What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 267 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (11,069 of 13,524 positive).
Many reviewers report game-breaking bugs, softlocks, and broken core mechanics at launch. [1][2][3] Some players find the campaign short and repetitive, with shallow upgrades. [4][5][6]

If you're interest in buying, WAIT on this game for now. Though it doesn't say it, this game FEELS early access. It's way too buggy for a "Full Release" title and it needs QOL adjustments to some pretty annoying features. Some examples of what I mean: - When using the X-ray, contraband will NOT show up visually. The only way to see it is by hovering your mouse back and forth until the "E" button lights on the bottom …

Yes, the game is fun, but the number of bugs I encountered in just 2 hours is a joke. The game soft-locked me twice, forcing me to restart. I also experienced several graphical glitches. A major issue is the flashlight: it worked fine in the demo, but in the full release it’s broken. I mean, come on—don’t you have testers for this? At the moment, this game is not worth its price. I regret buying it. After so many …

PSA: DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR BASE UNTIL PROMPTED, it will softlock you out and need to restart the campaign Hope they patch this soon. otherwise, great game 10/10 will keep Crazy Dave in my base! ==Update== They patched the softlock mentioned above If only they can provide us with a better flashlight, this lousy crap keeps flickering and so dim smh And fix the toggle to crouch too while you're at it!

Gives strong vibes of both 'Papers, Please!' and 'Contraband police' but for zombies. Very good game with a unique idea and setting, not something that you see these days.

This game is nice but incredibly short for a campaign. But that is okay because I got bored playing in the last days. The endless mode is available though. And I mean to address the developers: You have to add more features , more gameplay and trading cards. Do not abandon the game. I wish you all the best 7.5/10 - a decent level

Players who liked Quarantine Zone: The Last Check talk about runs well on Steam Deck with good controls; those who didn't talk about numerous bugs and softlocks at launch. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Quarantine Zone: The Last Check received "mixed or average" reviews from critics, according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. Fellow review aggregator OpenCritic assessed that the game received fair approval, being recommended by 41% of critics. It sold over 500,000 copies in the first week of its release. The game's quickly engaging gameplay concept was praised, as it remains motivating through the continuous unlocking of additional tools and symptoms. Criticism was directed at its technical lack of polish: the release version reportedly still contained many graphical and gameplay bugs, and the potential of the game engine was not fully utilized. Base management was also seen…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good foundation for a game but for the love of GOD please stop adding meme references and twitch streamers. Absolutely horrible for immersion. I was really hoping this would be a tense game where you have to balance between human morality and the pressure to reach a quota of extracted survivors. It just turns into a reddit-tier meme fest that constantly sabotages itself by trying to be funny. Edit: Humor and what you find funny is subjective. Believe me, I love brain rot too. But I firmly…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought Quarantine Zone: The Last Check expecting a tense zombie management sim and instead got promoted to the most stressful customer service job in the apocalypse. Five stars, would absolutely deny entry again. This game turns you into the bouncer of the end times. Every survivor waddles up looking suspicious, coughing like they just ate drywall, and it is your job to decide if they get safety or a fast track to the lab where science definitely does not ask for consent. The screening tools…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quarantine Zone is one of those games that pretends it's going to be tense, stressful and full of tough decisions... and then turns into a very polite spreadsheet with zombies. The idea is actually cool. You sit at a checkpoint during a zombie outbreak, scan people, look for symptoms, and decide who gets in. Sounds like pressure, right? Moral dilemmas, panic, "oh no, what if I mess this up"? Yeah. No. The game is ridiculously easy. Within the first 30-40 minutes, you already know everything.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game either needed to be released in Early Access, or should have been delayed a couple more months. As others have reported, there are numerous bugs, glitches, and frustrations present throughout the game. However, many of them do not come into play until a few hours into the game; had I come across even a couple of the bugs I've seen or others have seen, I would have requested a refund and waited for a few more patches. As it is, cannot recommend the game in its current state. Wait for either…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the game play is fun, the amount of game-breaking bugs is abysmal. Bugs that prevent core mechanics of game play, such as contraband items not being visible on the X-Ray machine, should not be occurring on release day. We should not normalize this. This game should have remained in development or perhaps been released as Early Access. At this time, I would not recommend this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a tough one. The gameplay if fun enough, but for the cost it doesnt seem worth it. The campaign is over in a blink, and the endless gameplay is insanely repetitive with little desire to continue. If the price lowers to half the cost i may change my opinion, but at its current cost not worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game taught me I should never be trusted with power. I let one ‘hot looking’ guy through and now the world is over.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This really leans into being streamer bait over a fully realized simulator. A lot of the in-game information is weirdly flawed and misleading, like the pale skin symptom being taken under really blown out lighting when in-game people with pale skin are actually purple. The in-game handbook misled me into thinking cigarettes and garlic were contraband because their examples didn't bother to hide items that aren't contraband. The upgrades are extremely shallow to the point where you will play…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyable for the first 1-2 hours, but then the game becomes super repetitive with very little reward. I finished the campaign in about 5 hours, wishing I had spent that time on a different title. For (normally) $20, there's not much content in what appears to be an incomplete game. The developers try to make it seem like every choice matters, but there's only two outcomes: you let in an infected or you don't. The game is really gimmicky. I suggest passing on this one and simply watching a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seems like a fun enough game, but I refunded it because it's not colorblind friendly. I wont give a thumbs down though because it's not the developer's fault that I'm colorblind, but beware if you plan on buying this game that there's a lot of discerning shades of red and green.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good game but I hate the drone part, It's just not my thing and I feel it just gets in the way of the rest of the game, it would be better if they gave an option to turn off that mode and maybe offer more bonuses for those who use it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game uses AI generated assets. The game does not disclose that is uses AI generated assests. The dev team denies using AI generated assests when AI generated assets are clearly seen. Let me know when y'all see that wacky magazine cover with that sketchy looking godzilla called "Donala" show up on the survivors gear table. Shame on the devs for using AI and double shame on them for lying about it. They put more money and time into cameos from streamers than they did into their own art and…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sad about this game as it was extremely fun up until you unlock the stethoscope. On that day, people come into the checkpoint with symptoms you can't even look for yet with the tools you have. This leads to feeling like I'm continually being punished with "poor inspection" when it's not even my fault? I had to look up the symptom I was missing (because of course, the game doesn't tell you or give you any kind of information or clue) and found out that I needed the x-ray to correctly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I could, I would give this game a neutral rating, but sadly that's not an option. It's not a bad game per se, but it's not great either. The gameplay loop is just look at people, get a new piece of equipment, sleep, occasionally shoot gun, and repeat, so it can get a little old fast. The game has so many bugs, and for a game of this style, WHY IS THERE NO WAY TO SEE WHAT YOU DID WRONG IN AN INSPECTION??? I could get over some of the bugs, the copious amounts of immersion breaking NPCs (we…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's nice. For the first half hour. An interesting approach to a zombie game. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and there are little action sequences here and there that break up the gameplay. Technically not very impressive, but it doesn't need to be. It's a shame, though, that the immersion suffers because of a few things. For example, NPCs don't look at YOU, but always look in one direction, even when they're talking to you. But the worst thing is the bug that has already been mentioned…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AMD users beware. In its current state I don't recommend it. It's certainly fun, it's not the gameplay that I have issue with. AMD users have been known to crash, and the current fix they offer us is a pop-up window on game startup asking players to downgrade their AMD graphics drivers... I didn't buy a new computer to keep up with newer games' graphical demands just to have to downgrade to play this. Very odd. I'm holding out hope that it will be properly fixed within a week, but if it…

But Trial/Error Gameplay and Launch Bugs Drag it Down Game is fun and scratches that primal "Papers, Please" itch. However, it comes with its own gameplay logic issues and obvious cut corners at launch. 1. A large chunk of research points (for base upgrades) comes from noting observations on checkpoint survivors. Just remember: The outcome doesn't matter—it's the process. Spot a massive bite on their forehead (clear infection sign) and immediately…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game has taken a weird direction of just cameo cameo cameo. A lot of the updates just keep adding crossover characters from other games, most you won’t even recognise, and they show up near daily during gameplay. Even if you don’t recognise them, you still know when it’s one because they break up the flow of the game. They come with weird character details, like one of the earlier ones being a skeleton in a hoodie, or they’re just overly detailed and feel completely out of place.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the devs never cared about this game and its longevity it only seemed like they cared in the beginning due to the publicity from streamers and then it went right to cameo catch all from streamers to game characters and hardly any proper fixes or actual real content that isn't just a boring cameo. also they have rigged this game to make it seem like streamers are missing symptoms to get people to buy this game to see if they can do better than these streamers are. how i know is because after…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely buggy on release. Several softlock conditions requiring resetting your save. Bugs often mean you are severely penalized for things that the game did not give evidence of.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game still has a lot of softlocks. Should be in early access. Edit: I completed the game and got bored after halfway through. The concept is nice, but somehow it’s not working out. There aren’t many tasks that offer variety and the gameplay feels low on events besides the daily scanning.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright. Quarantine Zone: The Last Check is done and dusted. This is a checkpoint simulation game set during a zombie apocalypse. QZTLC is a fun spin on "Papers, Please" style gaming and didn't overstay its welcome over the 16 hours it took me to complete a run with the good ending. You, the unnamed protagonist, are in charge of checking each person trying to come through the checkpoint to confirm whether they are healthy or infected.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the demo and the game feels like the demo has been looped 10 times. The general gameplay is fine at first until you notice the lack of depth. The campaign feels lifeless the only difference between it and endless are the 'missions' which are poorly implemented and dull. Not only are there very few missions they require a very specific path to be followed to get content out of them. It lacks the character of Papers Please which makes any moral choices have impact for the player. The…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really wanted to like this but it falls short, especially for the price. Feels early access/unpolished. The main gameplay loop starts frustrating because you don't have access to all the tools and the suddenly flips into tedious once you have too many tools. I'm maybe an hour away from completing the campaign but I just can't be bothered. (played maybe 8 hours - the number record is bigger because i left the game running because it only saves once every in-game day.) Pros: - neat idea -…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game needs probably another 6 months of bug squashing before you pick it up as it is a good idea but sadly at this moment it is plagued with many bugs. Had to alt+f4 after the tutorial as I got stuck in building mode as the game explained how to purchase fuel, fuel I bought the previous day. Then there is an issue with poor inspections, despite checking people over and knowing 100% that they are fine the game declares them poor inspections; apparently this is prone to happening as the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY THIS! ... for now, wait for bug fixes and sale. This game is not finished. It's riddled with bugs and lacks any kind of story. The whole game is just the inspections and a few really bad sidequests. Papers Please was awesome because of the overarcing story and contraband was interesting because of that. This Game is in the same genre but lacks any interesting story elements. It feels like an early access title. The mechanics are there and it's a working concept but there is not…

The demo was a banger, I genuinely couldn't stop thinking about the demo the entire dev cycle. However, after buying it within 30 minutes of it releasing, I gotta say, it didn't really live up to what I had hoped for. Too often do symptoms just not appear and contraband is not explained well whatsoever. The tutorial/story content can easily screw you. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Might change my review if the devs fix the issues. Most notably you randomly fail check ups on survivors and you have no idea what you did miss or did wrong, no feedback whatsoever so you keep doing the same mistake over and over again hopeless to understand what the hell the game wants from you. No thanks, I ended up killing all survivors out of frustation and shutting down the game,

I have been fortunate and have not experienced any major bugs within my 11 hours of playtime, and have also had no performance issues of note. The only annoyance was playing with controller. The sensitivity does not adjust well and feels out of control especially in the defense segments with the drone. Other than that the gameplay loop is fairly simple. You run a checkpoint during…
