Was an instant impulse-buy until I noticed — a day-1 DLC that actually affects gameplay? Nope, can't support such greed in good conscience, especially from an indie dev. Refunded.

Absolutely love it, this game improves on the original in every way. The wait was worth it. It is a brilliant fusion of genres, and has action/RPG adventure with base building and resource management elements, all working together very well. The first game was one of my favorites, and I think this one will be too.

So the game starts great, you rebuild the town, save dwarven race from extinction, lvl up and gear up and when you are ready to have some fun...you find out you have just won and that is it... ...all that "runegate theme" and all you get is two worlds... If it had another 2-3 worlds, even some of them being assigned randomly from a longer list Id give it at least 9/10 but the fact that game is so short I honestly …

Waited for years for this game and it's just... okay. It's hardly an improvement on the first game, they've got slightly better graphics and you've got some verticality to your home base. It's the same formula as the first game and it's enjoyable, though I'm already getting kind of burnt out. I wish I could make the difficulty harder, I'm on normal difficulty and by 4 hours (halfway through the first map) I became …

Honestly, just a really solid "everything the first game did but with more polish" sequel. It looks prettier, the story has a bit more to it, and the world is way bigger. Other than that, it captures the exact same experience of the original, for better and for worse. For better, it's a great world to explore and the physical act of exploring is fun. This game should have launched as a early access title. I just finished the main story and have to say I'm quite disappointed. There is a good game in here and I really love the art style, music and general atmosphere. But right know the game really feels half finished at best. A lot of good ideas that lead to nothing. The Ending came out of nowhere for me, as a lot of game systems were still pretty useless and the story was pretty much just cut off at that point. It felt like watching a series…

Interesting game, but the controls, camera and combat is honestly terrible, I have no idea how they could've signed off on how it is right now if they did any amount of play testing. The more I play the more this game feels like it was never properly play tested. I've also ran into a fair amount of bugs and a lot of stuff is fairly unintuitive. Also I'm being prompted to hand in quests, speak to the right people but there is no option to complete it. I'm hoping this doesn't happen with a…

It pains me to say, but this game is not finished. Mechanically, there is something wonderful here. It's everything the first game was and more. The resources, however, quickly become useless, and there is little reason to build anything in your main settlement. Practically all of it amounts to nothing, or close to it. Halfway through the game you build everything there is, and your resources max out with nothing to spend them on. The worst offender of this is that there is an entire…

Loved the first game, and was really excited for this one after playing the demo, but day one paid DLC with some merchant selling unique items? That's low. Other than that it feels good, like an upgraded and better looking version of Regions of Ruin, which is exactly what I wanted.

After a promising start to a new series, this second entry decided that wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle was preferable to building on its world and charm and adding depth. While this title by itself is still laudable, it falls short of its predecessors brevity and focus on core aspects and balance. Which didn't create a "just one more location" gameplay loop, but a "not another run of the mill goblin camp" mentality. The beginning of Regions of Ruin: Runegate follows a common troope of…

Feels like a significant downgrade compared to the first. They tried to improve upon the lacking areas of the first game, but swung the pendulum way too far in the other direction. Resource management is a joke. Unlimited free resources right at home. Zero need to explore. Enchanting is mega busted OP. Make the most overpowered jewelry in the game without ever having to leave your base. (Turn the starter ring into two 51 enchantment slot finger nukes) Crafting is equally busted due to…

To save people time do I recommend getting this game yes. I've waited about five years for this game and the time so far has been worth the wait. Regions of Ruin: Runegate is just like the first game but improved in almost every way. The combat has lots of new tricks to it like ranged combat in the form of throwing spears or heavy weapons at enemies, then an ability to make them return when a button is pressed. Guns and crossbows have also joined the mix. Upgrading your town is much cooler…

FOR THE DEVS: As soon as the GLARING issues are fixed, I will change this review to an in-depth positive one explaining everything good about the game. I love this game series. I love the original, I love what the devs with this one. This game could be amazing, maybe it even is. I wouldn't know though, because it's currently borderline unplayable. The ice skating movement is bad enough, even after their initial "fix", which only limited it so it doesn't scale too much with your movement…

I am a volunteer playtester of this game before release; I have at the time of this review (launch day), around 20hs into the main campaign (I didn't get to explore the whole game yet), and around 60hs into the Editor tool (more info on that at the end of my review). The rest is just AFK time recorded by steam. I have never played the original Regions of Ruin 1 to this day. This being said, if you played the first, it may help you understand some mechanics from the start. But I had no issues…

It could be the beers, but I'm having a fun time here so far. Fun progression loop. Explore, find resources to upgrade your camp, better gear, workers for your camp, etc. If you're in to sandboxy games like this you'll have a good time, especially at the price tag.

I like this game a lot, it has good combat, a great crafting and settlement system, and a solid story. And I'd love to recommend it except it does not have an ending. Like at all. You finish up the second world, figure out the main bad guy, kind of like the middle of most games and it just cuts to credits, super SUPER disappointing.

Regions of Ruin: Runegate is a great but also incomplete game - at least thats how I felt after beating the main story in under 30 hours. Now for the most important question: "Is this game fun?" - Yes. Yes it is. The majority of the fun is found in the exploration of levels scattered on one of the two world maps. These levels typically come with enemies to slaughter, ruins to explore and plenty of quests to solve. The Overworld is really fun to explore, as you can sometimes run into…

I liked the original quite a bit, although I haven't played it in forever and barely remember it. But the sequel is just kinda meh. I like the pixel art, and I think the music is great. So those are some positives. There's a skill tree, but it doesn't take long to get all the nodes that do anything for the weapon you've chosen, and from that point on it's all stuff like +1 bleed damage, +5 attack speed type stuff. Made it feel like mechanically, the game was over halfway through the first map.…

Look I love what the Region of Ruin games are doing so much but just like the first time this one slowly ended up letting me down. These games could be amazing but they're just ok after you get a good 10-15 hours in. Progression on your character is fun at first but you quickly become a god making combat pretty simple. The power fantasy can be cool but then everything starts to feel pointless. I love the concept of building up the town but just like the first game I have basically…

I really want to like this game, but it suffers from the same problem as Sons of Valhalla, the game loop isn't enjoyable enough and the game is a buggy mess. there are plenty of things that are frustrating, like heading back into the map from wherever in the Dwarf hold, and I can't see my resources until I go to manage workers. theres no clear indication of what's going on in many of the locations. and the blacksmith guy is stuck in a jump loop. So. Finished the game in about 5 hours (main story + around 40-50% of side content, will continue here and there in spare time). I had reasonable amounts of fun with this title, didn't play the previous one. The possibilities with this game and the player made content/campaigns is great, although as of launch (understandably so), there is no player content. Shame the main story is a bit..short (please, don't write me up in the Book of Grudges). Similarly, I'd enjoy the game being a bit longer.…

I loved the first game, and honestly, love what i've played of the second so far, but I can't recommend the game at this point in time. Within an hour of playing I encountered game breaking bugs that broke every questline. Over 900 FPS for no reason, my GPU spinning at max speed, no way to adjust it. Some of the jumping puzzles are a bit insane. Is there a double jump option I am not seeing in the skill tree? Specifically referencing the one with the wayward husband camp. Or Fenri's Puzzle that has no clues. I do like some of what is in here but some of the lack of information is surprising. Just as fun as the original with a much prettier execution. Highly recommend. Pro - pretty world fun to explore - fun fort upgrade mechanics - enchantments Con - The beginning felt rough as the relative levels of enemies were higher. Got murdered in very one sided fights. Stick with it. - Stone was hard to find initially. - Its unclear that some puzzles can only be solved with better movement enchantments.

I can't recommend this game to anyone in this state - everything looks great until you play the game and experience a really jerky camera. Some people might be fine with it but for the people who are sensitive to this type of thing - this is absolutely a don't buy until this is fixed.

The core gameplay is fun, but it still feels a bit unpolished. Lots of potential, though. Just a few quick feedbacks: - Cleared outposts should get a marker on the map. - Permadeath for workers when an escort quest fails feels a bit too harsh. - If an area is already cleared before taking the quest, it shouldn't require reloading the map just to turn it in. - There are some controller bugs. The R2 attack sometimes doesn't trigger, and the +/- buttons can be unresponsive when assigning workers.

The combat (which is 80% of the game) is not at all appealing to me. Either way you skill useless stuff like throwing your weapon away or dashing in the midst of enemy hordes and you will have a bad time or just heavy stun lock attack everyone, making this game a cookie clicker basically. Fun sequel that gets most of the stuff right from the first game and improves on it. But forcing only one save and not having any type of backup or restore system if it gets corrupted is unforgiveable. Lost 10 hours of progress because I want to a new location and as it was saving the game crashed. Reload game ASAP as every game made in the last decade has a backup feature if it forces you to only have one save file, but not this one. If your only save gets corrupted it just deletes it and…

While I liked it. It does have some flaws. You can complete the city way too quickly. Overflow resources go to waste. The crafting is a little dull. Just spam your prefered high rate tool until you get it master crafted. The story isnt bad. I do feel its missing a third act. And I didnt get enough XP after basically clearing the map to get to level 50. So maybe there is something Im missing post credits? For sth rhat's made by 2 people it's not bad. Haven't played the previous game but only by looking at it, Runegate is an upgrade. A lot of love for dwarves, and beautiful varied sceneries. It claims to be open world but it's more like instanced levels that you access through an overworld map. Exploration is well dobe because you have to reveal tge fog of war first before travelling into a new level, which goes well with that surprise factor and curiosity of what you will find. Fun while it lasted, but starting over would a total chore and not worth the time. Plenty of odd other bugs like: No matter what button you push another button with activate on controller. Was not much of a fan of platformer type puzzle challenges throughout the game but I just have no talent or patience with that type of gameplay. I enjoyed the pixel art style. Overall I like the game. The flow of building your settlement, exploring new areas, and going through the quests is fun and satisfying. That said, I also think the game has some real issues with the moment to moment gameplay and how it controls, especially in fights and when platforming. For platforming, there are a few problems: - it can be hard to tell what is background decoration vs a platform you can stand on. There are lots of cases of wooden platforms + wooden logs laid out…

Good fun. The story and characters are engaging, and I'm enjoying upgrading my little town of dwarves. The combat is a bit tricky at first but decent once you get the hang of it.

the first game was amazing, but short. This one is even better. the jump controls could use a bit of touch. sometimes the player just slides around when simply trying to jump up. enemies that insist on being inside your sprite while you fight makes it hard to hit them, and can be quite annoying. i seem to have built the town completely up (no new upgrades) but still have half the map to explore. hoping there is another map or two and perhaps more upgrades as i go. the music and lore really…

Very cool game. The atmosphere and the art style are very good and immersive. This game exceeds with environmental story telling, which makes exploration a lot better than in other RPGs. Varying enemy AI is also a sign of a great game. The combat feels varied and the devs are very very quick about fixing issues and listening to the community. I already played the first part, but this one is even better. There is a minor bug tho, which is slightly annoying, which makes passive animals, like…

Funny little game, way to short for the price. That said: could be inproved a lot on the content side with not too much effort.

This game was so good, but way too short! I definitely expected a bit more depth, and AT LEAST two or three more worlds to explore. The game technically said there were three worlds but it really only delivers two since the first one isn't really a place to explore outside of the main settlement. It NEEDED more, a lot more. It gave a unique gameplay experience with an immersive world, but the conclusion was anticlimactic and didn't feel like much of a resolution, especially so short into the…

A nice game where you roam vast lands, meet friends and foes, and gather resources to build and upgrade your settlement. It's fun and challenging.

Really fun game. Great story, good combat, good environments art and music. only real complaints would be the limited expansion of the home base. i have close to max resources with not too much to spend it on

Personally, I found this to be a lovely step up from the previous game. Which felt like a loose story that you were trying to figure out while building up a dwarven settlement. This one feels especially story driven, better graphical representation of characters, and I am glad I feel drawn to explore and find all the little side elements scattered through the map. I do reflect other reviewers thoughts on the end game material. But I also want to say that the games flow on exploring locations…

An absolute gem of an indie game, the pixel art, the combat, the base building, I love all of it, and the way crafting and enchanting works is for me the best version of it that I have seen in comparison to other games, I HIGLY HIGLY recommend any one that is looking for a fun lil hack and slash rpg that they can just boot up and play anytime they want without it costing an arm or a leg, and if you played the first one and liked it, then I think your definitely gonna love this because to me…
