Fun game, but I have one major gripe with this game (And other puzzle games that suffer from this same problem). There seems to be a disproportionate amount of RNG when it comes to getting the perfect expansion hexes and tiles to place within them for classic mode (or high-score mode). This is great for randomness' sake, but when you have to score a certain amount of points, its insanely frustrating to constantly …

I heartily recommend this game to those who enjoy strategy and puzzle games - the music is excellent, the art style is pleasant, and adapting to the differing mechanics of each map type has been a fun challenge. Game music belongs on CD. With the advent of game composition becoming more sophisticated & pristine digital audio becoming affordable via the CD, it helped VGM mature & become a viable artistic medium in the late 80s. Relegating VGM to vinyl makes no sense. Preserve your game music on CD, composers

Partner with other factions to build tools to survive. Preserve all in the face of escalating conditions.

It's not bad, per se, but might just be a bit ~too~ simple and relaxing for my taste. When I read the store-page hyping up 'multi-layered habitats and ecosystems', I expected a bit more than each tile being able to hold exactly one habitat, with each habitat being a perfectly closed off creature container from other habitats. The graphics and soundscape are pleasing, but the mechanics are uninovative and simplistic. So I'll pass on this one.

The mechanics are shallow and repetitive; the gameplay is just placing down habitat and then putting 3 different or 3 of the same animals in those habitats over and over again with only superficial variation. It gets old really fast. In addition, as with most games these days, it is extremely poorly optimized for such a small game.

The game's lovely, if a little more shallow-feeling than I expected. It's hard to put my finger on the issue, but where something like Terra Nil feels loving and granular, Preserve just feels.. distant, and written quirks like 'You saved the biodiversity!' only serve to reinforce that. Sit that with the fact that the interface is backwards (as far as I'm concerned) and only has options to fix about two thirds of those reversals... well, when a game gives me a headache because dragging with…

Cards That Shape World I really liked Terra Nil, where you try to restore Earth's ecosystems, so I was also interested in Preserve. Instead of placing buildings, you work with cards. Well, if you're lucky enough to get the right ones. That's the main problem with the game. The developers clearly tried to make each map balanced, but sometimes you just don't get the cards you need. If you want to complete all the achievements, you might find yourself restarting a map a lot, which can be…

I have enjoyed puzzle games here and there but they aren't my usual genre. I forget how I came across this game in the store but the visuals and music immediately called out to me somehow, so here I am 127 hours later. I've only played the "base" game puzzles and not dipped my toes into the challenges so far... So why haven't I gotten frustrated at myself, or bored, and moved on? Simple. This game is fun even when you "lose." Due to the aforementioned combination of the graphics, the music, and…

A fun relaxing game that's part puzzle game part building simulator, for when you just want to relax and catch a breath. The various biomes comes with their own unique challenges, that keeps the game from becoming boring and stale. It's also somewhat of a challenge, trying to find the optimal setup to get the highest score possible. While there might be an online leaderboard, for me the fun is beating my own personal high scores.

I played it on Steam Deck. So the first thing worth pointing out is that the controls are quite specific. I used the analog sticks for control. The left stick moves the cursor, while the right one controls the camera, except that depending on which trigger you press, you can use it to change the camera zoom, while the other trigger changes its tilt. After some time you can get used to these controls, and I wouldn't say they are a major downside. This is the first game where moving the cursor…

So this game is *REALLY frustrating. Take the "weekly challenge" there is a time limit. There are sea vents - the river doesn't work like normal and there is NO prompt to tell you how or why. The card says what it says but it is NOT helpful. It could be really good but the experience of being new, doing the tutorial, doing a few levels and then trying the daily challenge to get no instruction is beyond frustrating. Preserve strikes, as far as puzzle games go, a great balance in its risk-reward design. It doesn't punish you too harshly for your mistakes, nor does it forgive you too easily for making them. Its mechanics are (generally) easy to understand, but also complex enough that you'll continue inventing new card arrangements well into the endgame. And above all else, every new highscore milestone you reach and every puzzle you solve feels truly earned. You'll definitely have to put in the work if you…

I really like the relaxing athmosphere of this game, though do not be fooled, it is actually a challenging puzzle game too (at least it is for me)! If you prefer a more chill, brain off round, there is a creative mode too. The only thing I'd suggest is maybe more free "undos" as it is a pretty unforgiving game if you make a mistake. It's a shallow and restrictive RNG dependent puzzle. It felt like playing an arbitrary, nonsensical and unfun puzzle. I also disliked the repetitive music, things looking disproportionate and bad from up close, the crazy amount of bloom and saturation. To score you have to put three of a kind or three of a different kind on a habitat. Two of a kind don't score and most habitats kinds don't even have three different animals. The game is basically that.

Much like the other very similar game, Growth, this game has a great foundation, and just not enough expanded on it. It's close to having genuine depth and variety, but it ends up being pretty samey. It's alright for chilling out a few runs though. The low ammount of randomness and variety in how things can play out in a given level severely holds back the replayability. Good map variety, strategies are easy to learn but hard to master, and it's just random enough for each play through to feel different. Plus, the visuals are pleasing and the soundtrack is even better. Seriously... the soundtrack is surprisignly good.

Preserve is not only unique and creative, but it can also be very challenging, especially if you're trying to get the highest possible score. It's a puzzle game that puts a heavy emphasis on resource management and planning ahead to maximize the score you get. However, at the same time, it's peaceful and relaxing. The 2D art is pretty, the 3D models are simple but nice to look at and the music is absolute chef's kiss. An underrated gem that shows you how beautiful the nature of our planet…

Easy to learn, difficult to master. A puzzle game for everyone!

Amazing game! I just finished all map sizes of all available biomes once and did some puzzles too. You really need strategy to reach gold medals but if you are not aiming for highscores, just placing tiles is fine too. I like the leaderboards and weekly challenge! Just sad there is no endless mode (beside creative), so I'll still hit up Dorfromantik for that itch. Still a great relaxing puzzle game with 20+ hours of content!
