What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 179 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (219 of 263 positive).
Players generally recommend REVEREND as a short, charming retro shooter with strong Blood vibes. [1][2][3] Some find it too easy, basic, or lacking in polish, especially for the price. [4][5][6] A few reviewers criticize the game as bland or poorly designed, with ugly sprites and half-baked content. [7][8][9]

Repent, Reverend, for you have sinned against good gaming. This retro first-person shooter is basically a master class in bad design. The engine is very similar to Build (the one used for Blood and Duke Nukem 3D) but it's not the same one. It has the same quirks and limitations but somehow seems worse. No inverting the Y axis with the mouse unless you do a workaround, which should have been the most basic thing to …

A very cool little Blood-like with a low price of admission and high level of fun. The mouse aiming is a tad clunky and the weapons are mapped to some weird numbers, but otherwise it plays pretty well and radiates charm from the off-kilter voice acting to the hand-made visuals and biblically accurate enemy design. Easy to recommend at $3 for boomer shooter fans.

Reverend is a typical 6/10 boomer shooter experience. I picked it up in a Fanatical bundle for a few cents, and honestly, that feels like the only reasonable price for it. The game is very short and not particularly well thought out. The level design is all over the place. While it’s good enough, the placement of locations and encounters feels very random and lacks cohesion. The weapon variety is also extremely …

Very good, especially for the price! The music and atmosphere are very 70's-80's horror which I love, and I think the menu/pause music is straight from the 'Day of the Dead' DVD menu screen lol. Smooth gameplay, great digitized objects and enemies, and generally just a fun time. If this was the 90's, this game would have been a classic for sure. I know it takes some of it's influence from 'BLOOD', but it doesn't …

Short but sweet boomer shooter, I suck so I ended up finishing it with god mode enabled. There are better games in this genre for sure but for 1 euro it's perefectly fine.

neutral · AI labelView post →Yep, the Putnam family had 3 ”afflicted girls" (one was adult), and made over 60/200 accusations. Almost all of which were against political or business rivals, or connected in some manner. It very well may have began a political/business conspiracy between Thomas Putnam and Reverend Parris, playing on very real Puritan and settler fears. Plus, the Indians were kinda pissed about being slaughtered, and were big on raiding Colonial towns at the time, which added to fears

I understand the reasons — Penny and Reverend Barnes are oil and water — but still wish the game was forced to be played every season. Think it's good for hoops culture in this state.

The song was released in 1975 as b-side to her single The Reverend Bob (#74). Was issued in Scandinavia in 1976-77 where it went number one in Sweden (10 wks) and Finland. Huge hit in Asia too.
neutral · AI labelView post →This game is exactly as advertised - a bite sized retro-inspired fps that has TONS of personality, and is sure to provide you with a good time. While the game is held back by the engine it was made on (60 fps max, cant change keybinds, and a few other QOL things) the developer did a good job with the tools he had. I felt the game was too easy - I beat the whole thing without a single death. BUT I also never got lost, which is pretty rare for this genre. Level design was intuitive enough for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent Boomer Shooter, it's a bit basic but has some charm, it's pretty short though i managed to beat it in 45 minutes. You can't miss getting 100% of the achievements, for those who care.

neutral · AI labelView post →A short and simplistic FPS with some cool environments but awful scanner damage. It's hard to tell what's damaging the player most of the time. If you can get past that, it's fine, but this dev has much better games (Like Dead Trash).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is cool, just not really for me. I did make it through the first level and boss properly before deciding that was enough actual effort. After that i cheated my way through the rest of the game for the achievements. 5/10 definetely sinned.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A weird-styled little journey, that takes you back into times, where you played games like these for a short thrill, instead of hanging in huge and dead open worlds forever like today. I saw this game in a Stream (thx Geek) as an excerpt video and immediately fell in love with the visuals (color palette, dark style). It reminded me instanly on old fps games, we loved to play back in the day. While I wrote to others about this game, it turned out that the indie dev of it was also there. I told…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great little FPS with a demon theme. The map design is solid, with a clear path. The keys aren't hard to find, but they're cleverly hidden - some require player to look up, or they might be behind you while you're climbing. The devs did a great job of keeping the exploration fun without waste player's time going back and forth to find keys or unlock doors. That later level with the creepy chip/brain wall feels a bit chaotic, but it’s still manageable since the keys are well-placed, and the new…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best of the DOSMan catalogue, in my opinion - a great art style and cool campy horror vibe!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The aesthetic is good, and the protagonist quips well. That's about all the good I have to say. Movement is a little choppy, mouse look feels off somehow, and the weapons are abysmal. The enemy roster is humdrum. The level design is adequate, but the map is practically useless - a tiny line drawing in the upper left hand corner of the screen. I really wanted to like this. I love to support single-developer indie titles, especially when said developer has ties to Troma. I have, however,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly cheap but bland FPS. You get what you pay for. Really nothing to note except every time I pick up ammo or health it flash bangs me with a blinding white light, Pick up multiple items in a row and it feels like it's trying to induce epilepsy. And the ending is really, really lame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent fun for about 1.5 hours My biggest complaint is the fact you cannot rebind jump, but hey ho Not a bad little game other than that - 6/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this for super cheap from Fanatical with all the other DOSMan games. First one I'm playing, and eh. The idea is cool, the monster designs are fantastic. Actually, all the sprites in general are pretty good. There's a ♥♥♥♥ ton of easter eggs, like 2 or so per level, with a bunch of secret areas. The music design is really good too for a super cheap game. Main issue is lack of food in the buffet, and it is all brought to you instead. The game feels way too easy, and cheap at the same time.…

neutral · AI labelView post →REVEREND, developed by Twisted Sickle and published by DOSMan Games, is a gritty, horror-themed retro shooter that channels the spirit of the ‘90s FPS golden era with striking confidence. From the very first moments, the game makes its intentions clear: this is a blood-soaked descent into madness, filled with fast-paced combat, grotesque visuals, and cryptic religious overtones. It doesn’t aim for subtlety—it aims for raw, atmospheric carnage delivered through a pixelated, hellish lens. You…

neutral · AI labelView post →Short 'n sweet. Reverend is a quick blast through an Eldritch-fuelled nightmare. Plenty of campy horror and old-school goodness. Plays very much how you'd expect, hunt down keys, find secrets, eliminate creepy foes along the way. Surprisingly decent level design and visuals too. 7/10 - I personally loved the tacky vibes this game offered and the Eldritch themed enemies and areas towards the end of the game were done really well! The soundtrack goes pretty hard too!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an enjoyable little game. It's wasn't that long. This is definitely a pretty good experiences if your looking for something similar to BLOOD or CULTIC. My only complaint I have if this game is QUICK SAVE. I keep crashing and logging me out every time I load my progress. I did have some problem with the controls not supporting the gamepad, but I figure it out. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this game! I don't quite understand it yet. However, it feels like it was made with love and care. I can't fault that. I noticed a few minutes in I wasn't asked what difficulty I would like, nor were there graphics options...A pure boomer shooter? Have we devolved back to mindless, simply themed (yet lovingly crafted!) FPS shooters? ...I kind of hope so.

Running on the Easy FPS Editor engine. It follows the story of a former Reverend as he goes toe to toe with the eldtrich horrors that are lurking around with 8 levels to sink your teeth into. So my first experience was Flash of the Blade X, and you know what, that really surprised me with how fun it was. Unfortunately I can't say the same for Reverend. It had everything I should want, and the horror theme was a lot more inline with the kind of games I would normally pick. But something about this one just didn't click for me.…
