Walton of Ars Technica noted several small flaws including the "hard to navigate" menus and the lack of custom built roller coasters. On 27 April 2016, about a month after the release of the alpha, Frontier announced that Planet Coaster had grossed nearly two million dollars. Matt Wales of Eurogamer recommended the game, concluding that the game is "the finest simulator yet". Meanwhile, Ben Reeves of Game Informer praised the game for its creative mode…

Planet Coaster is absolute ass in a handbag. The entire game feels like it was designed under the assumption that the community would finish developing it for free. The tools are powerful. The creations people build are incredible. The workshop is full of parks that look like professional architects were locked inside their homes for six months with unlimited caffeine. Unfortunately, the actual game is barely accessible to anyone who is not unemployed. Every minute takes an hour. You do…

Before I start, I would like to give the devs credit for trying really hard with this game, its clear that alot of effort was put into it. The graphics are great, the sound design is excellent and the amount of individual pieces you can put in your park is staggering, from that side there is alot of customization. However, the bad side, the controls are strange, for instance, building pathways is absolutely infuriating, I did get better at it but no matter how hard you try to make them…

Planet Coaster is everything I could want in a simulation game of this type. Good management tools, good building tools, and most of all, it is extremely fun to play. It's the best amusement park simulation we've seen yet, and any complaints that you might have with the variety of rides that it offers are mitigated brilliantly by the use of Steam Workshop to allow the community to broaden the experience. In this way Planet Coaster feels both nostalgic and yet eminently modern.

Fantastic Game! Although, I would highly recommend not making a sequel to a game that simply doesn't need one. Adding waterparks and coexisting mechanics would of made much more sense, than creating a whole sequel to further milk us. Be like EA is with Sims; but don't be like Paradox Interactive with Cities Skylines... for the love of god.

I wish i could put this between yes and no, because it's not a bad game. The problem comes with the fact that you are expected to do all the scenery customization for everything yourself, which can take hours just for a simple ride, and all because there is no pre-made Scenery. It can be fun to make a park from scratch, but they really should have thought about the causal players.
