Project Highrise
Developer SomaSim
Project Highrise is a 2D tower-building simulation game, developed by SomaSim and published by Kasedo Games. It is considered by many to be the spiritual successor to SimTower. In the game, players take on the role of a high-rise manager who is responsible for building and maintaining a tower block, filling it with offices, apartments, shops and restaurants, which they support with utilities, while providing… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Players widely praise Project Highrise as a spiritual successor to SimTower, capturing the classic tower-building experience. [1][2][3] Many find the game deeply engaging and addictive, often losing track of time while playing. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note that the game can be challenging to learn and has frustrating mechanics like tenant behavior and maintenance costs. [7][8][9]

Making Sim Tower harder and more complicated doesn't actually make it better.

So I rate this as top-tier in it's genre, it has all the depth an complexity that you would want it to have based on the premise - basically being a large building planning professional but then having to act as the infuriated Facilities Management boss too It makes you grumpy in all the good ways for a game of this type, OBVIOUSLY your sleek plans forgot a few small factors that could completely crucify your …

Project Highrise is a spiritual successor to SimTower. Building from humble beginnings to a massive skyscraper. Players have to manage power, water, gas, air, phone, and air conditioning to units in the tower as well as managing noise levels, smells, visibility, and availability of extra services for tenants. Critics, per Wikipedia
Project Highrise has a score of 73/100 on Metacritic. The game garnering a 7 out of 10 review score from IGN, and an 8 out of 10 from IGN Germany. IGN praised Project Highrise for being able to quickly and easily craft a smooth, self-sufficient system from the ground up thanks to a welcoming and fast-paced simplicity, and Rock, Paper, Shotgun called the ability for the player to easily understand what was going on, despite the deep levels of complexity, the game's biggest achievement. Despite the praise, Project Highrise was also criticized for its lack of personality due to its artistic style and color palette. The way each room looked was thought to be too similar and as such, larger…

It's dedicated to "tycoon simulation" and management games. Things like Rollercoaster Tycoon, Transport Fever and Project Highrise. While engagement and posts not made by me could be better, I feel like there is a solid growth trajectory. I also have a Mastodon account: https://mstdn.games/@Landgraab_Industries I cross-post (manually) more prominent posts from the Lemmy…
neutral · AI labelView post →Super solid idea, decent delivery. Never knew there was an interest in building a highrise and managing one. Certainly after playing this game I have more of an appreciation to how much work can go into managing such a large building. Fun concept which shine can wear off quickly for some. Project's Highrise gameplay and controls are mostly coordinated and determined by the mouse. A large part of the game is played with the mouse. Not a major issue, but it feels like there is minimum…

Just the right amount of difficulty to allow you to focus on the silly little absurdities of your burgeoning skyscraper. Hugely recommend it. Enormously satisfying game.

neutral · AI labelView post →It's a good game. Scratches the itch for those like myself who loved SimTower and YootTower back in the day. It's about a decade old now and hasn't had any major updates since 2018, so once you've completed all the scenarios there isn't much left to do (though there are a lot of them, to be fair). If you think you'd enjoy a tower-building game where you can make apartments, offices, restaurants, and shops, keep your residents happy and earn some money while doing so, Project Highrise won't…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love everything about this game. I like the music, the different challenges, the need for strategy, and how much there is to learn, It's definitely a building sim with no character development or storylines. I loved Sims Tower back in the day and this gameplay is superior to that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved this game. Project Highrise sort of scratches that itch but it doesn't have that 90s era Maxis style to it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Project Highrise and Mad Tower Tycoon - both games are great spiritual successors to SimTower. I would even go as far saying they offer a slightly different spin on the tower building genre. Does Two Point Hospital count? It's pretty much Theme Hospital but without the brand name. Parkitect and Rollercoaster Tycoon - they do add a lot of new features and gameplay mechanics. Modding has also supercharged the experience, their workshop feels like it has content on every theme in large…

neutral · AI labelView post →Kind of. *SimTower* really leaned into building traffic control. You would need to do things like build commercial spaces to get escalators, then demolish them to artificialy increase the number of floors you didn't need elevators for. *Project Highrise* is mainly an economic sim. You need to plan out expansion to meet contracts or get to sustainability before running out of money. The argument regarding elevators in that game is more when you can afford them or you are forced to buy them…

neutral · AI labelView post →If you like Sims Tower you'll like this game. The learning curve can be a little high in terms of balancing costs and growth, but it's a great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Took a few tries to understand what the best move is but once you find the right momentum it gets going and is absolutely fun. Though I would love if you could find out the sizes of different areas even when you don't have access to it yet or see what different types of areas need before placing them so you can prepare in advance. Otherwise, the game is very satisfying in making you feel the efficiency of your work.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NO and HELL NO. On easy I can never get anything going at all because of two factors in every ####EN game i have tried. I've spent hours restarting and trying. FACTOR 1 MAINTENANCE cost are ridiculous. When starting it takes 4-6 offices to make enough money to support the electric and phone cost. Elevators are 50/each so they way game works elevator from floor 1 to floor 2 is 100 per day!!!!! FACTOR 2 TENANTS WILL BECOME UNHAPPY WAY TO MUCH AND M0VE OUT OVER ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not fun. It's not hard but the things you do in this game just aren't that interesting. I used to play a similar game on my phone on android, but this does not scratch that itch I have. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was kind of hard to get into at first, because it seems so minimalist, yet strangely complicated, I thought I could do it without tutorials, but I suffered. Just play the tutorials, they are short and sweet. Everything makes sense once you turn a profit. You need offices and apartments, first, and in that order, to make money. Offices are simpler. They have specific requirements. Apartments require more care/upkeep, as their requirements are more deep. You need to manage trash,…

positive · AI labelView post →It's a portable gaming device. It is in the same market. You can play complex strategy games that require strong CPUs like Project Highrise, The Final Earth 2, Mega Mall Story 2 on mobile. You won't be able to run The Final Earth 2 even with the standard *mobile* population limit on a Switch because it uses an ancient CPU and it's a quad core. Don't limit yourself by Nintendo PR and marketing. The gaming world (portable or otherwise) is not limited to Nintendo.
neutral · AI labelView post →Been playing Project Highrise for the last few hours, 'the spiritual successor to Simtower' - fucken high bar to meet but it's doing well so far! Currently just sitting at a place where i've overstretched my finances (but the game has shown me how that's happened)
positive · AI labelView post →Well you don't really need any high-end CPU as a necessity, such products are essentially luxury goods. One area where you truly do benefit from strong CPUs (and the X3D) are indie/AA "tycoon" and "economic strategy" games. Although they are never mentioned in reviews or really talked about in the mainstream press. A seemingly simple game like [Final Earth 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1180130/The_Final_Earth_2/) will bring a relatively modern high-end CPU to its knees if you have a…
neutral · AI labelView post →I can strongly recommend this game. It's has similarities to SimTower / Project Highrise, but with its own spin with a more detailed employee management system, custom item placing (this is is big in terms of gameplay impact) and casino-specific building elements. There is lot's of stuff to focus own beyond the casino elements. Nice visual style as well. While the current stable EA release is solid, the developer has been working on massive upgrade which should be released in the coming…

It's got the right mix of complexity and fun gameplay so far, and is a chill experience. I can see big cities could get a bit more frantic to manage. I'm surprised it's been out since…

positive · AI labelView post →Even turning a profit wasn't enough to make me wanna keep playing - good game though! 😂 There's a lot of reading, text, icons and numbers, which isn't great for my ADHD. I prefer visual direction, but the tutorials only explain things once an issue comes up. I was especially confused trying to connect electricity and water. To put it simply, the tutorial feels very messy. Once I did get the hang of things, building was satisfying! I liked the drag and drop, the music, the sound effects…
