Steam really needs to add a meh or middling option for their review system. Rhombus of Ruin is a sweet mini intetmission for the true sequel gme and it showcases a lot of the innovations and improvements of graphics for the first new Psychonauts game in over 12 years with smoother models, great animation oozing with personality, and beautiful environmental setpieces retaining the whimsical and odd style. The writing …

This is a fun little VR experience for fans of Psychonauts (once you get it working) First of all I love Psychonauts 1 and 2 so that probably makes me favourably inclined to this title. On the other hand I hate random point and click games, and Rhombus of Ruin is very much a point and click adventure where doing somewhat random things to progress is the order of the day. Mercifully, the puzzles are not stupidly …

Lovely art and imaginative uses of changes in perspective in VR, designed to enjoy VR without making you dizzy. Gameplay is relaxed, with light exploration and puzzle-solving in a point and click adventure style where you feel like a real Psychonaut using your psychic powers. It's a chance to learn a bit more about the charming main characters of Psychonauts, with genuinely funny bits and an arresting and emotional …

Pros: - Graphics have made a significant jump and it's wonderful to experience this world in VR. - The voice acting is excellent as always. - Controls are easy to learn. - Soundtrack is enjoyable. …

60 of 210 · most liked firstPsychonauts, 3D platformer with crazy creativity. The first Psychonauts is a true Tim Schafer game: unconventional and a bit absurd, but funny and entertaining nonetheless. And make no mistake, this game is old, as is obvious by the graphics and certain game designs. And while the art style is unique, is grotesqueness is also not for everybody, sure. But I first played it a few years ago and so can say: even without nostalgia googles, it is a fun collectathon in today's age, if you can forgive…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don’t have a VR headset, and I just bought the game. Honestly, I don’t even care whether I get to play it or not. Recently, Double Fine went through major layoffs. I’m a true Psychonauts fan. I still remember when the game was first announced on MTV Turkey. I’ll never forget that day. The ideas shown in that trailer were so mind-blowing.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing experience, but not without glaring issues... Before I can praise this game, I need to address the HUGE elephant in the room — this game DOES NOT support Steam Link, which is just baffling. That's like selling a game on a PlayStation and asking the player to buy an Xbox Kinect. To play this game, you either need to buy a third-party software called Virtual Desktop OR download the necessary software to use QuestLink. Hopefully, it goes without saying, this is ridiculous. If it's on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Does this game work with the Valve Index? Yes. ✅ Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is one trippy ride, let me tell you. Welcome back to the Vive era! You might have to figure out what Index buttons correspond to the wand tutorials, but nothing hard to figure out. For some reason, you control most of the game with your head. It can be really cool, in some sequences where looking at something will trigger a voice line or an action, but also means that after an hour or two you might experience…

Guess now I can eventually do Psychonauts 2 as well. #blutoid #psvr #psychonauts

neutral · AI labelView post →Don't have any doubt, this game is an Psychonauts game, not just a weird token VR pitstop. For a almost decade old VR game, it holds up. Its a completed seated VR experience and for what it its, it works just fine. You don't need a motion controller of any sorts, everything is control with 4 degrees of movement with some leniency on the 6th if you so please. That being said you definitely shouldn't play this on a phoneVR if that's all you have + a controller/keyboard. You can definitely get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Note for VR players: This game has very minimal and limited actions that can be taken which makes the VR experience one of the poorest I’ve had. Over all, this game is full of puzzles and is sort of hard, but also presents itself as something so cheesy and cringey, that it appears as though mostly little kids would enjoy this title. Not a fan
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR; If you really want to get this game for more Psychonaut content, achievements, and something to play around on VR, grab this game on a sale (I got it when it was 80% off). The game is more of a glorified tech demo as the VR craze was really taking off. If you want the story, it's short enough to just watch a couple videos on YouTube. Taking place right after the events of the first game, this sequel is more of a 1.5 than a direct. We follow Raz, Lili, Sasha, Oleander, and Milla heading…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When it comes to gaming, I believed VR games are a pointless waste of time, for quite a while. Then I played "Psychonauts: In the Rhombus of Ruin" and had **so** much fun, it's amazing! VR definitely has a place, but it's still quite expensive. What I'm really waiting for is an affordable VR headset with a high enough resolution to watch 3D movies comfortably. I have a PSVR1 and I've watched TRON: Legacy on it, but the resolution is a bit too shitty to really enjoy it. It's passable for games,…
positive · AI labelView post →The controls especially on Quest 2/3 controllers are not good for this game, it makes you click down the sticks since it was built around the Valve Index couple that along with the part of the opening UI that floats just outside your vision to the point where you can see it but not clearly and i don't recommend this It's hardly even a game, its more just a click and point game in VR, not worth it imo
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute PAIN to get this game to run....However, I really did enjoy it when I finally got it working! Was so cool to get to see these characters up-close. Special thanks to my good friend who lent me their VR headset for this game (u know who u are)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short point-and-click adventure set in the Psychonauts universe. For some strange reason, I couldn’t launch the game directly through SteamVR without it crashing. Launching the executable directly or using Quest Link worked fine, but it wouldn’t track my playtime or achievements through Steam. My workaround was to first launch Quest Link and then launch SteamVR through and then finally run the game. All the characters you’ve grown to love from the original Psychonauts return with the same…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →no reason to be in vr
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love me some Psychonauts, but I didn't really see any reason that this piece of the puzzle had to be VR given its fairly low stakes point-and-click format (though for fairly usual reasons for the medium I suppose I'm glad it was.) Enjoyable couple hours, I just don't think fans who watched playthroughs or skipped it entirely need any guilt weighing on them about it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To get this game running on my Quest 3. I had to launch Steam VR from inside the quest environment over air link, Steam link would not work for me. Once Steam VR was running inside air link then I launched the game on Steam VR inside my headset. If you see the "outside" of the play space just move your head back in, I found myself inside a bulkhead sometimes. I did receive the Steam achievements. I did pick up this game at $3 and I can't complain about that. In conclusion, I liked this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cool experience, though try to find it on sale if that happens at all, due to the short runtime. Its basic gameplay wise, but for psychonauts fans having a physical presence in that world is a really valuable feeling. It was a great re-entry point to the psychonauts franchise after so long, and probably maintains the atmosphere of the original game quite a bit better than the full sequel does, though even by this point some of the darker edges of psychonauts were beginning to be sanded off.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically a point and click adventure in VR, very charming, short and sweet.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely Exceptional. Tim Schafer and everyone at DoubleFine have pushed the limits for what a seated, non-motion control VR game can absolutely be. It by no means is a limitation to this game, and that's what makes this a remarkable title. I dont think there is a single game that has done so much with so little before. WOW. A must play. Got this one sale for $6 and had I need to buy it again I would happily pay full price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 just watch the story on youtube, gameplay is janky to the max only about an hour and a half of game play
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story: Although it's a short experience, it does give some insight into what happened between Psychonauts 1 and 2 and some important backstory and character developments. Gameplay: It obviously doesn't play like the other two games, but it does give a VR twist to Raz's main psycho abilities, which was fun. Also, The gimmick of a VR experience and being inside the world of Psychonauts, was quite enjoyable. Technicality: As I played on Valve Index, they did not update the control scheme for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're thinking if you should get this game for the sake of completeness then you should probably go out and buy a VR for this. Otherwise you're not missing out much on the story and can straight up hop on Psychonauts 2 with no regrets. Psychopaths in the rhombus of ruin(edited). Is a first person puzzle game where you play as Raz trying to save Truman and your friends from the rhombus of ruin (Bermuda triangle parody). The game has some really good jokes and the environment it's set in is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hours of debugging later - this game outright CAN NOT be played on quest 3
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A huge disappointment and one of the weakest high-budget VR games I've played. Almost no meaningful hand interaction, frustrating trial-and-error puzzles, and constant reliance on guessing what the developers expect rather than logical deduction. I spent more time checking YouTube than actually solving puzzles
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too much praise for what's essentially just an okay game. It's simultaneously both very short and very drawn-out. You can beat game in under 2 hours, but at least one 1 of those 2 hours you'd spend waiting for the next teleportation point to arrive at it's destination. I mean, don't get me wrong, the big location where you spend most of your gameplay time jumping between fishes is rather beautiful, but not 2-3 minutes per fish repeat x20 times beautiful. The only good moment is at the end…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was alright. Getting it to work through my Meta Quest over PC was a pain depending on how I connected. Virtual remote pc would give map the controls to weird buttons but somehow using Meta's pc link would map them correctly. Either way the VR experience itself was very cool.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally played Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin. Was a really fun game! Actually had some moments in there where I was like "oh shit, this is really cool." None of the VR mechanics felt forced, super enjoyable.
positive · AI labelView post →Crashes every time I launch when using Steam Link. Double Fine refuse to fix it. Was told Virtual Desktop would be a better alternative, but I'm not paying $25 for a program just to play 1 game (that would've worked better as a NON VR point-&-click). Save your money. You're better off watching a let's play on YouTube.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rhombus of Ruin is a charming short VR adventure that every Psychonauts enjoyer should play at least once. While it comes with a lot of issues shared with many similar PSVR1 ports, the writing is just as good as its predecessor and the vibes are immaculate. Just give up playing it with any kind of VR Controllers and use a traditional pad instead, the game will work MUCH better. Also don't wanna be dramatic but i would literally die for Lili

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The vr game set in a world of a game I loved... I waited to play 2 till I got vr and could play this game, don't make the mistake I made, just watch it played on youtube and be done with it, this game is an overly simplistic point and click adventure, with 3 points where you will get stuck for a while. don't get me wrong, I personally don't regret buying this and playing it, the humor, the characters, I love it all, its fun how they play with scale, its amazing how the artstyle is even better…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good, short VR experience. Shame its VR only. Highly recommend you only buy when on sale, or the The Complete Psychonauts Series Bundle is a good deal as long as you are missing either Psychonauts 1 or 2. But hard to justify the $20 pricetag for what you get in this game alone.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(I only have PSVR1 so I'm unsure which (if any) of these are available on PSVR2) Rez VR can be tuned to be played almost entirely with the headset Pistol Whip can be played with one hand, but it's generally a "high impact" game where you dodge things, so it might not be the best choice. Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin uses the regular controller, but mostly a button or two. you mostly just look around with the headset Superhot can mostly be played with one hand, though one move needs…
neutral · AI labelView post →Great VR game all-in-all. I'd argue it'd be a great first VR title for someone who hasn't tried VR games before since you only teleport in the game, so if you easily get motion sickness with movement, this game is great for you. The voice acting and writing is amazing that I actually feel sad whenever I accidentally skipped it by teleporting. The game looks amazing, their art style is surprisingly nice to look at up close. If there's anything to complain about, it'd be that there's a little…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Psychonauts VR point-and-click game that isn't good at being any of those three things. I wouldn’t recommend this even at the $4.99 sale price. The writing is about as good as the other Psychonauts games (which I enjoyed), but the gameplay isn’t fun by either Psychonauts or point-and-click standards, and the VR implementation feels pointless and underutilized (not to mention the button mapping is backwards if you’re using Index controllers). If you're a fan of the series and want to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's soooo good I love it, a nice short and sweet bridge in between Psychonauts 1 and 2, and just a rlly good VR Physics Puzzler, It's so peak, I'm so glad I finally got to play it (kinda had to cheat in the last 3 story achievements because they didn't pop for some reason, VR bs, VR pisses me off sometimes)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rhombus of Ruin is a direct sequel to the first Psychonauts game and works as a bridge between the first and the second mainline games. After a 13 year break, it's interesting that they chose to make a VR experience. I used a Valve Index in my playthrough, and if it wasn't for a guide it would have been an extremely frustrating experience, as the controls are very unintuitive and you can't change the key bindings. Other VR controllers might have an easier time. After restarting the game the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rhombus of Ruin is a great short title, the hours on this review is literally how long it took to beat the game (albeit I did use a nudging guide at 1 or 2 parts). The Cons: - Rhombus of ruin suffers from the same things a lot of modern VR titles do where the control scheme is only set for one type of headset, so using others gets a bit disorienting, for instance I have a Valve Index and the button mapping was different as opposed to what they show you in the tutorials for how to use the…
