A little disappointed.. it's not a bad game but it lacks variety, after a few hours it proves to be the same thing all the time. It would probably be enough to increase the content and variety in the monsters a little. The soundtrack clashes a bit with the game theme. At the moment I don't feel like recommending it, it's leaving me a bit bored. 5/10 my rating

Just so y'all know (because we use Unreal Engine 5), fuck Epic Games, UE6, and gen ai. We will NEVER use gen ai in the production of Rad Venture or any future projects. Gen ai is a tool of fascism. Game devs who use gen ai in any capacity should be shamed and ostracized. Have a Rad screenshot

It's a 'RAD" game in some ways but ultimately the slow pace of progression combined with the randomness of you getting a good combination going or not so good (most likely) plus the awkward and mediocre combat kill the meat of the gameplay for me. If you can get it cheap (it's under a buck on key resellers) I suggest giving it a go but otherwise there's a lot better action roguelites to spend your time on.

This is a half-baked product. Graphics, atmosphere, music, animations and world - everything is really well done. Interesting character mutation mechanics. But as a roguelike it fails miserably, because all playthroughs are very similar to each other. There are only 3 different locations. Every location has 2 levels. Many things are unexplained at all. The game is not THAT hard. You can quickly learn every enemies' attack/defense mechanics and if you go slowly - you can comfortably survive…

Decent Roguelike but not the best RAD is a roguelike brawler game presented in a top down view. The game story is set in a fictional world where two nuclear apocalypse has happened. The story is minimal but there is a narrator who tells some lines if you enter a new world. The very name RAD means radioactive, the game's cover shows a girl holding a bat, has a blue tail and some kind of a buddy/sidekick. If you look closely, her legs also have some different colours. In the game, these…

6/10 - worth your time and money only if you love the genre and have played the better games available. This is a strange and lovingly made game I wanted to enjoy, but it just didn't engage me at all. Personally, I don't think the combat is very fun, rewarding, or challenging and since this is a roguelite combat is the only gameplay loop that really matters. RAD has a lot of good ideas. If it had come out a few years earlier, it would have seen more success. But in today's landscape of rogue-lites, it is easily outclassed by its competition. Rad has a few standout qualities. Each run has decent variety in gameplay mechanics due to the mutation system. Depending on the mutations you randomly get, you have to think differently about how to move around the environment, avoid enemy attacks, and engage in combat effectively. It made for some great…

There's random and then there's way too random: Going entire levels without a single healing item... Or picking the healing items drop perk and then getting nothing but healing items... Getting level after level of broken mutation machines... Using the key drop perk and never seeing a single chest to unlock... It also doesnt help that the game explains NOTHING, what so ever. Some exploration and experimentation is cool, but taking away abilities mid-run with no confirmation or explanation…

The game is fundamentally boring. You repeat the same first levels every time you die, without a clear sense of progressing your character, instead relying on finding the same pickups again to make your run feel like you're getting somewhere. After each run, I'm supposedly unlocking things, but I can't find them anywhere, and they don't affect my following runs whatsoever.

I found myself often lost in this game. The game doesn't even try to explain itself but you somewhat get to understand how it works. On the sheet, it is simple. It is one of the action roguelikes or should I say Double Fine's poor attempt to gain benefits from a popular genre like their any post-2010-2011 (except for Costume Quest 2 maybe) projects? RAD is pleasant and polished, but also extremely repetitive. As rogue-likes go, this one plays more like an arcade game: kludgy controls, sparse variety and weak persistent systems. PROS: Aesthetics -- RAD looks and sounds great. It has a very strong 80s style and setting, which it captures perfectly. Nostalgia -- I have to admit that I sincerely enjoyed the sound track and aesthetic. To hear the narrator randomly and unironically call out "Rad!" or "Baby Needs a New Pair of Shoes" or…

it's got an art style. aside from that the runs are long and unrewarding. bosses are many varieties of mutant blob. like toys for tots. combat is loose. so loose you'll find it hard to hit your target. certain arenas change the camera angle and throw you off aiming and dodging. the character abilities are cool looking and in combination you are a true mutant (thanks to the technology) but will always be wildly ineffective thanks to the damage tuning and aforementioned looseness.

Pros: mutations are fun, world design is fantastic with fun lore drops, it was fun to explore and discover things in this world, and combat was fun. All in all, very fun to play, for a while. Cons: I know this isn’t really a story based game, but the world and lore was interesting enough I started getting interested in the story development with each successful run. Right, so here's the thing about RAD - or whatever roguelike you've cornered me into reviewing this week - I'm mixed on it. Not because it's bad. It's genuinely not bad. It just doesn't grab me by the collar and scream "ONE MORE RUN" at two in the morning, which, let's be honest, is the entire point of the genre. That's the whole con. That's the magic trick. And I'm a picky sod when it comes to roguelikes and roguelites, so forgive me for having standards. Now, before the developers start…

It was a fun game. Unfortunately it was a little lackluster for content in terms of a roguelike. I tried to really 100% everything in this game but it is just a little tedious and a little bland. Still worth it if you get it on sale, the 80s aesthetic is super cheesy and wonderfully fun. It's perfect in that regard, but it gets a little stale, and doesn't have the longevity of other roguelikes.

The combat is sluggish and your timing on even the weakest of enemies is crucial which makes for a poor hack-and-slash game. It's also quite difficult and the RNG is far too stingy. It looks pretty and the levels are fun to traverse, but when combat is the thing you'll be doing the most and it isn't fun, it doesn't make for an enjoyable experience

The worst part about RAD is how sadly overlooked it is. The art style is amazing. The control is tight. The lore is light but just engaging enough to pay attention to. The difficulty may put off some players, but, for me, it seems to replicate the "old-school" factor of investing play time to gain skill. I can't say I'd give it the highest possible recommendation, because I'm sure it's not for everyone, but I have no trouble telling THE WORLD it's worth a look.

RAD is a console ported 3D rendered top down action brawler with a 1980s/Neon/Cel Shaded/Post apocalyptic theme. Gameplay consists of running through samey, procedurally generated bashing up weird toxic mutant animals collecting powerups, and trying to work out what the heck is going on, because the game lacks any proper tutorial, guides or instruction.
