Some reviewers find the meta-progression grindy and the early game frustrating. [1][2][3]

Rogue Legacy 2, a rogue like obviously, that fell pretty flat on its face for me. The moment to moment gameplay and presentation is fine. What really killed this one for me is the meta progression. I could go on about the ins and outs of how the meta progression is designed very purposefully to make you try new things, learn how weapons/classes work together and so on and so forth... but all that fell apart for me …

Very underrated game. I have a love of platformers and roguelikes, so this was a wonderful combination of the two (Spelunky 2 is one of my favorite games as well, go figure). Gives immense replayability- I 100%'d it but could've kept going for quite a while more. The bad part of the game to me was the beginning, where you are learning all the bosses and biomes for the first time. To me, this process is usually the …

This is seriously one of the best games ever made, the gamplay is very satisfying, the loop is addictive and the lore is very fun to uncover.

An outstanding 2D platformer with really, really TIGHT movement and a wide variety of gameplay styles. 15 classes and 30 weapons overall - EACH of them offers a different attack style, from a basic sword swing in front of character, or narrow lunges but in 4 directions (like in Hollow Knight), to AOE attacks, boomerang attacks, and even jumping on static projectiles you place beforehand. Rogue Legacy 2 manages to …

The game is to grindy. I love that the play session is just 10-15 minuts. but then you don't se much progression. and starting from scratch with all knowledges doesn't improve much. Inflation on the purchases looks like just a patch or artificial obstacle, to prevent fast progression. This game doesn't deserve 60 or 100 hours to complete.

Critics, per Wikipedia
Rogue Legacy 2 received "universal acclaim" for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 according to review aggregator platform Metacritic; the Windows and Nintendo Switch versions received "generally favorable" reviews. Mitchell Saltzman of IGN awarded the game a 9 out of 10, stating that the game is "a transformative sequel that essentially rebuilds the extraordinarily influential 2013 original into a modern roguelite that stands nearly shoulder to shoulder with the best of the genre". PC Gamer gave the game an 88 out of 100, calling it "a cheerful and challenging dungeon crawler where death is a good thing" and "a spectacular follow-up that revitalises the series with fresh ideas while…

Here are some works for the starting area :

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its not a bad game, but it has two really bad problems 1- All the upgrades that give new classes and facilities are too frontloaded meaning that you unlock them all within an hour then spend the rest of your playtime unlocking meaningless crap like +1 armor or +10 health. Theres nothing interesting to save up for 2- The game wants to challenge you with platforming as much as it does with combat. The problem is the platforming is so bad with the controls and giant character size that it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is good, the directional bug is bad. If I point my character left or right I expect the character to aim that way. This bug was present in the original game too. You think they would have fixed it by now.. I wanted to add a little more info. This particular bug is something that happens in both games with controllers. Cellar Door games needs to fix this bug with their controller support. If you do a quick turn around with the analog stick the character will either backslide or turns…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an easy contender for my favorite game ever; what a trip it's been from EA to NG+100. What appeals to me the most apart from the incredibly fluid combat system is the progression that actively rewards you varying your playstyle while leaving enough breathing room to pursue the one you enjoy the most. Fantastic graphics, superb challenge, great music, fun secrets, nice characters, and the most addictive gameplay loop I've ever experienced to this day. Also works phenomenally well on the…

neutral · AI labelView post →Thinking about Rogue Legacy 2.......... Maybe it's nostalgia (if it's not too early for that) but damn, that game and its OST really did and do have this indescribable, timeless aura about 'em.
positive · AI labelView post →My current evening unwind game is Rogue Legacy 2. While the RNG & combat is delightful, I get a special level of glee from the odd tonal juxtapositions. "Despite his sins, Estuary Lamech deserved an honorable death," says the brooding Betrayer. I, a humble clown chef with fart powers, solemnly nod.

I could go on about the ins and outs of how the meta progression is designed very purposefully to make you try new things, learn how weapons/classes work together and so on and so forth... but all that fell apart for me when I had to start grinding. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eh.... It's a more polished version of Rogue Legacy, but more grindy and repetitive due to poorly designed upgrade scaling. It has two more biomes than the original game, but those two are very linear and they wear out their welcome quickly. The entire sidescrolling roguelite subgenre is aging badly. There are three more I plan to play in the future but after that I am DONE with this subgenre for good. I recommend playing summum aeterna instead of this if you really want a sidescrolling…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have put well over 150 hours into Rogue Legacy 2. I cannot in good faith recommend it. It's got the tone of a LEGO Salt & Sanctuary. It annoys me deeply. Yet I have played it to NG+6 and refuse to uninstall it. I hate how much I love this game.
neutral · AI labelView post →Way, waaaaaay better then Hollow Knight: Silksong, yet not nearly as richly rewarded and acclaimed... Life is truly not fair. This game is amazing, buy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rogue Legacy 2 is a ridiculously fun game. lots of replayability. also, cheap!
positive · AI labelView post →Overall a huge improvement on the original. The new classes / weapons add a lot to the variety of a playthrough and the gold increase of negative traits makes them an actually interesting decision to make. Game has a lot of charm with the small snippets of lore you get over the game, and although I prefer the artstyle of the original it feels a lot smoother to play. The heirloom system is a really good change too, I much prefer it over the previous Rune system due to it's limitations. The…

neutral · AI labelView post →Guess who finally got around to completing Rogue Legacy 2? This girl! 😎 Really fun and polished game! If you're gonna play both RL1 and RL2, play RL1 first cause it's harder to go back after getting used to the improved experience. If you're only gonna play one of them, make it RL2. 😊
positive · AI labelView post →No i-frame doge and enemies are programmed to rush to the player while also spamming projectiles that go through walls and enemies that do really fast charge attacks from off screen. To top it off they also have made half their challenges, fight X amount of enemies while avoiding X hazards and don't take any damage. Interesting ideas but unfortunatly none of them qualify as progression. You very quickly realize the games difficulty scaling far outpaces the power they make available to the…

Hopefully I can beat Hyper Light Drifter first 😩

neutral · AI labelView post →game cheat engines exist that's about all I got in general, I wish all devs would include really simple "cheat codes" or "house rules" that allow players to mess with some really common settings. Rogue Legacy 2, Baldur's Gate 3 (now), and some other indie titles are great here.
neutral · AI labelView post →I may change this review at a later date, but based on my first few hours, I can't really say I recommend the game. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot going for the game, but for me personally, it didn't hook me the same as RL1, I think primarily because of scope-creep. The good: - Beautiful environmental art style reminiscent of Hollow Knight. Definitely an upgrade compared to RL1. - A massive, semi open world procedural map to explore. - Could be a pro or a con. Same classic platforming…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is cute and has some unique mechanics, but it's hampered by the absolute SLOG that is the progression. I understand that you're supposed to go through lots of characters, but on a lot of runs it feels like nothing gets done and that my time and currency were wasted. If the gameplay were better, this might be OK, but it's really just super basic metroidvania combat (jump, attack, airdash, pogo) and doesn't feel as smooth as something like Silksong or even OG Hollow Knight. I quickly…

positive · AI labelView post →Yeah, I think this failure to equally invest in girly games comes in large part from the fact that women are expected to be comfortable partaking in things considered masculine, and men are expected to be uncomfortable partaking in things considered feminine. Feminist theorist Julia Serrano talked about parts of this where because masculinity is regarded more positively violations of gendered expectations are seen as less bad when it's women embracing masculinity. This of course is also because…
neutral · AI labelView post →Like Dead Cells, but much worse. Three things and it might be personal taste or just bad design. I'll let you decide. 1. The character is ginormous and looks clumsy when they move and feels clumsy when they play. 2. Enemies shoot you from offscreen. A lot. Which that's never good game design imo. 3. This is much more of a parkour game than something like Dead Cells. It has similar opponents and similar controls and similar movement, but it comes at you with the platforming as hard as it comes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is ultra grindy cookie clicker where you must die infinite times to upgrade your character. I don't like it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game a few years ago, and I really really enjoyed it. Forgot to share my 'review' until now!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The bones of the game are as good as the first one, maybe even better. The second area ruined the game for me. I wanted to love it as much as the first, but I couldn't. Maybe it's a skill issue but I honestly thing the design is fundamentally flawed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →extremely well crafted. good meta progression, excellent boss design, varied enemy design and colorfully different biomes. the end game repeats drags on but they give you an option to shortcut if you choose.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved the first game and this one is an improvement in almost every way. Classes are more interesting, more content in the castle, more story as well. Very well done, and one of my favorite games of all time.

neutral · AI labelView post →Rogue Legacy is close, but it suffers from being too hard early on and maybe too easy in the late game. Rogue Legacy 2 fixes those issues, and is really just a delight all the way through. Rogue Legacy 2 also has accessibility settings available from the first moment of the game - so if something is throwing off my play through, I can just change it. And the accessibility settings can be tuned in the opposite direction for bragging rights and increased challenge during replays (as a "new…
positive · AI labelView post →No, getting hit constantly by offscreen enemies should not be the norm. No, putting the player in a closet with traps and a projectile spamming boss that floats at you is not okay. No, adding a second boss to the closet does not make it better. No, a player should not die in three hits despite farming the whole map every run. No, making five of the eight bosses randomly overlay several projectile attacks at a time is not game design. No, adding more sets of projectiles to the boss won't fix…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this as a huge fan of the first game, but every second of this game is agony. In as nice a way as I can put it: it feels like a fan project more than anything. Like someone's outside perspective on the game and what it should be, instead of ANYTHING the original game had going for it. gg go next I guess.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How this game doesn't have Overwhelmingly Positive reviews is beyond me. This is the materclass of it's genre and it's not even close. Rogue Legacy 2 is in my top 3 favorite games ever. I think i probably have like 200 hours into this game on PS5 alone. 10/10 recommend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Platformer, for me is anything that has the "platformer" tag on steam (has platforming elements that are persistent through much of the game). 😊 1) Celeste 2) Hollow Knight 3) Katana ZERO 4) Dead Cells 5) Spelunky 6) Ender Magnolia 7) Super Meat Boy 8) Rogue Legacy 2 9) The Messenger 10) N++
neutral · AI labelView post →Ridiculously faithful to the previous instalment. To the point where I now genuinely feel like I'm playing a decked-out & fully flushed modded version of the 1st Rogue Legacy. I had to go look at screenshots of the first game to convince myself that this isn't how that game always looked. Anyway, a statue called me smelly and then proceeded to give me a very fun to solve challenge. This is really good and lining up to be even better. A deserved upvote for this game!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is another installment in one of the greatest rouge-like games I've every played - its for sure my favorite. I'm not particularly good at these types of games, but it rewards persistance and there is a great amount of variety and a ton of content that never feels stale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overview: This game is a top-tier contender for rogue-likes. Hundreds of ways to customize your builds, ways for runs to go, and even various accessibility options make this game the right choice for anyone wanting to kill some time - Story: Not gonna lie, completely SPRINTED through the story. Not really sure what exactly is going on, other than there are some religious references going on. I do like how there is a true ending for this game, which helps players continue playing, even after…
