What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 177 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (1,060 of 1,438 positive).
Some reviewers find the story mode lacking and the port poorly optimized. [1][2][3] A few players enjoy the fan service and character creation options. [4][5][6]

This game should have never been ported to PC. None of the controls work with any controller except basic functions like accept/cancel and movement. Worst kind of piece of garbage port from console I have EVER seen. I played the original, and I love the Warriors games, but this is just a disgrace. Koei Tecmo, you should ALL be ashamed of yourselves for this grabass money sink.

This is a fantastic game it would definitely scratch your musou itch if better options weren’t available. This is a classic case of a shoddy PC port. This is most crucially this is seen in the fact that the game does not support Xinput (Xbox) controllers so you will need use a Dinput controller such as a PS4, PS5 or an obscure 3rd party controller such as the Logitech F series controllers. But using a compatible …

well as warriors game and from koei and if you want to try something other than dynasty warriors (china) this samurai warriors (japan) is good option and my fav part is you can create your character and add logos/pics and so its good game to play and enjoy it but sadly not the right one to play it for the "main story" and there is no base SW4 on steam its kinda old and idk about 5 but 4 is better if you want a lil …

First and foremost, Naotora Ii has a glorious pair of fat honkers that sway left and right real good as she runs across the battlefields. All the ladies have cute outfits to wear and there's an entire chapter dedicated to waifus (complete with hot springs bath scene and a sexy dance number at the end), that you can only unlock after clearing all the other stages, which is fair; they make you fight for the fan …

52% of the 177 Steam reviewers we collected recommend SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II. The complaint that keeps coming up: terrible controller support, especially for Xbox controllers. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

60 of 198 · most liked firstI'm a huge fan of Warriors games but I'm really disappointed by this one. While the gameplay is good, there is no chronicle/story mode. There is only 13 small side scenarios and since I mainly play for the story, the game feels very hollow. Basically it's a standalone expansion, which can be fine, however the base game content is not available in this one and the base game (SW4/SW4DX) is not released on PC. In the end, I can understand why people can enjoy the game from a gameplay perspective…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly the controller support is toilet water. you cannot bind the keys and natively all it supports is walking around. Shameful in this day and age. Get another beatem up

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, bad port. This is from the early days of Koei and Japanese company who is late to the PC market. Don't expect controller support as the controller is default into generic and not Xbox nor PS4. Buy it at your own risk as you will need to get mods to fix the controller.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I refunded due to awful controller support I own dw4 DX wasnt sure what this was. Shame
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not worth the hassle of trying to get xbox one controls working. not only does it not use in game button prompts, for some reason on the x1 controller camera rotation is maped to l2/r2. The same buttons you're supposed to use for swapping heros. So you end up not having enough buttons for all controls
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I simply can't recommend this game on the simple fact of how f'ing frustrating the lack of support for controller is. It really does just boggle me.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I waited 6 years for this game just to go on a 50% sale and there's only 5 missions per character. This game sucks! You can't even play as your custom character in the campaign mode. Please leave tears over a negative review in the comment box. https://discord.gg/U4j5r75
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play DW1 and then jump into something like Samurai Warriors 4-II, or Origins, or DW Empires titles and say this again. This is just false!
neutral · AI labelView post →The lack of controller support is disappointing. Tried multiple controllers, and following the non existence guides online and still nothing worked. Wasted too much time so I got a refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is better than dynasty warriors 9
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to play this game, but I can't. No controller configuration. Aside from movement and navigating the menu, my controller does nothing. The button bindings don't even make sense (X to confirm and Y to cancel on 360. I could understand if it were B and A, considering PS layout, but X & Y?) Keyboard bindings make no sense and I don't think everything is even bound. I cannot find a key that will open up the in-mission menu or turn the camera. Nowhere is there a setting to bind…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: -Lots of waifus Cons: - Pretty bad port, graphics could be cutting edge if this was for PS2. - Game does not work in W10 without compatibility mode on. - The dev stopped supporting this long ago.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Make sure you backup your saves which are located here: C:\Users\[windows username]\Documents\KoeiTecmo\SAMURAI WARRIORS 4-II This game doesn't have Steam Cloud, so if you change PC, you lose your progress. That, and the in-game save menu makes it very easy to accidentally delete your save. It happened to me, so I ended up downloading a 100% save online to just keep playing the stories I hadn't played yet. As for the game itself, all I can say is it's not my kind of game. Most characters…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good Game, Bad Port Just get the DX version, it has everynthing plus the DLC/Micro of this version. The game itself is a 7/10, good gameplay poor balance between character, this port for pc is pretty mediocre, constan slowdowns, very few graphics options, horrible controller support, just a hot mess.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thinking about Samurai Warriors 4-II Shima Sakon ending. Taking that tragic Mitsunari end from 4 and going 'no, Sakon will cheat death and defy all odds to safe his beloved Lord like a knight in shining armour in this universe' is SO funny. Shit like this is why Sakon/Mitsunari will never die.
positive · AI labelView post →I almost felt scammed with this game. Neither controllers nor keyboard inputs worked properly. The game is locked at 30 and 60 FPS, with no settings to adjust anything you need. Additionally, there are unskippable cutscenes that disrupt the flow. It feels like a low-quality port from the Switch with graphics far inferior to Samurai Warriors 2, which I played on the PS2. I ultimately decided to refund it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →me, ass deep in Skyrim, ass deep in Snowrunner, replaying Gears of War, need to finish Road to Vostok and Samurai Warriors 4-II: I should replay Mass Effect and Dragon Age
neutral · AI labelView post →It cannot be denied, there are many aspects and some features that are much better than the previous series. I quite appreciate the presence of a smooth combat system even though it still feels rough. However, it is very unfortunate in terms of story. Because there is not have original version on Steam, like it or not, you have to play this game, which is actually an Empires or DLC series that was released stand alone. If you have never played a series before, players will feel confused by the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It keeps crashing on certain levels during mid-game. Not good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was really looking forward to playing this but this is such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ port. There are too many problems and usually I let the small things slide but not having proper controller support is where I draw the line, it just feels bad to play it when the usual buttons don't do the things it's supposed to be doing. I've never had this issue with SW5 and DW7, this is pretty disappointing and just really frustrating.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Intro Coming straight from Samurai Warriors 2, I expected nothing short of fluid and great gameplay and Koei has delivered with Samurai Warriors 4-II. I'd always prefered the SW games compared to Dynasty Warriors or the Warriors Orochi games which I played on the Xbox 360. I'll make many comparisons to Samurai Warriors 2 as that was the last SW game I played, back in 2007 and I recenly played again to get that ever so good Nostalgia feeling. Warriors / Story There are 56 characters playable.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short Version: Technical issues, rough graphics in most places, no explanation of controls if you don't already know them. Full price for a dated port-over. Edit: No mouse function. Period. Long Version: Various control bugs when using a controller, control settings awful to manage. Graphics that don't read well at all if you're using anything newer than its release date. Shouldn't have been ported over because this iteration of the game is just that: Ported over. There's no real indication…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's locked to 1080p and the controller support is abysmal. A relic from when PC ports were an afterthought. The core gameplay is *fine*. The amount and cost of DLC is unacceptable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really bad port to PC, do not buy!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, awful port. Sadly not worth the price.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Full Priced Expansion; Length/Depth is Disappointing but good cope for PC fans. Get on Sale.If you just want a Musou game on PC in 2023 get Spirit of Sanada, SW5, or either Warriors Orochi. Maybe even just emulate the PS3 versions of SW4. Update: Came back recently, remembered just how awful this port's plug and play was. If you end up purchasing you'll be happy to know the lovely community solved getting more than 1080p and some controller issues if you know your way around downloading…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PS4 controller support is incredibly jank. I can only get two of the buttons to work and neither of them are useful.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to play PS2 versions of this, SW2. It was really fun, this one is more exaggerated and not that fun. Also its so buggy that you can't play split screen, like the char1 controls the camera of the 2nd player, its impossible to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grab it for the PS5, this port in nearly unplayable between the massive slowdowns, horrible textures, and native 1080p max resolution - its one of the most anti pc ports ive ever seen.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game and play more time but masamune date last chapter have bug and just crash pls fix it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is inoperable. Literally does not work with controller at all. Can't attack or pause with controller. Game did crash in the menus before I got to play the game, or at least attempt to, and framerates are inconsistent as ♥♥♥♥. Graphics are much worse than you might think. Character models are good but their armor is literally the lowest possible resolution ever. TLDR: Unplayable. Don't bother even on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice, everyone is hot in this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the best game for ever this and version 2 is the best for ever
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is trash, apparently KOEI TECMO doesn't know what an Xbox One controller is
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having finally finished up Story Mode and the Challenge Tower, at 42 hours, I feel like I should give a review. A few things to note: Not my first Warriors game - I've played DW4, DW7, DW8XL and Orochi. This was my first Samurai Warriors game. I played with a keyboard. I've bought no DLC. Never tried Co-Op. Personally, I liked the game, but I wouldn't recommend it as anyones introduction to the genre. It's 25$ at cheapest, while DW8XL goes on sale for 12.50$ pretty often, and DW7 is 20$…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Weapon and Skill System Excites me, But The Controller Mapping is so Off...it's so weird, why Both Samurai Warrior 4 and 4-II are not the same? I can't locate the button to Switch Character on my XBOX controller... lol The Resolution Settings isn't Optimised for the PC Port... what a Shame, the Interlude Menu will froze when you attempt to skip the Dialogue... Even at a Sale, i Refunded.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was kind of dismissive of Samurai Warriors 4 II, but I admit I am actually still playing it. The best thing about those musou games is just being able to dip into them whenever. I'm more interested in that roguelike one that's out, Abyss.
neutral · AI labelView post →Samurai Warriors 4-II ruined Naotora Ii for me because now I can't see her design without remembering Naomasa complaining about her hanging boobs in one of his battle messages
negative · AI labelView post →Samurai Warriors 4-II has horse breeding but it works the same as weapon crafting so the parent horses are destroyed in the process😢
negative · AI labelView post →In spite of how much I've loved the Second game in this series, that I own a 360 specifically to play it, I've just never gelled with any of the sequels, from the character designs. to the charactizations and even the missions none of it feels as good to me as 2 did. And its not even against modern Musou games, I absolutely adore Hyrule Warriors. Also doesn't help what a mess this version of the game seems to be, this is 4-...2? wheres 1? Why is there a "complete" rerelease which is all the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This, along with the base 4, are the best Samurai Warriors games. Just keep in mind that this version doesn't have a lot of the original's levels, and you're gonna replay Odawara, Sekigahara and Osaka A LOT
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game, wish I could turn into any enemy as Nenê did in Samurai Warriors 2 tho
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm only giving this a negative review because of the complete absence of porting this game has for mouse and keyboard users. I don't have a controller and don't desire to get one, so when games like this appear for PC that make no effort whatsoever to use the native controls a PC has... it annoys me. Sure the game is still playable with the keyboard, but the controls are bizarre and troublesome. It is a real shame too because if there was a decent port of this game, I think I'd probably give…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a fake tutorial. It tells you what a button does, but not which key that button is mapped to, and with no way to customize it. 0 out of whatever number you want to say. If you have this game, delete it. If you see this game, report it for spam.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love warriors games, pretty much all of them. I'd probably really love this one too, but unfortunately couldn't get any of my available control types to work well with it and would have been stuck with using keyboard and mouse, which I do not want to do for this style of game. Some forums led me to third party apps that helped a little to varying degrees, but you really shouldn't have to go that route to enjoy a game. tl;dr, an unfortunately bad port to what is probably a great game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the samurai warriors series but was very disappointed to find that the controller support dose not function for me, i tried to find a solution with no success. Currently waiting for refund confirmation from steam support. Other Koei titles have worked with few issues, however those minor issues where all related to controllers. i have used different controllers ps4, ps3, xbox360 and logitech and none of them worked on this particular title.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing this game on Network Co-op is about as fun as taking a swan-dive into a carnival outhouse, and I'd at least pause to consider the latter as a better option if forced to choose. I play the Musou games with my sister, it's been our bonding thing since childhood, so a Warriors game without functional co-op is worthless to me. Now that we're adults living far apart, Network co-op is our only way to enjoy these games together. This game freezes on random missions, and 50% of the time you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started playing a bit of the awkwardly titled Samurai Warriors 4 II. Felt a bit like a giant demo, or a fraction of the main game cut out and made into another game. Like it's not -bad- but it's a hard one to care about.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've not played samurai warriors game since samurai warriors 2 came out I beat it on PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, I was so excited to play samurai warriors 4-II but unfortunately my Xbox Series X\S doesn't work with this game, the controller is brand new only had it for a day, I can tell it works on Samurai Warriors DX because I just bought it on sale and im now playing it and im enjoying it, I would love to play naomasa li in this game but my controller does not work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is insanely fun. And it offers you a lot to do even after you spent 50+ hours completing the story mode. It feels like there is always something to do with all the characters and the leveling system it really gives you a lot to be entertained by.
